Scheduling and delivery went off without a hitch. Could not say that are things about this place. Local to me as well so it's easy to stop in and schedule something. However, I received a very professional card from them, apologizing for the mistake and taking ownership. I had one area in my lawn that was all torn up and needed to be fixed up and reseeded etc. GRO came out for an estimate and while talking I asked about another part of the lawn that wasn't looking real good. He said it needed aerating, thatching and over-seeding, and that would fix it up. Then we talked about bark-dusting, and I said I needed that too. He said they could probably do the whole lawn and bark-dusting for about double just doing that one bare spot. That surprised me so I told him to give me a bid for just the bare spot, and a bid for doing everything. So I got a bid for over-seeding the bare spot of $1637. Then the other bid said barkdust refresh, lawn dethatch, Seeding, and peat Moss Application, spring lawn Aeration, Lime, and starter fertilizer for $3153. He said in the bid it's actually cheaper to do all the lawn areas as one. That to me was the bid for everything, so I thought I'd go for that, even though that was more then I wanted to spend. They wanted 50% of the total down to get me on a schedule, so we used a visa payment on the computer with my acceptance for the bid. They included a computer form/link for me to send the 50% and I sent a payment of $1453. That would be for half of the bid before tax; $2906, and they accepted it. They came out about a month later and did a fine job as far as the work went. Then I used that same form and sent them $1637.28. The other half plus tax. Now they are saying that those 2 bids were 1 for the bare spot and the other was just the rest of the lawn and I still owed them $1839.19. I talked on the phone with the sales man who made the bids and he said those areas were 2 different bids, not the whole thing. I would never in my life spend close to $5000 to spruce up my lawn. Except for the bare spot, the rest wasn't real bad, just some dry spots etc. I could work on that myself, but thinking the whole lawn and barkdust for twice what the bare spot would be was worth it. So I ended up paying the rest. That was some shady, misleading way they did things. So watch out real carefully how and what they say. read more

We moved into our home on over an acre 5 years ago. GRO had done some basic landscaping for the builder and installed the sprinkler system. We've had GRO come out a couple of times to repair the sprinklers (our fault due to "mower mishaps"). They were so easy to work, incredibly professional and respectful, and did the job right. Over the last year, we experienced all sorts of life issues that kept us from being able to spend the time necessary to maintain the yard. Weeds had taken over everything, and I was embarrassed and overwhelmed. I called local companies for bids on clean-up and maintenance. GRO Outdoor Living was not the lowest cost, however they are the most professional and they listened to what I wanted rather than telling me what they would do. The clean-up portion of my yard has been completed. The crews who performed the work displayed incredible work ethic, care for my property, and something I can only describe as a "whistle while you work" approach. I didn't take any before pics because, as I said, I was embarrassed by what my yard had become. I hired GRO for three separate projects at my house in Oregon City. Two of the three they completed, but the third they fumbled pretty badly at the end. They were to install irrigation, lawn and planting bed irrigation to a little over an acres of the south lawn area. They hurried to install irrigation and to hydroseed mid- to late-Sept. 2022 in order to beat the rains coming in late Oct. They skipped the standard practice of irrigating the dirt to cause weed seeds to germinate, then spray to kill weeds before hydroseeding. When I questioned this, the job foreman assured me that they would return in the spring to spray the weeds. Come spring, they refused to do that for me, saying it wasn't in the contract. They also failed to install 3 or 4 sprinkler heads at one end of the lawn, so the grass in that area died. They also refused to fix what was obviously their oversight on this issue. I now wonder if they will even make good on their 1-year warranty on plant material they installed. read more

I live in a new housing community called Lakehills, it's next to Lacamas Shores in Camas, WA. Gro was the landscaper for my house and they did a terrible job on my backyard. I'm the original home owner and the backyard is always covered in standing water and no grass is able to grow. I've tried all kinds of new seeds and fertilizer, but 95% of the year there is standing water. I even stopped water the lawn for months to see if it would help... water is still there. I literally have a swamp in my backyard and it's a horrible muddy mess. I eventually learned that two of my next door neighbors also had the exact same issue with their backyard and they also used Gro. We all had standing water in the backyard year round. It was determined that the backyard grade was not correct. This is a clear design flaw from Gro. In fact, one of the houses had to get fixed twice because Gro kept failing. Even more, Gro was willing to fix their issues for free but they refused to even look at my backyard. I just wanted an evaluation, but they refused to take any responsibility for their work. I would avoid using Gro services at all cost. Their customer service is poor and their workman ship is embarrassing. read more

We have nothing but positive things to say about GRO. They designed and built a covered structure over a concrete pad for a new hot tub. They converted an existing window to a door, added new stairs, and took care of all the landscaping around the new structure, planting a dozen new trees and bushes. It was amazing to have a one-stop shop for all the major and minor work, as GRO partners with other contractors. Their electrician did an excellent job with the tub wiring, and installed a needed dedicated outlet in a far end of the house as well. GRO even took on random things that arose during the project, helping with a couple of unrelated emergency leaks for us and getting their trusted plumber, with the part we needed, to do the work needed within the hour. We had a consistent project manager who took care of everything; he was communicative, extremely experienced and competent, full of great suggestions, and really understood our needs. Along with another reviewer, if I could give than minus stars I would do so. I spent $3500 on a side fencing project that looks horrible. They use prestained wood and there are tons of bare spots. Their solution: buy the stain and hire someone else to spray the fence because they don't spray stain! So on top of the $3500 I already spent I am supposed to shell out more money to make their crappy fencing look good. Additionally , a couple weeks after the fence was put up they had to come replace some warped boards. When removing a horizontal board two of the vertical fencing boards they installed were broken at the top and hidden. The employee's response " they'll be hidden by the board". They will blow you off and not return phone calls I was assured the project manager would get back to me. Never heard from them again. STAY AWAY!!!!!! read more

