I just went to Sid's for the first time since moving to Winnemucca a year ago. For many months I didn't even know Sid's existed. Its very basic outside decor is easily overrun by the BBQ joint next door or the Casino across the street. The bland decor continues to the inside, but I can't complain. As soon as you walk into Sid's you know you are in a real, no frills diner. I only got to look at the breakfast menu, but it was fairly extensive. In addition to the standard diner fare (eggs, pancakes, waffles, etc), they had quite a list of different omelettes from which to choose. I went with the taco ommelette, which I don't recall ever having seen this offered elsewhere. It was very good as were the diced potatoes I got with it. The portion was large enough for me to leave very full and bring home some of the omelette and toast to snack on later. This may not be the home run restaurant in town, but I'll definitely be making my way back. read more

Sid's... used to be a Jerry's, and also my first job at the tender age of 15 3/4. When Sid's moved in they painted (a couple times) and re-upholstered the booths, otherwise it is largely the same, and makes me nostalgic when I go in. Sid's also was started by a cook who left the Griddle, I believe once upon a time, the food had some of the Griddle's signature dishes, now-a-days, its typical greasy spoon diner food. Dinner has a splash of Mexican influences as well. On this particular visit, I went for breakfast, I was able to substitute out toast for 3 silver dollar pancakes, a total win and for no extra charge. It was the perfect amount of pancake and sweetness I was craving to go with my ham and eggs, they don't have a large ham steak here, just a half sized one, but it still had that restaurant griddle flavor you can only find in a diner. Prices are great and service was just right. They don't have a computer system in so they still are old fashioned and writing and totaling up the orders by hand. If there could be a worse restaurant for breakfast I can't imagine. Talk about super overpriced and just horrible food. My mom, aunt, and I all came here for breakfast a few days ago...HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!! The food is so over-priced that our three meals after tip were $40! My aunt's omelette had VELVEETA in it...or some other fake crap cheese. My mom's sausage patties were just horrible. I don't know what they're serving, it's not your typical breakfast sausage...it had the worst after taste and even got me sick to the point of almost not wanting to finish my craptastic meal. So they changed out the patties with the weird weird aftertaste of herbs or sage or trash...the links they brought back looked like dog poop wrapped in plastic and then overcooked...I cannot describe my horror and didn't even want to take a pic of them because they'll haunt me for life...they apparently tasted even worse than the trash patties. My order, was a simple bacon, eggs and pancakes. The bacon looked as though it had been cooked the night before, was cold, no oil or grease to indicate just-cooked-ness, and tasted ok. The eggs seemed like a mix or liquid, not real. The pancakes were the best of the meal BUT the syrup was so weird!!! Like, it was slime, and even when I poured it it took a while to come out, rolled off my pancakes and pooled into a weird slimy mess of sugary grossness. I don't think I would ever eat here again, or recommend it. Maybe they're going to be on Kitchen Nightmares or Restaurant Impossible soon...if not they should be. We got a late start out of San Francisco, stopped for lunch in Roseville, and were not going to make Elko in time for anything other than MacDonald's, so we stopped in Winnemucca for some chow. When we got there, there were 3 patrol cars already parked, so we knew it would be okay food (we are used to seeing SF's finest in Max's,) This is one of the cleanest restaurants you will ever see. For cleanliness alone, 5 stars. The food was about 2 stars (so the cops don't eat as well in Winnemucca as in San Francisco, big surpise). The service was 5 stars, very friendly and attentive. I had the meatloaf dinner with a baked potato and salad, Steve had a burger and fries. The leather booth was very comfortable. And then we were off in the night across the desert, making Elko in less than two hours (I am tempted to review parts of Interstate 80 and this would be one of the fastest roads I have ever driven). read more

On a recent road trip from the Bay Area to Wyoming, we used our wonderful app WAZE to help us find good places to eat along the way. We found Sid's in Winnemucca and were happy we did! It's a family restaurant, not glamorous, but just genuinely good! The service was friendly, the menu had tons of variety and our meal was just plain good! I had the taco salad - nothing fancy, but fresh and tasty. The prices were reasonable, the portions were really generous and it was such a better choice than any fast food place. I will definitely go there again when I'm on my way through Winnemucca! read more

