Just to start with the most pressing issue, I can't possibly be the only one wondering if there's a dead body hiding in one of the cars or trunks on the Super 8 side of the store. It smells SO AWFUL. If the stench is not coming from one of the cars parked along that side of the building, then it has to be coming from the building, itself. If there is not a dead body on the side of the Fred Meyer store, then they have some kind of seriously disgusting issue with rot or mold that literally smells like a dead body. There is NO WAY the employees haven't noticed. The checker assistants have to go over there to collect carts. I'm not exaggerating when I say it smells like something is dead over there. Someone needs to figure out where that smell is coming from. It's a health hazard on the basis of how bad it smells alone, but nothing smells that bad without there being a biological cause. It smells bad enough to merit three paragraphs. If it is an employee's car, this is one of those cases where they need to be written up for disgustingly unacceptable hygiene. There is no acceptable excuse for any area of a grocery store to smell like that. My second most pressing issue with this store would be the weights and measures. Is Weights and Measures like, not even a thing in Oregon? Because the sale tags at this Fred Meyer are wrong *more often than not*. They do a great job of putting tags up, but it doesn't seem to be anyone's job to take them down. I've been to this Fred Meyer a few dozen times, and it feels like I've caught at least one price error on every single visit. It's so bad that it almost feels intentional. You think you're getting low prices, and if you don't pay very close attention at the register, you might not even notice that such an incredibly high percentage of the sales tags are expired. I'm not saying this as someone who is angry with Fred Meyer. I still shop here. I've just stopped believing the sales tags. For example, a few days ago I was going to buy a bag of Nature's Path Peanut Butter granola, because it was marked down to $2.99. I even checked the tag to make sure it wasn't expired, and it wasn't. I actually like the chocolate flavor better, but it was $4 more. I specifically chose the peanut butter flavor because it was on sale. But even after I hit 'total,' the price was still $6.99. It's like the sales tag was just completely made up. Weights and Measures would have such a field day in this Fred Meyer store. I bet they could raise enough money from bin label error fines to pay for all kinds of community necessities. Third, the handicapped restroom in the women's room has a door that is impossible to lock, and it has been this way for at least sixteen weeks. I'm kind of hoping they get sued by someone in a wheelchair, at this point. That's so messed up to let sixteen weeks go by without fixing that. In case management reads this and decides to address the issue, they need to make sure the door can be locked by someone without much physical strength. If the door needs to be lifted up to lock, then it is absolutely not accessible. How would a person in a wheelchair lift the whole entire door up to get the latch to fit? I wasn't even able to do it with all my strength, and I tried pretty hard. I haven't had any issues with product quality or employee attitudes, as a lot of other reviews mention. The employees I've come across have been friendly, if it can be considered friendly to not care that most of your customers are being deceived and overcharged. So, like I said, I would still shop here, but carefully. Keep in mind that most of the sales tags are mythological. And don't park on the Super 8 side of the store unless you're able to hold your breath on your way to/from your car. read more

There needs to be something done about the rude employees!!!! My wife and I were there today February 15th between 330 and 4:30 pm. Wy wife was almost ran into 3 time by onshopping people going way to fast and can not even say excuse my. And 1 time by an employee pushing a shopping cart. They cut in front of you why you are trying to shop. Very rudely and do say anything just get there stuff and rudely walk away. They can not even ask if they can get in front of you they just do it. Stopped her to stock up on groceries while spending a week in Hood River. There is a Safeway in Hood River but I prefer Fred Meyers and I was driving out to The Dalles anyway. Fred Meyers is really one stop shopping. Groceries, clothing, housewares, garden supplies, seasonal, plants and even gas at their station. It was Friday the 13th of August, the day the mask mandate started again, and everyone was complying. After grabbing groceries, I stopped in the floral area to pick up some fresh flowers to brighten up the kitchen and bedroom of my rental. So many choices! Premade bouquets in vases of different shapes and sizes along with bunches of cut flowers in all price ranges. They had a section that was in sale, so I went for a $4.99 bouquet of yellow roses and a bunch of sunflowers fir just $4.00. Incredible prices! The rows of ceramic and glass vases caught my attention because they were so unique and also because a sign said 50% off. The prices were already low so I asked Brian, who was the gentleman working the florist counter. He confirmed they were in sale. I picked up a textured white mid-century mod helicon shaped vessel; a textured pale blue vase with gold metallic; and a white and cream tall vase all for a grand total of $10.97. I love this Fred Meyers!!! Went through self checkout which was fast. There is a Fred Meyer gas station across the street so filled up getting 20 cents off per gallon, and I was back on I-84 quickly, back in Hood River in just 12 minutes. if you have bottles and cans, they have a deposit center in the parking lot. read more

