Silk = Service. I went to Silk after remembering them from a former Yelp Event with West Elm a few Aprils back, because they are a small local bridal boutique that carried a lot of designer gowns. Some of the gowns come from Barcelona, Toronto, etc. High quality, and classic. After making an appointment, I was sent a survey to help sort through preferences. The day of I was greeted by Kendra, who was a very thorough consultant. She was able to help me in and out of dresses, and point me into the right direction as to what I was looking for. I appreciated the fact that Kendra was upfront about pricing on the phone, and in person. I didn't feel like there was any pushiness, and she just wanted to help me figure out what would genuinely work best for me. I haven't made decisions yet, but I won't hesitate to return when I have a better idea of what we are doing for our wedding. When I lived in Rochester full time, my family and I used Thimble Tailor all the time, and my parents still do. When Silk opened, I planned well in advance of any hypothetical engagements that I wanted to look for a dress at Silk first. One late-2019 engagement and 2020 elopement later, I'm a Silk bride and thrilled with my dress. Ultimately, our decision to elope hinged on Silk's off the rack sample sale. If I found a dress, that would move things forward. Well, I found a dress, and I'm a newlywed. So here is the story of shopping for a wedding dress in the time of a pandemic (summer 2020), as bridal shops are the kinds of businesses that need to have dates on their reviews. My mom and I got the last appointment of the sale. I didn't have too much of an idea of what I wanted, except that I didn't want the dress to look like it was eating me. I wanted to look at dresses by Pronovias in particular. For the record, I am not a small human and I was happy to report that all but one dress I tried on zipped up without incident. The staff helped me select five dresses to try on. While I was trying one on, Fatima came by and was showing me how to attach straps that she made. She asked me if I had any other contenders, and I told her about the second dress I tried on. She took one look at it and told me I needed to put it back on because it was way better. My instincts were correct. I put the other dress back on and fell instantly in love. It was at this point that my mom and I were given permission to remove our masks, and Fatima instantly recognized my mom from all of the times she and my dad brought clothes over to Thimble! Proving once again that if you like a business, you keep going back with a smile, because then you have the most fun you'll ever have trying on dresses. We bought the dress, and finalized our elopement within days. I came back to Silk for two more fittings. Bring your wedding shoes when you try the dress on for hemming purposes. This is required for all appointments. I kept my mask on at the fittings, which wasn't too big of a deal. I also purchased my bridal jewelry at Silk, and I seriously want to buy all of my fancy jewelry here from now on because I'm obsessed with their selection. Since we postponed our big reception, I'll get to wear the dress again in the future. I can't wait to wear it again. Fatima knows her stuff, as do the consultants. You'll get the dress of your dreams at Silk, I promise. Keep an eye out for sample sales, it's fate! I'm a newlywed and a Silk bride, and I couldn't be happier with the dress experience. 7/21/16: Beautiful dress boutique! Really enjoyed having the gowns out and being able to go through the rack at my own pace. Not having tried on gowns yet I didn't know what to expect, but this was such an easy process. I tried on very different style dresses and I'm glad I did, it made it very easy to know what I thought was the best fit. I went in with my trial hair and makeup too and once the veil went on I just knew it was the one! This was my first bridal dress shop experience and I said yes to the dress on first time! I did go in with ideas of what I wanted and was very pleased with the selection. Staff was very friendly. Beautiful boutique, very clean, nicely formatted. They only allow 1-2 brides in at a time which is amazing for the full experience. Prices are reasonable too! And when I said yes we all had "champagne" to celebrate! Can't wait to get the fittings done 9/19/17: so it's almost been 4 months since our wedding and I can't say enough great things about the staff at Silk! My dress was beautiful and fit perfect! Found the dress of my dreams here, but everything after was a nightmare. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is for Kendra, who was so kind through the whole process. First my measurements were "taken wrong" so the wrong dress size was ordered. I was then questioned extensively about if I signed off on it almost as if I was getting blamed for the stylist ordering the wrong size. I live out of state and had scheduled flights home in concurrence with my dress fittings. My first fitting was with the wrong size dress. I was mortified. I was assured that a new dress would be there and they would let me know when it was there. I received no updates at all. I called multiple times and was told that "the system was down". Eventually I was finally told that it would "be in when you're in town," which left me no piece of mind. The final straw which made me write this review is that I also found a gorgeous veil there. They sent the wrong veil with me to NY. I didn't have my veil for my wedding day. When we called to tell them they again tried to blame us for the veil. Be very careful here. read more

