I do not recommend this place. This place lacks racial diversity within the workplace. Management…read morehas poor leadership skills and there is a high turnover rate. This is why many who attend trainings here, struggle to find support. They also lack total empathy for their community partners. They use the story of Eileen to portray that they do care, but this story is totally played out. To top it off, this place lacks professionalism and is a very hostile environment. If you're foreseen as a threat, or if they do not like you, document! Office manager is very unskilled for her position and tends to micromanage and treat everyone as they are entry level just as she. Let's not forget the bullies in this office. Be aware, don't apply here if you have great interests towards helping others. They only care about their apprenticeship programs, because that is how they profit and continue their lavish styles.

So where do I begin after reading the only other review of this organization? I actually learned…read moreabout ABC through my brother (who learned it through a few other people after graduating school). Me and my brother grew up in the construction trade and were the main maintenance workers for our family business out in Hayward. Our family used to own a nursing home, so at an early age, my father taught me and my brother not only how to use our hands but also how to have a strong work ethic. Before I even start with my experience in ABC I do want to note that the previous review, him listing his many delinquencies, ANY employer with a worker that had so many problems would not keep him employed for long. Anyways I was referred to ABC through my brother and his friend John. Both of them graduated from the carpentry program with flying colors. Like brother like son, I wasnt interested in college much at the time so I decided to give ABC a chance. Even with the economy and the expected long wait list, they were very respectable in keeping me posted when new work was available and I never felt as if I was left in the dark. When I was dispatched they also helped advise me in situations that were very new to me. I worked in Pittsburg for the new courthouse, (VERY BIG PROJECT!) and needless to say I was a little scared. They really helped calm my nerves and helped me push forward. Due to my own personal life (college and career choices) I am no longer working in the construction field. Even still I couldn't thank them more. Also on a funny side note, all the time I was there I assumed they were only an apprenticeship program. Turns out they also have Seminars and Business Growth classes. They even have a Political Affairs group that help with public works and defending community rights. If you do watch local politics, you will see them there trying to do whats best for us.

We found the studio through a friend whose daughter graduated from this place and we feel absolutely happy to be part of this art family. I recommend this place to all my friends with kids and the main reason why I love Oam Studios is because they teach the fundamentals and explain the basics (shading, pencil pressure, anatomy, symmetry, etc) to children instead of making them replicate an art by following step by step instructions. Students get to pick their own project and the teacher works with them individually even though it's a group class. Teacher Omar created a system with gateways (drawing, painting, ceramics, digital art) that makes it fun for children to explore different means and 'advance in levels' as they learn more techniques. Our Teacher Monique is so patient, sweet and friendly. The studio is clean, very artsy and filled with student projects.

The transition wasn't always easy but they are so much better off now. They now understand what hard work can accomplish and have confidence in themselves. This has translated to almost every aspect of their life. The coach to student ratio is excellent for safety and there isn't much down time like waiting in line to do a skill. Classes emphasize on cardio and strength exercises. Classes helps kids in every other sport as well because they learn coordination, balance, and body position control. My kids are always tired after practice and are able to sit and focus on school work after. My kids love going to class so much I use it as a motivator to get school work and chores done lol. Our son has had a bad experience here.  He says that he gets a piece of paper to work off of, and…read morethe coaches come by every once in awhile and ask if it is ok, and that is about the extent of the coaching.  He has had problems with parts missing from his project as other students take things out of his bin when they can't find something.  They are usually the high demand parts, so he has a really tough time replacing them.  When he asks the coaches, they tell him to go look for the part, and he spends a good portion of the time looking for parts as they don't provide it for him.   He says when he has a question, several other smaller kids interrupt, and the coach's attention gets scattered, and they don't answer his question ultimately.   So, all in all, he is not able to make much progress week to week.  I was shocked, as the per lesson cost of this program is almost the price of private music or tennis instruction, that he would get so little attention and help.  Something so simple as the low availability of parts is something that could be managed, and there should be enough coaches to answer the kids' questions. I had asked about the competition path last summer and was told our son had to learn the basics for about a year first. When we said we would like to cancel, all of a sudden, this competition "class" was an option. I suspect that this basically operates like a daycare with legos for most, and all the actual coaching gets saved for the few kids in competition.
