Food was good , too bad Alyssa, the waitress was so rude, and for no reason. I had a draft beer, Greek Salad and a pick-3 platter. The 2 sliders were the size of a regular burger. No toppings but the patty and bun were good. Likewise the 2 wings and 3 chicken quesadillas, with 3 yummy sauces. Great value for 12.00. I told Alyssa we were sharing. A good waitress would have brought extra plates and since it's finger- food, more napkins. When I told her there was a bug in my beer, she shrugged. I didn't expect anything but she could have been less flippant. She did ask if I wanted a takeout box, but she brought a tiny box for a whole plateful of food. UJ used to be our very favorite spot. We went nearly every week for almost 10 years. But recently our menu favorites started changing or disappearing. RIP pimento cheese dip and ciabatta bread. Farewell old 1-2 burger. At least we still had UJ fries. Until tonight. The Monterey cheese was replaced by I don't know what but it made soggy fried even soggier- and they added raw onions too. Universal joint was an overall good experience. Good ambience with plenty of parking. The food was delicious, with pretty generous serving sizes. I got the "u joint burger", served with sweet potato fries. The burger was delicious, cooked to my liking. This is a great place to come with friends, with plenty of tvs and drinks on tap. The only complaint is that it is on the more slightly expensive side. One burger with fries and an ipa ran me $30, including tip. Other than that, universal joint is a classic for anyone looking for good vibes and a good bite. read more

Came here with some friends for a lunch. They were busy but we were lucky enough to find a table. The food is good and pretty unique imo. It wasn't just regular burgers. Heard good things from friends and had a cool interior. Brunch on Sunday runs until 3pm. We wanted burgers not brunch but unfortunately the only burgers on the menu were a slider special. Boyfriend opted to try them and said they were decent but nothing great. I opted for the breakfast plate - scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, simple right? Nope. Eggs were not completely scrambled and were overcooked and burnt like they had been precooked and reheated. But they were somehow also cold. Potatoes were soft and flavorful but slimy from grease and overloaded with onions and somewhat cold as well like they also had been precooked and reheated. Bacon was ok but not great.. but only palatable thing on the plate. Service was also strange as there were 2 people waiting on us, but both seemed off their game or new or something. Pleasant evening so took my hubby, Mr. Particular. He had fish and chips and the fries were quite good. An extra container of tartar cost extra. (?) I had edamame which was piping hot and the brisket nachos. No outstanding flavor in either. Nachos were on a bed of some sauce so were soggy from the get go. The beer was good and cold; the server Katie was attentive and pleasant. There was an exotic animal rescue group there with a snake, an alligator and a cockatoo. They did NOT force the animals on us but the cockatoo's screeching was not relaxing! And we selected a table in a shaded area which unfortunately was too close to the nondesignated SMOKING AREA. DEAR lord. I STILL can smell that stench! It would be better if the industrial ash can could be located DOWN THE STEPS from where patrons are trying to enjoy culinary respite!! Atmosphere is everything, and this place has it. Exposed brick with industrial elements make this former garage super trendy and fun. They have outdoor seating as well as old wood booths and even a bar to sit and watch a game. Our server, Michael, was very attentive and friendly. He was knowledgeable about the menu and answered every question we had. We wandered in on a Sunday around 2, and he told us we still had time to order off the Brunch Menu. The AVACADO TOAST IS TO DIE FOR! Just get it! My husband ordered a beer and I had a Firefly Lemon Drop Martini with sugared rim. I had the Brunch Burger, served with bacon and egg on top with tater tots. My husband had the Brisket Hash. We got their brisket nachos at Fall For Greenville for 8 tickets ($8). It only consisted of a whole lot of tortilla chips with very tiny amounts of beef, beans, corn, jalapeños and queso dip. Maybe half a cup! So disappointing. I realize that small portions are sold at Fall for Greenville but they should be selling something besides a bunch of tortilla chips to try to win business from hundreds of people that are trying their food there for the first time. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. We go here multiple times a week sometimes, and this restaurant is easily one of the best places to go if you want a great patio and atmosphere. They have delicious and creative weekly specials, but my usual go-to is either the Turkey Pita Club or Steinbeck Burger. read more

Disclaimer: I think a 3.5/5 stars is a more accurate reflection of my review for this restaurant. I've heard a lot about this place and heard people rave about it for awhile so I wanted to come check it out for burgers. We ordered the wings, which ended up having to be smoked instead of the normal wings. They were actually pretty good for smoked! Usually they're super salty but these were cooked well. The seasoning, I was not a fan of but we had a side of Buffalo sauce so it worked out well. The wings were pretty good and I would get them again. I thought the texture and how they fell off the bone was amazing. I ordered the Steinbeck burger and my boyfriend got the mushroom and Swiss. The Steinbeck was ok but I felt that the burger could have used more sauciness or condiments to make it more juicy without defaulting to ketchup. My boyfriend didn't really taste the mushroom or Swiss. Overall, an underwhelming experience, although the atmosphere was perfect for getting a couple beers. I don't think I'd come here for the food, but rather for the drinks and atmosphere. read more

