I've written a lot of online reviews, usually because I've received especially good service or encountered a very professional organization. But in this case, I have to warn you folks about a company that I recently dealt with that was absolute garbage. And that company is SIGMA TREMBLAY of Wappingers Falls New York. My furnace wasn't working, and there was a dispute with my insurance company about the calls of the failure. And so I called several HVAC companies to come out evaluate and give me estimates for either repair or replacement. Fox Air was exemplary. Folkes was professional and thorough and honest. Steve Winslow of Winslow and sons and daughter was also spectacular. He's the one who initially busted his butt to try and fix my furnace! Awesome guy. I called Sigma Tremblay and scheduled a tech visit for a Monday morning. On Monday a spectacular technician named Kris (honest, straightforward, hard-working, and very professional) came out and took a real good look at my furnace. He told me that he believed the furnace was salvageable and could be repaired. It would most likely cost somewhere under $1,500. I asked him to move forward with my request to do those things and he took the information back to the office. He said that in such cases they would search I would get a call from the service department and they would schedule an appointment for me ASAP. (At this point I had been out of heat for more than 3 weeks). Kris said I would probably hear from the service department Tuesday morning. Tuesday comes, no call. Wednesday comes, no call. I finally called and got their office manager/secretary / I don't even know what, her name is Christine Martini. She informed me that no work was scheduled because the service manager named Troy had decided he didn't want to repair the furnace. And it wasn't worth repairing. I then asked why and if they could not repair it for an estimate for a new system. Christine, for some unknown reason, said that she thought that I didn't want to do business with them!?! Don't know where that came from. I asked to speak to Troy so I could understand his reluctance to work on my furnace, message was left for him to call me, surprise! surprise! no call! The next week; I called and got Christine Martini once again and asked her when we might be doing this estimate for a replacement furnace. She said the owner, John Tremblay, was the only one who did estimates and that he would do mine at the end of the week. I expected some kind of confirmation text message or phone call. But apparently they use technology in their offices from the late 1980s. So Friday morning comes and I called the office and get a very nice woman named Amy (Ashley??). I told her it was early Friday morning and I was expecting Mr Trembley to come out and do an estimate for a new furnace for me and she told me that Mr Trembley does not work on fridays! Nor does Christine! I called several times over this 2 weeks time period asking for callbacks asking for updates on what they wanted to do moving forward and every time I spoke with Christine I got a different story. She was obnoxious, terse, and apparently not very familiar with modern office technology. She makes me think of the girl that barely finished high school and spent her younger years chain smoking in bars. read more

Sigma installed our central AC unit 11 years ago. The Carrier Infinity unit with heat pump and all new duct work (we had none previously) has worked great, no issues at all. They also did a well tank and associated plumbing update for us a few years ago. It wasn't cheap but the work quality was excellent. As far as Sigma goes, I have spoken with Mr. Tremblay, the owner on a few occasions. I believe he is an honest guy and runs a reputable business. They do stand behind their work. It can be hard to get a big project 100% right out of the box. A good company comes back and makes it 100% right. When our AC was installed we also needed to replace our attic fold out ladder. Once done, the framing was smaller and needed more Sheetrock surrounding it. This wasn't in the contract but when we asked for it Sigma sent a workman who "Sheetrocked" the opening, for free. When we were selling our house this year, an electrical inspection found a couple of nit-picky items in the AC install, such as no attic light and no outlet within 30 feet on the exterior. Sigma again sent a workman and fixed the issues so that we were able to get a CO for the AC. This was also done for free. read more

Was referred by central Hudson to have sigma tremblay give an estimate for a oil to gas conversion. It took about 3 weeks for an appointment just to come look because such and such was on vacation. This was august 16th when John came to look at everything. That all went well, friendly and knowledgeable guy. He said I'll be emailing the estimate soon. After not hearing back from them in a couple days, I called up the office and they said they will have it by friday. It is now October, I have still yet to get an estimate. I tried a couple days the following week to see if they have any info. Kept getting the same "it'll be done soon". Just as a reference I called folkes heating, they came the next day and had an estimate emailed to me by the end of that same day. Didn't end up going with folkes either, ended up shopping around a bit and found a private plumber. Regardless... I would give a half a star just because they came they looked around, and then never got back to me. It's unacceptable. read more

One star is two stars too many for this company as it really deserves a negative star. Don't bother with this so-called business. John Tremblay is unprofessional and that is an understatement. I would rather liken his business practices "borderline criminal." He doesn't stand by his warranties. My family has spent over $15,000 with this company servicing our two homes for the past 5 years or so. Recently they put my family in a position where we had no AC because they drained out all of our refrigerant DURING A HEAT WAVE and then quoted a RIDICULOUS price to fix it. John Tremblay ignored my calls for over 10 days DURING A HEAT WAVE and still refuses to talk to me to explain his ridiculously high estimate. MIND YOU we still have one year of our 5 year warranty left on the this AC system we purchased from them for our upstairs portion of the home. Last year, they sent a guy over who claimed we needed a brand new system for our downstairs unit, and he gave some poor justification for it. When I corrected him on the model of our unit, he changed his tune and said all we needed was a capacitor. The unit is still functioning fine a year later. This lackey just wanted to make a commission and John Tremblay just wanted to keep pushing his Carrier systems because that is all his company installs. Their number one guy Troy is the worst. He will lie to your face and threaten you under his breath to charge you more if you didn't like his original inflated bill. read more