Their pharmacy is completely inadequate, at best. Besides the unhappy employees throughout the store - I hav purchased 7 items off the shelf in the past week that have had to be returned, a real waste of time. Also their pharmacy used to be convenient but I had an emergency scenario where the prescription was called in a night before I tried to get it. They received it at 5:30 PM on a weeknight, I called them in the morning and they said to rush it it would be ready at 3:30PM, she said they are two weeks behind and even though this was an emergency need - it would take until 3:30. I showed up at 3:30 and they said it would be another 30 minutes and because of my pain, I waited for 45 minutes. And I had to go up to the counter again after they processed many customers and I walked up to ge the attention of the pharmacist and she said it would be 1 minute. It was only another 5 minutes but after calling and waiting, they said they could not process the prescription and that was while they grabbed it and all I needed to do was pay for it. Their staffing is low at best and their respect for patients that need help is horribly insufficient. I'm going to Walgreens in The Dalles, they will listen to doctors urgency for medication and swiftly fill it. I called my doctors office and it was ready within 20 mintutes, that is how long it took me to drive there but it was ready with kindness even before I arrived. The whole store outside looks like a garbage pit and inside the shelves are empty with the coupons you get in the mail, they just don't carry those products anymore. The CEO gave himself a 26 million bonus during covid - why are we still shopping there: only for the employees who are badly treated and always kind. Think twice about going there unless you can steal because almost every time I am there the sirens sound for someone trying to take a cart out without paying - that takes over everything... Clean up and make your property safe - you've been gauging us long enough "It's not the economy - it's corporate greed" and unfortunately our friends working there get the harsh end of the stick. read more

This is the worst grocery store I've ever shopped from, and some of the most incompetent people I've ever met seem to flock for employment here. Not only did they lose my grocery order that I ordered from their site! But! They also refused to refund my $127.00 they deducted from my account with no groceries to show for it, on top of saying they're not responsible. The store manager was of no use, I'm surprised she was able to figure out how to fill out the application to acquire that position. Inventory recently has been very bad. Huge gaps on shelves throughout the store and it's been frustrating to say the least. Additionally this store has two self checkout areas in the front end but in the evening only one area is open and the fact that customers are lined up for a VERY LONG ways through the store waiting to pay for their items means nothing to them. The west side checkout is closed! This place is lackadaisically managed. And the most galling thing about the situation is both grocery stores in town are owned and operated by Kroger! So there's no where else to shop! If there was another competitor in town I'd be there in a heartbeat. read more

There are TWO Red Box. One at each entry. I feel like a lot of people don't know this. This FM is always so busy!! I wish there was another FM on the other side of town. Not because anything is wrong with this one, but TD needs more than one FM. With that being said, they handle the constant business well here. They always have things stocked well and they always have the appropriate amount of checkout lines open. No complaints. It is your basic FM and it serves its purpose. I am glad there is a clothing and shoe department up stairs. I am told that has not been there long...... it's nice to have because shopping in TD is pretty limited. read more

I have to say that these kids have some of the best customer service I've seen at the Clicklist department. It seems like they bust their butts all the time and those are a little behind sometimes or slow in getting orders out, their customer service is great hands-down. The people who work here are not morning people. We stopped in here at around 8:40 in the morning. We were fat and sassy from Cousin's and looking for our water supply for the car ride to Montana. There were a handful of people in this small Fred Meyer's. Not one of them looked up or said anything to us, that was fine until we said good morning to two of the women and they just looked at us, I don't mean we whispered it from isle 3 while they were in isle12. We were standing right there in front of them and nothing, crickets. I got my water, got in line, and not one word from the checker, even though I asked how her morning was. In the store today, and the lines to checkout were so long, including the one section of self-checkout stations that were operating. A large percentage of the customers were older retired folks. I am repulsed by the way the manager in the veggie section treats their employees. I have seen this time and time again. I don't know how the "rules" change per employee but it could be way better. Just this last time I was shopping I overheard a (boss?) With no empathy, against a employee for losing his mom. I have also seen the same behavior in portland oregon stores. This is probably the busiest place in The Dalles. I have lived here for over a decade now and I still can't believe at how busy this Freddy's gets. There are quite a few days when you cannot find a single place to park in any lot on either side of the building. I tried to go there last weekend to buy a couple of things and I had to park in the McDonald's lot next door, along with about 10 other people. The staff at this location is usually pretty good and helpful. I have gone early in the morning and taken in $25 worth of cans and they let me cash all of the tickets, even though the maximum is supposed to be like $7. There is definitely a lack of retail shopping in The Dalles considering how many people from all over the region come here to buy things. K-Mart, Bi-Mart, Fred Meyer and now Coastal are about it for non-grocery items. Even for groceries, it is Freddy's, Safeway and Grocery Outlet. I am not a big fan of Wal-Mart, but I will be happy if they build one here so I can find a place to park at Fred Meyer. I would prefer a Costco, but I don't think that will happen. read more

