The tuna is delicious and it tastes very fresh. The house salad has the traditional hibachi ginger dressing. All day Tuesday and Thursday they run the lunch prices on a pretty hefty list of rolls- definitely worth a trip, if you can snack before and stand to wait 45 min for your food. read more

Came in around 9:00 on a Friday night and the place was as dead as a doornail. That should have been the first clue to run. We chose hibachi and were seated a hibachi table where an employee was sitting at the other end wrapping silverware and staring at us. We sat there for easily 10-15 minutes in awkward silence, and nobody bothered to even take our drink order. A chef kept staring at us from the kitchen door window. Then maybe 10 min later we got salad and soup with no forks but the waitress was nowhere to be found. Our drinks were empty. Finally we get our food. And it was cold! This is one of my favorite sushi places, even moreso because it's so close to home. My husband and I have been coming here for a few years now and can't understand why it's never crowded in there. I live in the area and have frequented Shogun for many years. Lat month, I went once for lunch, and once for dinner, and let me tell you that the service is HORRIBLE!!!! I'll start with the fact that both times, there were only 2 other tables seated in the place, and it took FOREVER for a server to come over to take our drink order. When one finally decided to come over, she asked if we were ready to order. I think they wait to come over until they feel that you are ready to order, so they don't have to come over twice. Both times we were, however, ready to order, so we ordered our appetizer, drinks, and entrees all at the same time. Both times, the food took forever, so I looked for our waitress to ask what the problem was (because we ordered an app and wanted to see if she forgot) and here she comes with our entrees. HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU FORGET TO PUT IN AN APPETIZER? Not only is it poor customer service, but your business is losing money because of lazy staff that aren't putting in orders. I asked the waitress where our app was, and she said "Oh"...not sorry! I told her to forget it, and grabbed my fork to dig in. The food was COLD! How on earth was my food cold?!? I'll tell you why....LAZY staff that are rude and forgetful, that do not take the time to walk the couple of steps to the kitchen to pick up the food that they actually put in! When we were through with our dinner, we asked for the check. She put it down, and I reached for it to see if the app was on there (it wasn't). I then took out my wallet, reached in, pulled out my money to count it out, and she was BACK to see if I was ready to pay! The nerve! Wasn't around for the whole meal, messed everything up, but when it came to her tip, she was all over me! I will never, ever return here again! Went here for date night the other week because a co worker said it was delicious. Service was a little slow (and it wasn't that busy), but it was so worth it. Had the most amazing bowl of Udon here for lunch today. As I worked my way through the bowl, I kept discovering things that I had no idea were in the soup. Finish the shrimp? Went there with my wife on Sunday for dinner. Ordered 3 dishes of sushi. They looked good but tasted not fresh. Just better than what you can find in the grocery store. Didn't try Hibachi, have no idea whether it is good or not. If you have high expectation about great sushi, try somewhere else. This was the worst service I have ever received in my life. The one waitress was so rude and dismissive right from the drink orders (should've assumed that was just the beginning) then when ordering entrees, my mother ordered the shrimp tempura entree and that's all it said- "shrimp tempura entree with soup, a salad, and rice". No description, and no explanation of what this entree consists of from the negligent server, we just assumed it would just be shrimp tempura.. Entrees come out with tempura vegetables underneath the shrimp, I asked if any of them were mushroom and how it didn't say it came with vegetables on the menu and the male who works up at the front, don't know if he was the manager or what have you, said "yes". Highly allergic, I explained how it didn't say it came with vegetables on the menu and my mom couldn't eat that now. Annoyed- he left the plate on the table as our server head to the table. Explaining that when someone is allergic to something it cannot touch other food one is about to consume, seemed too complex for the server to understand, she got aggravated and said "well they already made it" and I said "okay well you didn't tell us that something else came along with the entree, wasn't written in the menu that it came with that, or else I would have told you when ordering that she was allergic and couldn't have mushrooms" so she asked me "what do you want me to do" (okay?) I said "make me another dish?" She rudely fired back with "okay well you're gonna wait now". Worst service I've ever received. That server should get fired as the two surrounding tables couldn't even believe her attitude and how she handled that situation, on top of the fact that I don't know anyone who would want that type of service given in their restaurant. Terrible experience, will NOT be back! New leaf is better and just down the road with far better customer service. read more

This was the worst experience at a sushi restaurant that I've ever had. You'd think that with four children, one of whom was a baby, that there would be some urgency to the service. But then you'd be wrong. There was ample seating in the restaurant, but it took 10 minutes to seat us. It took another 15 minutes for them to ask for our drink orders. That's when we should have left. The food was brought out haphazardly at seemingly random intervals. The sushi was mediocre and very difficult to eat with chopsticks as it fell apart easily. Went here the other night for hibachi and had a solid time. They started off with miso soup and a salad. Both were fine and quite fresh. Next was the rice with fried egg which was delicious. For my main course I got filet and shrimp. The filet was amazing and cooked medium rare like I asked. The shrimp was equally delicious. Our chef was not as entertaining as some hibachi chefs but did a nice job cooking. Have also had the sushi here which is great and inexpensive. 4 stars and it's right down the street. read more

