While passing through La Grande, we stopped for dinner at Side A Brewing. Our dinner was excellent. We ordered an small plate of Korean Pork Tacos, a House Burger with a salad, the Glazed Pork Belly Sandwich with fries, and a piece of Huckleberry Cheesecake to share. Each of the items exceeded our expectations -- so good! We substituted a salad for fries with one entree and were amazed at the quality...it was beautiful! The tacos are a bit juicy & the white corn tortillas tend to crack, so be sure to get extra napkins if you order them...but they are yummy and totally worth it. The House Burger was perfectly cooked to my requested doneness, and the tomato jam they use really made it stand out. The Glazed Pork Belly Sandwich was also tasty and had a great mix of flavors. We ended our dinner with the cheesecake which was delicious and served in a very shareable size. The service was mid...while the server did stop by to ask if our food tasted good, she barely heard the response before she was halfway to the next table and didn't ask if there was anything else we needed. She missed opportunities to be proactive in terms of providing extra napkins (after all, tacos and the sandwiches were very juicy!), automatically refilling water, etc. She also served us the tacos to share without providing any plates. When you are done dining, you pay your tab at the front with the hostess. The hostess did a good job quickly processing our payment and getting through the cluster of tables who all left at the same time & needed to pay. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. If you need to wait to be seated, there is a small firehouse museum that you can look through. read more

Fantastic meal! We had the ahi tuna burger, which was likely the best we've ever had, and the grilled cheese and tomato. The chicken and rice soup was also wonderful. All of the choices we had were made with a special little touch to the recipes. Service was great and the peanut butter chocolate tart was outstanding with a crust like a soft peanut butter cookie! Tried this while we were in Le Grande last weekend. My wife and I had the Pumpkin Ale and then I did a Black Lager. Both beers were very good. We both had the Fried chicken sandwich which was good. The truffle fries were good but could have used a little more truffle on them. Also, side salad was good with spicy ranch dressing. Service was really good as well. read more

Great experience on our trip through La Grande. Stopped in around 2 on a Thursday afternoon. Seated quickly and our server arrived shortly after. He told us the specials and I knew immediately I had to have the special. It was a chick sandwich with maple candied bacon. OMG this was amazing. Fresh bread and greens, crunchy, moist chicken and smothered bacon. It was so good I was beside myself. I savored every single bite. My side was truffle fries with white truffle oil and parmesan. Again, amazing. Attentive server. Made a special trip through La Grande eat there again but sadly it did not open until 4 and we were driving through at 1:00. Well I really wanted to try their pork BLT but I was told by my server and bartender why it wasn't on the menu. I had a fried chicken sandwich, potato chips and a Kolsch beer. It was a great sandwich and liked the beer also. I got served right away and all the servers were friendly. The guy I sat next to at the bar was nice also. Unexpected foodie food from what looks like a standard bar menu! We had the pulled pork tacos and a chicken salad... now when you read that, it seems to be very boring and "basic bitch", but to our absolute delight, it was anything but that! We enjoyed our visit. I had an excellent refreshing in-house red ale. We started with the Buffalo fried cauliflower. It was spicy and perfect served with ranch and celery. My wife had the macaroni and cheese and loved it... amongst the best she's had. It had elements of spicy and sweet.... and was creamy and very flavorful. I ordered the Korean pork tacos. They had some kimchi and sriracha crema on them. The pork was, tender, broke apart easily and had a good, fresh flavor. They were great pork tacos. My only complaint is when you attach the word "Korean", I generally have an expectation that they will be spicier, and touched by at least some gochujang... the classic Korean hot & sweet seasoning paste. I wanted a little mote flavor and spiconess, than these tacos delivered. I had to add some condiment habanero sauce. We enjoyed the firehouse theme. There's even a little fire museum adjoining the dining room. All in all, I can easily recommend. read more

Amazing experience from start to finish. Grew up in eastern Oregon and visiting from Texas. A lot has changed in the 11 years since I was last here. One of the positive changes is Side A Brewing in the old fire station. My wife and I shared the Peanut Butter Bacon burger with Dirty Fries. More than enough to share. The burger was very tasty and the dirty fries with shredded Parmesan on top were delicious. I had a flight of 5 different beers (5 5 oz pours for $8 -- a real bargain) and my wife had a small beer. All of the beers were tasty and complemented our dinner. Our server was very good. She was attentive and even knew the explanation for the name Side A as it relates to fire fighting. She told us about the desserts, a lemon/huckleberry cheesecake or a chocolate/salted caramel/coconut brownie. We opted for the cheesecake. It was an amazing cheesecake with delicious flavors and was extremely light. I thought we could share it (and its size is big enough to share), but halfway through, I decided we needed the brownie as well. It was equally delicious. We learned the desserts are made locally by Merlyn's Catering. I asked for a cup of coffee with my desserts. We could smell it brewing and its aroma was tantalizing. When I first tasted the coffee, I was hooked. I learned that it is roasted locally by McKinnon Bros Coffee Roasters. A truly wonderful meal and experience. This place hits all the marks for a great brewery, though this review focuses on the food since I didn't try the beer. The food was impressive. We had the burger and chicken strips, along with truffle and dirty fries. The dirty fries stood out as the better option. The burger was a good size and very tasty. My only complaint is about the chicken strips. Listed under larger plates, they were average and less filling than the burger, which was a bit disappointing. However, the chicken strips were light, fluffy, and juicy. We'll definitely stop here again on our travels from Idaho. read more

We stopped by here for an early lunch because I was with friends who highly recommended this place. It was too early for me to really get into a beer, but I did have a grilled chicken burger and salad. It's harder to find good real good chicken at places, so most of the time I just eat vegetarian. The salad was yummy and I had some of my boyfriend's dirty fries which were tasty. I didn't really like the aioli dip but that's ok. After a long day on the road from Utah and triathlon racing the previous day we just wanted to chill and eat some food that wasn't fast food. The kitchen is open to the front which is always a good sign for nice food. Sat at the bar and ordered a flight to taste what they had (you get to choose) and some food. It was just super chilled, unpressured and relaxed. Had some Korean pork tacos, house burger and then some more Korean tacos. Ordered a couple of beers that we liked to accompany the food. Purchased some extra beer to go as we enjoyed it that much. It was a pleasure to visit and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend stopping by for some nice food and craft beer. read more

Passing through town and stopped in for a bite to eat. My husband and I shared a House Burger and Dirty Fries. When the plate came out the food was beautifully presented on the plate. First impressions are huge with me and food and I was thoroughly impressed by the food presentation. Thankfully, the food tasted just as good as it looked. The burger was amazing. It was super juicy and flavorful. The beef tasted fresh and beefy. :) It seems like a lot of beef doesn't have much flavor anymore but this burger had great meaty flavor. The burgers are so massive at this friendly brewery restaurant there as no way you can leave hungry. I opted for the House Burger ($19) that includes a really tasty tomato jam, aioli and gouda cheese (plus chips or fries). Glen went for the house-made veggie burger ($14), which he said was just as delicious as a Impossible Burger. The fries were tasty but limp. Easy going, casual atmosphere. Friendly staff. Creative beer and good food! I think their brewer is talented; if you'd like a hazy that doesn't taste like every other hazy you should check this place out. I didn't like every beer in my flight but they were all interesting and for a beer nerd that's at least as important. They also have some NA options, which is nice.