Like most Fred Meyers, they had a great selection of all sorts of items. A bit smaller than suburban Fred Meyers closer to Portland, but still good! While the downstairs grocery section was bustling, the rest of the store was empty and quiet except for the country music. Over in the household supply section, many items were covered in a thin layer of dust. They were out of ice, and it took a while to track down an employee to get more. Overall, A-OK! read more

I have shopped at Fred Meyer for 30 + years & have seen a lot of changes, some good, some not so good. This latest one is looking like maybe not so good. They have installed more self-check stations & while some folks think it is a good thing, most do not! I even asked a manager to call out more checkers one day because there were only three on the floor & all three were backed up to the aisles. Now that might not mean much to the people who work there, but to those of us who are standing & waiting (my time is as important as anyone else) it means a heck of a lot. Come on Fred Meyer, do you want to lose customers? Generally my choice for grocery shopping in The Dalles but the options are clearly a bit limited. Fair selection, challenging parking and average small rural options for produce, deli, hot takeout and meat case. The store is adequate but quickly pales when compared to Fred Meyer locations in many other communities and more progressive approaches in grocery found outside of The Dalles. read more

I have been shopping at Fred Meyer The Dalles, Or since 1993 and have never experienced rudeness except from customers who block the isles while visiting sessions with friends or?? Teen agers who wouldn't say excuse me if their life depended on it. If I ask an employee where an item is they take me to it not just point the way. At the check stands an employee will help me find the shortest line to go through and ask me if they may help me unload. Fred Meyer has always put the customer first, if they didn't they would have no business. As for my opinion Fred Meyer employees deserve all five stars and then some. read more

This review is from the point of view of an out-of town visitor looking for Deli food for a picnic: this Fred Meyer was difficult to find and awkward to get into from the direction we were driving. Once inside the store the deli was also challenging to locate. Salads looked fresh & delicious but fried chicken looked dry (during prime lunch time hours) pricing was high with no specials in site. I do most of my grocery shopping here. Probably 90% of what I buy there is in the beautiful produce section and natural foods department. Lovely, fresh produce and a great selection of organic fruits and vegetables. The natural foods section is amazing! Lots of specialty food ingredients that I use regularly. Great selection in the bulk foods section. As for the rest of the store, they carry a pretty good selection of toys, kitchen gadgets, clothing, garden plants, etc. The only complaint I have is the parking lot layout. It's horrible, poorly planned and built. I was hoping they would fix it when the store was remodeled and expanded, but they managed to make it worse. read more

This is my go-to store in TD. There are issues though, like the extremely stinky restrooms. I wrote Kroger corporate over a year ago and nothing came of it except a reply that they heard me. But obviously aren't doing anything about it. Otherwise the employees are fantastic. Treat them nice and they bend over backwards to help you. Super helpful. And their organic/natural foods section is the main reason I shop there. What I need is generally there and it's priced fairly. If I don't find it there I make suggestions for what I need or buy it at Roseaurs (sp) in HR. Or order it online. Once I told the employee in Produce about the molding ginger roots and the sparse supply of ginger in general and ever since they have big, beautiful ginger roots in abundance. read more

When I worked as cake decorator years ago, our customers came first! Today I asked the bakery manager if I could please get a 10" Chico round cake with white icing. She said NO. She said she would b doing some later and I could come back! NEVER would I EVER had told a customer that! It doesn't take any time to ice a single cake round and believe me I did a lot of that!
