The drinks were good, but there was a Bachelorette party that hogged the mics the whole time so we were only able to get two or three songs in, then we were asked to leave because our reserved time block was up. They also reminded us that there was a $15 minimum spend (basically 1 drink per person) which confused us because we had some people in our group that ordered 2 drinks to cover for those that didn't want to purchase alcohol. The pianist was fun and knew a whole range of songs, from classics to new pop, so that was cool! You submit your request virtually, so you can see how far down the line you are. Overall, this place is a fun time. The bouncer does seem to have a stick up his you-know-where, and made us wait even though we had a reservation. Maybe they were cleaning the table? I don't know -- they could've definitely shared some info. on why we were waiting, but didn't. Inside, it's a fun party vibe. The piano guy does a great job at keeping the mood high and at making everyone sound like a better singer than they are. They could definitely have a better system for lyrics than the awkward scrolling on an iPad during a song, though. Service was a bit on a slow side and the wine list was honestly really bad -- a bunch of grocery store wines marked up at 300%+ over retail. They also kept reminding us about the 2-hour limit, which was tacky and annoying... "yes, we know we only have 45 minutes left" ... "yep, got it, 30 minutes"... "omg yes we know we have to leave soon!" If I was rating just the karaoke part, I'd give it 4 stars, but the rest of the staff made it a less satisfying experience. read more

We had reservations at 845 arrived at 830. They started at 915. The hostess, Donny, asked my aunt and uncle to leave because their "reservation had expired" at 10:30. We were altogether and one person had just been served a drink and everyone in our group hadn't done karaoke. I watched and Donny asked no one else to leave. She said the website said the reservations were for 2 hours and we had a party of 6. It was very embarrassing. The place wasn't even full. I loved the pianist. Our server was super rude and made the experience much worse for my girlfriend's birthday this last Friday. Stefan the Pianist was very charming and fun, but whoever the woman who served us was made it challenging to enjoy these things. When I asked about some confusion with tabs, she was super rude about it and tried to imply that people were sneaking over to our table and that we had too many people, despite the reservation being under my name and card. When I asked if I could pay at the bar, she told me that would be "defeat the purpose of a server" when I was just trying to figure out how I could pay for my girlfriend's drink. She was very rude again and condescending when my girlfriend asked for a water cup, and then never ended up bringing any cups. She then promptly rushed us out with little warning and cut our night short despite us continuing to tip and pay. I know this might sound like a "drunk people behavior complaint" but several people in our party had no alcohol and were still disrespected. We made a reservation even though it was a Wednesday night, and the room is pretty small so I would recommend making one. Unfortunately, ahead of our visit we received some off-putting texts detailing all the rules (like 2 hr limit) so I admittedly went into it with low expectations, however we didn't end up having any problems. Perhaps they are more strict on the weekends or we just had a good hostess - either way, I'll definitely be back for more good times! Next thing you know, our group is being ushered into the back karaoke room where apparently EVERYONE had the talented voice of a Broadway performer. A great way to spend the some quality time with friends and reconnect with your vocal chords. I really love the layout of this piano karaoke bar. It's broken into two sections. The first one is a small lounge with a large u-shaped bar to sit at. The other section is the dark karaoke bar. They are both sectioned off so you can't hear what's happening in the adjacent rooms. You have to make a reservation before you can enter the karaoke section of the bar. Which I like, this keeps it from getting over crowded and so loud you can't hear the person singing. No reservation, no singy. During our visit, John was our piano player and he was awesome! Great voice, amazing on the piano and if you got lost or forgot the words, my man would step in and start singing to get you back on track. They had a special holiday cocktail list while I was where, but I stayed with my old stand by, vodka soda. Not a huge fan sugary drinks. I could see hanging out here once in a while, but I don't think this would be my weekly hang spot. But if you've never been here, you should experience it at least once. read more