I wish there were negative stars on Yelp. I can not state strongly enough how unprofessional Gro Outdoor living are as an company. Here's a few watchouts if you're even considering them. 1. After agreeing to an estimate they kept increasing the cost of things for various (dubious) reasons which resulted in our project becoming hugely expensive for us. 2. They ended up taking 5 months longer to finish the job than estimated and we did some investigating to find out that they'd secretly taken on another project and were just fitting us in on one day a week. When confronted about this they said they could do whatever they wanted to as there was enough business in Portland that they didn't care what our opinion was of them. Really nice... 3. They neglected to fix anything during the warranty period as they "were too busy". 4. The work itself was extremely poor quality. Numerous contractors we've had since have mentioned how slapdash the work they did was. Honestly I could keep going for hours, it was the worst experience I've had with any business in my entire life. read more

Gro is the landscaper that the builder of our new home uses, and when we got to the landscaping phase, we had presumed we would get a quick square piece of grass and an in/out mentality since its a new build / install. We are so impressed with the crew that we had onsite. Bonifacio was the foreman and was so professional and really cared about what we wanted. His crew Luis and Anthony were a pleasure to work with! They hustled all day long from dawn til dusk. They were here every day before it was even light enough to see to make sure they could take advantage of first daylight and they never left until after it was dark again. We've worked with many crews over our build and by far these guys had the best work ethic. Never a moment of slacking even when we tried to give them snacks to say thank you. They always erred on the side of caution to make sure water drained properly, and cleaned up every night to make sure everything looked as nice as possible, even knowing they'd be back the next morning and things would get dirty again. They were so hard working, clearly take a ton of pride in the work they do and we can't speak highly enough of this crew! I would absolutely have this team come out for some enhancements down the road. They were a delight and we absolutely love the work they did for us! Thank you for all your hard work! We just had a house built and cut back on our landscaping allowances with the builder so we could get other things for the house that we needed done. GRO had put in a nice front yard on the budget that we were on and we left the back pretty much bare for the time being. When one of our plants died in the front of the house GRO came out and replaced it. Then the deer stated eating some of our plants so my wife called to ask what they would recommend to make them stop. GRO came out and swapped our plants for another which was totally unexpected. We got hit with heavy rains last month and our back yard experienced a few puddling issues where water would build up along the sides of the house and not drain. I remember talking with them as this was a cause for initial concern when the house was under construction. GRO told me not to worry and to contact them if it ever became an issue and would address it then. Last week they came out and installed a new drain and laid a rock bed along the sides and fence line along with new bark dust in both the front and back yards and did a beautiful job. Folks, I don't know what more you want from a company like GRO Outdoor Living. We didn't spend a ton of money with them yet they took exceptional care of us. These guys went over and above our expectations which is why I am posting this review tonight. They are honest, ethical and a pillar in the Vancouver business community. After five weeks from my first contact (left detailed voicemail) I received a landscape maintenance proposal by mail for our business. The proposal was not as detailed as others that I have received over the years, but was adequate. It also does not have quite as much inclusive service (exp. lawn chemical applications are extra) Now here is the kicker, THE PRICE WAS BARELY OVER HALF my prior service providers monthly fee. They have now been doing our landscape service for a few months and the quality is the same if not higher than before. From what I have gathered, they run a lean operation so they don't wast money on extra office personnel to answer phones all day, nor will they drive to Timbuktu for your house service. They provide service to many of the fast food restaurants near our practice, so the concentration of work helps keep the price down. With all that said I am willing to to accept these shortcomings for a 40% discount. Clearly they are passing the savings onto their customers. Another positive, is that you can cancel your service with a 30 day notice. This is practically unheard of in landscape service contract. Clearly they are confident that they can meet or exceed their customers expectations. read more

Our builder uses Gro. We had them install sod, sprinkler system, bark and drainage. They did nice work and were efficient, but try to get a call or email or any communication back, forget about it. Very poor communication. We requested a sketch of our properties sprinkler lines. Brand new house, not sure where the lines are buried, and we received nothing. Poor, very poor. read more

GRO helped create an amazing transformation of our private streetscape. We went from Sleepy Hollow dreariness to a vibrant landscape for our 5-lot neighborhood. I am particularly appreciative of the professionalism and responsiveness of GRO's on-site crews. They provided "turnkey" services so that I did not have to coordinate multiple subcontractors for a complex landscaping project. Furthermore, GRO's interpretations of and additions to the landscaping plans really helped to improve the overall project design. The neighborhood is ecstatic about the improvements...it is like we are driving into a new community each day. Each GRO suggestion, including additional boulders, added lighting, and different plant groupings helped to improve on the original design concept and related change orders were reasonably priced. They were not the cheapest of the bids we received for this ~$45,000 project, but they aggressively courted us and followed through with their promises for quality, schedule, and professionalism.
