But we were in Chicago last week on our way to a concert and decided to buy the performer some children's books for his kid and I yelped "bookstores near me" and this one popped up. So we jumped in a cab and got to Macy's then wandered around a bit until someone told us how to find this part of the store. It is not a stand-alone bookstore, but it does have most things you would need from a bookstore, plus a friendly and helpful staff person. She picked up the phone when we called to ask her where she was located and the shop hours. We were in and out in a flash with a bag full of children's books as well as a bunch of cool postcards, pins, and a few decals, too. Huge "Chicago" section, lots of nice gift and souvenir options. Thanks!

It's such a cute, well decorated space and deceptively big. So much to look at. Merchandise is on the 1st floor and basement. The 2nd floor is an event space with a table, narrow bar and comfy seating. It was a great space to host our event! I highly recommend checking out this new woman-owned small business!!

How bazaar! This place has big deals in Little China! This…read moresouvenir shop has it all. If you wanna look like you've been to China with a bunch of Chinese stuff made in China, this is the place. They do have things relating to Chicago, but a lot of the stuff is just Chinese stuff that'll sit around your house gathering dust. Think lots of little statues, vases, cups, bowls. I feel like a bull in a China shop in here- all the aisles and merchandise is so jammed close together, that every time I turn around, I feel like I'm going to break some fragile jade egg or some bamboo vase. They also sell Chinese clothing, which all seemed a bit small for my tastes. But it's pretty. It's a shop in a nice location- it's sort of in the souvenir district of Chinatown- there's a few cool other similar shops on the same street, right in front of the Chinese archway that leads you into Chinatown.

There's quite a bit of stuff crammed into a small space, and it ranges from the very cheap (and looks very cheap) the to the inexpensive (and doesn't look cheap) souvenirs to nice decorations. It's too tight with too many fragile items to bring in younger children (unless they are very well behaved) but there are lots of toys to give to children as gifts. Not surprisingly it's all made in China, including the Japanese sake serving sets which are quite a bit cheaper than you would find elsewhere. It's really fun to shop here, and you can't leave Chinatown with out some sort of souvenir, right?

After leaving the Chicago Cultural Center across the street, I thought I would check the place out. There is a small shop adjoining the gallery and classroom. Most of the art (paintings and sculpture) and jewelry (beaded stuff) didn't pique my interest - not my style. There was a display in back of the store with several handmade soaps, lotions, and lip balms. I purchased an all-natural lip balm, cleverly named "Chappucino," for only $2. It smells wonderful and is very moisturizing - a purchase I don't regret with this early on-set of winter. And I love the adorable label - a cappucino mug with a smiling face and a mustache. While I was here, there was a class in session. At the back of the store there's a large window so you can look in and observe. I only spent $2 here, but the nice lady working here gave me a free tote bag with their logo on it. Gallery 37 is certainly worth a look if you're in the loop area or looking for a way to get your child involved in the arts without spending lots of money on expensive lessons.
