The entire experience was like a well-oiled machine. I called to see about booking an appointment and they gave me all the info I needed in one sentence-- that it was drop in, they'd complete the visit in 30 mins, make the alterations in one week, just bring the dress and the shoes. I was seen immediately when I walked in despite it being mid-day on a Saturday. The tailor clearly knew what he was doing and was able to suggest solutions to help fix all of the issues I was worried about. I was very impressed by how quickly and expertly he made the necessary pins, marks, and suggestions. When I picked up the dress they had me try it to see whether more modifications were needed. It looked great, however a few dark marks had appeared on the dress since I dropped it off. To fix this, they got it dry cleaned within a few days. Overall it was a great experience! read more

They've always done great work. I've had to return a couple items due to hems falling out... no biggie. But their prices have seemed to gone up exponentially. I took in two items for repair and drycleaning, $218.00!. I have gone to them for years, but I will have to find an alternative. Update: Went back in to pick up my items and inquired about the high price tag. One of the owners looked over everything and refunded me $101. He stated the person ringing me up made a mistake. Took a pair of black pleated pants here to have the waist taken in and the legs slimmed. After the first round of work, the pleats and legs both did not look right. To their credit, they offered to fix them. However, after the second round of work the pants were still very ill fitting. The cost for the quality of work done didn't line up. read more

I've gone to Thimble Tailoring for 25-plus years and they have always provided excellent service. I can't recommend them highly enough. They are detailed-oriented and very friendly. They have professionally altered many types of clothing for me, including a Scottish pleated kilt. They were even willing to patch a torn Kilim (jute/wool) rug and charged much less than a local upholsterer was asking. This week I asked them to make a memory pillow from a shirt. It is beautiful and took less than a week. The price was very reasonable compared to ones I saw on Etsy. They made some great suggestions for the design. read more

I decided to walk in with my fiancée who was getting his pants tailored. The woman who helped us was berating her employee right in front of us. I was absolutely appalled. You could see how embarrassed the employee was by the look in her eye. No one deserves to be spoken to like that. I was thinking about being in my pants to get hemmed, but will not be doing that. Although I had been here twice before, I was a little nervous to come back again based on recent reviews. So glad I went on my own experience and brought my daughter's bridesmaid dress here to be altered. Very quick, very friendly service - we were in and out within 15 minutes. We received nothing but kind compliments about the upcoming wedding, the color of the dress, and how lovely my daughter looked in it. I had to get some dresses altered for some weddings this upcoming spring and I saw thimbles website which stated that they had people who were good with formal wear. I stopped by on a Saturday and they were reasonably busy but I felt like I was taken care of within a reasonable amount of time. The fittings went smoothly and I felt like my concerns were addressed. For two pieces (hemline and shoulder alterations) it was only $120 and the turn around time was a week . Great thing was I didn't have to pay until pickup so I could check out the work to make sure I was happy with the end results. I can say I definitely was, everything fit perfectly and it was exactly how I wanted it to be! The staff were very helpful and accommodating! Definitely will utilize thimble again! read more