We stop here on our way to & from southern Idaho. Been here about 12 times now & that number will NOT go up. Stopped on the way back home on 12/17/11. The service was SLOW, there was 3 waitresses & 4 tables to serve, so it was not that busy. The food was good as usual, but then my 3 year old needed to use the restroom. The whole back half of the building smelled like someone pooped on the floor. A lot. My son smelled it first & started gagging. Then it hit me & I even started to gag. It was awful & disgusting!! ummmm.... had the club sandwich and fries... the fries were good. The sandwich was not well put together; in fact the mayo seemed to act like Teflon on the bread so the ham and turkey wanted to launch in different directions. "Mediocre" best describes the service, ambience, and food. The fries are a bright point: about perfect! Burgers are kinda dry....spaghetti tasted a lot like it came out of a can. The Santa Fe Chicken sandwich sounded yummy: sliced beef and bacon bits.....it's was filling. If the roll had ANY texture at all, it would have been another star. Why did we go? Well, the menu IS totally huge! Something for everyone, it's what we required. Overall, I'd have rather opted for fast food. Didn't try them, but the pecan pie looked totally enticing. I absolutely loved this charming diner. The whole atmosphere is great and like one of those classic diners you see on movies. I ordered the meatloaf and it came on white bread with mashed potatoes and it was all smothered in gravy. I unfortunately thought the portion was a bit small for the price of 9.39 but it did fill me up. I would give this place 5 stars but I wish they served breakfast all day. We were in Winnemucca for an overnight visit and looking for a restaurant where we could have breakfast for dinner. Sid's was perfect. I ordered a vegetarian omelet and my wife had blueberry pancakes. Plenty of blueberries in the pancakes and plenty of vegetables in the omelet. The hash browns were cooked just right. I'm only giving Sid's a one star because I have to give something. We decided to go to Sid's because we were staying at the neighboring Super 8 motel. Our options were Sid's or the BBQ joint. I really didn't feel like dealing with the pub atmosphere at the BBQ joint so we headed to Sid's. After all, there were a few cops there so we figured the food must be good right? The food was horrible. My fiance ordered the Turkey Dinner. You'd think something similar to well, a turkey dinner. NOT. The "Turkey Dinner" had a piece of cheap, white bread on the bottom of the plate with a slice of turkey lunch meat on top, topped with a very bland and questionable gravy. My mom and I both ordered the shrimp basket with french fries which were clearly a bulk, frozen item bought from Costco. With a ton of added salt and pepper to my fiance's "Turkey Dinner," it was somewhat more edible. By the time we were halfway done with out meal, it was 8pm and the waitresses made it clear they were closing. We choked down our meals and headed to the front to pay. No one acknowledged we were there for awhile. A person cleaning right next to us never even looked up at us or went to find someone to ring us up. He was too busy cleaning the floor, possibly trying to disguise the sewer smell that lingered throughout the joint. When we left the following morning, Sid's was completely full, with cops again. Not sure what the hype is about this place. Definitely will not go back. If I ever get a shrimp craving while driving through Winnemucca again, and if my fiance ever gets a turkey craving again, we'll make sure to hit up Long John Silvers and the deli section of Wal Mart for some sliced turkey. Not only would these two locations be better on our pocketbooks, but better on our stomach's. read more

Went to Sid's and I and my wife had a bowl of soup and a ham and cheese sandwich they were on par with any other dinner serving the same thing, But this is where the problem started. The serving of frys were burnt over cooked and shriveled, using the frys at a fast food restaurant as a gold standard these frys were the ones you would slide off the side of the plate as bad, enough said!!!! Being a good sport I picked out the few that looked good but after a few I got frustrated and quit with enough frys left on the plate that it looked like nothing was touched. I then called the waitress over and asked if she could see about taking buck off the tab, she said she would talk to the manager . she returned and said no she couldn't with no apology and no other solution and totally indifferent to the situation. I then went up to pay my bill and mentioned the problem to the casher . Well as soon as she heard about my complaint she didn't say a word she spun around and walked off !!!!! and sent the waitress to check me out. The point here in my case if you get a plate of bad food forget about this dinner trying to do the right thing and making it right. It seem what they care about is being rude and not caring about there customer and if the food is not right tough cookies to you. I'm 65 and have NEVER had to do this, but they treated my wife and I so poorly that I felt someone had to know and be warned. read more

I hadn't been to Sid's in almost 15 years and stopped in for lunch today on our way home (Boise) from Lake Tahoe. It was about 1p on a Friday and it wasn't very busy. I ordered the Chimichanga which tasted like something from a box in the freezer and hubby had the club sandwich which I think was decent, but his fries were cool and limp looking. It seemed to be the bottom of the lunch batch. The waitress was nice but didn't seem to understand that i wanted the guacamole on "the side" so it came mixed in with my lunch. Not horrible, but I may wait to eat in Reno or Boise next time. read more

Ok, so this place has way too high of an overall rating. Everything in Winnemucca is pretty much crap which includes this place. Somehow they were able to get my 7-UP to taste like mix between a casino floor and old coins. I'm pretty sure they use old dishes they were able to get cheap from one of the casinos that went out of business. They probably got the entire decor the same way. If you want to fee like you went back in time to 1985 and were stuck in some horrible movie seated next to John Candy, then go here. Except he is dead and he left behind his smell and it is his strongest legacy. I can't believe they weren't even able to make the fries taste good. We stopped to eat lunch at Sid's on our way to California, and it was okay. The service was very friendly and the food was fresh, like you'd expect at a mom-and-pop restaurant, but the portions were small. For example, my very-average-tasting Cajun chicken sandwich had a wafer-thin, maybe 2 oz. at the most, piece of meat on it, and my "cup" of split pea soup wasn't a cup (although it had great flavor). The prices were the biggest turn-off, though. Food like this should be $2 per plate cheaper, especially for lunch. Because of the prices, we skipped Sid's on the way back through. read more
