Penne alla diavolo

The pasta is aways good here, tastes fresh. There hasn't been anything I have not liked here and their portions are really big, I usually need to wrap it up and take it home. My favourite appetizers are the mussels or the calamari. For entrees I prefer a white or cream sauce. If you go to the south Edmonton location, the decor is more old school Italian style. If you're looking for a more upscale style then downtown Edmonton is more suited for that. The restaurant gets quite busy on the weekends and evenings, it's best to make a reservation if you're planning to go during peak hours.

Food was very good, went at lunch time and it was very dead. Service took a while. Got sat at our table and took 10 minutes for our waitress to come. Then gave us menus and took 10 minutes for our pop to come and take our orders when there were only 3 tables in there. So if you are on lunch break may not have time to come in as it took 20 minutes just to order. But food was great

Located in a small strip mall in South Edmonton. This restaurant has the history of being an Edmonton local business. The restaurant inside has an Italian theme decor. The service was prompt and polite. We ordered the Mediterranean salad to start. The salad was fresh and delicious. They brought complimentary bread. We had balsamic vinegar and olive oil added. I ordered the fusilli con spinaci the dish was bland. It lacked really seasoning and it felt I could have made it at home. Overall, decent place, decent service, mediocre food and great service.

Tuscan Kiss (11.00)

Like most cities, Edmonton has no shortage when it comes to Italian restaurants serving pasta. We have a wide range of options from high-end establishments to chains like Olive Garden or The Old Spaghetti Factory. There are also plenty of places in between. One such restaurant is Sicilian Pasta Kitchen, voted Best Italian Restaurant 2021 in the Edmonton Journal. They've got two locations which I believe both opened in 1995, however I don't think that the restaurants are affiliated with each other anymore. Their menus are different and they each seem to offer a bit of a different experience. (Do either of them actually focus on the cuisine of Sicily, one of the southernmost parts of Italy? I highly doubt it.) I decided to visit the south Skyrattler location of SPK because (for some reason) that one feels like the original to me. You'll find them tucked in a shopping plaza with their impressive green, white and red awnings celebrating their Italian patriotism. It's a huge brick building and surprising no one you'll find a large dining area on the inside. The expansive space is clean and modern with big, bright windows and a high ceiling. It's not too flashy but feels comfortable. There are some tasteful pieces of art around the room and I liked that the kitchen has a bit of an open concept to it. There's lots of seating, however on the Saturday night of my visit the place was busy!! I (foolishly) did not make a reservation and there was a momentary concern that we wouldn't be able to grab a table. Thankfully (whom I believe might have been) the owner moved some things around and found us a place to sit. It was very kind of him and greatly appreciated! Once settled in, our attentive server got some drinks going for us and I happily selected the Tuscan Kiss (New Amsterdam vodka, prosecco and strawberry puree - $11.00), one of their signature cocktails. I liked this drink a lot because it was light, bubbly, and fruity. Crisp and easy to drink, I especially loved the sweetness that the strawberry added to the beverage. This would be a great brunch drink, actually. Our server asked if we wanted some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and of course we said yes! Who says "no" to free bread?! This bread was also unlimited because once ours was finished we were asked if we wanted more. I remarked that it had been a long time since I've seen bread served with oil and vinegar in a restaurant and frankly, I've missed it! Two different kinds of bread were offered; one a focaccia style and the other more like a baguette. Both were soft and fresh. I loved ripping pieces off and soaking them in the oil and vinegar mixture. This is definitely a simple pleasure. Next I considered ordering a starter of some type and settled on one of my favourite salads of all-time. I am always quite pleased with an Insalata Caprese (Alternating layers of yellow and red tomatoes, fior di latte and fresh basil, topped with extra virgin olive oil and a black olive tapanade - $14.50). Right away I could see that there was no "alternating yellow and red tomatoes," as they were only red. This caprese was under-seasoned. It desperately needed a sprinkling of some nice coarse sea salt and possibly a drizzle of balsamic. The tomato was nothing special, although at least it was fresh. It seemed like a boring grocery store beefsteak when it absolutely should have been a good quality roma. Or maybe a beautiful heirloom. The slices of fior di latte were small, almost like they cut up a tub of those "cocktail style" bocconcini that you see at the store. Overall, I found this salad to be lacking in flavour, quality and value. The menu is very large at Sicilian Pasta Kitchen, boasting an extensive list of pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, and various main course dishes. After combing though the options (and feeling pretty dazzled by the ravioli di funghi con tartufo which uses a white wine truffle butter sauce) I landed on what I deemed to be the best pasta dish on the menu. The Ravioli d'Astice con Langoustines (Large lobster stuffed ravioli tossed with langoustines ("baby lobster"), in a roasted red pepper cream sauce with fresh basil - $28.00) which is also the most expensive pasta dish that they serve. The plate looked gorgeously appetizing when it arrived and it ticked a huge box by offering me a wonderful-sounding lobster experience. Certainly the highlight of the meal for me, I enjoyed the plump, lobster-filled ravioli. Unfortunately, these did not taste like they were housemade but they were enjoyable nonetheless. I loved the creamy roasted red pepper sauce which was a perfect match for the dish. I was also pleased with the meaty pieces of langoustine within the sauce because they were quite plentiful. If you've seen a langoustine before, they truly do look like very small lobsters. I appreciated that they were used abundantly and I liked their unique texture and flavour. A very filling portion, this dish was easily the highlight for me. For dess

