We hired Shorebreak to remodel our bathroom after we had two water leaks that left our bathroom in shambles. We originally had a few contractors bid, and Chris' expertise and experience convinced us to hire Shorebreak even though they were not the lowest cost option. Everything was permitted, and the team mentioned what was needed to get the bathroom up to newer codes in HB that some of the other bids did not mention. As we went through and decided on fixtures, tile and had questions about layout, the team was very helpful. We did make a few layout changes that led to change notices, some of which were a little pricey, but the team did explain in detail what changed and explained the cost to our satisfaction. Had a really great experience working with Chris and his crew on our house that we chose the team again for work on my Mother's bathroom remodel. Wanted to add a shower to the first floor half bath. The first contractor said he would only do it if there were no permits involved. To me that was a red flag. Chris came in and gave us a bid and was able to manage expectations. He provided some great ideas as we were looking to also incorporate ADA concepts into the design. His bid was not the lowest and being in sales I've learned you get what you pay for. I totally feel we got full value from the team's expertise as there were a couple of hiccups that came along the way. They had to move the washer and dryer in the garage and had to move the water lines going into the house. The team also had to install a beam as a wall they removed was load bearing. They demonstrated amazing creativity with the tile work as the beam presented a challenge. After watching tons of HGTV shows I was able to appreciate how creative Chris and the team was able to handle certain nuances of the job that popped up. I also can't thank the team enough for their patience as I missed on certain essential parts/materials that pushed back deadlines. This time, our project included the removal of two walls and an entryway soffit, vent re-location and electrical in our living room. During the living room renovation we realized the previous owners drywalled over the original popcorn ceiling (surprise)! Since we weren't prepared to remove and replace all the ceiling drywall, we opted to 'float' the drywall where the two walls had been removed. This review is based off of the quoting process with Chris and Shorebreak as I was never able to actually use their services. Chris came out to quote some garage and wall repair and he seemed pretty knowledgable, if not a bit socially awkward. Nice enough guy and seemed to know his stuff, even giving us a packet of info at the end about types of licensing he has etc. He said we'd have the quote early the next week (about 5-7 days later). When I didn't received a quote early the next week, I texted the assistant and she said Chris was hoping to have it to me by the end of the week. Still nothing by the end of the week. I contacted her the following Monday and explained that it had been 3 weeks and we needed his quote by the next day or we'd have to go with someone else. She said she understood and would pass the info on to Chris. Nothing ever came. It's been four weeks now and still no quote. Obviously, we hired someone else. It's so bizarre because this packet of info Chris supplied us would suggest that he's pretty on top of his game but if you need work done relatively soon, forget it. They'll never get back to you. I don't need that kind of headache. **Update** Chris did call me the evening after I posted this review to apologize for the long wait and explain that they're very behind on quotes for many customers. I really appreciated this. However, when I met with him, he did say I'd have the quote next week and his assistant just kept telling me that I'd have it by the end of the week, next week, by Tuesday, etc. so she clearly wasn't communicating or understanding when I would actually have the quote. While I could have waited for the actual work to be done, I did need quotes so that I could choose who was going to do that work and who I would be waiting on. The fact that his assistant knew I was on a deadline for the quote (3 weeks later) and she just didn't get back to me when I didn't get the quote in time, is what really left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

About 3 weeks later still no reply. Reply from Shore break to my yelp post: Hello Bryan, I've reviewed all of the requests that have come through via Yelp and there is no record of you submitting a request. I also need to inform you that the job that you requested is not something that we do and is not listed on the services we provide. I can only assume that you are a competitor trying to hurt our Yelp rating just like the other two recent review. There is plenty of work to go around and we are disheartened that people have started to use this strategy to get a leg up. We implore you to make things right by removing this bogus review. My Reply to Shore Break: My initial quote request submission was through your website not through Yelp. Please also re read that I left a telephone message with your company, to which there was no reply. According to your website, performing work on load bearing walls is on of your "favorite" jobs, as my bay window is on an exterior wall I figured that would fall into that category. We absolutely loved working with Chris and his team. This is going to be a long review! So many wonderful things to say. They remodeled our master bath and kitchen and we LOVE how everything turned out. We also loved their process. (Excel sheets with every single thing broken out, and they thought of really important things beforehand -like extra electrical needed for inspection etc.) They also installed all new windows and sliding doors. Working with Robin was incredibly easy and she is always so responsive. She coordinates everything and is amazing. Mike, Edgar & Adrian were the three main project manager/team members and were great! Always on time (Mike is always early, which is the best). What I appreciated with the three of them, and Chris as well, is that they were always willing to think outside of the box. For a contractor, that is rare. It's always "I can or cannot do that", not "Let's see how we can make this work!" Which was exactly what their whole team was able to do. There was no trying to convince us to do something different because it was easier. Edgar is especially great at coming up with solutions. He solved a lot of puzzles for us haha. We had a strange bathroom to work with because of some work the previous owners did. To the point that I couldn't find ANY other examples of what we needed to happen on the web. Chris had no issues with it. Just said we'd make