My wife and I recently visited Shorty's BBQ and used a coupon that saved us about $7 or $8, which was a great start to our meal. I ordered the Pork Steak with Coleslaw and Fries, while my wife had the Spare Ribs with the same sides. We both got a side of Garlic Bread, which was also very good--my wife especially liked it. The pork steak was tasty, and the coleslaw was awesome--definitely a highlight of the meal. I'm not a big fan of fries, but I have to admit that these were very good. My wife thought her ribs were just okay. After that, I also ordered a Beef Brisket Plate. Unfortunately, this was the biggest disappointment. The brisket was too dry for us; most of the pieces were overcooked. We did find two or three pieces that were really juicy, but they were the exception. The service was good, and overall, it was a positive experience, especially considering the savings from the coupon. While most of the food was great, I probably won't be ordering the brisket again.

I went to have dinner/lunch. The young server was nice I waited about 25 minutes for my food. I ordered a half rack of ribs with fries and a corn. What I didn't appreciate was that the ribs were cold. The fries were ok I will give it an5 out of 10

Yummy pork steaks

I love BBQ and this is where I like to eat it at. Great ribs, wings, and pork steak! This last one was a surprise. Never had it before and it was very delicious. Their corn on the cob is so good. And so is the garlic bread. Service, ambience, food, bang for your buck. Everything is great. Highly recommend.

Every time I'm in Miami I always try to hit Shortys BBQ. at least once. The food is always the same no surprises just good barbecue and that's what I'm looking for so tired of the spin off places that want to add their new touch to barbecue which turns us old-school barbecue people off very fast shorties isn't that place and they've been around a long time And I think they'll be around a lot longer because they stick to doing old-school barbecue and not trying to come up with something new

Can't get enough of this place I can't say it enough the food is always good! The corn is a must as well as the baby back ribs this has become my daughter's favorite place to eat if I mention the name she's like can we go! The customer service is exceptional as well! One thing I would love to recommend add some Grilled shrimp or shrimp kabobs!!

Best pecan pie

Went on a Saturday night and the restaurant wasn't busy but had a constant flow of traffic. Was helped out by our server Maria S. She was fantastic. She didn't rush us, allowed us time to talk and relax. Best part is She truly encouraged us to return and was proud of where she worked. In regards to the food, I ordered a corn as a starter. Be careful the butter was HOT! Even though I may have burned my mouth a bit, it was worth it! Great way to start dinner. This was followed by burnt ends which had great flavor. A bit larger than other places but they were great. My meal was the brisket and chicken platter. My only cocomplaint is the chicken wasn't good. I expected a sliced piece of chicken like their menu but received 2 pieces of chicken (drumstick and thigh) that were extremely dry and lacked flavor. I finished the night off with their pecan pie and let me tell you that was the best part of the meal even with the great start. I wish I could take home a pie this good!

Baby back ribs were so hard, overcooked, dry. I'll never comeback. The waitress was very nice.

Great spot for yummy comfort food. Baby-back ribs are fall off the bone tender. Smoked brisket was a tad bit fatty but overall great taste.

The food was absolutely delicious and the service was top notch. Our server explained the entire menu to us and manager even visited our table to ask how everything was. Note: wait time to be seated can be long. Make sure to sign up in advance for their wait list on yelp and let them know when you arrive. The waiting area is in an outside tent with a fan and benches. They do provide free water and beer while you wait for your table which definitely makes them different. I really liked that they did that

We arrived around 6:45 and there was a 20 min wait, it didn't take that long & they offered free beer & water while we waited. It was off to a great start! Our server was kind and polite however it took her forever to take our orders and come back with the checks. She told us after we'd order that there can only be three checks which is fine but I wished it was communicated sooner. I'd never in my life been so irate with poor/slow service. It was insane!! It wasn't even that busy. The food itself is 5 stars!! I sampled the loaded fries with mac & cheese, & pulled pork. It was to die for! The brisket & cheese empanadas were delicious. My entree was the half rack of ribs and loaded mac & cheese it was everything!! SN: they don't do online or call in orders, just a FYI.

Upon arriving it sets the mood entirely with great fun appropriate decor and a prompt happy welcome. Staff Makes us feel they are glad we came-What a cool place! We settle on the brisket, baby back ribs, potato salad and beans with brisket. Can I tell you EvErYtHiNg was spot on!! And we plan accordingly to try their famous 12 hour smoked Flan dessert!! 1. Smoked Brisket- moist, perfect flavor, hearty portion, tender and high quality meat. Comes with great sauce, which I didn't use since it was so perfect as is. 2. Smoked Baby Back Ribs- Another hit with healthy portion, great flavor, and super meaty. Honestly, just hard to stop eating it! 3. Baked Beans with Brisket- A true meal unto itself! I could've stopped here! Tons of brisket ground into the beans, almost like the best "chili" ever. Flavor is sophisticated smokiness, not the usual sugary sweet restaurant rendition. Yay! 4. Potato salad is FIRE! Fresh perfectly cooked tender white potatoes, cooked carrots & peas add just enough interest and a magical a touch of mayo. Yes please. 5. 12 hour smoked Flan-STAR * of the show, the flan of my dreams! Staff insisted this flan is all that and they are correct! It's LEGIT. We left with a doggie bag, so worth it. Price was for real, you pay for quality. $74, but we brought plenty home. You could get by with a meal for two around $50-60, if you need. Check out their Later week Happy hour sand weekly specials as well as brunch & breakfast. It's all good here! Thanks for following me-happy spring 2026! ~Tami in Miami