As the Covid-19 pandemic is still going on, we decided to order through Skip the Dishes for tonight's dinner. Since we wanted to support a local business during this time, we ended up choosing this restaurant AND this location. (The one downtown does have a different menu.) Our 4 pastas took about 45 minutes to arrive after placing our order, which was on time. We were aiming for 6 p.m. and was getting hungry! I excitedly opened the bag to find a box on top feeling very light. Wow! What I found was two kinds of bread that would only be enough for two people but not only that, the three slices were very thin and the other three bite-sized pieces were hard and dry. These pieces looked like maybe it was an old bread stick cut into three. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! So out of four hungry people, who gets a slice and who doesn't?!! I know we didn't pay for the bread but it must usually come with the entree so why bother then? If we were dining in, is that all this restaurant would give us? I'm giving this review two stars as the pastas were hot, good portion and tasted good, not too salty as some restaurant food usually is. Everyone felt there was enough meat, seafood and vegetables in their pasta. Based on this experience, I would hesitate to support them again since there are many other local businesses out there.

Soup & salad

Went there for lunch on a Friday. I had the soup and salad. The soup of the day was black bean vegetable. It had a hint of spiciness and delicious. My son had their half and half special- veal tortellini and penne pasta, also delicious.

My craving for pasta led me to order from Sicilian Pasta Kitchen twice while keeping in mind to support local business during pandemic. You can order either from Skip the dishes or can choose Curbside pickup. You will get 10% off, if you prefer the curbside pickup. First time we ordered FETTUCCIA cooked with chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and Asiago cheese in a smoked paprika cream Sauce. Pasta is served with Garlic bread on side. Believe me, this pasta is definitely a delightful meal to have from their menu. Second time, we ordered both Fettuccia (my favourite) and another chicken pasta FETTUCCINE ALLA CONTADINA tossed with in house smoked chicken, fresh baby spinach and mushrooms in a rich parmesan cream sauce and unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. It was completely bland and there was no smoky flavour in the chicken at all. Packaging was good and the food was handed off perfectly both the times. I would sum up my experience as 3.5/5 based on both the orders.

Capellini Aglio con Gamberi

It has been years since my husband and I have eaten here so we decided to stop in for our date tonight. I ordered the Ravioli D'astice con Langoustines which was so very very delicious. The sauce was so flavourful, as were the little bits of lagoustines mixed in. The Ravioli itself was also super tasty, with lots of delicious lobster filling. My husband ordered the Capellini Aglio con Gamberi which was also very delicious. I think the shrimp needed a touch more of the seasoning on it but the dish as a whole was very good. Portions are quite generous so we were both quite satisfied by the end of the meal. I also ordered the red velvet cake for dessert and it was ok but I've had better. I found the cake to be a bit dry, and too sweet. Needs a bit more of the cream cheese for the tartness I think. Service was great, we arrived quite early so didn't have to wait to be seated and we were served quickly, drinks refilled quickly, and our food came out fast and was nice and hot. Overall we had a great dinner and would love to be back again, hopefully sooner than since our last visit!

