Don't waste your time! Unless you like being treated extremely rudely and disrespectfully. The entertainment idea was fun, but there are a lot of better places to go for overpriced drinks and be treated nicely like a customer should. In our case it was the host who sat people that couldn't have been more rude had he tried. We were told we had to leave because another reservation had arrived - which would have been fine if we knew ahead that our time was limited. To make it worse, he brought the next group to our table to stand around and stare at us before we could even sign the check and finish the rest of our drink. When we tried to have a polite conversation afterwards he said he didn't have time to discuss. Reading other reviews it sounds like this is a theme. NEVER AGAIN! read more

There is a speakeasy in the back of this bar, no need to put your name in.... The only way to gain entrance is by paying off the host. We waited and our table was given away due to a patron walking in 30 min after us. The host admitted giving our table away for the 100$ the guy gave him. Don't waste your $. Stumbled upon this gem last night, was truly excited about the experience. It was later in the evening and everyone was having a blast singing along. My boyfriend put in a request to sing a popular Billy Joel song along with a generous tip and was skipped over repetitively. There was a group that came in after us that sang 4 or 5 times, the host even allowed a song to be sung twice within an hour. Very random, seemed that he was being selective with his choices and I get that he has the power to do so, but we left disappointed and will doubtfully return. read more

I went to Sid Gold's a few days ago to see what it was all about. It was tough to tell what to expect given that there didn't seem to be a drink menu or many pictures of the place. I went inside and the place has cool decor and definitely an older vibe (they were playing songs like Sweet Caroline on the stereo). I feel torn because the drink I ordered was mediocre for a high price. I ordered some cucumber and gin drink that cost $13. After coming from Standby (which has the best drinks in town at the same cost), I was disappointed in Sid Gold's. I think they have a great opportunity to be a go-to spot for me if and when they increase the quality of their cocktails. I didn't realize there was a piano in the back where people were singing karaoke. I stumbled upon it and that was a really great time. The piano player helps lead you into songs and gets you back on track when you mess up. Sometimes he'll sing along to your song. I had an amazing time and there's just something really special and unique about singing karaoke with a piano rather than a recording. The crowd was fun and interactive and the list of songs the piano player can play range from your regular karaoke songs (Total Eclipse of the Heart) to more eclectic (some Miley Cyrus song, etc.). Over all, I had a great time. I'll just have to show up ready to sing to avoid paying a lot of money for regular drinks. read more

The overall atmosphere gets 5 stars. The crowd is great and loves to cheer / encourage the singers. Everyone sings along at the top of their lungs, so the karaoke singer doesn't feel like they're up there by themselves, more like leading the group. The piano player is great as well. A very fun crowd! Had to take off two, because this place could make some big improvements. I made a reservation, which is NOT easy to find on their website (I had to call, then someone told me over the phone how to navigate the website). Then I got an e-mail from some random personal account asking me if I wanted to confirm my reservation. Turns out, the reservation doesn't necessarily get you a table-- just gets you in the door. My reservation was for 14, and they gave us seating for 6; the rest had to stand. Also, if you have a reservation, you'll be asked to leave after 3 hours. Seems silly to me to kick out paying customers who are enjoying their time at your place. The place got so crowded that it was hard to move around. A friend in my group is a firefighter and said that there were some serious fire code violations due to how tightly they had people packed in there. I ended up just getting up and getting my drinks from the bar in the other room, because one waitress serving 120+ people doesn't cut it. read more

Have gone here before, every time has always been such a fun experience and a great night. However last night my views have changed. Yesterday was my friends birthday. Sids was the place. We arrived at 1 am when the Karaoke was coming to an end, we were deciding where to go then or stay for a drink. We had a group of 8. A few ordered drinks and others were still deciding. I really can't believe how rude the bartender was. It takes a lot for me to write a bad review or even complain because I am a bartender myself, I understand the issues in the service industry these past 2 years, I get it. But this was unjustifiable. The bartender proceeded to literally say word for word "it is not my job to hold your hand and help you decide what drink you want. When you are ready to order then talk to me." We were clearly a huge burden the second we walked in. He spoke to us like we were incompetent. No we were not rowdy or causing any scene. And no, the bar wasn't busy either ‍ When he said that, my friend and I were astonished and walked out the door immediately before anything else happened because I was fuming. While the rest of the group were still finishing their drinks at the bar, the same bartender made it a huge deal that 2 people were only drinking water. He said in order to be able to sit at the bar you have to order something to drink. Understandable, but my friend was sitting at the bar drinking water while her boyfriend who ordered a drink STOOD behind her. 4 out of the 6 people ordered drinks. We were not taking up his rail or bar seats. The other 2 were DESIGNATED DRIVERS therefore could not drink anymore. For him to not take that into consideration was irresponsible as well. As everyone clearly was turned off by this bartenders harsh and cocky attitude, they decided just to chug the drinks and get the heck out. As they were finishing the drinks the bartender proceeded to ask them "is this your guy's first time in a bar?". Wow. Who did he think he was? My friend's husband QUICKLY got him together and was put in his place. His reply was "it's my first day." I call BS. He was too sure of himself for it to be his first day. Not sure who this dude was, but the service industry ISNT for everyone, no matter how good of a drink you can make. Friendliness and service skills go JUST as far. I have never been treated this way by a waitstaff. Sids was one of our favorite places but I guess one bad experience like this can change that quickly. Huge turn off. This has nothing to do with the music, the piano player has always been top tier. I have noticed a lot of cocky bartender attitudes these past few weekends around the Detroit cocktail and bar scene. I'm over it. It takes a lot for me to complain but what's up with the snarky and cocky people behind the bars lately? read more