it work. His team was able to uncover the hidden window, keep our same layout but now with a tub/shower combo, and find a way to have shower glass that runs up the middle of our bathroom window, and it looks GREAT and is FUNCTIONAL. I stressed about how this would turn out the whole time haha because it was such a strange request. It came out 10x better than I expected. All other contractors we contacted tried to talk me out of what we wanted to do. Our bathroom turned out AMAZING and I'm so glad they didn't try and talk me out of anything. All of the third party people they work with use the highest quality materials. Brian who installed our tile is seriously amazing. His attention to detail is insane. The plumbers they use are super responsive, friendly, and great at what they do. We had two issues after install. They came out the same day to fix the issue, and everything has been perfect since! The only issues we had were with cabinets. Mainly due to COVID. The company they work with just had a lot of craziness going on with staffing and suppliers, so the cabinets took a lot longer than usual, and we had to be really on top of the 3D renders before signing off. The project took longer than estimated because of this. But the cabinets are beautiful and we are really happy with them. Plus, when we had an issue upon installation, Robin made sure they were held accountable for the work and communicated with them on our behalf and made it all come together. We didn't have to talk to anyone but Robin. Such a relief. It's been about 6 months since everything has been finished and everything is holding up amazingly well! We get SO many compliments on everything. So in Summary: (for people who don't want to read my very long review haha) Pros: - Great communication - Great team - Transparent and thorough pricing - On-time - Quality sub-contractors (plumbing, tile, showerglass etc.) - Flexible and Innovative - Quick to fix any issues that arise Cons: - Needed to put some pressure on them to stay closer to the timeline (Once we did that they worked REALLY hard to turn things around as quickly as possible) - The team at StoneAge (cabinets) needed LOTS of oversight and they were so slow to communicate with both Robin and myself. (I get why they use them, the cabinets are great, so hopefully this was just an understaffing issue and it's easier for them in the future). I have now worked with Shorebreak over two separate projects. I initially contacted Chris for an estimate at my mothers place for an outdoor shower addition a month ago. He responded immediately and provided a through estimate and was very transparent about his pricing structure. He was honest about some of the unknowns which I appreciated. I have worked with several contracting companies before and I really enjoyed working with Shorebreak because they were far more organized than most. From beginning to end, Chris communicated directly or had his office manager Robin communicate with daily recaps and upcoming work schedules. We had a few change orders and these were handled professionally- I was sent an updated docusign email listing the new work and pricing. No surprises. They managed to install the shower without needing to patch the smooth stucco which was great because that is very hard to blend once disturbed. He took extra thought in designing the approach to minimize the damage and patching. My second project involved framing a closet and a new opening for a pantry expansion under the stairs. Again Chris provided the estimate and listed the unknowns for pricing alternates so there were no surprises. The drywall turned out great and the job was complete in two days. If you are looking for quality work, a small business feel, honest pricing, and fantastic communication then this is a great fit. I am sure there are less expensive alternatives but I don't have the time or patience for that type of ordeal. Robin was the point-of-contact throughout the project and she did an excellent job keeping us informed on the status of the project. This is not the review I expected to write when we first started working with Shorebreak Construction and Chris Galikesis last year in October 2019. My husband and I interviewed several general contractors and selected Chris based upon his professionalism and attention to detail that the other contractors lacked. We were excited to start our 6 month renovation project which would update all electrical, plumbing (upgrade to PEX), HVAC (asbestos remediation), windows, flooring, kitchen, 3 bathrooms as well as change the roof line of the home to construct a 24ft sliding glass window wall. In other words, it was a major remodel, and we believe, the most significant in scope for Chris and Shorebreak Construction. Having completed a number of large renovations in the past, it became apparent 2 months into the project, that we would have to be very involved in the project based upon Chris's lack of presence and his reliance on Mike, his supervisor and office manager, Robin, when Chris should have been onsite to provide guidance and oversight. Another client that Shorebreak had taken on at the beginning of our project began to add to their project scope and then threaten to sue if work was not completed asap. This took the Shorebreak team off our project and started to impact our timeline. The threat of a lawsuit took precedence over being a good client, paying on time and being reasonable in our change requests. We were continually being told that we were "their favorite client" but that did not translate into work being done in our home. By January, the project was running into several delays and we were getting very concerned. Then in March, COVID hit and things really changed; it was like Chris vanished. Our last on-site meeting with Chris was on March 2, 2020. He did not step foot into our home for the last 3 months of the project. He called maybe 3 times and left all of the work to his team. We have now been living in our home for the past 6 months, fixing Shorebreak issues and Chris has never stopped by. So, the largest project Chris and Shorebreak have ever completed and he has not been on job site in the past 9 months. I had to be at the house every day and usually most of the day, to ensure that the subcontractors and Shorebreak team were completing the work correctly and what took priority each day. At one point, I had to physically help install light fixtures and ceiling fan since there was no one else to help. I would also like to point out that ALL of the subcontractors came to work, took all the necessary safety precautions and completed our project. We could not understand why Chris could not do the same. Since we moved into the home, we have discovered a number of items that are