Doesn't get any fresher than this! That's the sole plus for this place…read more You do need to be knowledgeable on prices though as I've seen items here and at other grower's fruit stands that are priced significantly higher than the very same items at your local market. Being a grower's stand does not automatically guarantee low prices. This is a family business that's been here forever. Not always the friendliest folks in my experience. I'm guessing there may be some built-in animosity towards "outsiders" since Maryhill is just a tiny burb off the beaten path. The locals may not be exactly in love with the big city folks coming from across the river. I like this area and as a photographer I've gotten a lot of good images over the decades. But if you're walking around it will only take a few minutes before the local "posse" comes along to see what you're up to. I've occasionally encountered some blatant hostility just walking on the public roadway taking pictures of the scenery. So.... good place to pick up some fresh fruit. Not exactly the nicest or friendliest people you are ever going to encounter. Perhaps they have good reason to be so inhospitable but me and my camera are not a threat to anyone so I don't especially appreciate the antagonistic attitudes.

On a recent Saturday in mid September, pumpkins were out in abundance, a welcome sight to say Fall is right around the corner. At one of the stands there were owls made from sliced tree trunks. Adorable! For just $15, I had to bring one home and put her on my patio. Lots of gorgeous heirloom and cherry tomatoes in vibrant red, yellow and orange. It's the season where everyone is giving me tomatoes from their garden so unfortunately I had to pass. It was difficult as they all looked sooooo good! The beautiful handmade greeting cards stopped me in my tracks. Unlike other cards with photographs of flowers, which are also gorgeous, this artist makes arrangements of dried flowers found locally, then prints onto the cards. The back of each card identifies the flowers and where they can be found. The cards are incredibly stunning, most in muted shades since the flowers were dried. For $2 a piece, I bought several! I'm forever sending cards as thank you notes or just to let people know that I am thinking of them. I have no doubt these cards will be well received. You can even frame them! If you come across this stand, buy 5 for an easy $10 And support this local artist. There was one bakery stall and they had many gluten free treats as well as keto. I went for the full on carrot ginger scone, with gluten and not in any way keto friendly. No regrets! Had me at ginger! The stand that sells a fresh salad mix and a fresh kale mix is a big hit. The leaves so tender as they are freshly picked that morning so with the kale, no need to massage To soften the leaves. Also lamb, jerky, a stand with a variety of pickled veggies. I'll definitely be back for a huge jar of gardenia selling for just $20. There was a stand with earrings and necklaces. Honey. Coffee. And of course apples and pears. Located in the small park on Union where "The Oregon Trail Ends," it is surrounded by roses bushes. This is a charming place to pick up your meats, fruit and veggies for the week. There are restroom facilities as well. Plenty of street parking. And a playground for the kids.

However, I was accosted by a market employee (volunteer?), telling me that my OBVIOUS service animal was not allowed in the food section of the market. I inquired about how people with service animals are supposed to purchase produce, and he aggressively informed me that SERVICE ANIMALS "aren't allowed" and that my dog isn't acting like a "service animal". I again asked my rebuttal, at this time he doubled down and demanded to know what service my animal was trained to provide, I should have just said "She provides a medical alert service", but I actually TOLD him the EXACT service that he provides. He did not believe me. I told him that if he had an issue with the service animal guidelines then he needed to take it up with the federal government. As I walked away crying, total public shame and humiliation, he continued to talk about me, to passersby, right in front of my companion. This was unnecessary, unkind and not legal. I would not ever return, nor would I direct any of my clients, friends, or family to frequent any event or establishment that humiliates people with handicaps and limiting medical conditions.

This is a third generation farm - their grandparents immigrated from Japan in the early 1900s. It's almost 300 acres and they've got apples, pears, peaches, cherries, berries, and probably more. The farmstand is open July through November. They've got a pick your own/U-pick options. They specialize in growing over 150 different varieties of apples, pears, cherries, and stone fruit. Their website is pretty up-to-date on which fruit are available at any given time. I really enjoyed stopping into the marketplace for a wide selection of pre-picked fruits, some of which had samples available. They were priced by weight and I was very pleased with the cost in the end ($12 for so many apples!).

And this orchard is so fun to visit in mid-October during harvest time. They have wagon rides, a big fort for kids, an apple variety tasting, and dozens & dozens of apples and pear varieties for sale. We filled up a box of cosmic crisps to take home, plus loaded up on a bunch of jugs of honey for the year - 3 lbs for $24 is a great deal. I also walked through the orchard and loved that they labeled all the rows of trees so you can see all the many varieties. They had apple cider and apples with caramel sauce as samples while waiting in line. While I'm disappointed that the apple tasting still costs as much as last year, the experience is otherwise great and I'll be back.

Some of their other customers told me to buy a frozen fruit pie, raving about how they taste homemade. I was tempted, but I wasn't heading straight home so I'll make a special trip for that when I'm entertaining or invited to dinner. They were out of fresh eggs, but I'm glad to know they carry them for when my egg dealer is out. Yes, that's what I call her! LOL. Once you start cooking with fresh eggs, there is no going back. They also have lots of pet and farm animal supplies, perennials and house plants. Plenty of parking out front, make Dickey's a stop anytime you are passing through Bingen on Hwy 14.