Do yourself a favor and find a different tailor. It's so sad because the original owner of this place was lovely, and it used to be reasonably priced with efficient and warm customer service. I have been taking garments there for 20 years, but after my recent experience I will never go back. Now the owner's daughter has taken over and the prices are ridiculous and service is awful. I should start this review with I used to take ALL of my alterations to Thimble, but will never go back. Cried in my wedding dress, and not the good tears. This is a longer post, but similar to the other brides reviews, re-think taking your wedding dress here, especially if you did not purchase at Silk. Knowing the wedding industry is booming due to shutdowns last year, I called Thimble in mid/late July asking when I would need to take my wedding dress in for alterations. They said they are booking at least 18-weeks out for wedding dress alterations, so I made an appointment in mid-July for wedding dress alterations when my wedding isn't until mid-November. I only received my dress a few days before my appointment and it was a bit snug. I should also state I did not purchase my dress at Silk, and was immediately looked down upon because of it and given attitude right off the bat. I had to wait a bit and was finally escorted back to the fitting room and was left by myself. Nobody helped me in or out of my dress and I was in a small fitting room which my dress and myself barely fit in. When I walked out, step on the podium, I am being eyed up and down not only by Fatima, but the woman waiting for alterations next to me. The first thing Fatima says to me is, "ooh it's tight." Yes, thank you, I know. Then proceeds to tell me I'm supposed to come to her at my "ideal weight" (triggering for anyone that has struggled with their weight) and asked when I got my dress. After I explain, she then gets extremely defensive and tells me that her bridal assistant told me everything she was supposed to. The customer service was non-existent and I cannot believe that someone would speak to another person like that. While I understand they are overworked and overwhelmed, it is no excuse to treat someone like that. Needless to say, I found a new seamstress to do my dress alterations that won't make comments about how my dress doesn't fit and won't charge the $1,000 like Thimble quoted me to add a bustle, take in the straps, and potentially let the dress out. I used to recommend Thimble to everyone, but will never return after this experience. read more

This is not a safe space for someone with body image issues, especially for brides. The comments made and the way my friend was treated was extremely concerning and left her mom and I really emotional this could happen to others. It's sad people are still talking to women about their bodies like this, especially in a space that can be vulnerable and on a day that should be really special. The way the assistant (who was great)was treated was terrible and uncomfortable to watch. A reminder your body is beautiful and perfect just as it is and does not need to change because you're getting married. I hope they find some grace and understanding around this in the future and become aware how impactful their words can be and I hope to find an alternative space to recommend for brides! read more

Best tailor in town. They get it right the first time. Every time I've tried someone else I've been disappointed. Worth the cost

Despite the recent scathing reviews about a rude assistant, I still decided to come in. Unfortunately, the reviews are very much true. A very nasty assistant snapped at me throughout the appointment and was downright rude with every comment she made about my clothing as well as my body. I've never had a tailor make so many negative comments on my figure! Her attitude made the entire experience distressing, as she disregarded my preferences, even telling me to stop talking. I've never had a more inappropriate and uncomfortable experience at a tailor. I've come to thimble in the past, and the owners are usually very kind, so I don't know who this person is but because of her I will never be stepping foot into thimble again. read more

I took a Hickey Freeman Factory suit here to get the sleeves lengthened and the pant legs hemmed. The tailor doubles as a Women's Clothing Boutique, which threw me off at first. I was greeted promptly and within a few minutes, the lady had me wear the suit in front of a mirror to see what adjustments could be made. The suit was pretty fitted already, so her only suggestion was to lengthen the sleeves. She also asked if I a preference on pant length. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. It was easy and efficient. The turn around time was 1 week, but i'm sure that it could be "rushed" if necessary. I was happy with the workmanship, but thought the pricing was on the more expensive side. $52 isn't terrible for quality work, but I know you can probably get the same thing done for cheaper elsewhere. read more

Stopped by on a Friday afternoon to have a few jacket buttons fixed that were coming loose, expecting to be told to come back next week to pick it up. Nope, they asked if I wanted to wait while they made the repair and I said "sure" with a look of surprise. 15 minutes later the buttons were fixed and they handed me the jacket and when I went to pay was told "don't worry about it, it's only a few buttons" Now I have used Thimble a handful of times the past 5 years, maybe 2-3 times per year so they don't know me but wow, did they impress me. As always, they are attentive, quick to acknowledge your presence in the store, provide quality work and their prices are fair and competitive. Funny thing.....I had actually driven to another tailor closer to where I live for convenience purposes and when I got there, they were closed so I drove to Thimble. That will never happen again, Thimble is "MY" tailor and you can be pretty sure that I will recommend them to anyone who asks and probably some who don't. read more

