Discrimination Against Disabled Shooters - Shameful Behavior at Shoot Straight Largo As someone who uses a wheelchair, I've always appreciated businesses that treat me with the same respect and consideration as anyone else. Unfortunately, Shoot Straight in Largo, Florida, and especially manager Nolan, failed that test miserably. After over two hours of range time and more than 400 rounds fired, I was suddenly approached by a range employee accusing me of hitting the ceiling -- something I categorically did not do. I shoot clean, consistent patterns and keep to the lower half of a 12x18 target. My lane only extended to 7-8 yards, and despite that being a range equipment issue, nobody addressed it. Instead, I was handed a second target board and told that will help . First it's the ceiling, what's next the floor! They couldn't even keep their story straight on who saw me do this well it wasn't the guy who came to me. When I asked the staff member for specifics, he gave me a smirk and said, "Don't kill the messenger." I explained the lane issue, and he admitted "you're preaching to the choir," yet still placed the blame on me. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was introduced to Nolan, who showed zero professionalism or understanding. He claimed someone on "his wall team" saw the incident -- but couldn't say who, because that person was "on lunch." I told Nolan I've been shooting since I was 10, and this was unacceptable. His only response? "You don't have to yell," even though I never raised my voice. That's not management -- that's dismissive deflection. Even worse? There were three other shooters using chairs at the 7-10 yard line. None of them were harassed like I was. So what made me different? My wheelchair? If so, that's a direct violation of ADA standards -- treating a disabled individual unfairly in a public accommodation. I am a paying member, and yes, I will be back. And next time, I expect: * A working lane that meets accessibility standards * Equal treatment * A manager who knows how to handle customer concerns -- not dodge them Shoot Straight Largo: If you can't follow basic ADA compliance and respect disabled customers, then you need retraining -- or new leadership. read more

I actually ordered ammo (online) for my CCW class, not knowing what kinda stock they have in store. Since it only comes from Apopka warehouse to here, I figured it's an easy short transaction. Turns out that 1. They stock loads of ammo here 2. Online orders take up to 2 weeks to fulfill Either way I had to call them to see whether my order had arrived. The fellow who picked up the phone checked and passed me off to another guy who asked if I had an "ammo question." I explained myself and he knew right off the bat that the order came in yesterday. He also said that they hadn't started to notify people yet. So I went over to pick it up and the fellow at the counter asked if I had been called yet; no; I called the store. So off he goes to find it and now I got my ammo. He went over the order with me and bagged it up. Pleasant young man, if nothing else. As you can tell, this place is enormous. It has every kinda firearm, accessory and hunting gadgetries galore. There's also an indoor range behind the sales floor. A large counter dedicated to just the range is plopped in the middle of the sales floor. Bottom line is that this store is like a candy store or a Chuck E. Cheese for the adult world. They sell pretty much everything from pea shooter Saturday night special stuff all the way to long guns, machine guns and everything in between. Large displays of discounted pistols and revolvers in kit. Also good sized displays of old school and pricey rifles, revolvers and pistols (think 1500-2500 dollar range here). You need a safe to keep all your arsenal safe? They got that too in all shapes and sizes. Put it all in a huge, wood accented warehouse style building full of stuffed deer, bears and antelopes. So guess what you got? As I said earlier, I felt like a kid in a candy store. I'm not your stereotypical NRA card carrying gun nut by any means. I just like to think I can defend myself in adverse circumstances if ever it came to such things. Well, this store provided me with the first step of that journey. They also have CCW and other training classes available if that's what you need. So if it goes you're looking for stuff that goes bang or boom, business is booming and you'll have a bang up time finding ALL of it here. If Shoot Straight ain't got it, you don't need it. read more

First time shooter here and will never come back! Been to multiple shooting ranges before and never experienced this. Waited 45 minutes to get into our lane when they had multiple lanes open. Finally was told we were lane 22 and my boyfriend kindly asked did you say lane 22 and the employee RUDELY mocked my boyfriend saying yeah lane 22. Finally got in at 6'olock after waiting 45 minutes then at 6:30 was told we have to leave but they don't close until 7pm. Paying $50 for 30 minutes is just worth it. read more

Friday morning, I received a call from Shoot Straight indicating how both my grandfathers riffles were in from New York. Decided to swing by and find out what was the process to pick them up. The location is in a very spacious area, parking is very big and well spaced out. As far as it interior design, it inclines more towards the hunting vibe. The waiting to be attended is kinda of long because there isn't a system per se, it's whoever reaches the counter and gets the attention of a staff member. Just like a bar kind of. I decided to ask one of the female employees how was the process, she did explain as soon as she was done with the people she was attending to, she would speak with me. She noticed she had two customers she asked the employee next to her, and as soon as he was done, he would attend me. I was attended by Brian who I have to say has great customer service skills as far as Communicating, Knowledge, Resourceful and positive attitude! I did visit this location twice before today (11/24/2023) not every employee was professional as he was. He took the time to explain everything in a detailed matter. We were in town for the weekend, and planned to go to Shoot Straight, since it was relatively close to St. Petersburg where we had an AirBNB. I was impressed with the professionalism of the staff. You can tell they deal with a lot of traffic at that location for the firing range. They are well organizing with directing the queue around the main counter area to pay for using one of the range lanes. Additionally, I liked that safety glasses and earmuffs were included in the lane rental fee. I really enjoyed the range. Was clean and organized, and enjoyed ourselves with the pieces we brought for the hour we were there. Well recommended if you're looking for a good place to practice in the St. Pete/Clearwater area. read more

