I was there once, on Dec. 3rd. It was a Monday, which turned out to be a "Ladies Shoot Free" day. I went with my boyfriend, and didn't know that, so it turned out to be a nice surprise - the first of many. We only had to pay for targets and ammo, which were reasonably priced. I haven't been shooting in about 10 years, and I was a bit anxious, but the place was immaculate, the staff friendly, and any questions I had were answered politely. Even though I had my own, eye and ear protection were provided gratis, which was also a nice touch. The only minor issue I had was acoustics. Somewhere on the line where I was shooting, it sounded like someone was practicing with something BIG. I dont know what it was, but I had to time my shots either before or after whatever was going off because those rounds made me jump. I used to shoot on an outdoor, active line regularly, so someone close, shooting whatever I was shooting did not bother me, even with brass flying by my face, however, this was an issue, given the shooter was not right next to me. This is something beginning shooters might want to be aware of. Other than this, which might be hard to control, I give Shoot Straight a 9+. I will be going back. read more

What a bunch of pompous A**holes! Been trying to ship an out of state purchase from an FFL to them. Multiple phone calls and they refuse to send their FFL to the shipping FFL. You can never find the exact person to deal with and they act like they're doing you a favor. BS!!! This is part of what they are supposed to do. The sales associates John S. and Dalton greeted me and made me feel a lot more comfortable. They helped me with all of my purchases and spent the time to explain and help me with the paperwork. This is my single favorite place to go for purchasing and shooting. A lot of these reviews are of people either just complaining about having to follow clearly posted rules, and not liking the prices. If you don't have an extra $20 to spend in the mag you want, get a better job, or don't waste all of your money on guns. They are extremely professional and I have never once had to wait to be helped after dozens of trips. They are professional, but will also answer any question you have and have a good sense of humor as well as an eye for helping you pick out what you want. They are well versed in the rules and will enforce them, which many reviewers seem to think is a bad thing. Well if you all want to go to some busted up range where they let you act like a cowboy and keep your loaded gun on your hip or leave your AK on the counter while you're shooting another firearm, go there. I'd be glad to not have you at the range I frequent. Go buy a big lot of land or something and go nuts, but if you aren't going to practice firearm safety, don't go to Shoot Straight and go waste your money somewhere else so that I can be safe. This is a perfectly professional and safe place for every gun owner or enthusiast to enjoy, and it isn't the wild wild west so you can even bring your kids, as long as you follow the rules! read more

A group of 6 of us have practiced at Shoot Straight range for over 4 years. We are all ex-military or law enforcement. There is a new staff that operates like range Gestapo. We are all about shooting safety but the new staff treats customers like idiots. Suddenly today they decide the targets we have used for several years are too large and that they believe rounds are striking the floor of the range. A few weeks back a laser popped off one of the guns and we were told we would have to come back after the range was close that night as they had no process or accommodation to recover anything that falls into the range. Also, it is irritating that the A/C blows the targets constantly. We spoke with the manager, David, who blames the new staff's inexperience for their inappropriate customer interaction. Unfortunately the staff should be trained prior to being working the floor, which should include customer respect. While Mgr David was very cordial, the rest of the range staff has little customer courtesy and spend their time looking for petty issues to call customers on. Shoot Straight appear to have the attitude that they are doing us a favor by letting us shoot at their facility. read more

Range is Ok. But always check the online website prices before you buy anything in the store. They jack up the prices in the store a LOT and some sales people won't tell you you're being ripped off by buying in the store. You have to tell them that it is cheaper on their website before they will give you the website price. Then they look at you funny because you are requesting the website price as if they are the ones getting stiffed of their commission. I suspect their commission comes from the higher in store prices. Basically ripping off customers who are not aware of the website prices. The manager knows this so I suspect the manager is as dishonest as the car salesman manager. They will charge you as much as they can get away with it in the store. Always check online first if you want the best prices. read more

Went last Friday to pick up a firearm we bought. Finished process and started asking about accessories, we wanted to also buy the Eighth edition Florida Firearms Law Use & ownership book. The gentleman that helped us out asked Tim when they would get the book and Tim just replied "when it ships" I thought that was rude and obnoxious. I figured he was having a bad day, today I went back to buy some other accessories for other equipment and to buy another firearm. As I am walking towards the back of the store to speak to one of the guys behind the counter, I hear another employee call Tim to take a call from a customer who is "asking about a rifle" Tim yells back "tell him to go on line". I turned right around and walked out. If that doesn't scream I hate this job I don't know what does. Maybe he owns the place so hey do as you wish. They won't get anymore of my money that's for sure. Plenty of other Dealers in the area that aren't rude an appreciate customers. read more

