Shortt Supply is a business to be avoided. This business changed ownership recently and it is not…read morewhat it once was; an owner that stood behind their products and valued their customers. Last August I purchased a $150 pair of Topo Athletic shoes from Shortt. The purchase and fitting experience were exemplary. I have worn them occasionally since then approximately once a week for exercise walking. Recently I noticed that both shoes were abrading a hole at the same location on the inside collar. A call to the manufacturer directed me to the dealer to resolve the problem. On my visit to Shortt I was directed to the manager. It was clear from our first interaction that Shortt would not make any effort to resolve the defect in the product. To add insult to injury, after confirming that the shoes had not been subject to excess wear, I was told that I was at fault in my manner of walking despite 70 years of not having a similar issue with any shoe. No relief was offered. While Shortt has a wealth of excellent apparel, shoes and accessories at premium prices, they clearly have no interest in standing behind their products or making any effort at customer service. This is a business that knows it can overcharge tourists who will never be around to seek a remedy for a faulty product. There are several other reputable shoe options in the Gorge and you should give them your business.

In addition to a robust shoe, sneaker, running shoe, hiking boot area, Shortt's has all of your camping needs covered. Tents, sleeping bags, outdoor cooking equipment, dehydrated food, small cook stoves and more. They carry every color and size Hydro Flask and totes and coolers, too. Jackets, rain gear, hats, caps, swimsuits, sunglasses, clothing, waterproof pants and tops, maps, books - they have it all. The only section that I wish was more robust is the swim section. I swim an hour a day and while they had a few swimsuits, goggles and swim caps, I was looking for a mesh bag to carry my swim fins, gloves and goggles. They had three TYR bags but they were super bright neon colors and I want something more subtle. This is a family run business and they are all about personal service and as a result, when the store is crowded it can be challenging to get assistance because those working there definitely give full attention to the person they are widening with. It's worth the trade off. Definitely recommend.

Perhaps they had men's clothes at one point in time and they phased it out. Some stores do that. Or sometimes I bookmark businesses and the reason why I did that gets forgotten. But aside from that the merchandise is very nice and good shop situated in downtown Hood River. The clothing has kind of western style spin to it but in a classy, socializing way as opposed to western wear that is also work wear. Everyone that worked here was very nice and they had some very nice blankets that they had here for sale so that is also something to consider while out and about downtown.

We stayed in the city and took a day trip to hike in the nearby Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. We stopped by this outlet mall to pick up some items for hiking. For example, someone bought a shirt from the Columbia Factory Store and another person got shoes (sneakers) from Famous Footwear Outlet. This outlet mall is conveniently located right off I-84 exit 17 (Marine Drive / 257th Avenue) in Troutdale, Oregon. Troutdale is a suburb of Portland. The two cities are about 16 miles apart and both are located in Multnomah County. The outlet mall is about halfway between Portland and where we hiked (Wahkeena Falls). Great location for what we needed. Columbia Gorge Outlets is one of the smaller outlet malls I've visited. The size and look of it is more akin to a typical American suburban shopping center than a sprawling outlet mall. In terms of appearance and amenities, it was pretty standard. Before heading out, a few of us used the restrooms by the mall's offices on the south side of the property. Overall, the property was clean and expectedly peaceful and quiet during our visit on a Friday morning around 10:38am.

We had friendly interactions from staff members in the all the stores. We also went to the food court on second floor, which was underwhelming compared to rest of the mall. The dining space had old tiles on the floor, the chair and tables were basic ones. There were 10-12 stores available offering a variety of cuisines. The food was decent from couple of stores we tried. Prices were little bit expensive. Overall we had wonderful half day spent shopping and dining at this mall. There was a good mix of popular and luxurious brands, offering wide range of products. The food court could use some facelift to match with rest of the wonderful interior of the mall.

This mall is clean, safe and perfectly maintained. There is a model train museum that our grandsons enjoy visiting. The folks that run it are wonderful.
