A lot of the emphasis is on body movement and awareness. That means a lot of tumbling and agility exercises mixed in with self defense and karate. There's usually a competition for each session. The variety of the competitions - sumo, rope swing, dodgeball, freeze, belt grab, etc - is an example of how well rounded the entire program is. One of the truly great things about Elite is that kids are taught to instruct other kids. Every kid that stays long enough eventually becomes a sensei. Our six year old son started teaching about six months in. We love this! What better way to teach kids leadership, confidence, respect, social skills and more. All of this is to the credit of the great sensei that runs Elite. Sensei John is calm, upbeat, unflappable and definitely one of a kind. He talks to children with enthusiasm and treats them like more than "just a kid". As such, he gets the attention of his students without a loud voice or strong commands. The kids all want to do well for him and for themselves. It should be noted that if you're looking for a tough, strict and very regimented karate environment, this might not be the place for you. Your child will learn a lot at Elite but it's not going to be through military-style training you see at other schools. I could go on and on and on. Our son loves this place. We have the highest amount of respect for Sensei John. You must check it out for yourself!

Truly one of the best decisions we ever made for her. Our daughter is autistic and initially we wanted something to help with confidence and coordination. But this experience has been so much more than that. Sensei Mike will likely never know the impact he has had on our daughter and family. She has learned life skills that are immeasurable. I can't recommend this studio enough. Learning the difficult karate skills aside, this place has truly been a godsend for our daughter.

The instructors here are all amazing. No egos, happy to answer all questions and match the pace of their students without hesitation. It is awesome to have a great group of people to exercise and learn with every week. The Dojo is a family. Again, no egos, lots of learning and fun. Of course the best part is how practical the curriculum is. Everything is focused on self-defense for real life situations. Yes, Marshall Arts have art in them, but USSD is focused on very practical skills. After a few weeks my daughter couldn't resist starting too. She absolutely loves it and will no doubt out rank me in no time!

When I learned they had family plans, I signed myself up as well. What I was expecting when I enrolled my daughter was just an extracurricular activity to fulfill her need to move (and because she wanted to be like the Ninja Turtles). But what we've gotten back has been so much more. I've lost three pants sizes, for starters!! And I've also gained improved self-esteem, better focus, confidence in defending myself in shifty situations, a shared activity my daughter and I can practice at home together, and a passion I'll carry with me for the rest of my life. The list goes on and on -- but most of all, it's the camaraderie. In so many ways, I feel like I found my second home when I started training. Everyone is so friendly and patient as I learn, and I've met some truly awesome new friends. The coaches are all passionate about their craft, and that really sets them apart from other Jiu-Jitsu gyms. I know because I've tried other academies before, and Charles Gracie is unmatched in the level of care their coaches give to each student. They know their students by name and take the time to check in with how they're doing. They make sure no one falls through the cracks and that everyone understands the techniques. Last of all -- this place is super CLEAN!!! Every day after class, we see the coaches cleaning the mats, floors, toilets, locker rooms, and doors. It's such a relief not to worry about catching anything nasty. The other academies I tried were honestly grotesque -- grime in places that's hard to ignore -- it made me cringe. Honestly though, come check it out and see for yourself.

The classes are so full you have to get there early to see at all, and even then it's obstructed views and a long distance over the mats. My kids like jiujitsu training, and it sucks that this one aspect absolutely ruins the experience for the parents. I've seen jiujitsu have a sense of community and this place ain't it.

After I moved to Livermore, JG Academy was the first and only BJJ spot that I checked out despite folks at JG encouraging me to try out other locations before making a decision. I have really enjoyed my time here and would recommend it to others. The coaches are kind, excellent instructors, and are active competitors in the area. The folks you train with here are also very welcoming and are great training partners to have. This gym isn't very traditional and we leave our ego at the door so don't be afraid to come check this spot out, even if it's your first time training in BJJ.

Quality/Consistency - The coaches/instructors here lean into modern teaching philosophies and have an emphasis on specific training and live sparring. Every session is a great workout that has you focusing on skill development with movements and situations that will contribute to your jiu jitsu game. Culture - The members here genuinely care about each other and only focus on getting themselves and each other better at Jiu Jitsu. Outside of this, there is a strong affinity for keeping each other safe and having fun overall. There isn't a pressure to compete, but we do have regular competitors in the gym -- it's been fun to see people test/challenge themselves. Facility - The gym is cleaned meticulously including the mats which are disinfected after every session. The bathrooms are clean (and smell nice) which also have a shower if you need it. It's conveniently located with ample parking. Lastly, and most importantly, there was never any pressure to join as I was looking for a new gym. The staff highly encourage you to see what else is out there and ultimately decide what is best for you. I can't recommend Aspire to Inspire Livermore (JG Academy) highly enough. Let's train!

I took an Intermediate Pistol Course earlier this month with Matt and Ben leading the class -- both were phenomenal instructors. Each instructor had their own philosophy and methodology with handling and tactics. I appreciate that they also brought their "real world" experiences into our group discussions. Since the instructors have LE and Military backgrounds, better perspectives and examples are shared with the class which is an added bonus for those who are learning new concepts or strategies. The course I took was at Field Sports Park on the border of South San Jose and Morgan Hill. We had a private section of the park which worked nicely for our intimate class size of 10. The class started at 9am and ran a little bit past 3pm. We completed drills as a class and did some additional work in smaller group sizes of 1:5. I enjoyed the session so much that I signed up for 1:1 instruction for a new weapon I just purchased. Signing up is easy. Just browse through the course offerings on the website, select and pay for the course you want to take (check for prerequisites), and Adriana (I believe she's the Operations Manager) will respond to you promptly with all the details you need. By the way, Adriana has been an absolute pleasure to work with -- she's responsive and really great with answering questions. Overall, there's a pretty awesome team running this business.