The positives - it's a really nice place, very good inventory and it's roomy. The downside is that it can be overpriced and some staff can be unprofessional - the other comments on Yelp describing the same experience resonated with me after going there. There are some outstanding staff members though and it's worthwhile to find one. Be sure to read the rules for the range, they are understandably concerned about keeping the patrons safe and it's easy to inadvertently violate a rule if you are not familiar with them. read more

First time I went I was nervous and we went on a Monday. We got there at about 3:30 and it was my first time shooting. I was happy to hear that Monday's are ladies days so I was free! But by 5 there were people everywhere so if you don't like that go earlier than 5. I asked if my husband who is a veteran could get a discount but to my dismay they said no. I found out later than they are supposed to only pay 5 dollars but this person charged us full price for him. This reason and the simple fact that I have a hard time getting help or consistent answers there is the reason for 4 stars. Whenever I go in I never know who to talk to and I'm always directed to different employees even after I wait in line to talk to an employee. But I have a lot of fun there and it's very clean, just be careful when we were there on Monday there's girls who appear they don't know what their doing (much like Me) but who had nobody helping them and not an employee in sight if they needed help or to be corrected ect. read more

I Have Purchased over 5 Different firearms from this store in the past. Yesterday I went in to purchase a Beretta1301 .I waited at the counter for over 20 minutes. (I Checked My Watch). During this time the clerk had finished the paper work for another customer. After this he proceeded to try and sell this customer on Joining the N.R.A. (All Good here ,as I am a Member) Problem He could have stopped for a moment .instead 20 minutes later I walked out! I decided to return the next day. Guess What! Me and one other customer in the store. They didn't have the gun inthe tactical dept. so I was directed to the "Shotgun counter" Clerk was on the phone with customer discussing the fact that he didn't have the Ammo the customer. 10 minutes later, I left again. (Checked my watch ). As I walked out by the First Clerk that directed me to the Shotguns. I told him I couldn't get anyone to talk to me. His reply ----- Sorry About That ! ------------------- They lost a Sale.( 1000.00 For The Gun I Wanted) And a return Customer. I WON't BACK ! ! !------- I Went to " Take Aim" . I am an experienced shooter looking for a new "home range". I found what i want at Shoot Straight. They stress safety without being petty or overbearing. They have a clean, modern range. Enormous gun/ accessory shop. Helpful, knowledgeable staff. As I was leaving the manager stopped me and asked me what I thought of the facility, I told him it is outstanding and worth my little extra drive.I offered one minor constructive criticism and he stated they are aware of it and are accomplishing an upgrade. Only because it doesn't go any lower for the Ulmerton location do I give them a "1 star". In a recent purchase I was told the store price matched pistol prices but that the model of Glock I was purchasing was not in a special program I could avail myself of. My fault I did not wait, as the day after I found it did qualify, costing me over $150 more than I should have paid. Despite that incident, which I chalked up to my error and impatience, I went to the same store on 9/11/2019 to purchase an FN 5.7 that was on sale for $999. As a start to the purchase, I offered to trade my "like new" Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 9mm (in the original box with paperwork and mags) along with $800. I was offered a measly $75 for the M&P. A different Shoot Straight had already offered over $150. Apparently the manager sets the price he/she wants to pay. If you want to be ripped off on a trade or overcharged on a price match, go to the Ulmerton location. Otherwise I suggest going elsewhere. I will be personally recommending to all my associates (avid gun purchasers) to avoid this store. read more

