I was here on business and tried the local mexican food restaurants. These are my takeaways: Food: Food here is bland, doesn't have much vibrance. I had a wet burrito which has salsa drizzled over it. Nada, it could've been water with food coloring. The meat was also flavorless, despite being Al Pastor which is basically marinated over a whole day. What gives? Service: Impeccable. The staff is super friendly and familiar. They're attentive and funny. I would probably bring friends and family here if the food wasn't bland. But if we're here to get hammered, why not. Ambiance: Awesome. It gives you the small cantina vibes but clearly geared for family and friends. I've been to many mexican restaurants, this one for sure takes the cake on terms of looks. All in all, great for people that can't have too many spices, people that want to bring friends and family, want to dine at a little slice of Mexico. read more

The night started great, we were seated fast and I was thrilled by the bean dip and salsa appetizer. However, after ordering our drinks (two waters and a beer) we received one water and a beer, asked repeatedly for the other water and haven't seen our waitress for close to 15 minutes. I finally flagged her down when she went to another table for the third time, and we had to again ask for a water while placing our food order. I'm hoping the food makes up for the lack of service, and I do hope my boyfriend gets his water. I also had to steal silverware and napkins from another table because we never received ours. 20 minutes later and we've had to ask for our water two more times. Finally got the water, but yet to have food. Even if the food here is great, the service is wrecking it for me. I don't see myself returning to wait over an hour for food. At this point my boyfriend is saying maybe we should go somewhere to get food while we wait for our food. Our salsa hasn't been topped off. We have been ignored in the far back end of the restaurant, and there are no helpers to top off water or bring chips and salsa. It's been over an hour. This is getting ridiculous. Other patrons have been begging for their check, and one couple just walked out and wished us luck on ever getting fed. I've now asked for the check so we can pay and go eat somewhere else. When I asked if our food was coming soon our waitress sighed at us and huffed off. It's been an actual hour and we have not eaten yet. As I was typing this my food arrived, mine was wrong. I asked multiple times for no cheese or sour cream; it arrived covered in cheese. We took three bites and left. As an Elite Yelper it takes a lot for me to leave a review below 4 stars however, I honestly want to give this review no stars. The entire experience start to finish was terrible. Our food was cold when it finally did come out. The food was wrong. We were forgotten. Considering this is across the street from our house we had high hopes for a new dinner place. Wonderful food and truly phenomenal customer service!! They made my family feel right at home and our 2 and 7 year old girls were super comfortable and smiling the entire time. Very attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed. Super clean bathrooms that even smelled great too. Si Amigos is the best place for an awesome meal out with your family or friends. We were hungry for Mexican food and, of course, Yelp helped us find this restaurant. We always order the same thing when trying a new Mexican restaurant. Both my husband and I had a chili relleno with a ground beef enchilada and I had a chicken enchilada. The chips were nice and hot but needed salt, and the salsa had no spice at all. The bean dip was pretty good. There was a choice of black beans or refried beans. We really liked the chili relleno as well as the enchiladas. He really liked the sauce but I wasn't crazy about it. The service was amazing. A manager as well as the server checked on us a couple times. I didn't take any pictures of the food, but I did take a picture of one of the chairs, because it had a giraffe.. All the chairs were different and beautiful. This place has been around forever. I used to come here all the time in college, but just recently went again in my 30s. They have delicious food. My favorite is the carnitas! We visited this restaurant for the first time"Dancing in the Streets " event and I was in love. We ordered a fajitas special with shrimp chicken and steak. The meats were marinated perfectly and the oil for the shrimp added the perfect touch. It tasted fresh and melted in your mouth. There is a lot of parking since this place is located inside a strip shopping mall. We ordered a few alcoholic beverages and they were on point! The kids enjoyed the Horchata. We had Fish and Shrimp Tacos and the White Bass was delicious. We also had a burrito for my daughter and she devoured it. The enchiladas were just like from my moms