Burgers are delicious!!! I like the Smashburger and love the wings. My sis gets the Smokehouse burger Every time we go, which is almost every weekend... literally. Hummus plate is delicious and I like the pimiento cheese bc it doesn't have a lot of mayo in it. Service is friendly. They like dogs and kids too. Atmosphere is chill and relaxing. We went for lunch on a pretty day. Great outdoor seating and the service was excellent. My husband had a burger that he said he would get again. I have a sandwich, it was not bad but I would try something else. I definitely recommend this place and I will be back. After closing on our new home yesterday my wife & I decided to celebrate with a couple pints and some appetizers. She had been wanting to try this place for a couple of weeks so we decided to see what Universal Joint was all about. I do wish it had gone better. So from jump street, the parking situation is rough. I get that getting in & out of businesses on Stone Ave/Laurens Rd is tricky business, but the hassle alone is a huge turnoff for me. There is a tiny parking lot behind the restaurant, and no side street parking. We ended up driving down the street to the bowling alley and parked there and walked back over. From there, I will say this restaurant's layout is very cool and the staff is very polite. We ordered a couple pints and the Buffalo Shrimp skewers and the spicy egg rolls. The flavors were very good, but for the price point, the portions are way too small. As an aside, I also got Buffalo sauce in my eye while eating the shrimp skewers but my wife said that was my own fault. We did follow up with the half order wings with tots and for 9 bucks that was a good deal and I liked the wings, so there's a bright spot. All told, I think I'm going to need to come back again and see how their entrees are and see if I can bump this place up another star. But between the parking situation and the small appetizers, three stars is the best I can do for now, but I'll be back. read more

Wanted to grab a good burger before leaving Greenville and came across the Universal Joint... let's start with the parking. It's a hassle. The lot is very small and there isn't a bunch of street parking available anywhere close. So I literally drove around for about 15 minutes before I was able to grab a spot as someone left. Despite the parking, the food is great! I opted for the burger, Old 1-2 style (LTO, American Cheese and million island sauce). The burger was cooked and seasoned well, but the million island sauce really brings it together... you want extra! I went with tots as my side because my server suggested them over the fries. It's the right choice my friends... just do it! Great restaurant, smaller space so I wouldn't recommend having a large group here.. Parking will be a nightmare unless you uber/carpool. read more

The atmosphere is nice, but any outdoor restaurant with seating close to the road is bound to have a good deal of noise from traffic. Food was good, but not incredible. I just got a basic cheeseburger, but I've had far better burgers in Greenville alone. I didn't get a great read on the staff- the person who brought out out food was nice, but the waitress taking our order originally was kind of short with us. We were out on an office lunch, so I suppose I was just hoping for someone a little more upbeat. Overall a middle of the road experience. Looks like a lot of people are passionate about this place, but I don't drink, so perhaps Universal Joint isn't entirely for me. read more

Consistency. Have you ever eaten somewhere and it's consistently good and sometimes even great? This is our spot. We have three kids, so dining options sans baby sitter are limited. We go early 5pm or so and have plenty of space. We've eaten here probably 10 times and never once had a bad experience. So impressed! It had been a while since we'd been here and it was suggested by friends who had never been. The food was fabulous! Hub said brisket tacos were tender and seasoned well. The sesame tilapia on arugula salad was one of the most tasty I've ever had. Our friends were equally as impressed with the burger and shrimp po boy. At the suggestion of our very helpful server I tried the Fat Tire Belgian White and found a new favorite. Service was excellent. Parking here is no longer an issue with a parking lot behind the restaurant. Tuesday is trivia night. Fun place! read more

Was highly disappointed when I went here last night. I'm moving out of state and wanted to have a going away beer with a friend. Drove by Universal Joint and saw they had tables outside, nicely spaced apart. Unfortunately that good intention goes out the window when you still force people to go inside to place an order, or pay your bill. Upon going inside you're greeted with a cramped space where tables are right next to each other and people are shoulder to shoulder at the bar. You're handed a menu that isn't even a temporary one so that everyone's hands have been all over it before yours. Sure the staff are wearing masks but that's the extent of it. You need to do better if you care about the well being of your patrons! read more

This place can get really busy on evenings but its for a reason! The service, food, drinks, and atmosphere are great! Local beers at good prices, huge burgers, vegetarian options, and tons of fried goodies. Our server was so busy and still made us feel important and cared for. I enjoyed my Steinbeck burger with bacon and a local sour from Charleston, it was so good! I love that the offer tots instead of fries, Napoleon would be proud. I wish I knew a little more about the burger meat they use, it didn't seem well seasoned and lacked flavor without all the toppings. I think this is somewhere they can improve. Universal Joint doesn't have a parking lot so TIP: park across the street to the left of the house where the open lot is. The UJ people can help you find it. read more

We were excited to try out this place and settled for some bar seats during a Saturday night dinner rush. Unfortunately, this gave us a front-row view of how unhygienic the bartender was when making our drinks; she would drop fruit on the spill mat and throw it back in the drinks, sticking her fingers inside the drink in the process. She also dropped cocktail glasses and used the same ones to serve clients. We also got to watch her scratch her armpits...and decided that one round of drinks was enough. We've had HORRIBLE service here twice now. My parents and little brother were visiting from out of state (we just moved here), so we decided to take them to a casual dinner at UJ. Our waitress was SUPER rude and condescending from the moment we sat down. She acted as if our presence there was ruining her life, and the restaurant was not busy at all. My dad had some questions about the menu since he'd never been before and she straight up rolled her eyes at him and gave him one word answers. We still gave her a really good tip because hey, maybe she was just having a bad day. The second time we decided to call in an order for pick-up. Whoever took our order was INCREDIBLY rude, probably the same waitress as before but not sure. We had to make some changes to the order and she scoffed, and said "WELL I GUESS I'LL PUT YOU ON HOLD SINCE I HAVE TO DELETE THE ENTIRE ORDER AND CHANGE IT NOW." Universal Joint has a Greek twist on a lot of their menu items. We started off with the Universal Joint fries which has cheese, bacon and homemade ranch. These were very delicious. The ranch was incredible. We also had the pimento cheese which was good, it came with roasted red peppers, bread, and some other vegetables. My my meal I had the fish tacos which came with chips and salsa. The fish tacos were great. They were cooked very well and had a spicy aioli sauce with them. It was a little spicy but was not too overbearing. The atmosphere of this place was neat and they had a lot of TVs. They also have board games! read more
