I am puzzled by the extremely positive reviews I read on Yelp before eating here... I grew up in LA, I will try to lessen my expectations as the general quality of Mexican food on the east coast is nowhere near that of Southern California... so here we go. The chicken platter looks like a halal plate, not Mexican. The same chicken is used in their chicken tacos. The flavor isn't right, and because they decided to not cube it like would be normal at damn near any Mexican restaurant one might go to, it's dry af. I ordered a carne asada torta. They should not call the item I received carne asada. Call it stringy stew beef torta, cuz this shit ain't carne. The flavor is bad on the beef, bland on the beans, overall just not good. Excellent al pastor burrito and carne asada torta. Excellent bread for the torta. Both the burrito and torta had moist meat without being drippy wet. FYI, burritos have lettuce here. Avoid this if its not your jive. al pastor was juicy with nice sweet pineapple. nachos is good overall. every once in awhile I found a stale chip. Love the mexican cheese and crema. Ive had this both with chicken and steak, go with the carne asada. they are pretty quick with courteous service. dont forget to pick up your mexican sodas with your food. read more

Valentino gets it right: cheap, fresh, delicious. Tacos here are $2.50. The meat is always juicy, the veggies bright, and the tortillas soft yet firm. Two will suffice, three is delightful overkill. Also known as Taco King. This truck is a fixture by NYU. You'll see it at Laguardia between 3rd and 4th street during the day (til about 6:30) and then at Thomson and Bleecker on nights and weekends. It's phenomenal. Great value, and delicious every time. I've probably been here about 50-60 times and never been less than extremely satisfied. Apparently there's a lot of confusion around this area about where Sidewalk Tacos truck ends and Taqueria Garibaldi begins*. Confusingly, Taqueria Garibaldi is typically parked farther from the statue that's presumably its namesake. Ordered one al pastor (after reading the item right off the truck-side menu) and was asked "What is that?" (first off, that answer at a taco truck? really? second off, don't post it and act clueless)...repeated it and was then told "I have pork and chicken"..."OK, pork"..."OK, 1 carnitas taco" Then requested sauce like everyone else once it was ready, and apparently wasn't deserving, as the response was "huh?"..repeated the request..."no, in there already". Been here a handful of times now and have tried every taco (except vegetable...who eats vegetables....?) on the menu along with a few sopes and cemitas. Most of their tacos have great flavor, only one I didn't really care for was the steak taco beef tongue was also only OK. favorites are spicy pork, pineapple pork, and chicken Thought the sope was just OK - was very large, more like a huarache, flavor was OK. Eat this right away, I can see it getting soggy and gross real quick (like most everything from a taqueria). Now the cemita...debating giving these guys the fifth star just for introducing me to the cemita...amazing. Much better than its sandwichesque brother the torta. The cemita is a lot of food, I got the spicy pork. Comes with beans, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, avocado, papalo, chipotle sauce, mayo, choice of meat all on a nice soft roll. AMAZING- good ratios. If I recommended one thing to try here it would be this. I've been to a bunch of taquerias, but garibaldi is the first place I have encountered the cemita. I know they arent the only ones that sell it, i just dont find it as easily as a taco.... Very nice dudes that work there, check the place out. So, this is the best proper taco/Mexican place in the NYU area. All that pretentious fusion or Chinese Mexican food can shove it. The guys who work here are wicked nice and work super fast when they need to. That said, I don't think that I have ever had a taco from this place. I have only eaten their tortas, cemitas, burritos, and tamales. The tortas here are superlative. They are super moist and juicy. I usually get the veggie torta, and it really cannot be beat. I also had the lengua before, which was pretty good as well. Tortas are my go-to in all Mexican restaurants, and these are amongst the best. I live in a Mexican neighborhood and the tortas here are generally not as good. The tamales are a superb value. For two dollars you get almost an entire lunch. I think that the burritos, especially the veggie ones, can be a bit on the lame side. The cemitas are good, but I prefer the tortas. All in all, if you are hankering for Mexican food around NYU, then this place is an excellent option (Dos Torros gave my friend food poisoning right before finals, so beware). Ain't no reason to go to Chipotle if the real deal exists, and this is the real deal. read more

I love this taco truck! They're usually parked outside Bobst Library at NYU, which makes it super convenient when I'm trying to get a quick lunch. I've tried their chicken, steak, carnitas, and pork tacos. The first three are my favorite, but that could be because I'm not the biggest fan of pork. Their tacos come out pretty quickly and come with the radish and lime on the side. The guy who cooks is really polite and efficient as well. Basically, great tacos, great service, and great location. I was visiting New York and staying in the Bowery Hostel, and the first night my girlfriend and I went out exploring we wound up here. I consider myself a taco connoisseur, having lived in the Yucatan for a while, and a huge portion of the taqueria's I've tried stateside just don't cut it. However, finding this little taco truck made my life better. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that you'll not find better tacos anywhere else in the tri-state region. Terrible and caused shocking food poisoning. Both diners ordered steak options and within a couple of hours were violently ill with salmonella poisoning for many days. This food truck parks outside of work (NYU Bobst Library) almost every day, and it is truly some of the best Mexican food I have ever tasted in my life. For $7 you can get a giant burrito made of fresh ingredients. Add another buck for a beverage. I actually thought the food here was quite decent. Especially for the price. Is it Sunset Park quality? No, of course not. But if you're in the Village and looking for a burrito, I can't think of a better nearby option. I've had mixed quality at Dos Toros and would recommend this over it. Probably carnitas is their best meat -- definitely if you're getting their tacos. SOLID. If I had to think of one word to describe this taco truck, it's solid. It's located at the corner of Bleeker and Thompson in front of the CVS. I had a chicken burrito for the first time last night after a show at Le Poisson Rouge and it definitely hits the spot. The two nice fellows manning the truck don't speak English too well so there was a little hitch when ordering but it's all good at the end. My burrito came out warm, big, flavorful, and was delicious. Like others have said, it definitely has a spicy element to it which I don't mind. To me, it was just the right amount. With a soda, my total was $8. They also stuffed a fistful of napkins in the bag which is always appreciated. Next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll try the tacos as well as the nachos which apparently have received rave reviews. Yes! I found my go to spot for late night mexican food cravings!!!! read more
