Their hibachi is some of the best in R.I. but the service is what this place is about. No matter which chef you get they have their own fantastic personalities and sometimes play off of each other or off of guests from neighboring tables. It's dark, which I'm used to in a hibachi atmosphere but it never ceases to give me a headache when I strain to look at the drink menu. I ordered the chicken and shrimp and my partner got the filet and shrimp. We also shared a plate of garlic noodles and it was salty but the perfect accompaniment to the sweet sake martini I was drinking. She does a great job managing - the bar & restaurant run flawlessly, the whole staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is absolutely delicious. I came here the other night with my husband, my Dad, and some friends. Everyone loved the food and the experience (we had a couple first-time hibachi people). We ordered everything from filet mignon and lobster to scallops, shrimp, & chicken. All of it was tender, juicy perfection. The garlic noodles and fried rice are must-order items as well. The ginger sauce is so good I pretty much pour it over everything, and I still hope that one day they will tell me what is in it. You can't go wrong at Shogun. Haven't been here in over 15 years and now I know why. The food is substantially less than par, almost inedible. Portions were huge, but not helpful when it doesn't taste good. We ended up throwing almost 2 full boxes out when we got home. SUPER EXPENSIVE. And on Fri and Sat nights they only offer white rice and not fried rice with Hibachi. We sat at the bar because our main thing was lets get liquored up, it was one of those days or week lets say lol. The drink menu was pretty decent with a lot of fancy names along with the usual beers and wines. She got the Pink Lady and I got the Asian Melon which was a sake cocktail. For $8-$9 you cant go wrong. For apps I always have to try dumplings/gyozas. You have to order the chicken gyoza. One of the best Ive tried so far. For dinner I just ordered the steak and shrimp. Its a typical hibachi dish. It was diff as the fried rice came as one vs separate for the both of us but we didnt complain. Recently renovated. Full size beautiful bar. Problem is, there is NO place to DINE. The only option is hibachi or bar. The tables in the bar are high top, which is to say if you are under 5'8" you feel like you need a booster. Very loud, not good for any conversation that doesn't involve yelling from 2 feet away. I've been here many times now, mostly for special occasions as several of my kids are big fans. Love the food and the chefs are always personable and put on a good show. The cons are it's very noisy, conversation is difficult so not a place to go for date night and frankly the ventilation could be better. You'll come out of the place smelling of hibachi. I don't recommend this business because they offer call ahead seating but when I called they basically told me That they can't do much other than take my name and if I get there with no other parties waiting to be seated then I would be seated. I ask so then I should just walk in since calling ahead didn't put you over or a walk in. She said "yes". So then do not advertise you have a call ahead service when it won't get you anywhere. Reservations were at 7 and we were seated at 8:59! No place is worth the wait, especially when the food was just average! The swordfish was very dry and I was told that the kitchen did not cut the swordfish think enough. Amazing! The food here is simply amazing. I've been to a few other hibachi places in RI and Shogun is my favorite. I always order the Filet Mignon and chicken. The steak is so soft and juicy. I have a seafood allergy but they accommodate me and prepare the shrimp at the end of the meal so that it doesn't touch my food. The portions are huge! Enough for a whole other meal afterwards. The chefs are all friendly and put on a great show. Come during the week (Monday-Thursday) and the fried rice is included with your meal. Try the fried ice cream at the end if you have room for it. And I know what you're thinking "How could hibachi really be bad?" But, to my dismay, it was in fact bad. They ran out of lobster, the hostesses were rude and the food wasn't good. Everything in general was just way too salty, the salad dressing had an after taste, the soup was too salty to eat, the yum yum sauce was pure mayonnaise, the vegetables were pretty much raw, and the shrimp and scallops were over cooked. It was just overall not good and it was the same price as an actually delicious, nice hibachi restaurant. Will not be coming back. Ok......Been using yelp for years.....here is my first review....Had reservations for 12 or 14 people....staff very friendly and good at getting us