Stopped by for a drink with a friend on a Friday night, and had one of the best Old Fashioned cocktails I've had in a long time. It was a cool-looking place, dimly lit, sharing a wall with a pizza place (and it looked like you could possibly come and go between the two, almost like they were sister businesses). Not much seating inside, but there were picnic tables out on their front patio, which is where we sat and talked and enjoyed our drinks. There's a small parking lot behind the building, but you can't really tell that if you're driving around out front, looking for a spot. In sum: A+ Old Fashioned, but I don't know that the overall experience made a huge impression on me. I know a lot of people love it here, so I may have just visited on an off night! read more

So after our Yelp event here I was determined to come back and so glad I finally did. There specials are great (I should know I had 3) and priced very well. The atmosphere is earthy and chillaxed. The bartendars are attentative to your needs, but they didnt talk much. The parking is a hit n miss but no complaints. The pizza smell from next door will drive you over there by the end of the night so be prepared for a taste of pizza heaven. One of my favorite things to do when I find a true craft bar is let the bartender know what I don't like (gin) and then ask them to make me their specialty from any other liquor option. Last night I ended up with two perfect drinks. I absolutely love the use of basil in drinks and they did not disappoint. The smell when you walk in is intoxicating, the vibe is that you just joined old friends for a night of relaxed conversation, and the location made me feel like we found a hidden gem. It is tucked into a corner of the pizza place next door dark and hidden away but warm and welcoming from the first step inside. We stayed inside but the outdoor seating was plentiful. Feel free to bring your dog to the outdoor seating. I also felt the prices were very good and one of the main reasons I will return. Sidecar is literally a " side bar" to the new pizza place V in San Marco. The bar and the restaurant are joined by two doors and share the same bathrooms. You can order food at the Sidecar too. There are about four tables inside the actual bar to eat at and then a big outdoor section with long picnic-like tables - great for a big group! The bar has a good cocktail menu with all the classics like manhattans, negronis, and of course side cars. They also have some fun cocktails like the Summer Abroad which is made with St Augustine vodka and literally tastes like summer. Quite a few beers on tap, all the local goodies, and a bunch of bottled beers too. Wine list looked good - had a Pinot Noir from Oregon which I tend to love! The bar was loud but I like that. Two Tvs on the brick wall behind the bar which no one was paying attention too. Had a chalkboard on the wall with even more specialty cocktails and all their happy hour info. Happy hour from 4-7 and loads of good deals, I remember seeing that classic cocktails went down to $6 at happy hour. I visited Sidecar for the first time on Friday evening around 7 with some girlfriends. The bar itself is cool--dim lighting (the lights were actually those funky antique-looking Edison bulbs, which give the place a classic, Prohibition feel), cozy, somewhere you can get comfy and stay a while (which we did!) We chose the wrap-around couch in the back to park it. They offer happy hour from 4-7, with $6 "Classic" cocktails, $1 off draft beers and $2 off glasses of wine. I had to go with the "la Buena Vida" cocktail with house infused chorizo mescal (say what?!) It was the obvious choice for me. :) There is no service at the tables, so you go up to the bar to order. I waited for [more than] a few minutes to be acknowledged and place our order. There were only two bartenders at that time, which didn't really cut the mustard when the majority of their menu is craft cocktails. By nature, these require more ingredients and, therefore, time to prepare. My "meat" cocktail was tasty and refreshing though. We also ordered a margherita pizza to share from V's next door, which came out hot and fresh. The bar has V's menus available and will bring your food and utensils to your table. Overall, we had a great time at Sidecar. It was a chill venue to relax and catch up with friends. This was my first time at Sidecar and I definitely dig the vibe. The service was great. The drinks were good as was the pizza. Will I be back, yes, but probably not too often. Unfortunately, I'm just not a big Bourbon or Whiskey drinker and since that's kind of their thing it's just not really my kind of place. I'm always up for a place to try a good drink, not saying that I drink often