We drive to Hood River from Beavercreek because the service and selection are outstanding at Shortt Supply. It's amazing the assortment of shoes that are available. I needed a pair of weight lifting shoes. Check! They had them. Danielle was wonderful to work with. She is super knowledgeable about what type of shoes for what purpose. The prices are as good as any store. You get what you pay for, and you're paying for quality. read more

Return policy is not close to REI. Do not buy anything here. My wife bought shoes that did not perform well on a downhill hike. Shoes were not worn after that hike. Returned for a half size bigger as AI recommends and were told a 30% off the next pair purchased was the best they could do on a $165 pair of shoes. Go to REI and avoid the hassle. read more

Hoka hiking shoes were purchased 4/27/26. I hiked in them once on Aug 8 in Bend. I live in Portland & couldn't make it back to Hood River until Sept 6 (a little over 4 months NOT 6 months!) My toe hit the end of the shoe on inclines (painful). I went to Footzone in Bend & was told Hoka hiking shoes run a half size smaller than Clifton 10 shoes. AI confirmed. The sales person at Shortt should have warned me but did not. Owner would not take the shoes back. Footzone in Bend, Footwise in HOOD RIVER & various other locations, Shoe Mill, Burches shoes all take back up to a year for any reason. Same thing with REI. I would recommend purchasing from one of these places rather than Shortt Supply! read more

Shortt Supply is a business to be avoided. This business changed ownership recently and it is not what it once was; an owner that stood behind their products and valued their customers. Last August I purchased a $150 pair of Topo Athletic shoes from Shortt. The purchase and fitting experience were exemplary. I have worn them occasionally since then approximately once a week for exercise walking. Recently I noticed that both shoes were abrading a hole at the same location on the inside collar. A call to the manufacturer directed me to the dealer to resolve the problem. On my visit to Shortt I was directed to the manager. It was clear from our first interaction that Shortt would not make any effort to resolve the defect in the product. To add insult to injury, after confirming that the shoes had not been subject to excess wear, I was told that I was at fault in my manner of walking despite 70 years of not having a similar issue with any shoe. No relief was offered. While Shortt has a wealth of excellent apparel, shoes and accessories at premium prices, they clearly have no interest in standing behind their products or making any effort at customer service. This is a business that knows it can overcharge tourists who will never be around to seek a remedy for a faulty product. There are several other reputable shoe options in the Gorge and you should give them your business. read more

For a neighborhood store, its impressive the amount of inventory they have, both in terms of variety and options within each category. First time I shopped here years ago was because I needed a good pair of walking shoes with arch and heal support. Those working here know what they are doing. They don't just recommend shoes, they fit you for the pair that best meets your specific needs and fits you properly. For anyone who has suffers from foot or knee pain, you know how life changing a properly fitted pair of shoes can be! In addition to a robust shoe, sneaker, running shoe, hiking boot area, Shortt's has all of your camping needs covered. Tents, sleeping bags, outdoor cooking equipment, dehydrated food, small cook stoves and more. They carry every color and size Hydro Flask and totes and coolers, too. Jackets, rain gear, hats, caps, swimsuits, sunglasses, clothing, waterproof pants and tops, maps, books - they have it all. The only section that I wish was more robust is the swim section. I swim an hour a day and while they had a few swimsuits, goggles and swim caps, I was looking for a mesh bag to carry my swim fins, gloves and goggles. They had three TYR bags but they were super bright neon colors and I want something more subtle. This is a family run business and they are all about personal service and as a result, when the store is crowded it can be challenging to get assistance because those working there definitely give full attention to the person they are widening with. It's worth the trade off. Definitely recommend. read more

I always love coming into Shortt Supply in order to actually try on shoes, be fitted and helped me with trying to find the right shoe. The other day I went in and Tammy helped me she was so kind caring and helpful. I have had a hard time finding the "right" tennis shoes for my feet and have yet to find them, but I always appreciate the time everyone takes to do their very best to help! read more