Before I begin, allow me to explain the 4 out of 5 stars. The only reason I didn't give them five stars, is because the range itself does need work. The rifle lane I was on had to be fixed twice in an hour because the motor on the belt that since it returns the target broke. Multiple lanes need a whole new machine, and they seriously need to install some dehumidifiers. With that being said, before I went to the range I had read a number of bad reviews on the staff itself. I'm not sure if they were for the Clearwater location, or one of the other locations, Or if maybe they were just written by folks that are impossible to please, but the staff at the Clearwater location were awesome. Very professional at how they went about business. I've been to some ranges/firearm stores where the staff there reeked of condescension with every answer. The retail shop has solid inventory and their prices are about the norm. My suggestion to anyone who reads this and write their own review is this: specify what location they had a bad experience at. read more

Went here to shoot with a friend. Filled out the paper work and waited 30 minutes for a spot to free up. As we went to pay, my friend asked if we could even rent guns. The guy helping us said only if we had a carry permit. We did not. So we were unable to shoot. I'm not sure if we missed that or not on the website but it would be nice if they had that option or would have told us or asked us sooner. read more

This place has fallen fast and hard. A couple of short years ago I would have given it a 3-4 star review. The range itself has always been ridiculously hot. They claim it has to do with the air recirculating system sucking cold air out and blowing hot outside air in. Funny how no other ranges have this issue and they have recirculating systems too. The motors for the target senders are always jacked up, causing many lanes to be down. The crowds that accumulate here are absurd. But the biggest difference is the employees. They used to be mostly friendly and helpful. But now they are lazy, indifferent and even flat out rude. Nobody working here wants to be. And there are too many employees just sitting around doing nothing. If this place didn't have cheap transfer fees and range fees it would be out of business. Fire arm prices are absurd and ammo prices are a comical F you in the face price... I'll keep using them for the FFL transfer fee but nothing else. read more

Staff is friendly and there is a HUGE selection of guns, awesome. The range has been on point every-time I go (which isn't very often) and usually not too busy. The only problem I have with shoot straight is that all their guns are very overpriced. That goes for ammo as well. I was looking to get a holosun optic that I saw online for a decent price. Excellent store and staff! Our first experience with Shoot Straight was buying 3 new weapons at the October Tampa Gun Show. Prices were better than competitors. We asked to be able to pick them up at the Clearwater location. Transaction went perfectly. Even changed our minds (with regard to different models with lasers) and Mngr. Patrick facilitated the exchange, got us what we wanted and and was VERY kind with my husband and I. We returned a week later to use the range and everyone involved was informative and helpful. The range is clean and has LOTS of lanes. Ladies even shoot FREE on Mondays. My husband was so happy to be able to shoot his large caliber 30-30 Winchester there too. We will definitely be using Shoot Straight on Ulmerton Rd. again. We HIGHLY recommend! read more

Roof was leaking and it was muggy and hot. TONS of employees standing around and very few customers. This is the 2nd time in about 6 months I've been here (and only the second time in a year I've been here) and both times I've asked to see a firearm with the intention of purchasing it. Last time, I asked 3 people to assist me and each said they were assigned a different area. After waiting an absurd amount of time I left. As I walked out, the employee 15' from me said sorry we couldn't help you. It should be noted that employee even tried calling others on the phone to get them to do their job to no avail. Today, I asked to see a $700 gun. The guy behind the counter said he couldn't show it to me because he was a "range safety officer" and had to watch the range. This same guy has his back to the range as he said this. He also was talking and not paying attention immediately preceding my request. He then told me that only one of the other guys behind one of the other counters could show me the gun. He then stared blankly at me and I asked him if it was my responsibility to fetch someone so I could give them a bunch of money, and he got the hint. He then asked another employee to help at which time that employee cut him off saying he was already helping someone. I then walked out with my pocket still full of money and numerous employees standing around at this dilapidated range. If I'm being honest, there have been other times long ago where I had very shitty service at this place and I don't think I'm coming back. I don't feel like describing the incident, but it was enough to get me to email their corporate office. They need better management and smarter employees who understand that businesses need to make money to succeed. This is why people just buy the guns online for cheaper. read more