kitchen. Tacos Tuesday...Not a good deal. We felt cheated... I have not checked this restaurant out since they change the name (10 years) My wife was looking for a Tuesday dinner special and this place popped up that had two dollar tacos on Tuesday. We do a lot of Mexican restaurants and I didn't I have a great experience here 10 years ago here, so I thought why not give it a go. I brought my wife and three of my boys. When we walked in, the first thing I noticed is there was one other table. We pretty much had this giant restaurant to our self. My wife ordered a peach margarita, I got my usual Cadillac margarita on the rocks no salt. I asked about the Taco special, the guy said they were street tacos. He said they are smaller than normal. I've been to Mexico many times and I've been to sooo many Mexican restaurants, I was excited as I love a good street taco. The server (also bartender and owner) explained to me we had a choice of Carne Asada, pastor, carnitas or chicken. What we ordered: Cadillac margarita on the rocks no salt Peach margarita Five tacos Pastor Five tacos Carne Asada Five chicken tacos Five tacos Carnitas The drinks arrived pretty quickly, and were good. The Cadillac margarita did not have the signature Grand Marnier float on top. I'm not sure what type of tequila he used, but it was just an average Margherita compared to the ones I've been drinking lately. When the food arrives, we noticed that the tacos had very little meat on them. I mentioned that The tacos or short on meat and the guy said they're street tacos. I said I had plenty of street tacos and they've never been short on meat especially for two dollars. They gave no sauce, salsa or anything. I asked about this, and the guy went and got two squeeze bottles of two different sauces. I asked about pico de gallo, and the guy said it would be $2.50. It was pretty obvious at this point why there was no one in here for the " taco Tuesday" special. It was not a special it was just an excuse to give small tacos with very little meat. Small, Double layer tortilla with almost no meat, no tomatoes/salsa... So disappointing. Just look at the pictures. I have tried many taco Tuesday specials, this is the first time disappointed. I hope the owner reads this. Consider looking at other restaurants and how they do their taco Tuesday. It's designed to bring people in, generate new customers, reward existing customers with a special, and is similar to happy hour. You can read Wikipedia and other websites and the purpose. But even if there was no other information available, you would think that giving such a small amount of meat with a huge amount of starch, that you would at least honor a request of some thing to fill the tortilla, without charging. I am sure it would've been no issue to bring a little bit more meat for $40 price. If times are tough, being generous would generate way more business than being cheap. So after 20 tacos, my kids were still hungry. We paid the Bill (near $60) and headed over to a nearby Mexican restaurant that had a real two dollar tacos to to fill up me and my still hungry kids. They have the correct signature Cadillac Margarita with a Grand Marnier float. Plus they don't close till 9 PM, so we knew they were near and open. We've been to four Mexican restaurants this week, I was hoping to add another restaurant to our rotation, especially since we go to Sports west every day. But we will not be back here. Wow! I wish I could leave 0 stars. This place needs new management. The menu says complimentary chips, beans and salsa. When we finished the chips, they took the empty basket, salsa and beans we didn't finish. Knowing he would charge for more salsa when our food arrived I wouldn't have let him take the salsa in the first place. When asked why he did that he became very rude and tried to justify what he did saying it was my fault I didn't know. Horrible service all around. I Was so mad I didn't even finish my food before leaving the cash to cover just the bill and no tip. As a food service worker he said I should know better. Took my son and his two children out to dinner. Six of us total, Food was ok, though the chicken burrito had very little chicken. We were charged a 20 percent gratuity along with a $5 charge for using my credit card. That came to a $25 charge on my bill. Went to take my compatriots to another restaurant in this strip mall that I frequent but the consensus changed when one of my passengers suggested Si Amigos. Never been there but I have been to most of the bars and restaurants in that area so I decided to give it a shot. The interior has a lot of wood and high ceilings, which makes for a comfy ambiance. The bar stretches out just beyond the door where a couple were having lunch. We got seated at a booth decorated with one of those colorful striped blankets you see adorned in shops and homes in Mexico. My friends