The old lady that was stalking the backpacking meal section at approximately 2 pm was extremely short, unhelpful and seemed extremely bothered by our presences. I'm not sure if she's new to the company, but I was shocked by her inability to have any customer service or basic manners at all. It seemed like she just wanted us out of their establishment. As an avid backpacker and regular customer I will NOT be coming back. read more

I am so glad I went to Shortt Supply for my shoes. I haven't had anyone measure my feet since the 60s, and it was a good thing, or I would have bought the wrong size. This was the best shoe shopping experience ever - I cannot recommend Shortt Supply enough. I tried on 4 or 5 pairs of shoes before I chose the best pair - and I love my Hokas! Also ... the price was the same as if I bought them from the Internet. read more

Shortt Supply - Department Stores Near Me - Hood River, Oregon

Karen Shortt, herself helped me with my issues with some foot pain. She was absolutely incredible, the amount of knowledge, the personable and relaxed attitude, and the incredible amount of attention and time she spent with me. My athletic life is drawing to a close, given age and injuries, however, the basic needs for foot ware will be filled through this store from now on. Thanks! PS. My interactions with other staff members has given me the impression that the customer service here is consistent throughout the store. read more

The best hiking boot fitting I've ever had. Extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

THE running store in the Gorge... amazing family business, excellent selection, and some of the nicest most helpful people you will ever meet. read more

The customer service was not great at all. For one I couldn't tell who was working there to ask a question. They were all just standing around except for the young lady at the counter doing all the work. The other thing was that another young gal that was working there rolled her eyes at us when she had to get a pair of sunglasses for us. Just thought it was rude. read more

I have an old injury on one of my feet that has progressively gotten worse. I went in to get some advice on shoes that would make my work days less painful. Karen was really helpful. She even helped me to fix the shoes that I currently have. My husband was fitted with a pair of Altras a few weeks ago, and it has changed his world. We will definitely be purchasing our shoes here from now on. read more

My partner and teen son were trying on shoes. She noticed they were last years model and asked if they were on sale. The owner, Brian Shortt, made a snide comment and belittled her in front of my son. This is not how you treat anyone, especially LOCALS! I just moved here last year and am well plugged into the rec community. It's apparently well known Brian Shortt has a Shortt fuse and is losing the locals. Chalk up another one. read more

Shortt Supply is what a neighborhood sporting goods should be. Brian and Karen have the answer to the "Big Box." They've created the ultimate "Small Box." Great selection of top brands. Knowledgeable, friendly staff who will spend time helping you get what you need. A+ read more

Stopped during a brief overnight while on vacation. Thoroughly impressed by the help and insight received buying a pair of trail running shoes. Brian Shortt was the epitome of knowledge and customer service - and just a great guy to talk to! read more

Solid store. They have all you could possibly need as far as running gear goes. They have lots of other stuff too, but I was only shopping for running gear so that is what I am basing my review off of. I did see some camping gear, snow gear, and hiking gear as well. I went in for running shoes and was having my feet measured within 15 minutes. Truly great service. I really wanted to try a specific brand that I had not worn before and they really listened to what I was needing and found me a great shoe in that brand! I am very happy about this. And the shoe was last year's style, so they gave it to me at 20% off. Saaaaa-weeeeet. Actually, they missed giving me the discount at check-out (I missed it too) and called me about 10 minutes later to see if I could come back in so they could make it right. That is SUPER awesome. They could have easily just gone on about their day. I was really impressed that they reached out to me to make sure I got my discount. Luckily I was just two blocks down the road and was able to come right back. They have a lot of really cute seasonal clothing. I noticed a lot of Columbia, Brooks, Nike, and lots of other brands. They had a pretty great sale rack going on too. I got a nice pair of Brooks pants for 50%. They just happened to be the pants I had been wanting! My trip to Shortt Supply really could not have gone any better. I am so glad to have a shop that carries that much great running stuff in the Gorge. This store is on par, if not better than, most of the running stores in Portland. I will be a repeat customer for sure. read more