Very nice people, but I have to agree with other comments, the attention to detail is lacking. One pair of shorts now has pockets that are at different heights and one coat has sleeves that do not allow you to lift your arms up. I recently had a maxi dress and my dress for my sister's wedding that needed to be shortened. I was going to take the dress somewhere else but since this place kept coming up with great reviews I decided to come here instead. It was a little hard to find only because there is construction at the plaza and machines were blocking the entrance. Also, the sign says tailor and not the whole business name. I got in and went towards the back and was ushered into a fitting room. We got my maxi dress to the length needed and then I put on my bridesmaid dress and came out. The adjustments were made to shorten that and do some darting at the chest area. A week later, I went back and picked up my dresses. I tried them on just to make sure everything was perfect and everything was perfect in the end. The work was great and it was great service the entire time I was there for both trips the only thing holding me back was the price as others have said. I paid just over $100 to have my dresses shortened and darting done to one. I know I can get the same work cheaper so I may look around but if I haven't found another place as great as here, I will be back. read more

You know those people who plan things months ahead of time? That's usually me. Except when it comes to getting bridesmaid dresses altered. I seem to have this uncanny need to wait till the last minute. Thimble to the rescue! They have always taken care of dress alterations (I am thinking gown/dress alterations are some of the harder ones!) in a timely fashion (about a week or less) and the job is always well done. The young lady (I believe her name is Fatima) is really great at figuring out what adjustments need to be made for a dress to fit comfortably. When you come to pick up the altered piece of clothing, she usually has you try it on to make sure everything fits well. I took off a star because their prices seem to run a little high and you don't usually know the price till she has marked up the changes to be made in tailor chalk and pinned things into place...at that point, it is too late to change your mind because of the quoted price. However, I have never been unhappy with their work so it is not a huge deal. It is just something to keep in mind when you go in here. read more

I go to a high end tailor in Houston frequently when I travel, and I much prefer waiting to get items tailored here. Not only are they extremely honest about whether you will get the results you want, they work with very complex materials and are extremely fairly priced. So far I have simple items tailored such as jeans that are too long, to difficult items, such as removing a train off a French tulle bridal skirt. I only trust thimble tailor to work on my high priced items, so going to them for the easier items is a no brainer. Also, huge perk that the clearance rack is next to the check out and I often find myself nice pieces of bespoke clothing discounted at 50% or more. read more

Made me feel like I couldn't ask for everything that I wanted and then told me certain things couldn't be done even though, as the child of a seamstress who only came here out of convenience of not doing these things myself, I know they could be done and are often done at many upscale tailors. The quality of the work was great but without the Proper time and consultation listening to the customer, things won't be completed to standard. I have to say, I was really disappointed in my last experience at Thimble. This is a long review, so summary here: if you're a bride and are expecting a more private or personal experience, you won't get it here - even with an appointment. If you're a bigger size, you may not be treated the same way so many rave about. I made an appointment for bridal alterations. I called a few times and was told each time someone would call me back, and they never did. Weeks later I was finally able to make an appointment. They make it very clear you need to have the exact shoes before your first appointment, so I frantically found my shoes. When I arrived I was greeted nicely by the owner, given a form to fill out and a place to sit. That's basically where the positive experience ended. I quickly filled out the form and waited... and waited. Finally Fatima came back over and we discussed what I wanted. (No discussion about the dress or what it looked like, just the alterations I had listed.) She was curt and I didn't feel like she actually took the time to listen to what I wanted. Then she ushered me into a dressing room. Not once did she ask if I needed help putting the dress on. It took me quite a while and no one ever checked on me. I finally got into my dress, and went out to wait in line to be fitted. I was barely acknowledged and just had to stand there, holding both ends of the dress up (hem and straps were both too long). When she finally finished with the people ahead of me, she shot me a look and said, "THATS your wedding dress??" in a pretty snide tone. I will grant you - I'm wearing a dark purple bridesmaids dress for my wedding. It's non-traditional, I get that. I never wanted a white dress, it just wasn't me. And I was incredibly confident in my dress choice until the moment she made that comment. I immediately felt judged, exposed, and humiliated. Of course, there were 3-4 other people also waiting to be fitted and they all witnessed our exchange. I mustered through the rest of the (mercifully short, roughly 5 minute) fitting and was incredibly relieved when she told me my alterations wouldn't take long and just to bring the dress back closer to the wedding - but only because it meant I could take my dress and leave without confrontation. There were no compliments on my dress or anything like that - I would have preferred a transparently fake compliment to the attitude I received. At one point she snipped at me to relax my body because I was too tense - I can't imagine why I was so tense! Maybe she was upset because it was an inexpensive dress and she was expecting to charge more for bridal alterations, maybe I took too long to change, maybe the shop was short staffed and busier than usual. Either way, I'm finding someone else to alter my dress and I'm definitely not coming back here for anything else. On a separate note: My fiancé and I have been to Thimble several times throughout the years, and I've changed sizes in that time (sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller). I find when on the bigger side, I'm treated much differently than when I'm smaller. I notice the same thing while waiting for others - smaller people are asked how they'd like things to fit, there's discussion and a personable, jovial back and forth. With bigger people, there's none of that. Just pin, maybe a scolding to stand a different way or a terse, curt question about what shoes you plan to wear, and you're off. read more