My sister in law was shopping for a veil and head piece on the Friday after Thanksgiving. She'd bought her dress elsewhere, which usually means the shop won't give you the time of day, but her stylist and all the other employees were still extremely friendly and helpful, letting her put on a similar dress to get the effect and patiently working through the different samples. They had a good selection of veils, but not much in terms of headpieces. The facility itself is small - I wouldn't recommend coming with larger bridal parties unless your friends are willing to stand - but the seating and viewing areas are cozy. My experience at Silk was amazing--beginning to end. First of all, the boutique is decorated adorably. The layout makes it easy to walk around and look at dresses without bothering other brides, even when it is busy. The designers they carry are selected with extreme care by owner Fatima, who is a doll. Some of their designers are not carried anywhere else in Rochester. All of the dresses are extremely well-made and are reasonably priced for the quality. The first time I came in, I came on a whim with only my Maid of Honor. I wasn't planning on purchasing anything. Laura was my consultant and she was a blast to work with. Not only did she make me feel comfortable, but she involved my Maid of Honor in the whole process as well, inviting her to choose accessories and asking for her opinion. Both Laura and Fatima helped me get in and out of the dresses and were diligent in pinning the samples to show how the dress would look in my size. This is something that every other shop was lazy about. They were insanely knowledgeable about the dresses and were transparent about the amount of alterations they thought would be needed. I can't say if it was the amazing service or the lovely ambiance, but I finally had "the feeling" in the first dress I tried on at Silk. I came back a week later with my mother and future mother-in-law and purchased the dress. Laura and Fatima were just as welcoming and engaging as on the first visit. The same can be said for when I returned a month later with my shoes to do final measurements. Maybe they are just really good salespeople, but I genuinely felt like Laura, Fatima, and everyone at the store was excited for me when I found my gown. That includes the customers--unlike other bridal stores, where I'd been snapped at by frustrated brides and mothers, everyone at Silk seemed to be having an amazing experience and offered kind comments about my dress. I enjoyed experience shopping at SILK BRIDAL!!! The entire process took about 9months. With the help of bridal Stylist Kendra, I found my perfect dress in January!! The alteration process started about 12wks before my September wedding. I came in on three separate occasions for fittings with Fatima. She was kind and professional and put me at ease. I was worried about the extremely long train on my dress. I picked my gown up on the Friday before my wedding and everything was perfect! I can't say enough great things about Silk. Their selection is relatively small, especially if you're trying to be budget conscious (or as budget conscious as one can be when planning a wedding...) but what they do have is exquisite and varied in style. Silk was the first and only shop I visited but I tried on a variety of gowns and ultimately fell in love with the dress I ended up purchasing. Jenna was extremely helpful but not pushy in any way. She let my family and I take our time, browse, squeal over "the dress" and then poured us champagne to celebrate once we'd decided. My favorite aspect of all, however, was how accurate they were in taking my measurements and how honest they were in ordering the size. I've ordered bridesmaids dresses from bridal shops before where the staff suggests going a size up so that the dress can be tailored to fit "perfectly" but there was none of that at Silk. They ordered the size according to my measurements and it turned out that size fit absolutely perfectly, meaning I saved a bit on alterations and still felt completely comfortable and happy in my gown. After my engagement, a close friend suggested that I visit Fatima and Silk