Me and my family decided to come visit for my mom's birthday on 1/18. She decided on this establishment due to the karaoke. Our experience was nothing short of extreme rudeness. The hostess (blonde hair with large tattoo on upper right arm) provided one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever received. She spoke to my mother in a very condescending way when we were simply trying to ask if we could keep our original reservation because the table wasn't big enough for our party. She walked away in the middle of the conversation and never came back. The waitress proceeded to tell us she was quitting in two weeks because she couldn't stand working for the establishment. We couldn't make this stuff up if we wanted. Because she was quitting I guess it was fitting that she didn't need to provide quality service. She disappeared for long stretches. She was the only waitress which was another issue. They have exactly ONE waitress to serve easily 60 people. The room for karaoke is very small for the amount of people they allow in. The mics were barely audible because it was too loud to hear those performing. They even gave our song away to another group to perform. The drinks are extremely overpriced. They charge $14 for moscow mules!! I would not recommend going here until they do some serious overhaul. It is very apparent they do not want certain people in their establishment and go above and beyond to make sure those people do not come back. read more

Had a very frustrating experience with Sid Gold's, specifically with Armani at the host stand. Not only can Armani not coordinate his outfit (who the hell wears salmon pants, two different (clashing, I might add) patterns, and shoes that are in their own color palette, nowhere close to matching the rest of the outfit? Oh, honey...But I digress), he cannot coordinate a reservation booked 10 days in advance! Our party arrived 15 minutes EARLY for our reservation, and were told that our table had been given away already. He claimed to have been texting and calling "all day" but we never received anything. If it was that desperate, why didn't you email as well? He tried to play it off as it this was customary practice for Sid Gold's. If so, I just find that really odd. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for over a decade, I cannot IMAGINE giving away a reservation before their allotted time, just because I didn't get a text back. I would understand if we were late or didn't show up at our scheduled time, or even if there had been some kind of disclaimer stating that this was their policy. But this was not the case. My friend had been looking forward to this night for weeks, celebrating her birthday with friends that flew in from out of state. And then to be treated so poorly, and talked down to by greasy little Armani, left a bad taste in our mouths for the rest of the night. We definitely won't be back. read more

I went here with my friend to have some fun singing karaoke. We were told as soon as we entered that we couldn't stay past 10 p.m. because they had other guests that would be arriving and there wouldn't be room for us. The piano player was great and we sang one song. Our server kept moving us further into the corner to accommodate younger patrons coming in. They seem to be selective about who they want in there. You better be young, attractive and have a great voice or they will tell you to leave. read more

This place is a blast! Refreshing, intimate, upbeat ... it's a feel good time. Different from anything else in the city. Sids took us back to a time when live performance, music, talent, intimacy and community were important. Not a single cell phone was to be seen. That's how engaging it was. And was it ever special! Our piano karaoke host Paul Leschens from NY was brilliant. I can't say enough about his talent -- he's born to do this. What a treat ... he was professional, fun, accessible and spot ON musically ... carefully crafting and conducting a great time for all. It felt like he was there to work with each singer to make them into a star. Mission accomplished. The only issue I had was that the bar staff were not friendly or helpful. I wonder if they are from NYC? I say this only because you always hear how New Yorkers move fast and skip the pleasantries, which is the opposite of the Midwest's rep. In NYC, it's a practicality issue ... there's just so many people! Here in Detroit, that isn't the case, and we appreciate attentive and warm service. It seemed like they were unnecessarily rushed and cold. Very efficient but not personal. Which was in stark contrast to the warm and welcoming experience on the other side of the curtain. The drinks were OK but pricey ($15 ea.) Making eye contact with any of the 5 or so people behind the bar was near impossible. Waiting 15 minutes each time just to have someone say "I see you" or "I'll be right with you" with that many staff available and so few patrons is not acceptable. Don't get me wrong ... they were hustling! Moving like a machine. They were working hard. They just weren't welcoming or helping the patrons present in front of them. This happened several times so it wasn't just 1 person or 1 particular instance. It was odd because the impersonal bar service didn't jive at all with the rest of the place. For the amount of money you're paying, I would expect somewhat attentive service. That did not happen. Aside from the bar, everything was excellent. Thank you Sids Detroit for giving us a different way to connect in our city. Come here with an open mind and expectations to have fun! read more

One star for the guy on the piano, one for the sweet manager. Our waitress (unsure of name, blonde dressed in cheetah) was very rude. Asked her for a straw and she rolled her eyes, dismissed it then handed me the credit card on file to pay. When I asked her again she told me I need to go to the bar and get my own straw....... never heard of that. Awful, awful customer service. Seemed liked she was drugged out. Avoid her at all costs. Other than that, fun atmosphere and would come again. Hopefully it was just a bad day for her. read more

LOVE!!!!! Went here for own of our last stops at a bachelorette party. We had a reservation and it was perfect. It was a fun little place that was intimate with a karaoke player! The piano player was so fun and even took a suggestions not on the list. Would recommend to anyone. read more

Drinks were really good and it was fun watching the bartender whip them off! We got a table in the back. The crowd in the back was a great time! Will definitely be back.