The energy is there. It's exciting not quite as decadent as 1920 but it's a fun time. The city was happening and snow was falling. Walking into Sid's was a throw back experience. This was everything I wanted it to be. Really. It's a beautiful speakeasy that's accessed through an alley adjacent to the Siren. The atmosphere is glamorous, vintage, and welcoming, and the drinks are well made. I was encouraged to head back to the karaoke bar and I will say it was so much fun. It's a darkened room with a lot of seating, and everyone acts like they've known each other for years. The layout is very well done. From the main bar, you don't hear the sounds from the karaoke bar, which is great as there is no noise pollution from one bar to the other. I set up a group reservation here for a night of piano karaoke for my team during a mini conference in Detroit. The downtown location was ideally located a stone's throw from our hotel and the downtown action. Note that the entrance is in an alley behind the Siren Hotel and not super easy to spot from the street. The reservation was made through their NY location (phone lines are connected) which resulted in some confusion upon our arrival at 8:30 pm. I was told on the phone during the booking that we could grab a drink in the bar before our 9pm reservation which seemed to throw off the local staff working the bar. Once there, they told us that the bar doesn't start serving until 9pm. Once inside the cozy back room where the piano and karaoke funsies reside, the fun really kicked off. Between the cool laid back pianist running the show and my team's incredible singing talents, this ended up being a super fun evening. Guests can request songs listed in their paper booklet for singing and order drinks table-side by the waitress working the room. The server/bartender kept coming around and making sure drinks were plentiful for everyone. This was such a crazy awesome experience. Sid Gold's Request Room had the outward appearance of a small dive in an alley. When you enter, you'll see that the space is sophisticated without being pretentious. You can tell it's a trendy spot. We had a drink in the bar area before entering the performance space. Our crew had reservations for a table in the performance area. Essentially, Sid Gold's Request Room is karaoke with a live pianist. There was an impressive amount of songs that he/you can perform from the list. The pianist was great and it was an absolute blast to sing a song with him on the keys. It was easy to make eye contact for cues. This was by far the coolest "karaoke" night I have ever experience. I can't believe there aren't more reviews on this page yet. I thought this place was awesome - something totally new and interesting to do. It has a speakeasy vibe in the alley near The Siren Hotel. It looks like a normal bar in the front but past the black curtains is a karaoke lounge! It looks like you can reserve tables, but we just sat down. It got crowded in there by around 11 (not in a bad way because everyone has table)! There's a live piano player and people sing the words from an iPad on stage. There's more of a "show" quality to the experience vs just regular karaoke. The piano player was accepting songs off of the song list too which was cool. I am a huge fan of quaint little spots for drinks and singing the night away, but this place confuses me. This is the second time we've visited and it just doesn't give me the WOW factor. Walking in the door, is the main bar area and then there is a curtain separating the small piano/karaoke room. The room has booths with tables, very limited seating. We were here for a special night out, it was a Wednesday so it wasn't too busy, and we had tickets for a show hosted in the piano room. The staff overall were fine, I would suggest more staff to take drink orders for special events. People had to wait for service and we had to track someone down to take our order. After the show, we wanted to stay for some karaoke, but the crowd was just too loud and you couldn't hear people singing, so we left to check out some other spots in the city. This was so much fun! From the outside, it's got a bit of a "hidden gem" feeling, as you enter under a neon sign in an alley. Inside, it's full on speakeasy. Super small, fashionable. The karaoke list is 'curated.' Think one or two songs each from popular artists (Billy Joel, Madonna, etc) that would translate to piano. They have the classics (Fugees) and some modern songs. The clientele was pretty white collar, many of whom looked like they'd come from work. If you're looking for an excuse to dress up, you could def do this here, though fashion ran the gamut. Talent level was way higher than your average karaoke bar-- maybe a musical theater hangout? I don't know. It was nuts. In that way, it's a bit intimidating. Drinks were tasty, but a bit expensive ($14), which I guess makes sense if groups camp out for hours. Stopped in on a whim and was able to be seated in the piano bar room and had the best time ever. Already begging my friends to go back!

Nice enough place and the piano player is very good. However it gets three stars for two reasons: 1. Confusing request forms. Seems silly but when enough people get it wrong that the piano player needs to make an announcement about it you know it's bad. And forms because they have two of them: one if you want him to sing and the other if you want to sing. This isn't obvious as the place is very dimly lit and you need the flashlight on your phone to read anything you're given. 2. After cashing out we were still sitting in our seats and visiting when a staff member walked up to us and told us we had three minutes left at the table. Table reservations are recommended as it's a small place and that's what we did but I've never heard of any place kicking a party out and opening the table up once the party cashes out. For all they know we could have ordered more drinks. So a pro tip if you go here: don't cash out until you're ready to leave. Otherwise they'll give you're table away and kick you out. read more

Although, I really enjoy Sid Gold's I have a hard time recommending or even wanting to go to this place due to the rude host and poor management I experienced. Having a reservation for 10 people I went to the host and checked in, the host then made a pass at me and when I told him I wasn't interested he had us wait 30 minutes past our reservation to then sit us at a table for 4 people we asked him why we didn't have a table for 10 people since that was the number in our reservation and he stated "because I don't know how many drinks are going to order I can't give you a bigger table" we said even though they have a drink minimum that should not factor into the fact that we had a 10 person reservation and were sat at a 4 person table. He said I'll get back to us in 10 minutes and then disappeared for a good hour. In addition he would not let our friend back in the room after going to the bathroom unless he purchased a drink from the outside bar claiming he "needed to ensure that we hit our two drink minimum per person". Lastly, when my friend went to go talk to him because he still had not given us a big enough table for our reservation and he told her he couldn't talk to her because he was in the process of booking a flight to Florida and she would have to come back. The service that he provided was absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. If a establishment is going to require a reservation and a drink minimum, they should be able to fulfill the reservation and expect that your patrons are going to follow the minimum which we did. I would not go back to this bar after my experience. read more