not working properly or were not installed correctly to begin with. The mere fact that we did not pass our final electrical inspection due to very basic items required by city code (smoke detector placement, GFIC outlet requirements to name a few) has been disappointing and added loss of use, time, and cost for us to fix. Usually one has a final punch list after you moved in of items that need to be addressed. We had no confidence in Shorebreak to fix these items and thought it would be better to have other contractors correct (at additional expense to us). Then 112 days after we moved in, and with almost no contact with Shorebreak or Chris Galikesis, he sent a final bill to us for $18,500. We challenged him on this invoice, and he withdrew the charges. Our biggest issue with Chris and our reason for writing this review is that we never felt like a priority to Chris, even though we were the biggest client he has ever had. Chris dropped the ball when it came to communicating with us. He should have been more present for such a large, expensive, and detailed project. We appreciate that Chris is a small business owner, trying to handle the challenges the pandemic has caused. All the more reason he should have stayed close to biggest client who continued to pay on time during the renovation. Please note that any response from Chris regarding our review, is not directed at us. We have said this to him and much more. Any response he makes is for eyes of future potential clients. This could and should have been a wonderful experience. For the reasons I have described above and many that I have not, it was the worst renovation we have ever done. read more

Chris and his crew came in and, from start to finish, (which was on time to the exact day!) did an amazing job. Professional, CLEAN, organized, conscientious and very trustworthy. We knocked down walls, ripped up floors, tore down everything including the kitchen sink. Even when we had unforeseen MAJOR plumbing issues, Chris handled it with aplomb. His subs were all awesome and came when they said they would and did what they promised. One thing about Fountain Valley is they are infamous for their building inspectors. We recently purchased our home and Shorebreak Construction was recommended to us by one of our new neighbors who was very satisfied with their remodel. When I called Shorebreak for our bathroom remodel, Chris came out within a few days for an estimate. We received other estimates, but we did not feel the same level of confidence with the other companies. We felt that if anything unforeseen were to arise during construction, Chris and his crew would know how to handle it and get things done right. After years of indecision, we finally committed to updating our master bath down to the studs and out of the mid-1980s floral wallpaper, pitted gold fixtures, and dated tile. We interviewed and received quotes from several contractors, but selected Chris and Shorebreak based on his professionalism, thoroughness, and quote. They did not disappoint. From the initial quote, to the fine tuning of requirements, all through to the final inspection and clean-up, it went without a hitch. The quote was as detailed as I've ever seen with each option noted (I hadn't decided on some details like shower niche size and shower glass upgrades) so I knew the price choices. Also it clearly stated what I supplied and what Shorebreak supplied (not always the case in my experience which could result in change orders). There were absolutely no surprises. Robin (coordinator/scheduler), Mike (foreman), Edgar and Adrian (general), Brian (tile), Randy (glass) were all very professional and communicated well to make sure it was exactly as I envisioned. The workers showed up every day, on time, and never left unexpectedly: a huge difference from the last time I had contractors! We started and completed this project during Covid. This review is long overdue. Shorebreak came out to remodel 2 bathrooms at my house from May to late Aug 2021 and they did an exceptional job. They offered fair pricing and I was notified of each change. That also have a team of very professional people who do great work from demo to plumbing and tiling. Shorebreak Construction handled parts of our kitchen update. Chris, the owner is a young guy, but obviously so knowledgeable and probably the MOST conscientious professional I've ever had do any work in or around my home! Another thing I observed that was incredibly meaningful to me, was that he purchased quality tools for his young apprentices and was such a patient and thorough teacher, showing them how to do things well and safely. Chris instilled such confidence in me, as he always showed up when he said he would, he expected his subs to show up and he was very particular about every detail. Chris has an eye for creative design solutions. We have used him for two different projects in our Costa Mesa home. He removed a wall in our living room to open up the space, and then helped us to choose flooring and lighting design for the whole house. He also just completed a major bathroom remodel for us, and we LOVE the updated, fresh look. All the contracted workers were capable and respectful of our home. They arrived on time and cleaned up at the end of the day. We felt the projects both were kept to a reasonable timeline, and we were kept informed throughout the process. Chris did a great job on our electrical/lighting project! He replaced 2 outdoor fixtures, 3 inside fixtures and added 3 brand new ones. His communication and expectations were perfectly aligned and he stayed within the promised timeline and price. Chris always cleaned up after he was finished for the day. Shorebreak worked on a remodel of a house I bought in Garden Grove. Chris is extremely professional, out of all the contractors I worked with on the project he was the only one to hand me a business card, proof of his general contractor license, and a copy of his liability insurance. There is a saying in Contruction "Fast, well built, or inexpensive: pick two!" Shorebreak while not being the cheapest option was very fast and efficient and did work the right way the first time which is something you can't put a price on. They did the demo, electrical, drywall, framing, and structural changes in my house. I will also say Chris has really good vision when it comes to a project, he has good suggestions and makes it his first priority to have a happy customer. I liked being able to pay online and he also had a personal assistant Robin who was extremely helpful and was always available for questions. read more

Their estimate is by far with the most detail that Chris listed out all the single item. Robin from the office was easy to reach and she was wonderful scheduling.
