I'm not making that mistake again! Dickey's is so worth the stop! Inside is so large and spacious. Lots of bins of fresh produce based on what's in season. Blackberries, peaches, blueberries, apples, corn, various greens, melons, green beans, strawberries to name a few. Plus all your produce staples like onions, potatoes, various salad greens, broccoli, spinach, shallots, lemons, limes, green onions, sweet peppers, hot peppers and more. Many of their their products are jarred for sale. They have several types of jams from local farms. Get the red-sour cherry and the marionberry! Oh, and the fig jam, so good with prosciutto on pizza or a crostini. They have lots of Dickey's pickled veggies, too: beans, garlic, asparagus, carrots, giardena. And so many salsas with various fruit. Don't forget to pick up a jar of local. honey - they have all sizes and the prices can't be beat. Very nice selection of local wines, too! Some of their other customers told me to buy a frozen fruit pie, raving about how they taste homemade. I was tempted, but I wasn't heading straight home so I'll make a special trip for that when I'm entertaining or invited to dinner. They were out of fresh eggs, but I'm glad to know they carry them for when my egg dealer is out. Yes, that's what I call her! LOL. Once you start cooking with fresh eggs, there is no going back. They also have lots of pet and farm animal supplies, perennials and house plants. Plenty of parking out front, make Dickey's a stop anytime you are passing through Bingen on Hwy 14.

This place has tons of them, basically all of their products, all on a table right in front of the store. Before even taking a step inside, I had basically filled myself with jams, butters, and pickles! We ended up only buying an empanada on this trip, although I was sorely tempted at filling my entire pantry with their jams and jellies, not to mention their pies... If only we had a cooler with us... Huckleberry Empanada ($6.50) - Their huckleberry jam is the best of the ones I've tried. Other places in Oregon, on the Fruit Loop and off, have a dried fruit kind of taste or lean musty in flavor. This one has full bodied huckleberry flavor that's quite fresh. It may be due to them using a different variety of huckleberry? Anyways, it's filled inside an expertly baked outer crust that holds the filling in well and adds some buttery crisp, pie crust like texture. I really enjoyed my visit to Packer Orchards & Bakery. Out of the 7 or 8 stops we made on the Fruit Loop, this, along with their farm location, ended up being my favorite by far.

This is a third generation farm - their grandparents immigrated from Japan in the early 1900s. It's almost 300 acres and they've got apples, pears, peaches, cherries, berries, and probably more. The farmstand is open July through November. They've got a pick your own/U-pick options. They specialize in growing over 150 different varieties of apples, pears, cherries, and stone fruit. Their website is pretty up-to-date on which fruit are available at any given time. I really enjoyed stopping into the marketplace for a wide selection of pre-picked fruits, some of which had samples available. They were priced by weight and I was very pleased with the cost in the end ($12 for so many apples!).

(they do animal protein as well) The cafe's healthy offerings of such are the main reason we go there regularly. We had a fantastic experience! As a team, Anna and Finley prepared a breakfast for us that accommodated for my food allergies. We had a modified veggie bowl, a pancake platter, and a couple of sides we paid for. We would not ask for this during a busy time, but it was early. We also had great coffee and a well prepared smoothie. Anna worked with us on the order and recorded everything accurately. Finley created the most artistic, beautiful, and possibly most healthy breakfast I've had in Hood River. I could not be any happier with the presentation, flavor, and value of the breakfast that they prepared for us. This is one of the few dining experiences in Hood River that is actually worth the money. We'll keep going back for that same quality. Thank you again.

Service was very friendly at the kitchen and they took our order quickly. Then you grab drinks/chips from the cooler area and pay at the cashier (he was extremely grumpy). Sit at one of the indoors outdoors tables and the bring your lunch to you. I had the Italian which has a very small spoonful of pesto on it. He had the BLT that was swimming in mayo! Somewhere in between of beans th sandwiches would be good. Some lettuce and tomato on the Italian would be good also. They are large sandwiches though and we ended up taking half of each home for dinner.
