This is an update review: This is a special thank you to Michelle. She needs a bonus or a raise of a cake with her picture on it, and I will explain why. She already helped my wife with shoes that slipped in the recent past, so I decided to go back to the Shoe Mill when I had the same issue with a new pair of shoes, and guess who was there again. So, what makes Michelle great at her job and stand out above the rest, she is a creative problem solver. She didn't just point me in the direction of the insoles, which there is a small wall full. The insoles were not cushiony, I really thought it was going to be a bust before Michelle came to save the day. I didn't need hard supportive insoles, I needed as she put it, to take up space. This also added cushion, which is what I wanted. I should add she remembered both my wife and I, and my wife's very unique shoes.... That's impressive. My shoes felt great and no longer slipped in the back. I will come back for any issues with fit, only because of Michelle. I work 12-14 hours on my feet. By the end of the day I was in a tremendous amount of foot and leg pain. I just figured that's what happens when you stand a lot...when my feet began to wake me with stabbing pain, I knew something had to change. I took a chance and went to Shoe Mill in Washington Square. The manager showed me a pair of Dansko Paisley shoes and told me these will definitely make a difference. That was an understatement!!!! No more aching feet and legs, my end-of-day attitude is MUCH better and.... no more stabbing nighttime pain! Sir, you changed my world, and I thank you sooo much for that! Was actually in the area for dinner last Friday but had been wanting a pair of light-hiking shoes; stopped in not knowing anything about the place. Was greeted immediately by staff and Shane pointed me in the right direction. He could not have been more personable, knowledgeable and helpful. A little pricier than I prefer, but you get what you pay for. And what I walked out with worked well for what I needed and should last a good while. It's always been a challenge to find a pretty feminine shoe that provides a quality footbed for all day wear. The Shoe Mill carries a generous selection of higher quality shoes in styles ranging from outdoor river running and hiking to comfortable, casual and well made dressier shoes. I'm always lucky and find at least one selection to take home with me. Sometimes I've even gone home with 3 pair. Love stopping in when I'm passing through town. This location. I'm not sure I will ever go anywhere else to buy my shoes... Joseph, one of the managers, provided customer service "par excellance". I had intended to buy one pair of shoes and walked out with three because he was able to show me SO many shoes that worked for my unusual 11.5" Narrow feet! His knowledge about the shoes, the shoe companies, how a shoe fits a foot, how to care for them, etc... I don't need to say anymore except that I hope he is well compensated because he provides some of the best customer service I've ever experienced in retail. I came in yesterday to look around and received a lukewarm greeting from one sales person. I was the only customer in the store. Three sales people were gathered by the register and seemed wholly uninterested in being helpful. I think I recall one totally lounging in the chair at one point and, out of the corner of my eye, I saw another sales person taking a picture of another posing. It's not that I enjoy being badgered by sales people but I do appreciate being greeted and offered assistance. I have no interest in ever returning here despite some interesting looking brands/shoes that are carried here (so 2 stars alone for shoe selection and location). read more

Great experience! And a great selection of sandals and running/walking shoes! A few weeks ago I called this store to ask about shoes for a foot problem I was having...I spoke with the manager, Joseph Fairbanks, who was really helpful, kind, and professional...when I got to the store, he had already picked out 2 shoes he thought would be good (in addition to having the shoes I'd asked for ready to try). I ended up buying a completely different pair after trying on a few brands...love my Hoka shoes! And inserts! Even though I took forever trying and deciding on the shoes...Joseph was knowledgeable and laid back...answering my million questions patiently and never pushed me to make a decision right away or to buy a more expensive brand...in fact, he kept showing me items on sale and tried to help me find shoes that fit my budget! If I could give the store no stars I would. The sales people are incredibly snobby. I went in today hoping to buy some sandals. I found all three sales people unhelpful. The salesman who was 'assisting' me today was super condescending and told me my feet were not a good shape for Birkenstocks despite my having mentioned that I've been wearing Birkenstocks for years with no problems and I love them. He said "your toes are too short and your feet are too wide for Birkenstocks". Nice way to get customers to buy merchandise from your store: criticize their bodies! As I was leaving the store I approached another salesman and mentioned to him that the salesman who would been 'assisting' me had been very rude and the second salesman simply shrugged deeply and said "have a good day". Honestly folks, he SHRUGGED at me. I will never shop at a Shoe Mill again, but I would highly recommend customers steer clear of this location. read more