but sometimes it's a nice end to a work week. That being said, I was excited to try Sidecar and try out the drinks and ambience that others on Yelp were raving about. To be honest, I don't feel I had a legitimate Sidecar experience so in honesty I feel rather neutral about the place. The setup itself has a nice dim lighting, couple-esque date night kind of sexy vibe. Which I'm all for. Of course, I went with my best friend who is very much a girl; not with a guy on a date. I would give it another try for a date night. It's connected to V Pizza so we entered through the V Pizza connector door versus the Sidecar entrance because parking space around the whole building is limited and a pain to find. There are maybe 3-4 tables set up inside with four chairs per table and a highback lounge couch at the end of the row of tables inside. There's seating outside which would have been nice to sit at but they were packed. The bar set up was nice enough. It was altogether pretty casual. You have to order at the bar which is fine but that was also packed so finding a spot where you can get in for a bartender to notice you is something to be prepared for. Or at least it was on the Friday night we went. Their "happy hour" menu drinks are actually on the wall opposite the bar, high enough so that no ones head is in the way of it, but then again not necessarily low enough that you would notice it immediately unless you knew where to look. And with the dim lighting it was kind of hard to make out the wording a little. Or maybe I'm just more visually impaired than I thought. But I don't think so. I actually only got one drink even though my intention at the beginning was to get more. But I quickly saw that $7 per classic Cocktail bill adding up and only got one. To honestly couldn't tell you what was in the Singapore Sling, besides a cleverly mixed blend of strong, good alcohol and some lime/lemon juice. It was good though. Real good. Like I said, I think I need to give Sidecar another chance under different circumstances. That night I wasn't really feeling the vibe, but their drinks are good and strong. Transplanting here from bourbon country it was a concern to find a cozy place where I could get a good glass of bourbon. Don't drink them but they have a good cocktail selection. When sidecar opened up a few years ago, I remember being one of their first customers, in on a Sunday afternoon by chance and enjoying their all day happy hour specials. Sidecar has a special place in my heart for being one of the first cocktail bars I've been to. I haven't been back as often as I used to, but their craft cocktails were made seasonally with some great names. Thursday nights is always Trivia, and was a great spot to come in with friends and order some pizza next door. I only have a few gripes with the place and most are fairly small. The drinks just don't taste as good as they used to, maybe it's the bartenders, maybe it's the new proportions. I'm not sure. But I vividly remember my Old Fashioneds having an UMPH to them. The perfect amount of bitters. The perfect amount of sweetness. The aroma of orange peel sprayed and rimmed around the top of the glass before being dropped in. Fond memories. Now, it seems it's lacking something. Maybe not enough bitters? Maybe not enough sweetness? My second gripe is the whisk(e)y menu doesn't have any prices in them. The craft cocktails, the classics are all labeled but for having such a large selection of whiskies on the wall I'm surprised it's not listed. I'm an introvert 7 days out of the week and I just don't like having to ask the price on everything I'm interested in, and there's a LOT of stuff I'm interested in. All in all, it's a great place to introduce yourself or friends to craft cocktails, a great place to play trivia, and a great place for happy hour on Sundays. Super friendly and knowledgeable about all the liquors. They even had a couple of gins that we rarely see other places. We were in from out of town and came here after seeing the other pictures on yelp. The environment was unpretentious and even has tv's for the sports fans out there who want a killer cocktail. If your hungry, give the wings a try. You can order them from the bar, but they come from the pizza joint they are attached to. It's a perfect combo! They cook them by throwing them in the pizza oven. We eat wings ALL the time and these are some of the best. Perfectly made and delicious, next a manhattan - again perfect - luxardo cherries. And last, an old fashioned, again perfectly made. For food I had caprese and the Calabrian wings. The Caprese was textbook and the balsamic was tasty. I've been to V's a few times and the Calabrian roasted wings are really good. I ask for them extra crispy.