got margaritas and I got a vampiro for drinks. The margaritas came in nice big, bowl like glasses and I heard they were pretty tasty. My Vampiro was an interesting drink and had the sweetness and spiciness of those Mexican candies with the tamarind. One of my friends immediately ordered one after I informed him and was equally impressed at the unusual(for me) drink. Our server was super cool and laid back and got our orders and drinks quickly. One moment that stood out to us was a neighboring table receiving their order of fajitas as the food comes out hot and sizzling on one of those metal platters. We all instantly regretted not ordering that amazing looking dish. In any case, my chili colorado was nice and tender, with a savory and slightly spicy tomato sauce. The plate also came with rice and a little bit of a cabbage garnish. I got corn tortillas but it felt weird to eat the chili with them so I let the table have at them. My friends tell me the chimichanga and enchiladas were also very good. Honorary shout out to the bean dip they serve alongside the standard chips and salsa, that stuff is fire. The chef that day, who I assume is the owner was super cool and friendly and made sure we liked our food and said goodbye as we left. I went to Si Amigos Mexican food for the first time, just to encounter really bad food. My daughter ordered a COLD campechana which is supposed to be COLD, they brought it HOT with only shrimp. Not to mention that I went to ask for a hot sauce that the Server forgot to bring, and I overheard the server say mmmm I was just over there. I am a server myself and this kind of comment is just not acceptable. Not to mention that she charged us for the extra chips that she offered and the two tortillas that were supposed to be complementary. Overall bad experience. Don't recommend this place. There are plenty more good authentic Mexican places to go, unfortunately, this was one of the few places open that day. I should have noticed from the beginning what a bad place to eat since it was pretty much empty. read more

From the outside I wouldn't have expected it to w such a bright and warm place. This was a great place for dinner with friends. There space out the tables and the staff all wore masks and gloves. There are pages of options to choose from on the menu. I went with a regular combo, taco and chili Chili Relleno. They tasted delicious. I ate everything and washed it down with a Sierra Nevada beer. My friends all agreed, it was a good choice. One of them got the Mole Poblano and it looked so good. I asked for a taste because I had never tried mole before and was intrigued by the chocolate sauce. Very nice taste, it reminds me of Christmas for some reason. read more

Wow! So me and my friend stumbled into this place and we do not regret it. I've never been to a Mexican place that gives free chips and bean dip but that's a match mad in heaven! The music was pretty groovy and the decor was cool. As for the food, I ordered a enchilada combo and it was a lot of food for the price. Spanish rice, beans, and an enchilada just for $8. It was quite tasty. Our waitress was very nice and refilled our waters. After I paid and left I realized I left my card at the restaurant. We met up with some family for lunch here, wanting to try a new Mexican place. The server was friendly and we got our order pretty quick, although we were only one of two parties at the time. The shrimp and chicken fajitas were good with a decent serving of guac and sour cream which I like. The rice and beans were ok, not much flavor. The chips and salsa were decent, and I did like the bean dip they bring you as well. We hadn't been to Si Amigos in quite some time and arriving at 4:40p on a Sunday afternoon we were greeted by a paper sign pasted to the front door saying that due to staffing shortages the restaurant would close on Sunday's at 5pm. I was hesitant to go in, but we entered the lobby area and asked the Manager (I believe his name was Omar), if it would be ok if we came in. He said yes, but I suspected some hesitation in his voice, but none-the-less greeted us with a smile. We couldn't help to notice a female server who was nearby at the time, who grunted softly, something to the effect of "oh great" which made us all feel uncomfortable like we were the last thing she wanted to see; luckily Omar served us, which was appreciated. I can tell you the the food we ordered was good, very flavorful and prepared well. The tortilla soup was served in a huge oversized bowl which Ron enjoyed and cheese enchiladas were delicate and in a tasty red sauce. Denise had chicken enchiladas and a chicken taco combo and I had the chicken fajitas. While we enjoyed our meal we rushed to eat because and check out our ticket in less than 35 minutes from the time we entered. There was no mention of drink refills or dessert, but that was actually