I stopped here on Sunday, Aug 16 to purchase two handguns and appraised one for possible trade, to my surprise the Lady at the counter did not show any knowledge but a cold rude attitude and no manners at all, not to mention the Manager was even worse, no eye contact and handle my trade in like a piece of garbage besides offering 150.00 for a 460.00 gun. The people attitude at this place is the worst I have ever experience. I've been here a few times and see new employees often, but the condescendent attitude is standard as a hiring point. There's no one knowledgeable an off to help you on your purchase, this is a Walmart kind of store, lack of professionalism and education, period. Tried to purchase 2 guns from this place, each time they wanted gave me the case display, I wanted one New in the box, told me on one that they had ordered 12 and should be in Friday. Went back and then another excuse. So I decided on another gun, I saw the tag price, it rang $50 more. Tried to tell me that the display gun was that price on the tag, New one boxed was more. I disputed this with manager Gary who got irate because someone mistagged it. He said that it was a receiving error and it was price in the computer. BS! I told him every customer who didn't catch the discrepancy was being ripped off $50. Shoot straight was making money by false advertising. I said even Walmart matches honors the difference. He got even more flustered and said, this isn't Walmart and don't compare! I said you are ripping people off. He then in a huff sold me the gun $10 under the tag price, New in a box, and free range time. I nor my husband will spend another dime there!!! The only reason it got a single star is because i cannot leave zero...staff is rude, prices are severely inflated(like 100-150 dollars higher than stores like Bill Jackson's or Take Aim) for firearms...used firearm prices are pretty close to retail new prices, i fell for it once..,i bought a very old firearm that generally goes for NO MORE than 85 dollars anywhere else for 250+ dollars...ammo pricing on their online store differ from what you actually pay for and when mentioned to staff her response was "well if you dont want it go somewhere else"...ok, I will name some pros - very nice/clean store - great looking range...other than that I WILL NEVER SPEND A DIME IN THIS STORE EVER AGAIN...they need a serious attitude adjustment and fair prices because trust me Bill Jackson's/Take Aim/Down Range Guns are not too far away read more

I went there yesterday 3,14,2016 with a lady friend. Not bad, big inventory, pricing is so., so. I don't know how willing they are to work with you. The big store only had two guys working in it at the time and it was 11 a.m. on ladies shoot free day. Not too busy yet. The two guys were friendly enough. I asked about the Vets range pricing of $5. They said it was for active duty only. Well active duty is not a Veteran. A Veteran is a person who has already 'Been there and done that.'. The place has got to get its story straight on this issue. While there some people were walking around looking at firearms but the only tow employees working there were stuck behind the range check in counter. Maybe some possible sales were lost. It would seem that on a busy day like free range time there would be at least two other employees working the sales floor. The range was good, typical. Nothing special but worked fine. They should have a barrel out in the range area for patrons to dump their used brass. The employee said to just throw the casings out into the range area..hmmm. Not a bad experience and I will go back. I just want to get the real story behind the Veterans getting range time for $5. My lady friend shot very well, she hadn't shot for a number of years. She didn't feel intimidated by the place but she wanted to have me along for backup. read more

Last month Shoot Straight had their anniversary sale. I saw in the flyer that Taurus pt111's were going for $250. I called a few days before the sale to ask f I could put a deposit on one. The guy on the phone said I could pick it up early because I have a CCW license. When I got there the clerk said " we set one aside for you" I asked specifically if it was a new pistol and he said yes. When I got the pistol home and disassembled it the trigger return bar was scorched black. I tried to call them and was put on hold forever. I followed up with an E-Mail and they never replied. It is obvious that they had a returned pistol that they wanted to unload and that they do not have the courtesy to return a call or E-Mail. In my opinion unless you are dropping $1100 on a fancy new Sig they don't want to be bothered. I certainly would never recommend doing business with them ever. read more

my dad has been there numerous time but while visiting me recently he had a horrible experience. first they told him he couldn't use his targets that he brought, which are the same targets he's always used. they didn't want to honor his gift certificates which I bought, they put him in a range that was already occupied..etc...etc. I am sad because that's a place he. always liked and I always got gift cards for him. for him to have such a bad experience makes me fell bad cause I encouraged him to go there read more

Very displeased with the overcharging of accessories from this store. I paid $139.99 for a Magpul stock, get home open the box and it comes with a chart of all of the Magpul items they offer along with the MSRP for the items. This stock is MSRP for $99.95 and can be purchased online from other dealers for $60-$70 dollars shipped. How do they think they can charge over $40 dollars more than the MSRP thats insane. This is just preying on new gun owners that don't know how much certain things should cost. Will likely never purchase from them again. read more

