I knew I wanted to use Shovel and Thumb when I had this idea in my head. I had drainage issues and it really needed a professional to do it right. So, I called the best, Cohen was so great at seeing my vision and had recommendations to make it happen. We couldn't be happier. Great crew, Durante, Nico, Cameron and more.

Great job on adding concrete pavers to my driveway and edging along the sidewalk. Quick work and cleaned up afterward. I'm very pleased and highly recommend this company!

We hired Shovel and Thumb to landscape an approximately 4000 sq. ft. area. The work included irrigation, lighting, demolition, boulder placement and planting. The reason we chose them was because of their proven skills, professional certifications and that the quote was reasonable and thorough. They definitely stood apart from the others we were considering. The project started and finished on schedule, in spite of some things we added to the project along the way. They were very willingly excepted change orders and didn't try to gouge us. Communication was exceptional throughout the entire process. All of the work quality was excellent. Their entire team was friendly and accommodating. If I ever need more landscape work they will be the first call that I make.

Planter/Trellis

Cohan and Bryan are an amazing team of professional landscapers! We were recommended this company by a landscape designer who said if you want the job done right this is the company. After moving into our new home we were faced with a mud pit for a backyard and neighbors with a window overlooking our backyard patio. We needed landscaping with a privacy solution and Shovel and Thumb took our design (provided by Gregg and Ellis Designs) and elevated it beyond our dreams!! They began the job with a contract that spelled out every step of the process. The team showed up on time and worked 3 long days, into the dark and cold night, until the job was completed. They installed all plants as the design specified and built the most AMAZING Planter/trellis . Upon completion they throughly cleaned the job site of any evidence that they were there. Hire this company and be blown away with their quality workmanship!

He is upfront about budget and costs and keeps you updated every step of the way so there are no unpleasant surprises. What puts Harley's company in a league of its own, is his team. These are not subcontractors with tons of other jobs all happening simultaneously. He hand picked these workers, who are masters in their fields. What this means is, that team showed up early every morning. They worked hard and wasted no time. They are experts at what they do and they take pride in the job they perform. Harley treats your job like he is working on his own house. This comes across very clearly in every decision and choice he makes to select materials, plants, products, etc. He also consulted me before every design decision was made, from the the height of the step leading to the backyard, to the exact color of the cement, to the exact placement of the plants before the digging took place. Another designer may have gone ahead and planted the plants per the architectural design, but Harley has this innate understanding that people change their minds when they see things actually laid out, or after they have time to think about the project as it it progressing. It is this insightful understanding about human nature, that greatly reduces stress during the project as you come to trust and appreciate these rare qualities that you don't find in most people. I am so pleased with the work Design Prodigy did in the backyard.

Highest praise possible and so much gratitude to Earth Ecology for the amazingness that has become…read moreour yard. I was fortunate enough to see some of their handiwork at an event held in the yard of someone who had previously discovered them. Hearing about what that space had looked like before and seeing the magical landscape that had been created there, I knew my wife and I needed to meet Nick Lake. Since then, he and his fantastic team have completely transformed our outside space into the most beautiful part of our home. Nick is an absolute treasure trove of inspiration and information. From the moment we first met with him, we knew we wanted to proceed as soon as possible. We didn't have pressing issues that made landscaping work an "emergency" (e.g., no water problems directly related to the yard), so an outside project easily could have waited. We also did not have a high level of horticultural knowledge, nor did we even know exactly what we wanted when we first started talking to Nick. We knew our yard had "potential", i.e. it was a smallish but not tiny, pretty drab space that wasn't particularly functional and wasn't much to look it. It was our conversation with Nick and his vision for the yard that made us want to move forward at that time and turn it into something great. Since then, with a combination of "demo" work, mulching, softscaping and hardscaping, every aspect of our yard has become a thing of beauty that we see and enjoy every single day. Throughout the process, Nick and his team have worked closely with us on every decision and every detail. Nick plays an integral role in all parts of the process and communication with him and his team has always been easy, fun, rewarding, and thorough. There have never been any surprises in terms of cost or how something was done. As a result, everything is exactly what was discussed and we could not be any happier with it. Nick certainly deserves the lion's share of the credit as the owner of the business, the mastermind behind the work, and a hands-on contributor to the implementation. That said, huge shout out for his entire crew and honorary mention for Tulsi, the smart and adorable dog that might make some appearances if Tashana is working and you give the green light. Every member of the team brings something important to the job, always including hard work but also creativity and individual areas of interest and expertise. The result is frequent flashes of brilliance and pleasant surprises throughout all phases of a project. It isn't a great time of year for pictures as I'm writing this (I'll add more in the spring) but below is a stone bench that took form during one day's work. This was not even part of the original plan, just an off-the-cuff idea (thanks to Kyle, Tommy, Daniel and Tashana if memory serves) to which we could have said "no thanks" if we were that foolish. Even once there are more pictures to add, they can only do so much. Nick knows he is always welcome to swing by and show off the beauty, which keeps getting better with every growth season. Whether we are sitting in the yard, walking through it to get to or from the house, or just staring at it through a window, we count ourselves lucky that this is actually part of our home. I cannot recommend Earth Ecology strongly enough. With Nick and his crew, you will get everything that you wanted and a lot more. As happened for us, you will get done with each step and be so happy that you decided to go for it, and occasionally scratch your head wondering if there is anything else you can do out there. Thanks, Earth Ecology :-)

He arrived day #1 with 5 laborers, planting all 40 arborvitae and starting on the retaining wall and patio, finishing the job on day #2 with just 1 other worker. They did an excellent job on the wall and patio. It is difficult to find businesses you can trust, but my experience with Lightning Landscaping was nothing but positive. He gave me a detailed bid and followed-up on my questions, starting and finishing the job on-time. Having underestimated the number of pavers required, I did have to pay an additional $90 I was not expecting, but it was not a big deal. If you need a landscaper, Andres is honest, fair, and professional. CombatCritic Gives Lightning Landscaping 9 Bombs Out Of 10 ... More Bombs Are Better!

Daniel came to "diagnose" the problem , which could be seen because the pipes had come apart and were above ground. The pipe needing replacement was easily accessible and approximately 10 ft. long. The estimate seemed fair because he stated he would repair the pipe and bury it as able. He did fix the pipe, but nothing was buried and he left the old pipe lying in my yard. When I complained, he stated that he didn't bury any piping because it would have increased the "scope of work". I paid $400 for one pipe replacement. His "remedy" was to offer to come remove the old pipe. I can't cut it into pieces small enough to fit in my trashcan. He didn't do this . Daniel replied to this review. He charged an initial fee for "diagnosis" of a visibly leaking pipe. This was supposed to be credited. The total was $400. I got a pipe fixed and left unburied in spite of the quote including this. Hi reference to the previous work is irrelevant. He had no responsibility for the exisitng state, which , as I said was poor. He fixed a leaking pipe. That's it. All arguments other than one leaking pipe being replaced, above ground, are not relevant nor do they justify charging $400.
