I found this CWP class via Groupon after a friend told me they found a Groupon for a class they took. I thought it was a good deal, bought it but when I tried making an appointment on the website, it didn't seem all that clear that the "book appointment now" button was solely for the CWP. Gave the number on their site a call and in the answering message they basically said to book the CWP class via that button and it cleared all doubts. Fine with me, I booked the class on a Sunday for the following Saturday (today) with Lee. I put in ETT into my gps and I was concerned because I didn't see any signs or anything from Park Blvd when I was getting close to the destination - it's just in the back of the building so be mindful of that! The class was two hours as expected. I found Lee to be very engaging and he gave a lot of scenarios which I love - that's how I learn and retain information, so I felt like I was able to take away a lot from this class. I feel like I 100% know my rights when it comes to concealed carry. This class fulfills the requirement to apply for your CWP. This class will not teach you how to take apart your gun or give you hands on experience with a gun. This class is meant to make sure you don't get in trouble while carrying a gun - and that was met. Sure, as some other reviews mention, there are classes out there that are a little more extensive than this and cover more regarding gun use and familiarity, however for the price and frequency these classes are offered, I'd recommend taking this class ASAP, applying for your permit and then finding a nice course that can give you hands on experience with your gun - I have a sig so I'm trying to get into some of their academy classes, but those aren't local and are pretty expensive, so this served the purpose for now! The shooting range line can be a bit chaotic. It all depends on how well the waiting counter is staffed. If you know what you're doing it's a lot of fun. If it's your first time make sure you grab the provided ear and eye protection. Also, ask about getting a paper target. We were not well directed the first time and got scolded. Now we're familiar and it's just a matter of waiting. Once on the range there are staff members present to help you with questions, clearing jams, and other procedural items. All in all it's a good place and entertaining! They also have a great selection of firearms to purchase if you're allowed. read more

I'm not really sure why I took a concealed weapons class, happened to see a Groupon for this, had really nothing to do that day and I wanted to see what the hype about guns is about. I don't own a gun nor have I ever fired one. So I showed up after making an appointment on their website. Basic looking classroom for about 20 or so people. The instructor seemed quite nice. So once the class started he says that everyone has basically passed the class already, unless you leave for most of the class or fall asleep. The course itself was mostly common sense kinda stuff as well as Florida laws concerning concealed weapons. At the end everyone has to fire off a round into a little box, thats it. Then they give you an application for the permit. Class was just under two hours. At the end you get a certificate of completion that certifies that you have successfully completed the course in Basic Firearms and Marksmanship. Like I said I have never fired a gun except this one time, the gun is fixed so that you can only shoot the ammo into this little metal box. So I guess this makes me a marksman now? Well, it's enough for Florida to let me hide a gun in my pants in public. So why three stars? 1.Class is pretty basic, apparently thee are longer more instructive classes out there that range in price, but if you only need bare bones so that you can get a permit, I guess this is the class for you. 2. Wish I could have shot at a target rather than into a box. 3. Instructors are hard to reach by phone, I had several questions to ask but was not able to until I actually showed up to the class. 4. . Do not waste your time with this mickey mouse outfit. I bought the conceal carry class for my wife and father in law and called to get class info which they didn't have. Said he had not put up a schedule for June yet and it was June 6th. I then sent 2 emails asking about the classes and still haven't received a response. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional group of so called firearms professionals in my life. I am a retired Law Enforcement officer and I chose this place because they were suppose to be retired military or law enforcement instructors. Boy was I disappointed this is no way to run a business. As other negative reviews state, you don't go to shooting range --it's not a shooting class -- it is a concealed weapons training class in terms of getting you prepared with the background information about the law and the requirements and how to obtain a permit. You only get to fire a single round in the concealed class but it's still worth it. I got the Groupon and it was so easy to schedule the class and just pull the Groupon up on my phone when I got there. The instructor was great and gives you a no nonsense class of the ins and outs of what you need to know for your concealed permit. Its not a gun class, it's to teach you the legalities of carrying a concealed weapon so I wasn't upset about only getting to fire one round. The number listed was answered with a generic "hello" so I inquired "hi, is this elite tactical"? Male receptionist say's "yes". I say, "okay" and hang up the phone. What a great place to get your CWP. Saw the ad on Groupon and figured sure, why not. 2 hours out of my day ain't bad. Did research and read nothing but good things. The reviews were right. Lee was an awesome instructor. Kept the class interesting, was funny sometimes but straight to the point. Didn't BS or kill time. I hate when I have to give a bad review because supporting local business is what I love however this was bad business. I bought a half off depot cert. for a concealed weapons course for 2. My fiancé and I booked it online for a Tuesday at 12:30 and received a confirmation. The day of (1 hr before our appt.) we both received a text that says the online calendar shouldn't have let us book that date and time. I called mike and he said he didn't know why that happened so I accepted the "computer glitch" I then rescheduled with him on the phone for the following Tuesday at 10am. I emailed mike that morning at 8am to confirm my 10 and he said he was happy I contacted him because he cannot keep that appt. and asked me to reschedule (again). I explained that I took off of work for this and really needed to keep what was already planned and confirmed from the wk before. He then emailed back saying 1pm would work. I emailed back and said ok will be there 1pm. My email contained my phone number his did not (wish businesses would use a phone when it comes to this) My fiancé and I got there at 12:59 and the place was locked and no one was there! I received a text from him at 1pm saying "I'm in meeting" at this point I just knew we wasted our time. I texted him back to "please have integrity" well THAT set him off and I received a very long nasty text back. my fiancé and I were disappointed and couldn't believe how nasty he was to me. All I can say is... I have no clue how the actual class is since we were basically jerked around. Make sure you actually speak to him when scheduling and then ask for a confirmation in writing. A few days before your appt. make sure you call and confirm and again ask for it in writing. Then print all proof and bring with you. (Hopefully he will be there when you show up) read more

I purchased a Groupon For a Demo Shot for 2. I made a reservation online for Saturday, January 4, 2014 and received a detailed confirmation email. When I arrived, the doors were locked. I walked to the back of the building and encountered the owner, Mike. When I told him who I was and what I was there for, he told me I was in the wrong place. He said the website said that the Demo Shoot was at Bill Jacksons. I asked why would I go to Bill Jacksons when my confirmation email said... Location: Down Range Guns & Ammo. 5408 Park Blvd. Pinellas Park, FL 33781 After arguing back and forth I just left. I promptly went to Shoot Straight and was greeted by a friendly staff. Took class last week for the basic training to obtain my CLW and it was awesome!!! Price was very reasonable especially for the information I learned. I absolutely loved the concealed carry permit class I took from this company, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1. I called twice to inquire about another class that they POST ON THEIR WEBSITE, and didn't receive a return call. Then I took the CWP class and the instructor gave me his personal cell number and we agreed that we would speak the next day. I called and left a message---still waiting for a return cal. I don't like to give bad reviews, especially with small, local businesses; however, these guys seriously need to upgrade their customer service drastically. read more

I have been doing business with Mike close to a year now and he has met up to all my expectations on how a business man should act and carry out business. I had purchased a CWP class for my daughter and she loved it and now goes out shooting on her own. My daughter and I went back to purchased a gun for her, Mike & his associate (Lee) was very helpful finding the right gun that My daughter would be comfortable with. I just completed both the concealed weapons permit class and the private firearms training class from these folks and I can't say enough good about them. Very knowledgeable and professional. The permit class was good and he knows a lot of good common sense info to supplement the laws. At the range he was very helpful (and patient)....esp since I haven't touched a firearm in 20+ years.