Bridal. From the minute I walked into the beautiful space, I felt comfortable and confident that I would find the right dress. I am happy to say, I found more than a dress. Don't get me wrong, my dress was everything I wanted and more, but I found that the staff of Silk are special. This was the best bridal experience I've had (after going to other salons in Manhattan and Connecticut). Here's what I like about it: -They only take 1 or 2 brides at a time, so you don't feel like your at a bride mill like some places. -The store is amazingly beautiful and chic. -The associate was helpful and not pushy, which is refreshing. -You have the ability to look through the sample gowns on your own and pick out what you want. The dresses aren't in tacky bags. Plus, they have some really gorgeous dresses. This is what a wedding dress shopping experience should be liike. read more

If your clothing size is over 8- stay away! This bridal salon has itty bitty gown samples! The worst experience ever. Oh, the sales person will tell you "it will look beautiful once it fits".-As you walk out of the mirrorless try on room to show your family with 3/4 a gown that will not zip up. I am not alone in my view as I have spoken to other 8+ brides who have wasted their time here. Salons purchase their samples and select the sizes. Take a pass if you are over a size 8. Wish I could give Silk Bridal Boutique 20 stars. It's is not only the most beautiful, well set-up and perfectly decorated bridal boutique in Rochester, but the service is impeccable. The founder and owner, Fatima, is an absolute joy to be around and makes you feel so incredibly comfortable during your journey of finding the perfect wedding gown for YOU. She does not pressure you at all and even if you are making comparisons to dresses from other stores, she helps you talk through it and is honest with her opinions and expertise. Jenna is also so wonderful and incredibly helpful. She really cuts out that time of the appointment and focuses all her attention on you. She helps you pull dresses and also pulls some for you depending on the style of dress you give them. She helps get you in them, clips them back, pulls any accessories you want & is there for you the whole time. You will not regret going to Silk to find your dream dress. Not to mention my family and I have been getting our clothes tailored at Thimble, the family tailor shop next door, for over 20 years and their tailoring is impeccable. My wedding was last week and I wanted to share with future brides my nightmare at Silk bridal. The alterations of my wedding dress were a disaster and at no point did the seamstress apologize, but rather blamed me. I came in excited when my wedding dress arrived. It was supposed to be my size with limited alterations- this was not the case. At my first alterations appointment It was very large, and I was told the alterations would be $700 dollars. 2nd alteration appointment, I was yelled at for losing maybe 5 pounds and was warned if I lost any additional weight (I'm a bride, come on), they would charge me more for alterations. Now fast forward to my 3rd fitting, and the dress was way too tight. I had not gained nor lost any weight. I started to cry, my wedding was in less than 5 days and my dress was uncomfortable, I could not breath. Fatimah (the person doing the alterations), was not a nice person at any of my appointments (any advise i can give, avoid her like the plague). I came into the store for my 4th fitting, and now the dress again was way too big and now i was 1 day away from my wedding. My strapless dress needed to now have straps added (at my cost btw of $75) so that the dress would not fall down. Also, the dress was way to long, and I was told nothing could be done to fix this. At my wedding I was tripping over my dress. I picked up my dress the day before my wedding it was in a garment bag, I was told it was pressed and cleaned and not to open it until my wedding. I saw a black smudge through the garment bag so I open the bag when i got home to see the dress and found massive black stains all over my dress and strings hanging from everywhere. Again they did not take responsibility for the black stains saying i stepped on my dress- which was not the case, since i didn't try on the dress after i was told it was ready for my wedding. Oh to top it off, I paid over $250 for a vail and they told me the vail was ready to go and pressed- refused to show it to me. Turns out, on my wedding day, they gave me the wrong vail. Avoid this place like the plague. Terrible customer service, and horrible tailoring craftsmanship. read more

