I will ride in this Sidecar any time. Had a chance to stop in when a few friends weren't ready for our holiday galavanting to end. Eggnog on tap? Yes, please! If eggnog was sold year round, my waistline would not appreciate it. This concoction packed a nice punch. And while at first we were concerned I was slightly cheated with the small glass, we quickly figured out why it was such a small serving. WOW! For my second round, my husband ordered the Dr. Bombay's Mule. This drink was a nice twist on one of my classic favorites - the Moscow Mule. The flavors worked well together and were nice on the palate. Parking happened to be a breeze while we were there and we got to cap off a special night with good friends. It's quite a drive back to the beach, so I really won't be able to end my nights here on a regular basis, but it's a great place to share a cocktail with friends. read more

Sidecar is one of my favorite places in Jax! The drinks do not have a lot of "fillers", which I am a big fan of. To me if I am paying $10 for a drink I dont need a huge glass filled with 90% juice or soda. All of the bartenders are very pleasant and you can tell that they enjoy being there. Best secret hideaway in Jacksonville! Wish I'd known about this place when I first got to town! Very cozy place, but spacious and inviting. V Pizza is right next door, which is another huge bonus. Some of the cocktails are antiques, and expertly recreated by their bar staff. They are more artisans than anything. Tasty tasty cocktails. Try the Pilot Light; it was my personal favorite. They actually had Orphan Barrel's Barterhouse bourbon! Amazing! When I'm in town next, definitely heading here. read more

Came here on a Friday night and had a blast! The live music was awesome (Go Ramona!) My friends and I stood at the bar for little before a table opened up and we snuck into that spot. I actually stumbled upon this place when I went to get food at the pizza place next door. I was told I could bring my pizza into the bar so I figured why not. I was quickly greeted by one of the bartenders who gave me a drink menu. They have a nice selection of liquors along with a cocktail list. I tried a few different drinks all of which were very good and also reasonably priced. I came during the middle of the week and it was rather busy so I can only imagine how busy this place must get on the weekend. Loved Sidecar! I had been wanting to try it for quite a while. I tried a classic daiquiri, and it was delicious. I'm excited to go back for one of their signature cocktails! The price range is about $8-$10 per cocktail, which is about the going rate for most of the upscale bars in Jax. We also ordered a pizza from V's Pizza (which was delicious) and you can bring your meal into Sidecar. Pair your pizza with some whiskey or a cocktail! If I could describe my experience at Sidecar in two words, they'd probably be underwhelmed and uncomfortable. Sidecar is a favorite of a lot of yelpers so of course I was excited to try their drinks for myself. I got a New York Sour, which is made with Old forester bourbon, lemon, sugar, and red wine. It was a good drink, I won't lie, and had circumstances been different, I would've probably given Sidecar at least four stars and ordered another. Sidecar has a nice ambiance; it's dimly lit and there's bar seating as well as table seating inside and outside. You can only order from the bar, which wasn't completely ideal, but not a problem. My issue came when I went to the bar to order. I had been sitting at one of their tables with my friend, waiting for a spot at the bar to open up so I could order a drink. It was pretty crowded because it was happy hour, but that was to be expected. After a bit, I saw a woman get up and leave from her chair at the bar, so I went over and sat down. I asked one of the female bartenders if happy hour was still on and a friendly woman sitting next to me answered saying that I still had about 15 minutes. So I ordered my drink and my friend walked over to order hers. A few minutes later, a man walks over and stands behind me/next to the woman sitting beside me who had spoken to me earlier. They start talking and all is good. The service up to that point had been pretty great. The bartenders are friendly and the female bartender helped my friend decide what drink she wanted when she wasn't sure. As I got my drink, the bartender tells me that I'm sitting in the seat of the man standing behind me and basically that I should get up so he can sit next to his wife. I did get up, but I will say that this rubbed me the wrong way. What's crazy is that the bartender asked me to get up in the nicest way possible (I wish I could remember exactly how he phrased it), but the fact that he told me that at all made me a little uncomfortable. After I got up, I stood next to the bar until my friend's drink was finished, which was about 5 minutes. The man behind me never once made a move to sit in that chair during that time. It wasn't until we walked back to the table that he sat down. I have no problem getting up if I'm in another person's seat, because I know it can be pretty annoying when I come back to find someone else in a seat that I was just sitting in. I get it. However, I had spoken to this man's wife about ten minutes before and she never mentioned that the seat was taken. The man himself came and stood by his wife/behind me and never mentioned that I was sitting in his chair. Also, there was another woman sitting in that same chair right before I was, so he must've been gone for a little while. Had either this man or his wife told me that the seat was taken, I would have had no problem. What soured my experience was when the bartender took it upon himself to tell me to get up. This man and his wife are adults, as am I. Had they really wanted me to get out of that seat, they could have told me themselves. I would have had no issues had that been the case. There could have also been a multitude of reasons why this man never asked me to vacate his seat. Maybe he was being a gentleman and saw that I was wearing high heels, maybe he could see that I'd be going back to the table as soon as my friend got her drink (which I was, because she was still standing), maybe he mentioned it or gestured to the bartender behind my back, or maybe he just didn't think it was an issue, who knows. Needless to say, the whole thing just killed my vibe. Everything else about Sidecar was pretty good; I liked their leather-bound menus and the drink itself was also pretty tasty. The parking is a little tricky, but it's no worse than parking downtown, so it's fine. It's unfortunate that this incident had to occur because I probably would have been back to Sidecar, but now I don't think I'll return. Sad, because they have so many interesting drinks that I would've liked to have tried. read more

