From the beginning when my girls joined this gym Brock , the owner, seemed a bit rude and condescending, but the interactions with him were minimal as he had employees who worked mostly with my kids age group. Not sure what happened the following semester, he must have lost some employees, but due to the changes in staff, he had become more active in their age group. Because if the personnel changes they were now more subjected to his incessant condescension.
The more interaction my 2 kids had with him the more frustrated they would come home. They complained weekly about his crass and unkind way of talking to them. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt and make sure my girls weren't just being overly sensitive. I also began to wonder if it was because we were the only Latinas there. Now I don't like to play the race card but my daughter wore a Selena shirt and he would make comments about it. He once called my daughter by her sisters name and when she corrected him, reminding him of her name he said don't correct me or expect me to call you by your name... I have a lot of students and I can't remember them all.
Every week they'd come home exasperated but I thought it'd be a good lesson for them to learn to brush it off, not repay evil for evil.
Although it is pretty sad that the owner of the paid establishment, which is supposed to treat the very kids he's training, how to properly tumble and cart wheel, but to mutually respect one another, not only they're peers and employees but also the trainer to the child, , yet, he was belittling and pompous.
Week of the mask mandate drop I asked him about it, if he was going to follow the guidelines set forth by the government, and allow the kids to hear he. He said he'd make the decision that week once he was more informed about it, as he has no idea what I was talking about.
Because He wears his mask under his chin for the majority of the hour WE are there I assumed he was just as tired of this lack of O2 and over inhalation of CO2, as we are. So following week we walk in and I see a group of unmasked kids so my impression is he is following Gov Newsom's guidelines, who's following the CDC.
So I tell my girls yay, you don't have to wear it. After he tells them to put one on I asked him about the other students. He explained that that was his homeschool class! There was some conversation about my switching the girls to that class and then he said not going to work... as I proceeded to ask him about when and if he's ever drop the mask thing he explained he's now following the schools lead.
He then "realizes" as I was going to leave the building and wait outside, that my niece and I were wearing masks (because I had been talking to him and hadn't gotten the full story of whatever he was saying re:keeping masks) Long story short he YELLS at the both of us while pointing his arm and finger to the exit and says "you don't have a mask on... GET OUT!!!" I called my husband and was so upset, he ask's if I took the girls out, I said no. I then go back and take them out 15 min t into the lesson.
There is so much more to this story including his explicit language with my husband my husband when my husband called to talk to him about his demeanor and disrespectful attitude at us.
It gets worse... he challenges my husband to come over to the gym that evening. After cussing my husband out he lies and says I always have to tell your kids to put a mask on. COMPLETE LIE! Matter of fact I have a friend that can confirm there two little sisters that have come in twice asking for masks. He's a liar!
When my family member goes the following day to meet with him as requested he squares up in a fighting mode ..... it was a wild and crazy situation that made me feel very unsafe and respected as a citizen and human being. I feel like he wouldn't do this with another family but because were Mexicans it's ok.
I don't know, maybe it's CoVid, maybe it was a bad day he was having or maybe he's just a real jerk!
Whatever it is this man is insane! And we will never recommend him to anyone. Stay away. Beware? read more
