It has proven health benefits, including improved balance, coordination, circulation, bone density, and longevity. Taoist tai chi, invented by Moy Lin-Shin around 1970, adapts the 108 moves of Yang-style tai chi to increase tai chi's health benefits. Tai chi has been called "moving meditation." Legend has it that the Chinese martial arts were invented in the sixth century by a Shaolin monk who saw what poor condition the other monks were in after spending all day every day sitting and meditating. Ta Mo invented "the 18-form exercise" that is the ancestor of karate, judo, aikido, etc. Tai chi itself was invented by the 9th-century Taoist philosopher Li Taotsu, who defined the first 37 moves in a book called "The Earlier Heavenly Movements." As practiced and taught by the St. Petersburg branch of TTCS, Taoist tai chi is a practice with proven health benefits and psychic rewards. The instructors are knowledgeable, professional, and generous, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Best of all, TTCS is a volunteer organization dedicated to promoting the health benefits of tai chi, meaning that your contributions are tax-deductible. No instructor is paid. The facility is staffed and maintained by volunteers. The Society is active in the Crescent Lake community.

I moved to Florida and wanted to continue my Tai Chi journey; lucky for me, I found the Chinese Martial Arts Center. Master Scrima is the real deal and a great teacher. I learned to stand, walk, breathe naturally, move my body most efficiently, and defend myself. Master Scrima explains the how and why of every movement and history of martial arts - a complete education. I learn something every day about myself, even in my daily practice. Over the years, I've had the honor of earning my black belt in 2019 and winning two Grand Champion titles at the International Chinese Martial Arts Championship--accomplishments I wouldn't have achieved without the incredible guidance and support of this school. More than just a place to train, this school is a family. I met my husband here when we were kids, and I've built lifelong friendships and connections that go beyond training. The instructor and students create an environment that pushes you to be the best version of yourself while fostering a deep appreciation for martial arts. I'm incredibly grateful to be part of such a dedicated and supportive community, and I highly recommend this school to anyone looking to grow both in skill and in character.

Quirkiest yoga class I've ever taken. LOVED IT. Deep stretch with groove, almost like a dance,…read moremixed with some tai chi and even a bit of yin yoga in between. Hard to explain, just TRY IT! I did the 90s class through ClassPass and it was so fun. Upbeat instructor with good energy - very friendly and welcoming. Made me feel like I was a regular already even though it was my very first class. Studio could have been a bit cleaner though. The floor beneath my bare feet felt gritty/dusty. I'm used to the spotless Tree of Life Yoga studio in South Pasadena so my standards may be too high. Other than that, a very unique yoga experience that I would love to repeat. It's unfortunate it is located a bit far from where I live or I would be going more often with my ClassPass.

All muscle groups! It was so amazing, thank you so much Emily! I learned new stretches I had never even heard before from PT's that really helped me release pain everywhere, including my jaw, hip flexors, ears, and shoulders. She also records and posts her instruction for every class in a Facebook group, and I'm happy I can go check out the new stretches I learned before the next class to help eliminate pain during the week. Loved this class, will be back every Sunday! Thank you again!
