Always a vibe when i come here. Tonight Dj Kid McFly & Dj Goodboi held it down. It was fun. The bartenders kept the drinks coming. I liked that "dancing queen" drink. Though i think "almost midnight" is my favorite one after the old fashioned. Nice mixed crowd of ppl. Lots of dancers.

1. This place is electric when it's rocking. The lights, the uniqueness, everything about it is really cool, but it's a late night vibe. Be ready for that. If you go early, not much will be happening.

I have tried coming back to this place multiple times with friends and have had the worst experiences. Firstly - the drinks are way expensive and overfilled with ice. For $20+ you basically get a shot of alcohol. The atmosphere and actual layout of those place is super cool- they have glow in the dark walls and dancefloor, multiple different rooms for parties and arcade games. The bathrooms are great for photos, however not the cleanest. RED FLAG ALERT INCOMING several times and several friends including myself personally have been drugged here. I am very cautious with my drink always being near me and in my sight and watching the bartenders make the drinks. Not taking drinks from strangers etc. You know the drill ladies! Every time I have come here and had 2-3 drinks max, I DO NOT REMEMBER THE NIGHT. Beware, the bartenders are known to work with date rape men/women. I would not recommend any of my friends or family to this location!!

The bar floor, blue light and light up the whole room. Good photo op!

What an amazing time!! Experience this Detroit bar for the first time and was wonderful. Safe and a great time. The one bartender. Short brunette hair was extremely rude, other than that experience it was a great bar. Go lions!!!

Extremely cool atmosphere, especially if you're looking for a club like scene. Black lights looked sooo cool with all of the mosaic art. You can get standard drinks with fast service. There usually is a cover charge, but otherwise, a good place to visit for downtown detriot nightlife.

This club in Detroit is definitely super cool for the aesthetic! The black light, in one corner of this club truly makes it stand out among all the other venues in the city. I always have a good time when I go, but I can't warrant that to much that more than a great group of people. The DJs are always a hit or miss but when there are big techno events in the city, they do get some really cool DJs. Drinks are pricey and nothing super special. There usually is a line to enter that wraps around the corner, and the bouncers do their best, but it does take a while to make it inside. If you want a really vibey time and definitely a different kind of experience, make it out to Deluxx Flux.

So here's the deal, I've only ever been here on a weeknight. Meaning, there wasn't really any programming. And without live music or some sort of dance party it does feel pretty quiet. But the space is so cool, the blacklight artwork and the tricked out video games and pinball machines add to a really artsy, rad vibe. And the cocktails are great. But without that extra oomph their performances and such provide it doesn't get super crowded so the space feels a little empty. So, if you're looking for a high energy spot, check their schedule beforehand and make sure there's something going on. If you're looking for something more low key but visually interesting, come on Tuesday night and enjoy the chill. But know you may be one of only a few people there.

very fun, cool vibe. fun for a girls night out or a group of friends! Didn't get any drinks, but the security by the bathroom was so nice, felt safe!

Bummer. No drinks for us unless we paid for the concert playing tonight. We came for some drinks and some snacks and to checkout this cool neon rich bar or club. Wasn't going to work out for us. There was a concert playing, couldn't tell you the name of the band. The bouncer informed us it was $12/pp for this Indie R&B band. Wasn't feeling like paying $24 just to get into the place for a drink. Oh well. Thus ending our evening abruptly in the D at least.

This place gets 5 stars for the uniqueness. They have games such as pinball machines, air hockey and more. We played pinball and it took me back to my younger days. They also had a section made up of a bunch of neon colors which I loved. DJ was playing good tunes and just overall a had a cool vibe.

Whenever there's a new spot downtown I always have to check it out. They hype around this place was big! We waited in a line outside for 45 minutes in the cold (while the bouncer was letting his friends cut the line the second they showed up) once we got inside it was truthfully, underwhelming. There's a $20 cover charge at the door (cash only) Bartenders seemed skilled and offered a good selection of beer. The live band that played had equipment with poor sound quality. It sounded muffled and low. A cool selection of arcade games to chose from and plenty of opportunities to take a cool photo with all of the neon backdrops.

One of my favorite spots in downtown Detroit. Cool hip underground club that is much larger than you think it would be for a basement club. The bar has always had fast service. I've been here a few times and there has been different music each time I was there. One night was rap, another was trance/techno so you may want to see what they are playing if you are picky about your music. Cover charge is usually around $5.00 and well worth it. The neon room is very cool! A must see if in the downtown Detroit area.

I love this part of Detroit - hidden in an alley, bright neon lights inside, and a diverse crowd with a variety of music. The only downfall, I'd you want to consider it one, is that the art inside is so cool that you'll see all the women and men taking selfies or hot pictures for social media. I went on a Friday night and the cover charge for men and women is $5. That's probably the cheapest price to pay for a club/bar in Detroit. Oh, and there's an arcade inside the bar, giving this more of dive bar feel. The drinks are all tasty and reasonably priced for the amount of liquor you receive. This is definitely a must go-to bar when visiting Detroit .

Such a bummer because they do make good cocktails occasionally. We were one and done this evening due to the bad drinks and loads of people who brought their kids to this bar. The decor is great. The cocktails are creative, beautifully presented, and perfectly balanced. You can tell there's serious thought behind every ingredient. Whether you're into something bold and spirit-forward or smooth and refreshing, they nail it. The food matches the energy of the bar. Every dish feels curated, flavorful, and plated with care. Downtown Detroit definitely feels different now, and the crowd has shifted a bit, but none of that took away from what The Standby is. That alleyway magic is still there. Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.
