My brother and I took our mother here for Mother's Day and had a horrible experience. We waited almost an hour and a half and never got our food. During that time our server hit us with "just a few more minutes" or "15 more minutes" a handful of times, usually accompanied with an excuse. A little over an hour after being sat, I asked some one who looked like a manager at the host stand to check on our food and told them what we had been going through. They came back back with "15 more minutes" and an apology. We then left, like I said we would. Was really bothered that they didn't even attempt to try and make it right after all of that even as we were leaving. I still have a bad taste in my mouth about the whole ordeal and don't plan on going back. read more

This place was such a disappointment. We were in town visiting family and we all came here to eat. The service was horrendous. In total it took 2 hours to get our food that WE HAD TO ACTUALLY SERVE OURSELVES. Someone brought it out on the tray and layed it down on the patio and after 10 minutes we figured out it was ours so my husband served all of us. While waiting for an eternity after we ate for the bill my daughters leg got cut open by the gate on the patio. When I told someone they offered to give me hand sanitizer or alcohol to clean it up... to which I said Um that would hurt no thanks. The lady then walked over to the table where my kid was already crying took a look at her leg and said "oh gosh honey you're gonna need to go to the ER that looks bad. That's why we don't play by the gate" excuse me, you don't say that to a kid ever and then get after her for YOUR gate slicing her leg open. There was no manager and only 3 servers and a old lady hostess who needs to learn to keep her mouth shut. Our waitress didn't know how to print or run the check and that in itself took 25 minutes and my brother in law trying to figure it out on his own. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant in my life. Do yourself a favor and bypass this one, oh and stay away from the gate that cuts legs open. The food was cold, and not even correct when we got it. And the service was so unprofessional and tacky I have no clue how they are still in business. Stopped by after visiting the Copperhead Mountain Distillery next door. I honestly wasn't very hungry just yet but my friends both were. We were greeted by two friendly hostesses and quickly got a table in the bar. The booth was comfortable and I liked the number of tvs and various basketball games playing. The bartender came over shortly and told us about the soup and sandwich specials of the day. He then brought our drinks and was helpful in explaining the menu and answering our questions. My friend got the fried pickle appetizer which was enough for a lunch. She didn't like the mayo based dipping sauce but had the bartender bring ketchup instead and she was pleased. She liked that both dill chips and bread and butter gherkins were included in the dish. My other friend got the French onion soup and very much enjoyed it. I ate just a side salad which was actually fairly good. The veggies were crisp and quite a few were included. The lettuce was fresh and it was topped with a little shredded cheddar cheese. I enjoyed the dressing the most - apple cranberry vinaigrette - it was a sweet addition to the salad. I would return and get real food because the sandwiches from people around us looked delicious. read more

Our 2nd time eating at Shortfields. The 1st time was awesome. I had the pork chop which was perfect. This time I wanted fish but not Salmon. The chef prepared a special Mountain Trout gluten free for me and it was absolutely AMAZING! We live on the other side of town so a bit of a drive for us but I would make that drive just to get that dish again. read more

I have eaten here several times and it was good but today was a totally different experience. Our waitress was inattentive and the food wasn't as good as usual. When we got our bill (after waiting 10 minutes for it) I noticed that I had been charged for a milk separate from the kids meal I had ordered for my son. When I asked our server she said that milk wasn't included on the kids meal because it was "expensive". I asked for a menu and showed her that no where on the kids menu did it say milk wasn't covered and I asked to talk to the manager about it. She went and checked and said the manager was too busy to come talk to me. Offered to refund the money but I still can't believe that the manager was too busy to take care of a guest. First time at this restaurant and came away disappointed. Cuban sandwich quite greasy and fries were tough as rubber. We could see kitchen from our table, neither cook wearing hair nets and one had a beard not covered. One positive, service and atmosphere was good. read more

I went with my son and granddaughter for lunch and was very happy with our food. The burger i was served was the best Id ever eaten. My sons salad with chicken was huge and very tasty too ....had to take it home in a doggy bag cause it was so huge and the dressing was home made and awesome.my grands chicken and fries were a child's menu option but also very Hearty portion. We were hired to play music at this restaurant. We were told the budget was small, and so we accepted a small amount with dinner as compensation. That night, we found out the other bands were being paid 4x more than we were, and dinner doesn't include a drink. To top everything off, we were never actually paid, and repeated phone calls have not been returned. I recommend anyone considering this place for dinner take their business elsewhere. read more

Very nice place. I made reservations but really didn't need to. The server seemed a little rushed but after explaining that my date and I wanted to have a slow nice dinner, she was very compliant. Took my 92 year old mother to meet old friends. Sat in the bar as we were not having food. Did spend $50 on appetizer and 6 drinks. At 5 minutes of 7 told we needed to leave as table was reserved for a party. (Reserved sign was put on the table at moms request when I took her to the rest room before our friends arrived). I got the message and asked our server to bring the bill. Rude staff member (not server) thrust the bill at us. I had a full glass of wine that I was ready to split with my friend. Wasn't even given a minute to finish. Will never go back. This place will be empty when competition arrives. The whole thing could have been handled with a small amount of finesse. read more

