We were traveling on I84 and saw this place on Yelp and decided to try it for lunch. The four of us had burgers which were excellent. The burgers were large and tasty and served with lots of fries. The service was excellent. We didn't try any of the beers but we did notice a large selection. The restaurant is in a former firehouse so it has great ambiance. read more

After a long day of driving, we decided to stop in and try a couple of beers and share a burger. Wow, what a gem of a brewery! The place is situated in an old firehouse building. So hence the name. There are tables and also picnic/family style tables. We ended up sitting at the bar. Our server was awesome. My bf got an IPA and i got their coffee porter. Both were smooth and easy drinking. We decided to share one of their burgers because the meat comes from a local farm. So glad we did. It had to be one of the juiciest flavorful burger we have had in a while. I give 5 stars pretty sparingly, but this place deserves it. The decor is pretty simple but cool (a converted firehouse). We got the Korean pork tacos and pork belly sandwich with "dirty" fries to share for the table. The portions (even the tacos) were large! My favorites were the tacos and dirty fries, but all of it was good. The tacos had a good spicy kick to them without being overpowering and the fries had tons of flavor. Menu is very limited, most in our party couldn't find anything that sounded good. I've been twice and the first time service was slow but at least we were served. The second time we ended up walking out after the hostess seated us and we never saw a waitress after 15 minutes, it wasn't busy. We were also kinda turned off by the hostess who recited their COVID restrictions right when we walked in the door. We expected to hear something different than the requirements of any other restaurant but they were the same. When we asked why the third degree to wear a mask if not seated since it's the same everywhere, she said "you'd be surprised how many people need reminded." Side A was recommended by a couple of locals. From their recommendation, we decided to give a try on Friday night - and I'm glad we did. It's located next to the Eastern Oregon Fire Museum. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. Side A Brewing certainly has a local feel to it. There is a good amount of seating here. The service was quick, servers are friendly. Being a vegetarian, I wasn't expecting much. But imagine my surprise when I found that they quite a few veg options including their soup of the day! We got the lentil soup (which came with bread), veggie burger with dirty fries. Food was excellent. Also tried a couple of their beers, which were good too. We liked this place so much that we had to go back again before leaving La Grande. We ordered the burger and flatbread, tried a couple of beers. Having visited this place twice will definitely recommend it. If you are traveling, here for a day or a local, definitely give it a try. Great food, beer and service. read more

Beer: it's good. varied and very interesting and gotta show some appreciation for that variety and the quality. Food: kale in La Grande. Service: I think this depends on the customer to a certain extent, but my visits have been great. I wish there was someplace like this where I live. As it is, I'll take a road trip or adjust my schedule to spend time in a place like this. Definitely a local place that could compete in a larger market. I like this place. read more

You can tell the staff puts a lot of attention into the menu, food prep, and service. The French fries were homemade and fresh. Though not super crispy, I didn't mind because the flavor was so good. My husband loved his burger. I had the soup of the day which was a creamy chicken and really tasty. I like how you can see into the kitchen of the restaurant because you can see them doing REAL cooking and not heating up cheap frozen food they bought from a commercial food supplier like some places do. Loved this place! We were just passing through La Grande and looked online for a brew pub with a good menu. We couldn't have been happier with Side A Brewing! From the get-go their staff was courteous, professional and quick to help. We enjoyed a pint of their Session Hazy IPA and loved it enough to take a growler home with us. Their dirty fried chicken salad was spicy, fresh and delicious as was the mac-and-cheese (with added bacon). I'll remember this spot for future trips through the area! Imagine how excited we were when we found out there is a brewery halfway through our drive from Portland to Twin Falls! Finally...no more Safeway sandwiches or fast food!! Um....so....you guys. The food here is good. REALLY really good. I got the chicken sandwich the first time I came here and I have gotten it ever since. Not too breaded, tender, perfectly cooked...add in some peppery arugula and a soft potato bun and it's SO good. The kids meals are generous and equally as tasty. Kids chicken is the same chicken they use in the sandwich and the mac n cheese is delicious cheesy goodness. And the beer. According to my husband who knows his beer, this beer is legit. He's drinking an Oregon Fog Hazy that he is gushing about. The staff here are always friendly, accommodating and efficient. You can tell they are proud of this place. It shows. It's clean, comfortable (even the freezing cold women's restroom) and not too pricey. The decor is rustic and industrial with old relics from the historic firehouse that used to occupy this building. Do yourself a favor and go check out the attached firehouse museum. Lots of cool stuff in there! Thanks, Side A! We'd come here even if you were in our own neighborhood in Portland! Side A Brewing is THE hip place to eat and drink in downtown La Grande. When I visited, it was clear that La Grande has a small town vibe and that everyone could tell I was from out of town. But, the bartender was kind and gave me a few recommendations that I appreciated. Food wise, I tried the Korean pork tacos which had some good flavor. The spice alone was exciting for my taste buds. When paired with a pint of beer, I was in heaven. I could definitely imagine becoming a regular if I was a townie and I totally plan to visit here again next time I drive through this sweet town. read more