Farfalle Con Gamberi E Capesante

Sicilian Pasta Kitchen South and Vinny's Bar has combined spaces and Vinny's now acts as a "lounge" area to the adjacent dining room. Friday night, no reservation and instead of waiting for a space in the dining room we agreed to be in the lounge area. Space has been renovated but not with the same consistency as the dining room. Vinny's is more of a pub/bar feel with TV's and big round booths with less of a evening light but more of a bar light. Menu's were given to us as we came from the dining room but once seated our server asked if we wanted to see the bar menu for more food options. (?) (said no) Glancing over the menu, with how large the menu seems to be, there isn't much variation when it comes to pasta. Bouncing from either cream sauce or tomato sauce. Farfalle Con Gamberi E Capesante - ($21) - - Described to be a seafood pasta dish, cajun seasoning dusted on shrimp and scallops sauteed with julienne peppers, mushroom and onions in a garlic cream sauce tossed with bow tie noodles. What arrived was 3 pieces of shrimp, baby scallops hidden under a river of cream sauce on the bottom of bow tie noodles. Heavy is what comes to mind. Average taste, something I'd expect at Boston Pizza, except I would have opted for the spaghetti and meatballs at BP's instead. Pollo Toscano - ($28) - - Two chicken breasts pan seared with shrimp, cherry tomatoes and shiitake mushrooms with a lemon white wine butter sauce. Side of Linguine with tomato sauce. Bae was okay with this one, tasted good - portion size seems to be consistent with all dishes though - huge. *Could have made this at home *nothing special

This is one of my favourite Italian restaurants of all time due to their delectable sauce in their mussels. Their Caesar salad makes my homemade salad taste like dirt in comparison. They use the finest ingredients for their perfect garlicky salad dressing and crumbled bread crumbs. Their ravioli makes you want bite after bite. My only wish is if their ravioli pasta had larger portions. My husband ordered a sandwich not pictured here. Perfect place to order from for a lazy delicious meal at home. They also give you bread included with your order and melt in your mouth whipped butter. I'll definitely be ordering again and again!!

Pizza and wine to go!

This restaurant never disappoints. Love coming here in summer for the patio and continue to support this spot during Covid because they always have delicious food! I love the pizza, pasta, and everything in between! They have a fantastic wine menu as well! Highly recommend checking them out, they are super clean and following all the health protocols. Open for dine in, curb side pick up, and delivery.

I started the meal with the Don Vito cocktail, a spirit forward sweet concoction of Cognac, Bourbon and Limoncello. Immediately felt like it set the perfect tone for dinner. The tasting menu started with four appetizers, the Arancini, Goat Ricotta Crostini, Insalata Siciliana and the Culatello. My favorite was the arancini as it was packed full of melty cheese with so much flavor. The culatello was a crowd favorite and the crostini was a great palate cleanser. For secondi we had the Truffle Gnudi and Paccheri. For people who like meaty flavors go with the paccheri, but I liked the light cheese and truffle of the gnudi. By the time the Pollo Al Mattone came around, I could only manage a mouthful of the succulent brick chicken and the fresh cabbage salad as I was so full and would need to be rolled out of the restaurant. We ended with the Chocolate Budino, which was dark, creamy and delicious. A great tasting menu at a great price, especially compared to Toronto prices!

Place has "very fancy" feel and would be good for special events/celebration dinners. Free bread to start was fine but not the best I have had. I prefer mine with butter but the oil/vinegar is probably more typical. We tried the: Calamari: 10/10, great texture, loved that we got 2 sauces to dip in. Fettuccine Tavolino (cheese wheel pasta): 10/10. Boyfriend was not too full after. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Nice cheesy creamy flavor. Ravioli Alla Zucca: 9/10, I can't remember if there were 6 or 7 ravioli in the dish. Very pleasing presentation. In my opinion too many sundried tomatoes. I love that it comes with sundried tomatoes as that added some great tang/flavor. Ravioli themselves were perfectly cooked. Brown butter sauce was excellent and wanted more. Creme Brule: 9/10, exactly as expected, definitely enough to share between 2 people. Affogato: vanilla gelato was 11/10 good to me but boyfriend didn't like the flavor. We both agree the espresso was excellent. Very small portion (too small to share!). Free cookies at the end were fine. Overall food was excellent and I'll be back but to try something different on the menu.

The complimentary bread was great, the martini's good although one glass had far more than the other. I ordered the spaghetti bolognese, and although quite different from what we make at home, was excellent! K had the Alfredo flambé which was fired up tableside. It seems to be a popular option as it happened 6 or 7 times while we dined. They also don't soak you for the privilege of the tableside presentation. It was a little cheesy for K, but excellent nonetheless. Our server Eugenia from Hamburg was excellent, she can serve us anytime. She was attentive, and her timing was exceptional! Was told this only after we ordered and friend asked for the flavors of gelato. Cake had a few uncooked flour lumps. Flavor was fine but not as flavorful/spice-heavy as I hoped.