Stopped in today to exchange my Blundstones in size and Joseph, the store manager, helped me out. What an experience! He truly is GREAT. He was so thorough with sizing my foot, going into detail about Blundstone sizing and was incredibly patient with me as I asked 20 million questions. I left feeling confident in my new size I had in shoe and like I had received incredible service! He truly made it an enjoyable time. I will definitely be back for some more shoes! I came here on whim just the other day, looking for some more comfortable work shoes. After looking around for a bit, a male employee finally approached and asked what I was looking for. It seemed that after i explained my budget he did a complete 180. As a barista, I need something a lot more comfortable than the shoes I have. He proceeded to give me these backhanded 'compliments' in regards to the size of my feet, saying things very insulting and rude, which is something I wasn't expecting from a man trying to get a sale. Wow! Visited this store for the first time this afternoon and was just blown away by the great service we received. My husband was looking for some new shoes - he needed to replace a few pairs and was looking for quality, comfort and style. We were greeted within moments of entering the store, the assistant manager asked us if we would like help or just to browse - we told her "serious browsing" and she was very nice and said let any of the staff know when we were ready to try some shoes. Once my hsband had made his selections, the staff was very prompt in bringing out his size and helping him with fit and explaining to him the features of each pair. Our salesperson even suggested a pair of arch supports to help customize the fit of one pair of shoes. We ended up with 4 pairs of shoes and a new destination for our future shoe needs. read more

I just don't have enough good things to say about the staff and products here at the Shoe Mill! I've been in a couple times in the past few months in search of two perfect travel pairs of shoes, and not only do they have that rare combination of cute and comfortable that I was so set upon finding, but their staff went above and beyond to help me with my dream. I saw a pair on their website that I thought might be perfect but had weird European sizing, and they shipped it in from another store for me to try on, along with having other alternatives if it didn't work reserved at the ready. After visiting several other "comfort" shoe specialty stores around the area, I can say with confidence that Shoe Mill is by far the best, and send everyone asking about my fabulous new shoes their way. I went to the Bridgeport Shoe Mill on Sunday in search of a shoe that would work well with my articulating orthopedic boot. I had visited and contacted several other stores before calling and speaking with Andrew Holmes. He was very knowledgeable and polite. After speaking with him I decided to go to the Bridgeport store and see what I could find. I am extremely happy with the level of customer service and knowledge I received from Andrew Holmes. He was very helpful and patient while I figured out which shoe was the best fit for me and the situation I'm in. I strongly recommend shopping at this Shoe Mill and ask for Andrew. Having been recently diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, I went to the Bridgeport Shoe Mill in search of appropriate summer sandals. While I did find a suitable pair of shoes, I was very disappointed in the service I received. The clerk was so arrogant that I came very close to walking out. I felt belittled because I was wearing the wrong shoe size. Likely true, but could you perhaps be diplomatic. The clerk found the "perfect" shoe for me, a bedazzled sandal that looked like a fugitive from Chicos. When I told him it was not to my taste, he told me that I simply needed to stop buying shoes based on appearance. Since then, I happened to be traveling in Medford where my daughter in law recommended Paradise Shoes. I really was going to just let this whole dismal episode go, but Paradise was such a different experience that I have to comment. Apparently you don't have to be arrogant to educate and assist customers. read more

WOW!!! I have never purchased a pair of shoes from a more professional, knowledgable and conscientious salesman than Joseph Fairbanks who is the manager at the Bridgeport location. Joseph took great care to teach my sister and me about the construction and quality of each shoe and which shoe would be the best fit for me for my travel needs as well as my foot challenges. He even taught us about the history of each shoe company and the manner in which each shoe is constructed for specific purposes. He personally cut corrective insoles for me to fit my shoes in order to help aid the pain my neuroma causes, and then he waterproofed my shoes. Joseph was an absolute joy to work with, as he was so kind, attentive, intelligent, knowledgable, helpful and friendly! I just got a standing desk at work, and need office shoes that are professional and nice that I can stand in all day. They didn't have something at the store that would work for me. The clerk asked if she could help, and I asked her about other styles. She used it as an opportunity to be insulting. I complained and the company took very quick action. I bought a pair of Eric Michaels boots in Mid Nov 2017, loved them immediately and wore them often, one day shortly after purchase, unfortunately it was raining (in Oregon!) and the the rain stained the leather. I was not able to get back in to talk about it until mid January. Katie the assistant store manager was fabulous. First I asked if there was a product to restore the shoes as the fit and style were perfect. After some thinking and checking, it was determined that there was another pair in the region and that she could do an exchange even two months after purchase. I could not believe it! I was hoping for some polish or something and I get a new pair of shoes! I bought the rain proof product and another leather cleaner, and just had to wait for the new shoes to arrive. A pair arrived but Katie did not think the quality of the leather matched my original boots and so she called me- asked for another day so she could get another pair. Today, she showed me both pairs and let me pick the ones I liked best. I have NEVER received such positive customer service anywhere! The communication all along was kind and informative.
