Whenever I'm in Hood River I stop in Footwise to check out new styles and see what's on sale. I…read moreshop frequently at the Portland locations so I'm very familiar with the brands they carry. Having suffered from plantar fasciitis for years, wearing supportive shoes with arch support is critical for me. One day without, and the pain comes immediately back. Footwise carries Dansko, Wolky, Keen, Haflinger, Merrill, Josef Seibel, Birkenstock and more. Always lots of sandals in a variety of colors. Boots, sneakers and dress shoes, although the dress shoes really lack style imho. Make sure to check out the sale rack that is filled with the last shoe of a certain style. This means they may not have your size, but it's always worth a look since shoes are often 50-60% off. Today I found a pair of black, leather Dansko ankle boots for just $69. Score! Have a pair already that I paid full price for so I know they are comfortable and will get a lot of use. Located right on Oak, it's super convenient to stop in when downtown Hood River.

I would absolutely recommend purchasing from foot wise and if there's ever any issues which I ran into, reach out to the head of sales and she will make it right and. I can't say enough good things about how fast I was able to get a brand new pair of shoes which was mentioned to me a month prior about being sent out. I see some reviews about the management at Hood River but with those issues being persistent does pay off , especially with contacting the head of sales. Everyone has their days and being blown off is never right. Tracy was bar none the best fastest most compassionate owner of a small business I can imagine. I'm so beyond thankful for the customer service department on getting my issue resolved in just days!!

Shortt Supply is a business to be avoided. This business changed ownership recently and it is not…read morewhat it once was; an owner that stood behind their products and valued their customers. Last August I purchased a $150 pair of Topo Athletic shoes from Shortt. The purchase and fitting experience were exemplary. I have worn them occasionally since then approximately once a week for exercise walking. Recently I noticed that both shoes were abrading a hole at the same location on the inside collar. A call to the manufacturer directed me to the dealer to resolve the problem. On my visit to Shortt I was directed to the manager. It was clear from our first interaction that Shortt would not make any effort to resolve the defect in the product. To add insult to injury, after confirming that the shoes had not been subject to excess wear, I was told that I was at fault in my manner of walking despite 70 years of not having a similar issue with any shoe. No relief was offered. While Shortt has a wealth of excellent apparel, shoes and accessories at premium prices, they clearly have no interest in standing behind their products or making any effort at customer service. This is a business that knows it can overcharge tourists who will never be around to seek a remedy for a faulty product. There are several other reputable shoe options in the Gorge and you should give them your business.

First time I shopped here years ago was because I needed a good pair of walking shoes with arch and heal support. Those working here know what they are doing. They don't just recommend shoes, they fit you for the pair that best meets your specific needs and fits you properly. For anyone who has suffers from foot or knee pain, you know how life changing a properly fitted pair of shoes can be! In addition to a robust shoe, sneaker, running shoe, hiking boot area, Shortt's has all of your camping needs covered. Tents, sleeping bags, outdoor cooking equipment, dehydrated food, small cook stoves and more. They carry every color and size Hydro Flask and totes and coolers, too. Jackets, rain gear, hats, caps, swimsuits, sunglasses, clothing, waterproof pants and tops, maps, books - they have it all. The only section that I wish was more robust is the swim section. I swim an hour a day and while they had a few swimsuits, goggles and swim caps, I was looking for a mesh bag to carry my swim fins, gloves and goggles. They had three TYR bags but they were super bright neon colors and I want something more subtle. This is a family run business and they are all about personal service and as a result, when the store is crowded it can be challenging to get assistance because those working there definitely give full attention to the person they are widening with. It's worth the trade off. Definitely recommend.

It might have been because…read morein the Yelp category men's clothing is also listed but upon arrival here after looking around dow stairs and upstairs this is definitely a women's clothing store. Perhaps they had men's clothes at one point in time and they phased it out. Some stores do that. Or sometimes I bookmark businesses and the reason why I did that gets forgotten. But aside from that the merchandise is very nice and good shop situated in downtown Hood River. The clothing has kind of western style spin to it but in a classy, socializing way as opposed to western wear that is also work wear. Everyone that worked here was very nice and they had some very nice blankets that they had here for sale so that is also something to consider while out and about downtown.

