Honestly I inspected a few other places that are closer to me but I heard mixed things from people. I also asked our vets office. They told me that from one of the most popular pet places they get 3-4 dogs come in min a week for bites from other dogs. I understand dogs fight they are animals. The difference is this place does a aggression evaluation. Most dogs will bark while they are on the other side of a leash or cage. Running free they are fine. Before I left my Malinois Kai here I inspected the whole place. It was very clean and they had a great staff. The price was kinda high but they did offer a discount for multiple nights which helped. They also gave him a free bath which was nice I would highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a great place they can trust. My Malinois is a very high energy dog who has professional training and is very smart. The staff plays with him and that's awesome. He is a very demanding dog which can be difficult at times do to his high pray drive. I was sent photos via text while I was in Italy which made my wife and I very . We dropped our 1 year old hound mix off with Shelly when we were moving into a new house. Those two…read moreweeks with Shelly took our dog's basic skills and made her a more dependable and responsive dog. The environment, instruction and style of training Shelly provides is exactly what our dog needed and responded great to. We asked Shelly to focus on recall (our hound mix very scent/prey driven) and after picking up our pup we are able to take her hiking, or off leash, without fear-even if there's a squirrel or lizard. Fast forward a year later we used Shelmar again for an extended stay for our dog since we would be out of town for two weeks. Our dog came home exhausted, happy and better mannered with the skills Shelly initially instilled in her. She slept on the couch for almost two days after bringing her home. Shelmar kennels provides a great environment for an outdoorsy and active dog. We have used many different dog boarding places and each respond differently to our pup. She's a high energy handful and a big strong dog. This can be an issue for dog boarding staff at times. But Shelmar Kennels more than provides excellent individualized care for our dog. The property is beautiful and meticulously well kept. With the impressive pond and big dock that the property boasts it's no wonder why our dog has so much fun there. Now when our dog starts to act up in any way we jokingly tell her that we are going to send her back to Ms. Shelly to straighten her up! Even though Shelmar is on the other side of Houston, that two hour round trip drive is more than worth it for the care our pup receives

Sit Stay, and Obey dog trainers are freaking Jedi masters…read more Sheila, the lovely owner, apprenticed under Dr. Lore Haug--an ACVB (American College of Veterinary Behaviorists) diplomat. If your little shi tzu mauled your kid, don't go to Cesar Milan. Get thee to an ACVB diplomat, a vet that is an animal behaviorist. Speaking from experience on this! Going to Dr. Haug was INSANELY expensive--b/c she is the top dog--heehee. It was very informative, but I was at a loss in knowing how to apply this knowledge to my home life w/o taking a second mortgage. I wish I had started w/ Sit Stay, and Obey! Sheila directly applies the theory and science AT MY HOME! My stupid dog can act like Lassie at an expensive, highly structured dog training facility. But my stupid dog won't act like that when he's with stupid me. Haha, I get that the majority of the solution lies w/ training me. Sheila came over to our house. She listened to the issues we had, helped us prioritize what needed to be worked on first, watched us, had us watch her, then had us try what we learned right there in our living room. She helped us get on a plan--realistic plan based on what we could actually achieve. And we had clear next steps and check-ins. I appreciate theory and information, but I am not smart enough to connect the dots into applying the knowledge at my house. I literally need someone to show me how to do this in my house, with my dog, and my family. We have since rehomed our little shi tzu at a god-send home w/ no kids. We now have an 8 month, almost 80 lb puppy that has benefited from working w/ Sheila since its first month on this earth. Because of Sheila our three-year old toddler is now empowered to help train and safely play with the monster (still always under our supervision of course). Sheila is guiding all of us to have the BEST relationships w/ the puppy and the puppy w/ us. It's quite beautiful after the scary start for my baby... And w/o paying the INSANE amounts of money to train my dog at somewhere other than our house. Thank you Sheila.... You've helped my baby's fear of dogs and empowered all of us to be whole again...

I gave this review one star and wish I could give it ZERO stars!!! That is because throughout my…read morewhole time working there, I've had continuous issues with Valeria Alvarez. She is a team lead who acts as if she is a manager. She acts as a self appointed manager even though that isn't her role nor job. She does not know how to speak to people, she is very verbally aggressive and was constantly antagonizing me and other coworkers. One of the run ins that I had with her was, right before I quit I had gotten sick (due to frequent changes in weather), and was trying to call in because of that fact. She informed me that I had to have a doctor's note to be able to call out. The issue with that is that we only get paid $10/hr and doctor visits are very expensive. It doesn't make sense to have to provide a doctor's note for a call-out because of me being sick. Especially because before that timeframe, it was failed to be communicated with me that it is a requirement to provide a doctor's note for a call-out due to me being under the weather. Not to mention that for all the work that we do, $10/hr is not a livable wage especially in this economy. Valería is the reason that I quit working here at Canine Country Club. She made it a very hostile work environment and spoke to me and other coworkers poorly and in a disrespectful manner often with no repercussions. She has had multiple instances of snapping at employees, belittling them, gossiping to people that she's close with and walking away from people while a conversation is actively being had. It should also be known that she has been put on leave previously for the same exact behavior and was allowed to come back as if nothing happened. I didn't report her behavior towards me because, I was scared of possible retaliation and the fear of my situation not being taken seriously. With all that being said, I think that Valería Alvarez treats her job as if it's an obligation and not a privilege. She should not be able to continue to treat people this way with no repercussions. The fact that she was even allowed back in the first place AFTER the first time as if nothing happened is repulsive and disturbing.
