I visited Deer Hunter Guns for the first time a few weeks ago. When I first walked in I was curious but not prepared to discuss what I was looking for. There were probably 5 or 6 people in the store that I thought were customers. To cut to the chase, they were all friends that enjoy the vibe of this store. Additionally, they were more than ready to answer all of my questions. I never once felt out of place with this group. Further, their knowledge was really interesting. I ended up trading in a Glock for something a little different. I was given a very fair amount for my trade in gun toward my new Smith & Wesson. I was there for quite sometime listening to these knowledgeable gentlemen. I had such a good time that day, and will be seeing them again for any of my questions or to just hang with them. If you stick around in the store long enough, you can catch a story from a old veteran, young veteran, gun experts and all in between. its just a great atmosphere - think of it as Floyds barber shop on the Andy Griffiths show, just with guns! There are a couple types of gun stores. You can go to a big box chain store, like Dicks. Or you can go to a big gun superstore like Shoot Straight. Or you can go to a traditional mom & pop gun store -- like Deer Hunter Guns. This is your traditional old-fashioned gun shop. At any given time you can find "regulars" hanging out in the store and shooting the bull over a cup of coffee. In fact, you are welcome to pull up a chair and stay a while and talk guns. Speaking of guns -- there are lots of them, new and used. Don't let the name fool you, there are plenty of handguns and other long guns beyond hunting rifles. There isn't a lot of holsters, gun safes, or other accessories -- mostly gun guns and ammo. Chuck runs the place after taking over for his Dad. He treats customers they way they should be treated, and always deals fairly with everyone. You can trade in a gun here and not worry about being taken to the cleaners. The first time I walked into Deer Hunter I was asked "want a soda or some coffee?". Who does that? It's just a symbol of how they treat their customers. Really friendly, really helpful and they love to talk about guns. It feels like going to my uncle's house to hang. Their most abundant firearms are rifles. Yes they have some pistols and shotguns but they really specialize in hunting rifles of all kinds. But they can order almost anything for you and are happy to do it. So I decided that I wanted to build an Ar15 lower. So I found the lower I wanted and as you might know it is the only part of an Ar15 that requires a FFL. So after calling around Deer Hunter Guns was both cheaper and convenient because it was on my way home from work. They wanted me to come in and tell them where to fax there FFL info and I don't understand why they made me come in because everyone else just asks you to give them the fax number but I guess they wanted to see me first so I thought whatever they are close to my house. So I went in and said i'm here to give you the fax number for an incoming FFL. They all looked around cluelessly asking hey so-and-so did you speak to anyone on the phone, did you, did you? Then one of the guys said I heard your dad speaking on the phone. The guy then looked at me and said well I can tell you right now my dad doesn't do Ar15 lowers because of the current administration and blah blah blah and they recently had the ATF in blah blah blah. So i told him here is the problem, over the phone you told me this would not be a problem over the phone (Over the phone I clearly stated that it was a stripped Ar15 lower) so i gave your number when i purchased the lower online. He responded with crap, i wonder if they already have our FFL info. I ended up having to change FFL destinations which caused my build to be weeks behind. They seemed like a cool mom and pop sorta gun shop and he did seem sorry for the mistake and that is the only reason I am giving them a two and not a one. read more

This is the best firearms store in Pinellas county, period. They have great southern hospitality, always offering something to drink or eat. They also have super courteous and knowledgeable staff that go out of their way to help you make the best purchase. They purchase used firearms and pay reasonable prices for them.