settled in 2 hibachi tables. First thing that caught my attention is on weekends they only serve white rice with the hibachi menu. Ok 25$ for the scallop hibachi and then paid extra to upgrade to fried rice. In the end our party of 14 added 5 fried rice and 3 garlic noodles at a cost of...umm not sure. now the food.....2 weird little plastic sauce cups placed in front of each person tasted each...not a fan....set them aside. then came out the white rice for everyone 14 bowls....wait a minute you guys just talked us into a 5 fried rice upgrade lol.....The scallops were cooked good. They were nice and big and tasted pretty fresh. The fried rice and garlic noodles were just "ok" they seemed prepared in a rush and then thrown at you. They were just heated up and stirred around with the added prepared sauce. the show was just ok......no sake squirted into the mouth.....no tossing food up to catch.....that was kind of a bummer cause it always fun exchange. my only gauge to compare this experience to is KON in East Greenwich which I have been to twice and have enjoyed and for the $600 pricetag at showgun (not many dinks wine and beer one round for maybe 7 of us) I would say go there or elsewhere. There were four of us and we decided against the hibachi and stuck with the dining room. It was quiet and had a tv. We ordered tasty drinks made with all kinds of different rum and sake combos. If you're comparing this place to the other Hibachi places around I can tell you that everyone tells me Shogun is the best. Which is why I came here. So yeah, get some Saki, pull up to the table, which you'll share will a bunch of other people, and watch your food get cooked in front of you. Our guy wasn't particularly coordinated. He kept dropping stuff while he was showing off, but overall the throwing of the food and the fire was all very entertaining. My only complaint, if I'm being honest, is that the food wasn't that good and it was about $30 per person. I mean you definitely get a whole lot of food, but besides the entertainment, I'd prefer to actually eat somewhere else. Ordered takeout from here last night. Very underwhelmed. We got filet and shrimp hibachi, which is a shocking $35 per plate, and it just tasted like regular old steak, and slightly over-cooked. Also, two of the three plates had only two tiny pieces of shrimp. The fourth person in our party ordered just filet and his plate was $26 - so I essentially paid $9 more for two pieces of small crappy shrimp. We've been wanting to go for a while. My wife and I took out two kids age 9 and 6. We got there pretty close to opening and glad we did because the place was pretty full within a half hour. The best hibachi restaurant around! Though it tends to get very busy, I promise the wait is worth it. Reservations are accepted so you can avoid the wait by calling ahead. All of the food is great quality as well as being very fresh and the portions are huge. The chefs put on an excellent show while cooking your dinner and the wait staff is super attentive and very friendly. The restaurant was recently remodeled and now has a huge bar. Whether your waiting for a table or just want to eat at the bar, it's very comfortable and the service is always fantastic. I went on a date night with my Fiancé this past weekend here. I wanted to try a new hibachi place. The place was busy but we were still able to be seated. We started off with the traditional clear soup. Normally this is my favorite but here it just was not good. It tasted fishy to me and not in a good way. Then the salads came and I don't eat salad but my fiancé said it was good. For dinner I ordered Filet and Shrimp. The Filet was cooked PERFECTLY and melted in your mouth and was delicious. Shrimp were also cooked great. Our chef was fun and awesome and I loved that he asked if we wanted things before he cooked them for us. For example: when cooking the mushrooms he asked if we wanted them rather than just putting them on my plate as my fiancé hates them. Here in Rhode Island visiting my son who's at Johnson & Wales. We're used to great food in NJ, so our expectations were high. Shogun did not disappoint. The only detractor was the wait was a bit longer than they said it would be, but it was worth it. The food was plentiful and delicious. We were surprised that the hibachi noodles and rice were extra, but one order of rice fed 4 people and 3 orders of noodles was more than enough for 6 of us. So far this has been my least favorite hibachi restaurant I've been to. I was incredibly disappointed to find out I would have to pay about $7 extra for fried rice because it was the weekend. The fried rice is the best part of the meal!! My hibachi chicken was already almost $20, why would I spend even more to get something that should be included!