Mark helped me find a wonderful pair of shoes to replace my... tragically worn out former pair... (I wear them till they run away on their own). He measured my feet from all angles and brought out a few pairs to try on... when I was stuck between two VERY different pairs... he sent me to walk outside on the sidewalk... In a purple shoe, and a white one. wow. That was a fast walk. I chose and he rung me up. Great experience. Everyone employed here is wonderful. read more

Customer service . The owner personally helped me size and choose the perfect pair of Brooks. Customer for life !

Decent selection and decent prices. I went here to pick up a race packet. It is worth checking out if you are in the area.

A fantastic customer experience, I was helped with choosing a pair of hiking shoes by knowledgeable, patient and positive staff, I never felt under pressure to make a purchase decision. I eventually bought a pair of Adidas shoes and got a little discount which was a great commercial gesture. Highly recommended read more

Good customer service if you get the right person. But you probably won't. They are constantly out of stock of typical sized clothes. They don't seem to care too much. read more

Worst service I've ever had. If there was anywhere, absolutely anywhere else in town to get running supplies I would gladly shop there instead. When asked whether my fiancé and I needed help after about 15 minutes of waiting, we replied yes a passed it off as it being a busy day. When the employee inquired whether we were next or the lady next To us who came in after us, another employee stated that we were first, but the other lady "smiled nicer, so maybe she should go first". We made their minds up for them and left. Won't go back there unless the only other option is running barefoot. read more

Incredible selection, service and prices! My family bought hiking shoes there and the guy who helped them (owner?) spent an incredible amount of time assessing their needs and recommending the right shoes. He wasn't trying to sell them the most expensive thing, just the shoe that would best fit their needs. read more

Possibly the best customer service I have ever experienced in a retail setting!! The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and helped guide us to make a great decision on a backpack. He helped my daughter get fitted and tested - above and beyond - gave us a sale price to boot. read more

I love this place. We visit Hood River annually and this is one of the best shops. The owners are knowledgeable and take time to explain gear and how things work. Today my husband was fitted for hiking boots and the proprietor spent so much time measuring, remeasuring and explaining all the different knot styles, why and when you would use them. He also looked at my laces and taught me two new tie styles that are proving to be much more supportive for my ankles without cutting circulation to my toes. read more

I ran the White Salmon Half Marathon this weekend. FORGOT my shoes, totally not a move I would ever do. Had to get the kids ready to go and cheer me on and forgot the shoes. Anyhow, at 9:00 got into Hood River, new about Shortt Supply Co and prayed they where open. THANK GOD for Patty!!! She arrived out front of the store at 9:40 am, race time started at 10:00 am. Patty let me into the store early and sold me a great pair of LaSportivas. Thank you Patty, Thank you Shortt Supply, you guys are awesome!!! Rod Schoene read more

My wife and I serendipitously stopped in Hood River for lunch and were walking through town when I saw an incredible vision of a running store that appeared to know what they were doing. When we entered were received great service by a very knowledgable staff. I would drive from Portland to go to this shop - Hands down the best running store I have ever been in. Thanks Much read more

A great experience! Brian and Karen are real people who care about their customers health. They put great detail in sizing my feet. I have had problems with foot, knee and back pain since I was a teenager. I'd been buying 13EE shoes for as long as I can remember but turns out, I should've been in 14D with heavy arch support. Brian brought out some shoes to try on and they felt amazing. I ended up ordering some in a different color. When my shoes came in, I took my wife and uncle down to be sized as well. We all ended up getting shoes and are very happy with them. It took about 3 days for my feet to get used to the arch support. Now my feet feel better than they ever have! If you have foot, knee, or back problems, or are looking for some athletic shoes and gear, give Shortt Supply a try! Thank you Brian and Karen! read more