My family and I ate here for the first time tonight. I'm giving it one star because the service we received tonight WAS HORRIBLE! It is nice that they have a full service bar, but they did not understand my girlfriend's drink order (She tried ordering a Cosmo Martini). Expected a little better from this place since it has been around for so long. For starters the sign outside said 1/2 price sushi all day Monday and Tuesday, but when we got the menu, and yes only one menu for two of us, the sushi was discounted but NOT half price. It took about 10 minutes for a waitress to come to our table and she was not very pleasant. She just asked what she could get us, didn't even take a drink order and almost left the table without getting one. We asked for no mushrooms on my husbands dish bc he has an allergy which I stated to her, but right after she came back with salad and MUSHROOM soup! We each ordered a roll for an app. I got the eel and avocado roll and my husband got the spicy salmon. I was less then impressed with both especially mine. There was barely any rice on either roll and the eel was pretty much non existent. Our hibachi meals took much longer then I expected them to. The portions were pretty good but that doesn't matter when they are tasteless. I thought maybe our food, especially our sushi was a fluke, but looking around I saw pretty much the same thing at all the tables. Apparently the table behind us wasn't super pleased with their service either bc I heard the gentleman ask for something they had been waiting for, then 10 minutes later he got up and walked back with another server while telling her they were still waiting. Shogun 3 is a restaurant specializing in Japanese cuisine. It offers an assortment of sushi, sashimi, and hibachi dishes to the customers. Many people come specifically for the sushi and bring their friends and/or family to come and enjoy it for half the price on Mondays and Tuesdays. The employees are quiet, polite, and friendly people who work hard at what they do. The waiters, waitresses, and chefs are close with one another and joke around with one another from time to time. If you are a long-time customer, it is likely that your waiter/waitress will remember you after a few visits, creating a friendly environment. A quiet, calm atmosphere can be found in Shogun 3. There is no music playing in the restaurant and the customers and employees tend to speak softly. The restaurant is divided into three parts. First, the tables with individual chairs, next, the booths, and finally the hibachi tables. While there is plenty of room for each person in, both, the booths and hibachi tables, the tables with individual chairs are more on the claustrophobic side. When you pull out your chair, it often bumps up against the one behind you. Despite this issue, the restaurant has nice lighting and decor. Between the sushi and hibachi, it is easy to spend a decent amount of money. However, the half priced sushi on Mondays and Tuesdays is a customer favorite and you are likely to find the restaurant filled with people. The flavors and quality of the food live up to the price of the food and that is what keeps the customers coming back again and again. Skinny: Shogun 3 earns a solid four out of five stars in my book because of the delicious food and good service. As soon as you walk in through the front doors, you are greeted by a welcoming smile. All of the people who work at Shogun 3 are hard workers and put time and effort into making their food and providing good service. However, I would not give this restaurant a perfect five out of five because of some of the seating issues. DON"T BOTHER WITH SHOGUN ! It's nothing special. First off if you don't know someone who has been to Shogun 3 you will probably not find it. The restaurant is hidden in the strip mall. The service was pretty awful. No one was friendly and it seemed like they were rushed and would scamper away from the table as quickly as possibly. Definitely a language barrier going on as well. We ordered 2 appetizers from the main menu and some rolls from the half price menu. The apps were pretty good calamari and dumplings. The rolls were ok. I've seen people rave about how good the sushi is and I have def had better in other places and better service! The main reason why I will not recommend this restaurant is this: They will charge you for gettting a to go box. I was pretty full after my meal and I had about 3 pieces of sushi left so i asked for a box to take them home. The one waiter went to grab and get it and when our actual came to take our plates I said "oh i asked for a box for those to take home so don't take my plate away yet." You'd think i insulted him by the look of shock on his face. He said you have to pay extra to take it home. EXCUSE ME? They charged us a dine in price for our meal . I then asked if this was a buffet because then I totally get why it is frowned upon to take it home. You're going to charge me extra for 3 small pieces of sushi?! I ate 95% of the meal in the restaurant! The worst part was that the other waiter came by and had the box for me and our waiter held him back from giving it to me. Seriously? we're gonna split hairs here? NO WHERE ON THE MENU DOES IT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IN HOUSE PRICE. If it said so on the main menu about dine in price only then I missed it. A great place with great service. What can I say, when my parents used to live in Havertown and I was at the time working for the nearby staples I would always drop in during my meal break after ordering ahead with either an order of their steamed gyoza (a super solid choice with nice thin coats and delicious meats inside) or a randomly chosen Lunch Special if I was working a morning shift. The foods there never disappointed me, and even when my mom would go out of state to visit my sister me and my father would swing by sometimes (we could only go then because my mother has a severe shellfish allergy), and I would usually start off with my usual steamed gyoza and then either order sushi (which by the way, their sushi and sashimi dishes are GREAT and the shrimp tempura is to die for), or I would get the lobster tail with jasmine rice which would come in the lobster tail with crab meat, shrimp, and scallops and my dad would order something similar. They are also one of the few places in the area where you can get ramune (Those Japanese soda's with the marble ontop) which is another plus. The only complaint one could give is that meals are a bit on the pricey side (though that's to be expected for such a place) and timing can be a bit off, but otherwise this is definitely a place I would recommend to anyone in the area who wants some Japanese food. read more

Some friends of mine discovered this place by exploring the Philadelphia area when they first moved here last fall. They took me here once and I was hooked. We've been back several times. I've only ever had sushi here, and it could be that it's really the only place I get my sushi for now, but I think they do a really nice job.