A good friend of mine used to work for this company, so knowing this Sigma-trembly was the first call I made when I wanted a price for my home AC to he serviced. To my suprise, when I spoke with them on the phone they wanted to charge me for an estimate! (And it was not cheap!) I was so taken back... "So in order to give an estimate on the job you charge a fee?" I asked, to which they replied along the lines of, "when you hire us we will credit you the estimate charge back". Get out of here, I have never EVER paid for a job estimate. A smart home owner gets at least 3 estimates for large jobs, none of which I was ever charged for. Although I knew the company was capable of doing good work I decided not to go with them, and went with another company who came out, explained the services needed and provided a quote for the job (without a fee!!). No thank you Sigma, I'm not shelling out money for an estimate. read more

I am at my wits end. I can not get any response regarding repair of my humidification system. Last time they "fixed" it after a 5 minute assessment my basement flooded. Cleaning that up with a shop vac was painful. They were there over a month ago and needed to order a part to complete the service. I still have not heard back after 3 calls. Purchased an A/C from them in 2009 with an extended warranty that covers all labor and parts. Had a leak in the air exchange unit after 8 years and they refuse to honor the warranty. I had to paid all the labor charge because they claimed that the service person didn't directly work for them. Recently, I had another problem and they said I needed to replace the compressor for $6,000. It didn't sound right and I called a local HVAC person who fixed it for under $300. read more

They installers got in done in one (long) day. They were polite and professional. The system works as promised (so far). They also processed the paperwork for a rebate from Central Hudson. Unresponsive, Unreliable and possibly Devious. I have a propane gas fireplace and mantel purchased and installed by Sigma-Tremblay a number of years ago. Total price just under $5,500.00. Recently the fireplace would randomly refuse to ignite. I called Sigma-Tremblay and made a appointment for their tech to come to the house for service. On Oct 30 the tech came to our house, did some light maintenance and informed us that the pilot assembly needed replacement. Tech said he would inform Sigma-Tremblay to order the part and get back to me IN A COUPLE OF DAYS with an estimate and to set up a install date. Charge for this visit was $153.00. After not hearing from them for 10 days I called them on Nov 9. at 11:30 AM . Was told that Amy would call me back in as soon as she returned from Lunch.. DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL BACK. Called them back on Nov 12 as 11:45 AM. Was told that Amy would call back when when returned from lunch. DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL BACK Called at 3PM the same day. Was told that Amy would call me back as soon as she was off the phone. NO CALL BACK. Sent them E:mail on Nov 13 informing them that if I did not call me within 24 hours I would call the credit card company and dispute the $153.00 charge. NO CALL BACK from Sigma Temblay. Opened a dispute with the cc company on NOV 14. the cc company gave Sigma-tremblay 30 days to respond to the dispute. NO RESPONSE from Sigma-Tremblay to the cc company as of today. So now almost 2 months later I still have the same problem and must either do the repair myself of find someone else to come out and do another diagnosis of the problem. It amazes me that a company that I Paid $5,500 will not even have the decency to give a me a call. This makes me very suspicious of the initial install of the fireplace. Was it done incorrectly? Was it not up to code? In any case, they are not to be trusted and their lack of response shows a TOTAL disregard to the customer read more

I was referred to Sigma-Tremblay by Energy Kinetics, as they are a licensed dealer. John came to the house, explained about the Energy Kinetics 2000 oil heat and hot water system; honestly, I did my own research beforehand. He explained that they work with NYSERDA and we got a home energy audit, no cost, as well as 3.99% financing on the unit AND a 10% rebate as well. My oil company had quoted me over $7,000 for a replacement boiler with no hot water, around $10,000 with hot water; the EK System 2000 was $11,000, less the 10% rebate and if you study the engineering and mechanics of the system, it is just more efficient, read - cheaper to operate, than the standard cast iron boiler. All three people who had work done by Sigma-Tremblay, that I spoke to, loved their System 2000, so we scheduled one to be installed. The crew showed up on time, took out my 60 year old American Standard and my electric hot water tank, everything was done by 4 pm, and now we have essentially an oil fired, on demand, unlimited hot water supply and a boiler that only runs when there is a load demand. No stand-by running, makes as much noise as a printer when it is on, and does not heat up the boiler room as the cast iron one did. This system has been around for more than 30 years, and as much as I really love my cast iron pots, pans and Dutch ovens - I won;t go back to a cast iron boiler. This is a high end operation, in that one of the installers told me that he has been installing EK units since 1992, the techs know what they are doing, have experience and leave no trace behind them. Luckily, the tech also showed me the hot water valve, that way I'll be able to get my son out of the shower. read more

