I went to Shogun today at 6pm, party of two. There were not many customers. One hibachi table had a family already seated, so the hostess had us sit with them. Another hibachi table had a group. No other customers. When we ordered our drinks, we were told the bartender wasn't there for 20 min. We ordered tofu appetizer. The drinks came before the 20 minutes, those were good. The appetizer came when we were half finished eating, therefore they took it back. The chef didn't interact much with our table customers. He quickly cooked the food and served. We had to ask for the dipping sauces, which didn't have much flavor. The soup was okay, but the salad dressing was too watery with not much flavor. My husband and I LOVE to come to Shogun for lunch! It's our go-to spot any day! He loves the sushi rolls and their raw food. I love their hibachi plates. Today we had the Crunch dog , the Houston roll and a chicken and white fish hibachi plate. The sushi rolls were delicious and just what we fell in love with the first time we came a month ago! The sushi chef is so consistent, we love it! The hibachi plate was great, the meat portions are abundant! Food is FIVE STARS!! The reason for two less stars THIS visit was because of the "waitress" that spent our entire meal standing next to our table talking loudly about her week to her co-worker... it was rude, annoying and disrespectful. Service was efficient, friendly, and kind/honest (they held on to my phone when I left it at the table). The food was a big disappointment. The Teppenyaki Steak ($18) was warm, flavorless, and overpriced. Came for lunch with my boyfriend. There was only 1 server, and 2 other customers in the restaurant. Decor was nice and place seemed clean. However, the quality of the sushi was terrible and not fresh. Seems like they cut costs, and are holding onto fish that should not be served to the public. A shame considering that it's in a great location and beautifully decorated. We ordered the salmon sashimi, toro sashimi, and something else I can't remember. I could have drowned a rat in the amount of dressing left in my bowl after I ate the 2 pieces of lettuce that were in there. (not that I would drown a rat, or anything else for that matter.) The Chicken Yakitori was so dry that I thought maybe it was chicken jerky, or supposed to be like chicken jerky? Not sure, but the sauce was extremely salty and was maybe just soy sauce with a lot of corn starch and more salt. Really, even the water tasted funny. I was not thrilled at all. Within the well-developed Pearland Town Center, there are many options for restaurants. Shogun is at the main entrance of the shopping plaza facing 518. They offer hibachi or regular seating. The decor is modern and all about abstract textures, like bright blue and green lights to contrast the stacked rock surfaces. The bento boxes and sushi rolls each had photos to help visualize your meal. The rice entrees came with some green onion soup and salad with Japanese dressing. The soup was so-so. Offeing an option for miso soup would have been better for those not inclined towards this taste. Shogun had the best spicy calamari I've had in a really long time. The squid was plump and tasty and that chipotle sauce is killer. I had the Boston roll and tried some of the teriyaki chicken rice entree. Both were delicious. The roll was particularly filling and tasted good the next day as well. The rice was made well and it was an enjoyable meal. The drinks came out fast; the chef was entertaining and a good cook. The food portions were big as expected and the everything tasted great! I got the salmon and fried rice. The rice had the perfect (somewhat) sticky texture for chopsticks and my salmon had a slightly sweet flavor that complimented the salmon's natural flavor (just the way I like it to). The prices were about par for what you got, too. The Spider Roll was a good size, the crab was fried nicely. The Shaggy Dog, for $9.95, was well worth it with 8 pieces. The Bento Box was very good, as was the soup. It wasn't too salty. The vegetables were actually the best part of the Bento Box and for $9 you got a lot of food. The teriyaki chicken had a nice crunch to it and a good flavor and the rice was sticky enough to be able to use chopsticks. The California Roll pieces that come with it were kind of bland, but then again, it's the most basic sushi roll you can get. The egg roll and crab puff were kind of bland with very little crab taste, mostly cream cheese, in the crab puff. You can do better than Shogun, but you can do worse, too. We went to Shogun this afternoon for a late lunch. When we walked in we noticed the tables were not set up for social distancing but we were like okay we will go with it, no big deal. Later we noticed the manager and the sushi chef were not wearing masks. The waitress wore one but not properly it was pulled down under her nose. Once they started bring out the appetizer plates I noticed one plate wasnt even clean. It was greasy and it looked like someone just ate off of it. At that point we called the manager over and told him about what we just witnessed and how we were happy to pay for our drinks but we couldn't stay and eat. Obviously efforts are not being made so people can safely eat here. I don't mean to sound like a Karen but you could be the cause for a lot of people getting sick when you dont follow safety practices especially in the middle of a pandemic. First, our server took forever to greet us and get me my drinks, along with silverware. Again, no big deal. It happens. What set the alarm off for me was the B grade that was boldly posted inside of the front door, not facing outside for the guests to see. The food was definitely B grade. Flavorless, not cooked correctly or in my case, not cooked at all. I'm now sick due to the raw chicken and probably shrimp I was served on the dirtiest grill I've ever seen. Do yourself a favor.