The menu has a lot of interesting items on it but I finally went with the Ahi Tuna Sandwich. Now I'm a relatively unsophisticated guy. A redneck really. But I like good food, I pay attention to food, and it's hard to "wow" me. Recently I cooked a brisket for friends and while they said it was the best brisket they ever had, I knew it was a 6 on a scale of 1-10. You get the idea. But this Ahi Tuna Sandwich... Ahhhh... Eating it was a near orgasmic experience. I literally tuned out the rest of the table and basked in the glory of the experience. I was blown away. They did it right, starting with the extra thick chunk of tuna, the perfect bread, seared perfectly, everything! Listen carefully. I AM NOT EXAGGERATING ONE BIT. It really was that perfect. I paired it with a nice wine. I have no idea what it was, I was too focused on the sandwich. You'd have to ask your server for a recommendation. Speaking of servers, ours was Lena. Her joy at serving others was apparent in her cheerful spirit and her empathetic responses. I can't tell you much about the rest of the place. The building is a retired firehouse, and the décor riffs on that. I had the classic burger with dirty fries, and my wife had the classic burger with the soup of the day, which was tomato vegetable. The burgers were really good, with great smoky flavor. The dirty fries had some kick to them, which I enjoyed. The soup had a smaller lick, but my wife scarfed it down anyway. I had the house cider, which was a nice balance between sweet and dry. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the place. After dinner, we visited the in-house fire museum, which has two beautiful early fire engines as well as the.original firehouse pole. Great ambiance, good food and drink, people enjoying themselves. We loved this place. Stopped here on a trip back from Yellowstone and had seen the signs passing from Boise to PDX a few times so we decided to give it a try. Fantastic food options. Family had the house burger, pork tacos, dirty fries, mac and cheese, some tasty chicken coconut goodness soup, and lots of great beers and Shirley Temples for the kids. Keep in mind that local regulations require no more kids after 9PM but other than that solid for family dining. The staff is very friendly and the place had a great vibe. Looks like they have live music off and on although we didn't;t have a chance to experience it, it seems like it would be a fun venue. Worth the detour off 84 to try this place for sure! read more

Quick! It's 7:30pm, we're in the middle of The Blue Mountains on I84, it's dark out and we're starving! What's there to eat at the next town? Yelp brought up several good looking options in La Grande Oregon. But Side A Brewing won out mainly for convenience - they were open late (i.e.: open until 9pm in this town.) Dinner was such a pleasant surprise! Side A Brewing is located in an old converted fire station. Hence why it was a little tricky for us to find at first - it looks like a fire station! Look for the side door with the neon flame symbol on top. It's also the door to the fire museum. Once in the door we were greeted with long beautiful wooden tables and the delicious smell of good food! The decor on the walls and behind the bar is trendy but complimentary to the building's history. Old pictures, drawings and even art made from old fire hoses woven together, dot the walls. The food was excellent, came out hot and fast and was devoured quickly. Lots of beer options on tap and lots of menu items I'd love to try. Posters on the wall for upcoming live music shows. It's easy to see why this place is popular! Good stuff! My only suggestions: add a little info to the menu on the veggie burger with the smoky house sauce. I almost didn't order it because online pics looked like it was drenched in Sriracha sauce. The smoky house dressing is so much better than that and it should be celebrated! Amazing! We were staying just outside of La Grande and were looking for a good place to grab a bite and a beer. When we arrived the place was hopping. The hostess was very kind and greeted us quickly. She took our name and gave us a heads up that the kitchen was a little behind (not an issue for us since we weren't in any hurry). She also said it would be a 15-30 min wait and then directed us to wait in the fire house. This was a fun little area to sit and wait for a table. Lots to look at and plenty of room to sit. Once we were seated we were quickly waited on. We both ordered a delicious beer from their tap. Our waiter was very prompt and attentive. We ordered their buffalo cauliflower and the house burger to share. DELICIOUS is the only word to explain the food. The burger was cooked to perfection and the cauliflower was Devine. read more