not expected nor desired. We actually wound up going elsewhere for dessert. I'm actually on the fence about returning anytime soon, but will say that while not a great experience Omar was very friendly and the food was good, so despite the tension from the time of day, if you go be sure to lookout for closing time and steer clear of it. While driving around after my haircut, I craved tacos. There's a spot almost right next door to where I get my haircut but that wasn't the food I was jonesing for today. My go-to spot was packed for lunch so I kept going until I said out loud in the car, "let's go see Omar!" The man whose name was blurted out in my car is the owner, proprietor of Si Amigos. When I arrived, I opened the door and saw Omar sitting at the bar, eating lunch. I said, "Omar!" He was startled but happy to see me. His restaurant is chock-full of family recipes so choosing one item, in particular, wasn't easy. I saw molé enchiladas and ALMOST went with those but I wanted tacos. I ordered the three Al Pastor taco plate. The server offered chips and salsa and of course, I said, "yes, please." After chatting with Omar for a few, my food arrived. I was super hungry so I knew the food wasn't going to stand a chance. Boy, was I wrong. By the time I made it through most of the chips and salsa, two tacos, and all of the rice, there was one taco left. Omar said, "you can't be done. You still have one left." I said, "i really want to eat it but I'm super comfortable right now", so I got a to-go box and made sure to bring it with me when I left. The meat in the tacos was incredibly flavorful, the corn tortillas were absolutely perfect, and the rice they serve is SO close to my grandmother's recipe. I felt like I was a teenager again, back in her kitchen, listening to her and my Grandfather have a conversation. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great, the staff is really friendly, and the food ...oh man, the food is on-point. They have a killer tequila selection including a chipotlé tequila designed for a Bloody Maria. I'm not saying that I'm looking forward to enjoying one of those when I'm hungover but I'm also not going to turn away the drink if I'm not hungover. All in all, today's stop was most definitely 10/10. I look forward to going back there soon. Thanks for taking the time to read this review. Naw in for my birthday meal recently and remembered why I enjoy this Mexican spot so much! Right off the bat, our waiter was friendly and helpful and super attentive to our needs. We ordered some delicious cocktails including a Vampiro, which was super refreshing with just the right amount of spice. I love the uniqueness of serving bean dip at the table along with your salsa. It really elevates the chips and salsa experience and their bean dip is really smooth and creamy. I got the So amigos Especial with chicken beef and shrimp served with this maxing butter for dipping. I wanted to drown everything in that butter. It really elevated all of the meats. Accompanied with nice fluffy rice and more smooth beans this was the total package. Definitely a good option for Mexican food in Reno although some of their authenticity may be lacking in a few areas. read more

Ive been going to this place for a couple years now, for my friends birthday. Ive never really been blown away, except for today! I ordered the steak fajitas and they were delicious! OMG! They were served sizzling hot, and tasted perfect! The staff is always awesome, friendly and helpful. The chips come with a warm bean dip and salsa both of which are wonderful. I totally recommend the steak fajitas, but im told the enchiladas are awesome as well. They are made with a peanut sauce and are supposed to be the best? Next time, its going down like that. My wife and I came here about 11:30am on a Sunday. It was not too busy, I think there was one other table seated. In addition to the dining area, there is a bar area that also has slot machines as expected in Reno. We were promptly seated and brought complimentary tortilla chips, beans and salsa. The salsa is thick but not chunky, just the way I like it. The menu is large and offers a lot of options. Our orders were taken and I chose the chili verde and my wife chose a chicken burrito. One thing we noticed was everything is very clean and appears to be well taken care of. We noticed they have a happy hour Monday - Friday from 3pm to 7pm and 2 for 1 house margaritas all day Tuesday and Thursdays. Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked great. The burrito was huge. Everything tasted very good. The tortillas that came with the chili verde were very good as well. The price was decent, the service was great and the food very tasty. This was a nice surprise! We debated about giving this 5 stars, however, the chili verde plate looked skimpy compared to the chicken burrito but it cost almost 50% more.