I've been in the customer service industry (retail) for the better part of my life and I have to say the worst service ever. Went in to pick up a repair after dropping off a month before. Did not receive a call that it was done (why take my phone number if you're not going to use it?) walked in past 3 employees with no acknowledgment . Not a "hello", not a "be right with you" - nothing. Went to the pick up counter and stood for 5 minutes while the tailors working looked at me with no acknowledgement. Was passed by another employee. Nothing. Now I'm not a small person so it's hard not to miss me but I quess I had on my invisible suit. Finally asked Fatima if I could pick up my item. She acted like I was asking her to give birth on the spot. When I mentioned the lack of service she informed me that the employees don't speak English. I'm not asking them to learn the language just acknowledge I'm there. Thankfully they aren't the only tailors in town that can do repairs. read more

This place was so close to 5 stars, but their prices are just a little too high to get me to give them that last one. That being said, Thimble is great for both tailoring and dry cleaning. I've brought multiple suits in here to be tailored (both jackets and pants) and have always been very happy with the results. The fit is always exactly right and they're professional, timely and always very accommodating. Their dry cleaning services are just as good as their tailoring. I brought in a light suit and white dress shirt that had been doused with a lot of red wine at a recent wedding. When I got it back just 4 days later, the suit and shirt looked like new. I was shocked that they had been able to do it. I will without a doubt be using their services for the long term. I came to Thimble for tailoring per the recommendation of these fine Yelpers who've reviewed before me. I was devastated when my zipper broke on my brand new down winter jacket. I brought it in, they offered me a few choices between zipper color & style. It was fixed it in no time. Since I was happy with my experience, I came back with a dress and two pairs of pants that needed fitting. I had never had tailoring done before so I was a little apprehensive since I didn't know what to expect. The fitting is super quick, Fatima knew exactly what I was looking for following my suggestions for tailoring - I was actually surprised how quickly they were able to fit me. I was in and out of there in 10 minutes. My clothes were ready for pick up by the end of the week. I highly recommend it here! read more

We went in to have half dozen slacks tailored, after one pair the girl (told she is the owner) became very snotty saying they are all the same. The wife stated she has had issues with this in the past and insisted we have them measure each pair. The girl snapped at us again stating "We'll OBVIOUSLY you don't believe me so whatever, we will do it YOUR way". This is unacceptable, we took our belongings and left. We have done a lot of business with them in the past but lately they do not do what you ask, they completely ruined a hat that could not be repaired as well even after they offered to fix it "free of charge" for their mistake.