Friday night we headed out for dinner trying to decide between The Peddler or Shortfields. We opted for Shortfields and so glad we did. We both had the Rainbow Trout with mushrooms and I must say it was the best trout I have ever had. It came with roasted potatoes, and sautéed vegetables - squash and zucchini. Service was ok, somewhat over-attentive, hard to have a dinner conversation with such constant interruptions. Ordered filet mignon medium-rare-it was cold in the center it was so raw. Great experience from start to finish! I was greeted by a friendly hostess and seated in a booth. Our server promptly greeted us and told us about the special for that evening. It sounded delicious but I really wanted to try the trout that I had heard so much about. So I had the trout and my husband had the double pork chop. They were so delicious that we ended up sharing! Heads up foodies! TRs Shortfields meets downtown Gville's fine restaurants weighing in at 1/2 the cost. Service, upscale casual neighborhood ambience and prices- all great. My guy said his porkchop was delicious, the root vegetable hash (sweet potato, potato etc diced and well seasoned) was unique and comforting He devoured the bacon seasoned collard greens. Dinner salad-fresh,delish, & large- we split it. 2 sides included w entree. First visit I had the grouper - it was most excellent - they bring it in fresh & wild-caught twice/week, My grouper was equal to the $$$$ places in "GVegas" . Thursdays the fresh fish for the weekend special swims in. Shortfields hamburgers? Over the top-they pay 3.50/lb for that beef. The coleslaw, salad dressings and desserts? Made FROM SCRATCH on site. They are killing me with mm mm good!. We hit HH- 2.50/Yeungling - always a great pairing w whatever "ales" ya.. Cozy booths PLUS they take reservations. Shortfields has heart - I found out they cook 400 meals a day for 4 children's homes in the county. The upscale outdoor patio with acoustic talent on weekends is vanilla custard in the donut, Baybee. We tried this place when it first opened and were not impressed, so decided to try it again since we had a coupon. We ordered the Jalapeno Pimento Cheese Dip to share. I had the Almond Crusted Chicken Strip Salad (Mixed Greens, Apple, Pear, Blue Cheese, Red Onions,Oven Dried Tomatoes, Corn Bread Croutons, Apple Cranberry Vinaigrette) My husband ordered a pound of the Kickin' Chicken Wings (Garlic Ranch). While the pimento cheese was good, it was very mild, and we were expecting a bit if a kick. We did not even see any jalapeno in the pimento cheese dip. My salad consisted of mostly greens, close to 4 cups, about 1/8 cup of the apple/pear/blue cheese/red onion mix with no oven dried tomatoes and cubed soft, crumbly cornbread, not cornbread croutons. My husband's wings were mediocre at best. The wine and beer were good. We won't be back. read more

This place was not good at all. My wife and I went there over the weekend and it was not worth our time. Parking is awful as parking spaces are in short supply. Once inside, we were seated and the conditions were cramped to say the least. They have tried to put way to many tables and chairs and booths in a matchbox setting and it causes you to constantly but bumped into or having to slide our chairs in as far as they will go to the table to keep from being in the way of waiters. After we made our drink orders and food orders, several other parties had came in and were seated. After about 20 minutes the waiter finally came back and gave us bread and said he was sorry it took so long. After another 20-25 minutes we still didn't have our food which was, by the way, a half a tuna sandwich and a cup of soup and a turkey burger and fries (this shouldn't take this long). In the meantime, the other customers had already received their food and were halfway finished. After telling a DIFFERENT waiter (because ours was nowhere to be found) we needed the manager we finally got him. He came over and we told him we needed our food to go and about our service and wait times and we wanted our food to go. Needless to say our food came out UNBOXED. The waiter asked if we needed it boxed and we said we did so he brought boxes and told us the manager said it was "on him" and walked off. Once home, our food was awful. My turkey burger was raw on the inside from being rushed. In the end, this was a spot for poor service, low quality food, high prices, and overall no attention to patrons. I was looking forward to a nice dinner but didn't get it here. It was an early supper 7/19/18 Not too many people in restaurant - it was 5:00pm. It started off with maybe a new waitress not sure or perhaps she just wasn't interest in being at work. She had to be told to wait on us and then disappeared. A different girl put in the rolls for us and came back to let us know which was great for her to do that. The waitress reappeared to bring the salads (the entree brought by a different person). Our waitress disappeared again - so not attentive at all. The FLIES - Seriously - I really don't ever remember having an issue with flies before at any restaurant we have ever gone to. We dined inside - there was an army of them (no joke). It was sad and comical at the same time. My husband and I were fighting off the flies so we could eat our salad - they won - I couldn't finish it - they landed. UGHHHH. The trout was flavorful and cooked very well. The experience left me feeling quite ill and we both agreed to never go here again. read more