I love that it's adjacent to V Pizza, because pizza and cocktails go amazing together! My personal favorites are El Chongo and Midnight Train, fresh, refreshing, delicious, these are the kind of drinks that after a few that sneak up on you and make you feel buzzy in the best kind of way. Came here with a group of co-workers after a long shift on a Sunday night. We ordered pizza next door and came to grab a drink. We were approached by a "medical sales rep" (that could not provide a business card) that wanted to tell us about her company's new software. She was drunk but friendly enough so we listened. She offered to buy us drinks but demanded we give her our full names, which we kindly declined. She continued to persist for our full names to turn in to her boss to write off the expense so it didn't look like she was just out at a bar (...which she was?) We were clearly uncomfortable, but cornered while awaiting our food and drink order. Thankfully, the bartender, Shannon, was aware of the situation and told her she couldn't do this here. It wasn't your typical bar situation but I'm glad Shannon was paying attention and was confident enough to step in. The evening was going south and she saved the day. Later, she came by our table to check on us, make sure we were okay, and apologized if she stepped on anyone's toes. In addition to all this, Sidecar served up some awesome cocktails AND it was all day happy hour on Sunday! We will definitely be returning. read more

Sidecar is a great addition to the scene in San Marco. They are located next door to the newly opened V PIzza and across the street (roughly) from Aardwolf Brewery. The vibe of the place is classy hipster cool, with detailed murals on the outside walls and handwritten drink special menus inside. The selection of whiskeys (Irish, Scotch and Bourbon) was pretty impressive. The other liquors were well chosen as well. They clearly put thought into their selections, which I appreciate. They have cocktails on tap that are basically like a punch: mixed beforehand and easy to access. I tried one and it was really nice. It had strawberry shrub, gin, black tea and number of other ingredients that worked out to a refreshing drink that was very fruity but had a tart, puckery aftertaste. I really enjoyed it. It's a little on the pricey side for cocktails, but if you go during happy hour, it's really not too bad. Besides, in this case, you get what you pay for! read more

Sidecar is one of my favorite places in all of Jacksonville. The craft cocktail wave finally made it over here and I think Sidecar is the best example in town. It already gets a star for being attached to V Pizza - V has the best pizza in town, so when you're a few drinks deep it's really convenient to have that great pizza delivered. I still haven't sat on the large patio, but once it cools off again in a few months it looks like a great spot. Lots of exposed brick on the inside, and they even have a couch or two in the back. Anyway, when I was in college the idea of paying $10 or more made my head hurt - that wouldn't happen at the beaches bars. Now that I'm not out until 2 every morning, I'd much rather pay $10 for an enjoyable, unique cocktail than multiple watered down well+mixer drinks that cost less. Sidecar is the best place for this. The menu has both their signature drinks as well as all of the classic cocktails you would expect. They often have a concoction on draft - the last time I was there they had a drink called a doctor's cocktail on draft that is one of my favorite drinks I've ever had. Lastly, the service is fantastic. Don't expect table service, because they don't do it. I think that throws some people off initially. The bartenders (and Dan in particular) have an encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails and you can learn a lot just chatting with them while they make your drink. Sure, it's a little more expensive, but you basically get a miniature class on mixology with each drink. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

Right across from Aardwolf, Sidecar offers a great lounge atmosphere while steering away from the off putting im-too-fancy-for-this-drink vibe many cocktail lounges are subject to. I went with about 12 of my closest friends for opening day. I was a little weary to try a place on the first day of business but they passed the test with flying colors! I tried the Hemingway Daquiri, a margarita's classy cousin. This refreshing drink combined with their outdoor seating area was the perfect way to end a work day. I will definitely be back! Drinks were great, but what really sold me was the service. Went there on a busy Friday evening and was pleasantly surprised to see that though there were only two bartenders, not one customer was unattended. My fiancé and I got two seats at the bar, and watched as the the bartenders on staff did this amazing dance of customer service and drink making. Credit must also be given to a third gentleman working as their bar back, seamlessly restocking anything necessary.