Personally, I like that the staff allows me to wander without constantly asking me how I am or if they can help. I like to browse without pressure and when I am in Hood River, I browse more than purchase! I can't buy something in every store so I walk in and out of the shops and then determine what I can't live without. At Ruddy Duck, I have found and purchased unique handmade earrings, which is my style. I like wearing jewelry that no one else is wearing! On my last visit I found a great black and white boho maxi skirt that transcends all seasons. Especially like that the dressing room has the most spectacular view of the river! Great shop on my "route" whenever I am in the area.

I didn't like the original sleeves and the skirt was a bit short and this fabric genius was able to repurpose my ruffled sleeves to add 2-3 more inches to the bottom hem.

I recently had my dress altered and upon picking it up did not look right. After bringing it home I found a few apparent issues 1.The hem was white and my dress is various colors of green and cream (it did not come close to the original hem color and significantly stood out). 2.The corset added was not properly finished and caused terrible bunching in the back. I was truly upset since this dress is for my brother's wedding next week in Asia. I decided to go back and voice my concerns around the quality. When I returned, I let her know that I was disappointed with the quality and was immediately met with a very defensive demeanor. She said that I was mean and does not like working with particular people. She also said there are more important things in this world than to be worried about the color of the hem. She also was very clear to say she spent 3 hours and was angry of my lack of appreciation. To be clear, I paid $120 - this was not a favor, this was a service that did not meet any level of quality. I understand she did spend time on it however, getting defensive versus asking or understanding how we can rectify was never part of the discussion . From a customer perspective, I was shocked at her attitude and inability to accept or acknowledge my general disappointment or the mistakes made. She focused on her time spent on my dress and how I was just too particular. She then continued to let me know that she will not provide any services to me in the future and I am not allowed in her shop again. To be fair, she did offer to fix the zipper but was clear she would do nothing else. To be honest, I did not want her to touch the dress after the interaction and was concerned she might make it worse. I do know how to sew however, I was looking for a professional to make the alterations to my dress. Unfortunately, I did not interact with a professional from both a business and alteration technician/seamstress perspective. With that said, I have spent much of my day re-hemming and correcting the issues associated with the corset she added. I truly believe it is important to support our community and am saddened with the outcome of this experience. I do not recommend and would rather go to Portland than have another encounter like this.

Compared to the other…read moreboutiques on Oak Street, the prices here are far more reasonable and the clothes are mid range, not the current fashions and trends. And sometimes that's a good thing! They seem to cater more to an older crowd, at least that's the impression I got by the types of clothing they carried. Casual polyester print dresses, loose tops, slacks. Oversized t-shirts and tunics. Some denim. Big, chunky necklaces. Lots of bling. Not necessarily my style but I won't ding them for that. Was on the hunt for mother-of-pearl earrings for a friend. My friend had just purchased a beautiful mother-of-pearl necklace and since its her birthday this month, my goal was to find complimentary earrings. After going into all of the higher end boutiques - Twiggs, The Ruddy Duck, Chemistry Jewelry, Plenty - I decided to wander into Dream Street Boutique. Right on the counter were 2 displays of earrings and a beautiful pair with mother-of-pearl stones dangling over a silver teardrop. At $28, that was beyond reasonable and they are perfect! The right stone, a little dangle and classic silver. Sold! Was so happy to find exactly what I set out to get and can not wait to give them to my friend. While I was there another shopper came in and told the owner that one of the tunics she bought had pilled during the first wash. She mentioned that she shops there frequently and never had that issue with other similar tops. Without hesitation, the owner went over to the rack, picked a new tunic top, and handed it to the women without even going through the whole, "let me see your receipt and ring up an exchange" routine. She accepted the return in good faith and without any hesitation. Now that is customer service! So while the style of clothing doesn't match my personal taste, I still give 5 stars for the customer service, the reasonable pricing and the fact that there are women for whom this style does match, and they can have a great shopping experience here knowing the clothes are backed with a guarantee.

There's a wide selection to choose from including some shoes to handbags, PJs to coats, and glasses to belts. I especially love the pajama pants and got few for gifts!