Smoke & Dough... I Went Looking for BBQ... and Found One of the Best Pastrami Sandwiches in South…read moreFlorida Back in my day, going out for BBQ wasn't something you did every weekend. It was a special occasion. If you grew up in Miami, you probably remember The New Hickory on Coral Way. Then there was Uncle Tom's on 8th Street. Great food... but let's be honest... everybody was just a little nervous eating there because it was right next to the cemetery. You'd be halfway through your ribs thinking... "¿Tú crees que ese ruido vino del parking... o del cementerio? Later on we graduated to Luther's on Bird Road and 117th Avenue, and of course, Shorty's, the undisputed king that's been feeding hungry Miamians for generations. These days it seems like a new BBQ place opens every other week in South Florida. I recently tried one of the newer spots in South Miami... except when we got there they were out of half the menu. Nothing kills your BBQ excitement faster than hearing, "Sorry... we're out of brisket." That's like walking into Versailles and hearing they're out of croquetas. So when our friends Ana and Henry invited Betty and me to Smoke & Dough in Kendall, I was ready to get my BBQ on. We walked into this unassuming strip mall, I grabbed the menu, ready to order ribs or brisket... ...and then I saw it. The Pastrami Sandwich. Now THAT got my attention. Finding a really good pastrami sandwich down here isn't easy. Roasters 'N Toasters has a very good one. Lox of Bagels (what many of us still call Lox of Lox) makes a solid one too. But this one... This one beat them both by a mile. The meat was warm, juicy, incredibly flavorful, the cheese perfectly melted, the Thousand Island dressing was just the right amount, and the bread held everything together without falling apart after the second bite... a miracle in itself. And it wasn't one of those fancy little sandwiches you need a magnifying glass to find on the plate. This thing was substantial. I shared it with my wife... ...and I was full. ¡Y yo soy tremendo comelón! Our friends ordered the brisket empanadas, a quiche, and brisket sandwiches that looked absolutely outstanding. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked like somebody back there really cared about what they were serving. The atmosphere surprised me. Instead of feeling like an old-school BBQ joint with picnic tables and sauce bottles everywhere, it feels more like a cozy neighborhood bistro that just happens to know its way around a smoker. Comfortable, relaxed, and the kind of place where nobody is rushing you out the door because another party is waiting. They also have what looked like an excellent selection of wines and craft beers, which gives the place a slightly elevated feel without being pretentious. Now... everybody has been telling me about their famous **Smoked Flan Apparently it's slowly cooked on the barbecue pit for about five hours, giving the creamy custard and caramel a subtle smoky flavor. Believe me... I wanted to try it. But after that pastrami... Game over. There wasn't enough room left. The owners came over, introduced themselves, shared a little of the history behind Smoke & Dough, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Those little moments still matter. You leave feeling like they appreciate your business instead of treating you like the next number in line. Overall, we had a wonderful time. Good food. Great company. Friendly owners. A relaxed atmosphere where you actually want to stay awhile. After our last dining experience at another restaurant where we practically felt like they were timing us with a stopwatch, this was a refreshing change. Will I be back? Absolutely. Not just for the BBQ... I'm coming back to see if that smoked flan lives up to the hype. And maybe... Just maybe... I'll order ,another pastrami sandwich.

Per my usual attitude my first time somewhere, I wanted to try several items. The owner was super nice and gave multiple suggestions. I ended-up trying a really affordable wing special that comes with rice and beans, slaw, plantain chips and I added mac. I also added brisket, and that came with slaw. The green bean salad comes in one size as an add-on. Okay first, the owner is clearly magic, because there isn't a grill in sight. I had no intention of ordering wings, but these are seriously the best wings I've had anywhere, in a long time (100/10). The rice and beans (10/10), and the rice smelled like it came from abuelita's kitchen. The slaw, oh my goodness (100/10), so simple, and yet perfect! I thought the chips were unnecessary . . . NOT! These are delicious (10/10) and 100% belonged on my plate. The mac . . . well, you can't win 'em all. The brisket was good (9/10) and the sauce is mustard-based, just like I like it, but the star is what got me there, the green bean salad! This was a fresh, exciting dish that is like nothing you've ever had (1,000/10), I won't describe the ingredients here, because I think you should be surprised. I can't wait to go back. This is my new BBQ spot!

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the smell of smoked meat, and you know you're in for something special. It's a quaint little place with community-style picnic table seating indoors, and you can tell it gets busy during peak hours. The staff treated us like family from the moment we walked in and made us feel right at home. I ordered the baby back ribs and brisket, and both were outstanding. The collard greens were hands down the best I've ever had, and the sweet potato soufflé was just as memorable. Even the Texas toast was incredible--I don't usually talk about bread, but this stuff was fire! The drinks were served in large cups, and the sweet tea was absolutely perfect. Dinner for two came to about $78, which might seem a little high at first, but quality barbecue isn't cheap, and every dollar was worth it. The portions were generous, everything was fresh, and this was easily one of the best barbecue meals I've had. We were so full we almost skipped dessert, but I'm glad we didn't. The homemade Key lime pie was the best we had during our entire trip to the Keys. It was smooth, creamy, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of Key lime flavor, and unlike some of the others we tried, it wasn't gritty at all. It was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. We'll absolutely be back the next time we're in South Florida.
