Shortt Supply is a business to be avoided. This business changed ownership recently and it is not what it once was; an owner that stood behind their products and valued their customers. Last August I purchased a $150 pair of Topo Athletic shoes from Shortt. The purchase and fitting experience were exemplary. I have worn them occasionally since then approximately once a week for exercise walking. Recently I noticed that both shoes were abrading a hole at the same location on the inside collar. A call to the manufacturer directed me to the dealer to resolve the problem. On my visit to Shortt I was directed to the manager. It was clear from our first interaction that Shortt would not make any effort to resolve the defect in the product. To add insult to injury, after confirming that the shoes had not been subject to excess wear, I was told that I was at fault in my manner of walking despite 70 years of not having a similar issue with any shoe. No relief was offered. While Shortt has a wealth of excellent apparel, shoes and accessories at premium prices, they clearly have no interest in standing behind their products or making any effort at customer service. This is a business that knows it can overcharge tourists who will never be around to seek a remedy for a faulty product. There are several other reputable shoe options in the Gorge and you should give them your business. read more

For a neighborhood store, its impressive the amount of inventory they have, both in terms of variety and options within each category. First time I shopped here years ago was because I needed a good pair of walking shoes with arch and heal support. Those working here know what they are doing. They don't just recommend shoes, they fit you for the pair that best meets your specific needs and fits you properly. For anyone who has suffers from foot or knee pain, you know how life changing a properly fitted pair of shoes can be! In addition to a robust shoe, sneaker, running shoe, hiking boot area, Shortt's has all of your camping needs covered. Tents, sleeping bags, outdoor cooking equipment, dehydrated food, small cook stoves and more. They carry every color and size Hydro Flask and totes and coolers, too. Jackets, rain gear, hats, caps, swimsuits, sunglasses, clothing, waterproof pants and tops, maps, books - they have it all. The only section that I wish was more robust is the swim section. I swim an hour a day and while they had a few swimsuits, goggles and swim caps, I was looking for a mesh bag to carry my swim fins, gloves and goggles. They had three TYR bags but they were super bright neon colors and I want something more subtle. This is a family run business and they are all about personal service and as a result, when the store is crowded it can be challenging to get assistance because those working there definitely give full attention to the person they are widening with. It's worth the trade off. Definitely recommend. read more

I always love coming into Shortt Supply in order to actually try on shoes, be fitted and helped me with trying to find the right shoe. The other day I went in and Tammy helped me she was so kind caring and helpful. I have had a hard time finding the "right" tennis shoes for my feet and have yet to find them, but I always appreciate the time everyone takes to do their very best to help! read more

The old lady that was stalking the backpacking meal section at approximately 2 pm was extremely short, unhelpful and seemed extremely bothered by our presences. I'm not sure if she's new to the company, but I was shocked by her inability to have any customer service or basic manners at all. It seemed like she just wanted us out of their establishment. I am so glad I went to Shortt Supply for my shoes. I haven't had anyone measure my feet since the 60s, and it was a good thing, or I would have bought the wrong size. This was the best shoe shopping experience ever - I cannot recommend Shortt Supply enough. I tried on 4 or 5 pairs of shoes before I chose the best pair - and I love my Hokas! She was absolutely incredible, the amount of knowledge, the personable and relaxed attitude, and the incredible amount of attention and time she spent with me. The best hiking boot fitting I've ever had. Extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

The customer service was not great at all. For one I couldn't tell who was working there to ask a question. They were all just standing around except for the young lady at the counter doing all the work. The other thing was that another young gal that was working there rolled her eyes at us when she had to get a pair of sunglasses for us. Just thought it was rude. read more

I have an old injury on one of my feet that has progressively gotten worse. I went in to get some advice on shoes that would make my work days less painful. Karen was really helpful. She even helped me to fix the shoes that I currently have. My husband was fitted with a pair of Altras a few weeks ago, and it has changed his world. The owner, Brian Shortt, made a snide comment and belittled her in front of my son. This is not how you treat anyone, especially LOCALS! Solid store. They have all you could possibly need as far as running gear goes. They have lots of other stuff too, but I was only shopping for running gear so that is what I am basing my review off of. I did see some camping gear, snow gear, and hiking gear as well. I went in for running shoes and was having my feet measured within 15 minutes. Truly great service. I really wanted to try a specific brand that I had not worn before and they really listened to what I was needing and found me a great shoe in that brand! I am very happy about this. And the shoe was last year's style, so they gave it to me at 20% off. Saaaaa-weeeeet. Actually, they missed giving me the discount at check-out (I missed it too) and called me about 10 minutes later to see if I could come back in so they could make it right. That is SUPER awesome. They could have easily just gone on about their day. I was really impressed that they reached out to me to make sure I got my discount. Luckily I was just two blocks down the road and was able to come right back. They have a lot of really cute seasonal clothing. I noticed a lot of Columbia, Brooks, Nike, and lots of other brands. They had a pretty great sale rack going on too. I got a nice pair of Brooks pants for 50%. They just happened to be the pants I had been wanting! My trip to Shortt Supply really could not have gone any better. I am so glad to have a shop that carries that much great running stuff in the Gorge. Mark helped me find a wonderful pair of shoes to replace my... tragically worn out former pair... (I wear them till they run away on their own). He measured my feet from all angles and brought out a few pairs to try on... when I was stuck between two VERY different pairs... he sent me to walk outside on the sidewalk... In a purple shoe, and a white one. wow. That was a fast walk. I chose and he rung me up. Great experience. Everyone employed here is wonderful. read more

Worst service I've ever had. If there was anywhere, absolutely anywhere else in town to get running supplies I would gladly shop there instead. When asked whether my fiancé and I needed help after about 15 minutes of waiting, we replied yes a passed it off as it being a busy day. When the employee inquired whether we were next or the lady next To us who came in after us, another employee stated that we were first, but the other lady "smiled nicer, so maybe she should go first". I love this place. We visit Hood River annually and this is one of the best shops. The owners are knowledgeable and take time to explain gear and how things work. Today my husband was fitted for hiking boots and the proprietor spent so much time measuring, remeasuring and explaining all the different knot styles, why and when you would use them. He also looked at my laces and taught me two new tie styles that are proving to be much more supportive for my ankles without cutting circulation to my toes. read more

I ran the White Salmon Half Marathon this weekend. FORGOT my shoes, totally not a move I would ever do. Had to get the kids ready to go and cheer me on and forgot the shoes. Anyhow, at 9:00 got into Hood River, new about Shortt Supply Co and prayed they where open. THANK GOD for Patty!!! She arrived out front of the store at 9:40 am, race time started at 10:00 am. A great experience! Brian and Karen are real people who care about their customers health. They put great detail in sizing my feet. I have had problems with foot, knee and back pain since I was a teenager. I'd been buying 13EE shoes for as long as I can remember but turns out, I should've been in 14D with heavy arch support. Brian brought out some shoes to try on and they felt amazing. I ended up ordering some in a different color. When my shoes came in, I took my wife and uncle down to be sized as well. We all ended up getting shoes and are very happy with them. It took about 3 days for my feet to get used to the arch support. Now my feet feel better than they ever have!