Sigma-Tremblay installed a carrier a/c unit for us 22 years ago and it's been keeping us cool ever since until 2 days ago. After my husband exhausted all possibilities, I had to call for service. The technician, Troy, was here within a few hours of my call and within 15 mins had the unit running again. He was professional, knowledgeable and very courteous and the charge was reasonable. HORRIBLE COMPANY! We bought a pellet stove insert from them in 2003. They did not get a permit as required. They installed it with the wrong color surround and then tried to convince us that it WAS the right color. They never installed the stove correctly--I found out later from a REAL stove technician that they never installed the leveling bolts. The stove rattled constantly and had a big gap around the edge--big enough for a bat to fly into my living room one night.. When it started burning poorly we called them to repair it. The technician had to come three times (2 weeks apart) because he hadn't ordered the right part. When I called them back later because of the gap and the rattling they told me it would cost an additional $750 to have it re-installed. Their technicians don't care and neither does the owner of the company. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM SIGMA TREMBLAY! read more

I purchased a pellet stove from Sigma Tremblay 2 years ago within a year after it was installed I would smell smoke inside my home. I then hired a professional chimney sweep to clean the stove and the pipe because I feared the smoke was because it needed to be cleaned. It turns out it was poorly installed the joints were never sealed correctly which is why smoke was leaking in my home. Stay away from this company all they care about is $$$$$ and there installers have No CLUE !!!! what they are doing. read more

I had requested a quote for a fireplace insert. Turns out Sigma's was the absolute most expensive quote out of all of them - and, in addition, they wouldn't even handle running the electricity for the blower. They wanted to run an exposed cord from the fireplace to a nearby electrical outlet - and all that for $6000. For that kind of money, I could have the entire fireplace ripped out and a totally brand new one installed by someone else. So, okay, for $6000 what do you get? Not much sales assistance. For this kind of money, I would expect someone to show me all the units, tell me the pros and cons of each one, and (using their expertise) help me to decide which one is best for me. Instead, here you get told what you should buy - and decide fast, there are tons of people right behind you who want this done by Christmas no matter what the cost. Sigma handled oil to gas conversion for me. I really appreciat personal attention given to me by the owner. I am a first time home owner with zero experience using steam heat. John spent considerable amount of time working me through the system, explaining all ins and outs, sharing tips, etc. The system he designed worked through the first winter like clockworks, and it is a 1890 house with a system that used to be coal steam converted to oil in the 1960s, so that says a lot about his understanding of steam systems. The actual workers were.. sloppy, yet the actual unit has worked without kinks for 4 months now. They caused several small accidents that they duly fixed, and I kind of happy they caused them and fixed free of charge, as the items were ready to fail anyway (there was a 100 years old 200 gallon cold water storage tank from the time the system was run on coal, the water still cycled through it to get to the boiler - while creating a bypass they stripped a valve on the tank and had to drain it, repipe everything and take the tank outside, something I wanted to do anyway... Then they knocked a copper pipe that brought oil to the water heater causing a small oil spill, they ended up repiping the whole oil line, the old pipe was frail and was bound to fail, luckily not on my dime :). They also had couple wiring issues and it the job took way longer than planned. Sigma owner was very supportive, didn't argue or try to shift blame on me, everything was fixed, they even bought me new basement mats to replace the ones that got oil on them. Given these old system apparently are very hard to convert and somewhat unpredictable, I'm happy with Sigma and would use them again. But I would make sure I am at home to keep an eye and make sure mistakes are addressed immediately. read more

Our furnace started reporting errors on the thermostat mid-winter. We had Sigma-Tremblay in to assess the situation. We were told we needed a few thousand dollars in repair to the furnace. The night before they were scheduled to arrive we received what was essentially a shakedown call. The parts were all of a sudden not going to be enough, we were going to need an entirely new furnace for a few thousand dollars more. Mind you, this is in the cold of winter and we have young children. We got am emergency service from Sears home repair who fixed the problem within a few days simply by putting in a new ignition switch which had broken for a total cost of a few hundred dollars. I've read about furnace scams taking advantage of the elderly and other perceived marks. While this *could* possibly be all a big mistake, Sigma Tremblay never responded to our follow up inquiries or our official complaint. Not saying anything inflammatory here, but these are all facts. read more

Terrible customer service. I've called them repeatedly about ordering a part for a unit they installed for a previous home owner. I have litterally called 6 or 7 times and never received a return call. The first conversation seemed like I was bothering them with the order. They said the ordered the part but two weeks later when I called to check on it they claimed it was backordered but needed all the info again. I called a 3rd time to check on the backorder and was told it wasnt in yet (another 2 weeks but they supposedly get weekly deliveries.). The part is a thermal couple which is VERY commonly replaced and I spoke to the manufacturer and they had them in stock. I called twice more and left message and on the last call was asked for the info again but was again seemingly bothering the people working there with a request for their serivce. I've contacted the manufacturer, gotten a referral to another dealer who actually provided customer service and was helpful. No, I'll NEVER use this company. Beware. read more