The shop was so cute and clean and easy to navigate. Kendra was AMAZING. We went in and sat down and talked about what i was interested in. She picked out some dresses and I picked a few and all the choices were amazing. I liked at least half of the dresses I tried on, but fell in LOVE with the first one i tried on and none of the others matched up to it. She was energetic and honest and super helpful. My mother and niece were with me and they paid as much attention to them as they did to me. They were patient, fun, knowledgeable, helpful and everything you could want! Not usually one to post reviews but Silk deserves a glowing one. My mom and I went today and had such a wonderful time. My stylist, Kendra, was absolutely amazing and listened to what I was looking for and found the most perfect dress for me. Fatima was also so sweet and seemed genuinely excited to help with all of my alterations. I really felt special and the whole process was fun and not stressful at all. When I 'said yes to the dress' we celebrated with champagne and the visit ended with hugs all around. I purchased a dress from Silk, and my experience was great. My only complaint is that they don't have dresses in a range of sizes, so when I received my dress, I did not like it. I would have appreciated if during the appointment the consultants were more honest in what would be best for my body. For example-the dress I purchased I could not wear a corset bra and I'm a triple D. Things like this would be beneficial especially when you're being stuffed into a too small dress. Had I known this I would have gone with another dress and I would not have ended up having to purchase two dresses. Overall Silk is a great studio, but I would have liked a little more direction. read more

Bought my dress here and had such a fun relaxing experience! Kendra helped me decide on the styles I liked and was really there to support my personal style and help find what I truly wanted. They have sooo many beautiful modern dresses and you can find something for a decent price. I never felt pressured into anything. Kendra has been so helpful even after I bought my dress. Our experience at this new bridal salon was so special. The sales consultant welcomed us into their salon even though we did not have an appointment. She was lovely and professional. The dress selection was beautiful and the ambiance in this new salon was fresh and modern. We are not from the Rochester area but we had not had luck finding a dress in Baltimore and Syracuse. Silk was the fourth bridal salon that we had visited in Rochester that day. Their selection of dresses was unique, reasonably priced and beautifully displayed. We found exactly what we had been dreaming of. We also were introduced to the owner of the store who couldn't have been more darling. She is young and very knowledgeable about her dresses, alterations and all aspects of a wedding wardrobe. I highly recommend Silk and plan to return there when my two youngerr daughters are in need of a wedding gown. read more

I cannot say enough about Silk. After an unbelievably demoralizing appointment at another salon on Saturday I was desperate to get my stepdaughter into another salon to wash away the bad taste. From our car, at 3:15 on a Saturday, when salons close at 5 p.m. and with no appointment we call Silk (recommended to me by a cousin). Yes, they can take us. Twenty minutes later we walk into their beautiful salon. Calm, elegant and friendly. When we had called they asked our budget and told us that their median price was somewhat higher than we wanted to spend, but at this point, I didn't care. They offered us water, coffee, etc. Explained what we would find where and invited us to browse. Spoke at length with the bride to be to get a feel for her taste, previous styles she has liked and within a short amount of time had pulled 7 gowns. Their selection looks small, but looks can be deceiving. Their gowns are beautiful and honestly, I think we would have been happy playing dress up all day. They brought my stepdaughter out in the first dress and her face was all lit up. I was so happy. We all chatted, talked about what she did or didn't like. Tried on a few more -- several different silhouettes so she could really see what each looked like. I think the 4th or 5th was exactly what she loved. She looked amazing. But she wanted to try one more that was the exact opposite. When she came out in this one she also loved this one. Clearly torn but the consultant didn't push. Let her spend as much time as she wanted weighing the pros and cons of the two. Said, okay lets go back and you can try on whichever one of the two you want for a second time so you can get a better idea. To our surprise she picked a style she never thought she could wear, but because of the quality and construction of Silk's dress lines, she looked amazing. After assuring my stepdaughter that the price was fine, she said yes. Pop the bubbly and pictures all around. Best of all were the tears of happiness on my stepdaughter's face. So glad we called Silk. They didn't even make us feel bad that we kept them long after closing time. Love, love, LOVE this place. read more