I read the reviews here and thought to myself, I can't believe other people had as bad experience as I did. I drove an hour in heavy traffic to get to the store. When I got to the store I was impressed by the inventory but that was the end of my good impression. Service was absolutely terrible. I've gotten better treatment at Walmart. The sales people were condescending and aloof. They all acted too busy to show the guns even though I knew what I wanted. I purchased a Sig p229 Elite for about $1200, and a holster that the salesman assured me would fit the gun and of course it didn't fit. When I went to pick up my gun they couldn't find it for almost an hour. The salesman didn't even show me the features and barely let me handle the gun because he ran back and forth to other customers. I had this same experience with every salesman in other departments I went to. The attitude there is viral and must reflect the poor management that the owner wishes to convey to it's customers. I advise you to buy a gun online at Buds etc or other sites and have them delivered to any reputable store other than this one. I bought two guns online and I'm completely satisfied with the customer service. Whatever you do, don't go or buy from SHOOT STRAIGHT because they do anything but shoot straight. read more

WARNING........the worst place to do business. store is nice but they will put the screws to you. Bought a pistol from them in March.2015. Great gun ,liked it but it had no safety. Took the gun back today 7/23/15 to trade for one with a safety. The gun they sold me cost $329.00.When I took it in for trade, they offered me $100.00 for it, I had expected some kind of fee but a $229.00 loss in 5 month that's BS. Buyer beware. read more

barely two stars. it's a range. and on monday, ladies go free. the staff is rude. many lanes don't work. i went with a group of people for ladies night. my wife, a friend and his wife and their two kids (girls). we purchased plenty of paper to shoot, but had our own ammo as wal-mart has the lowest prices around. we were all trying all the handguns we brought and were told couldn't pass the gun from lane to lane, we had to change people in the lane. we were told if we passed another gun we would be asked to leave. we later realized that the gun needed to be cased to be transferred to another lane. i don't know why the employee would have told us that when i asked how we should transnsfer guns between the lanes. he said "you don't, you transfer people" i can understand wanting to enforce safety, especially for a place that has had a few injuries and or deaths, but really that should be on the customer. any range i've ever been to has had no problems with people moving an unloaded pistol from one lane to another. most people un-case their rifle on the shelf behind the lane and walk the rifle to the lane. i was considering purchasing a revolver while there but after the rude employee treatment, i don't think so. read more

Selecting a rifle was very pleasant experience here. After making a decision, I even commented to the assistant manager that the salesman was very knowledgeable and professional. As I was proceeding with the purchase, they determined that the floor model was the only one in stock. I was told it had only been on the floor for a few days. Later, within hours after purchase, prior to firing or doing anything with the unit, I noticed a rather obvious misalignment issue with the barrel , stock and bolt. I brought it back to the store the next today. They directed the in house gun smith to look at it. I was really shocked that despite the obvious mechanical problem, he tried to blow it off saying that he did not see the problem . Manager of the store examined and concurred related to the alignment. He indicated that all he could do was facilitate an RMA. I am not happy at all at present that I was sold a gun with a fairly obvious problem. But, I am hopefully that they will make it right. I will update this review following resolution. read more

Possibly one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. Walked in there a few weeks ago just before Christmas and was looking to purchase a 12 gauge shotgun. This was midweek, place was virtually empty except for a few people in the range and I asked the unenthusiastic employee behind the desk (if I caught his name, I'd put him on blast) about purchasing a few different 12 gauge models of which they didn't have anything in stock (being right before Christmas, that was understood) That said, he gave me one word answers for every question I had, never offered to check either of the other stores in the area and gave me a answer of "I don't know" when asked when they'd be getting another shipment in. The pompous attitude and condescending chat was enough to have me NEVER step foot in that spot again, and I'll make sure I share that with all my fellow gun owners as well, make the drive to Tampa instead. ;) Shoot Straight, drop the attitude and realize that your customers are the reason you still have a job! read more

I have been going to Shoot Straight Clearwater ever since they opened at the old Knights shooting sports location. The past few times I have been in the store I have regretted EVER spending any of my money on this company.. The incompetence and costumers service of the mangers (the guys in the black shirts) have been appalling to say the least. I was in there the other day to shoot, and I brought one of my suppressors and the manger accused me of having fake paperwork from the ATF.. My paperwork doesn't have a Tax Stamp on it because the ATF lost my original and I have a copy with a seal stamped on it. The manger gave me a real hard time about it saying "he has never seen a form 4 with out a stamp, and I need to fix that". That statement tells me he has never dealt with the ATF on a NFA item. I can't make them give me anything, and this is the guy running a gun shop. Two of my buddies were there with me when this happened and couldn't believe the run around they were giving me especially when they never question my paperwork the other six or seven times I brought it. I will never darken there door steps and I've already turned friends away from buying from them just from hearing my past experience. read more