I've never felt more unwelcome in my life. I've been waiting to come to a range ever since I got back down to the Clearwater area, and decided to pay Shoot Straight a visit. As soon as I walked in, I asked one of the associates about the range sign up. He looked at me like I was literally bothering him for asking a question and replied curtly that it was behind me. I got in line, and it took the associates five minutes to even say anything to me. When he finally said something, he looked at me like I had no business being here, and was very short with me. He told me that I couldn't shoot unless I bought a membership, was over 21, and had a concealed weapons permit. That's all fine and good, I understand rules. I've been to many other ranges from Virginia to Florida, and they never once required me to have a permit. But the way he said it and the overall atmosphere was just incredibly hostile. On top of that, many of the other patrons were giving me side glances, and one woman stared at me from behind a merchandise stand. I planned to buy myself a firearm from them in the future, but now I will not be spending my money on service like this. read more

Do yourself a favor and if you're in the market to purchase a gun, go some place else. They have a 25% restock fee if your background check doesn't clear which means if for any reason you don't pass their background check, they keep 25% of your money. They never bothered telling me this and they should have mentioned it up front. It took 8 weeks for my background check to clear, so they literally sat on my money for 8 weeks. Also, they come across as if they're doing their customers a favor. They should change their name from Shoot Straight to something else. I call that false advertising. read more

I just moved to Clearwater and need to find a range. I have been to 3 other Shoot Strait Stores and they are all the same!! Hot as hell dirty ranges, super cocky attitudes and it's all of them that I met!! Higher than average Gun prices. So I was reading the reviews and it's sad to find it's the same here. I am US Army Disabled Veteran as well as an NRA Pistol Safety Instructor and still get treated the same crappy way. I'll keep looking and will never go to a Shoot Strait again. What makes them think they're above everyone because the work in crappy corporate gun store. They need customer service trading at a minimum to start. My husband enjoyed it but I kinda freaked when I walked in and saw all of those animals ALL OVER the place. I wanted to practice to protect myself from people...not to kill animals. I'd say most people that come in are the same. I shot 10 bullets and the person next to me shells were flying over at me...is that normal? Don't remember that happening at other places...? It was overload for me and I waited in the car while my husband shot. Not many lanes for shooting. A friend of mine was in town from New York. We had not seen each other in over 30 years so we had to make sure we hit the shooting range while he was in town. I have to say I was a little worried about being hot in the range after reading some of the other reviews but the temperature in the range was very pleasant. I was wearing a long sleeve shirt with an undershirt and I the temperature was very comfortable even though I'm a large man. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Range was clean and well maintained. My wife didn't feel like shooting but was able to observe from outside the range through a window. A good time was had by all! read more

Range is hot and crowded. There are three ranges, and because they don't want to have to clean all three ranges they cram everyone into the back two with temperatures in the 90s. I complained to the staff about the temperature and they did nothing but suggest obvious solutions that had already been tried. Over priced on many things with an above average corporate attitude. With several ranges around the area I would suggest a little better customer service. read more

Have been to this location a handful of times. During every visit the staff was welcoming, knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly and professional. I thought their prices are reasonable. Just a heads up.... Three of us and myself showed up for the BSO today at Shoot Straight. We all four had a bad experience, and which appears to be a new group of people running Shoot Straight. First off,it all stated less than a hour into our shoot with an attendant coming in and telling Paul that his target was to large for the distance he was shooting at. Attendant to him to run it out to 75 feet. Paul cashed it in and went to management. Next Allen was told that he had to lock tight the gun case when moving from firing area to counter. Not just closing the case. case has to be secured in both directions. He said we have always just closed the lid in each direction. Attendant said to lock both directions. Next Jim Cain was crouched down shooting my Ruger Break Down 22 pistol and an attendant came in and told him to straighten up and no squatting. Jim told him we always did this in the past. Attendant said just to straighten up. Next when I had case my Ruger break down into two pieces and had taken it back to the bench, I was told I could not open the case. I was going to put the lens caps back on the scope while was in case. No matter gun case cannot be opened again unless taken back to the firing line. Next I cannot remember if it was Allen or Paul, but a target they had laid down at the firing line got blown by the A/C onto the range, maybe 4 feet in. Either Allen or Paul used the range shell casing shovel to just reach out and drag it back in. Once again an attendant was right there and read the riot act. I never saw anything like it and you were monitored like NEVER before. Paul had gone to the manager and I went about 20 minutes later. He did not apologize but said it all could be rectified. Don, There was not one single employee in there that we knew. I told the manager this and he said a few had moved on. To make a very long story short we all vowed to never return to Shoot Straight. It was a most horrible range experience that any one of us has had. I just wanted to bring you up to date. Enough is enough. I told the manager about your experience with your lazer sight experience and he just nodded. So, the consensus is that our once a month BSO take place at Reload for the time being while looking for a suitable range closer to everybody. read more
