    The moa

Pretty good sandwich spot in Koloa. We were in the area after doing a humid and exhausting hike and thought a sandwich would be good. It's in a neat shopping center with tons of other stores and restaurants, which is convenient. Lots of parking as well. It was not very busy on a Tuesday morning. I got the Moa, which was delicious. I like blue cheese and onions together and this sandwich had both! I was also eyeballing the caprese but wanted something with some protein. Takes about 10-15 minutes for the order to be ready but there are plenty of places to shop or sit and wait.

We chose to try Shipwreck because of the convenience of location. The reviews were mixed, so we figured we'd see for ourselves. Unfortunately we can't say much to combat the negative reviews. I called them at 10:15am to see if we could pre order, no answer- so we drove down there. I understand that rent is high around here, but these were weak sandwiches for the price. There's so much potential there with some of their menu items, and they use Boar's Head meats, plus great location. The service at the counter was almost comical, the communication between the 2, then 3, people working wasn't great. The flavors were not there, the menu is small, and skimping on protein is the first thing customers notice. I'd like to add that while I waited 25 min for 2 sandwiches, and 1 kids PB&J- I saw that the sandwich bread was in a bag on the ground, literally next to a pair of shoes. Yum! We won't return.

    Greek Salad

Shipwreck is a solid lunch spot in Koloa. My husband had the Going Full Ham sandwich (Ham, Gruyere Cheese, Pickled Onion, Shredded Romaine with Pineapple Relish on Toasted French Bread) and really enjoyed it! I had a taste, and it was totally not my vibe, but that's ok! I had the Greek salad (Mixed Greens Tossed with Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Green Peppers, Kalamata Olives, Red Onions, Feta Cheese and Red Wine Vinaigrette). It was pretty good, but nothing special. It was nice to have some fresh veggies during our vacation foods of mostly fish and fruit :) Once our order was placed, it took about 25 minutes to come out. There were only a few people who came in after us, so I'm not sure if they had a lot of online orders or what. Once we ordered, they directed us to sit and wait at the picnic table outside. I would love to return and try one of the sandwiches!

Great sandwiches! The girl taking our order was very friendly. The sandwiches are around $17 each, but they're pretty big you can share or save 1/2 for later which we did. We got The Beast and The First Class Upgrade which were both very flavorful. The store was cute inside and you can't beat that location. There's a picnic table right outside the store to sit and eat. Overall, would recommend!

The Bird Smoked Turkey, Munster Cheese, Young Lettuce and Cranberry Cream Cheese on Toasted French Bread $17

I found the Shipwreck online when searching for a local sandwich shop. I was surprised to see that there were no reviews on Yelp. $17 for a sandwich is steep, however we love Boar's Head deli meat so we decided to give it a try. I ordered The Bird - turkey sandwich. It was delicious but has about 1/2 of the meat as pictured in their website. The bread was toasted and mine was a little hard. I loved the cranberry cream cheese it was tangy and contrasted the dry bread. My husband ordered The Moa - Buffalo chicken and he loved it. He bread wasn't as hard as mine. He said he would order it again with light arugula. The Local Style Potato Mac Salad was delicious too. With drinks, and a bag of chips our lunch was a little over $50. The sandwiches are large sized and we could have split them with our side items. Service: The gal at the register didn't speak to us. It was a little odd. We weren't greeted, and I asked if I could place an order. There was one person that had ordered before us. She got her sandwich about 10 minutes before we did. The wait felt a little long. Seating: No inside seating. There one blue picnic table that we shared with another couple outside of the shop. We hung out with a rooster and lots of birds while we ate. It was entertaining.

Selection of sandwiches and desserts are right on point. Kid friendly menu at the perfect price point that won't break the bank while allowing the adults to enjoy the amazing creation of sandwiches available. I would highly recommend this stop for locals and visitors alike. Go hit them up!

Good and filling sandwiches! These are freshly made and full of flavor. Large enough to share with someone.

We sat on the patio but they call the main dining room however it is outside. The host and the servers were very nice on both days helping us choose our dishes and beverages. The first night were shared the shrimp and unui (sp?) patties. They were tasty and slightly sweet but over-charred and the sauce served with them did not complement them very well. It needed a fresher sauce or something with a little kick The first night I Had the chicken Which is actually a tiny little bird I should've known from the name. - pouisson. It was well cooked, but there was very little meat on all of the bones. And also needed a sauce of some kind. The one baby bok choy was a nice addition. Two of the group had the fish and chips it was made with swordfish that night and was very tasty. However, the chips were slightly limp and not hot. No one wanted to return them, but they really were not very good. One of the other entrées was the veggie bowl with seared Aji tuna and it had quinoa at the bottom with lots of roasted beets and other vegetables. It was a very good dish. The second time I ordered the grilled seafood bowl because that night they were offering Oppa as the grilled fish on the kebabs/skewers that were served on top of the bowl the seafood was cooked, absolutely perfectly, and it had pickled cucumbers, pickled red onions, slightly cooked carrots, and then regular cucumbers on top of lightly dressed soba noodles. It was a very tasty and hearty bowl. We also ordered a kale, beet and blue cheese salad for the table, but what came out was their strange version of Caesar salad, which has chickpeas on it which of course we did not want. It took them quite a while to bring the kale and beet salad to the table, however when they did, it was quite tasty a combination I would not have thought of on my own The first night we ordered the passionfruit cheesecake which had a strange chocolate crust that was too thick and a very light topping of passionfruit. It was fine, but we would not order it again. The whole restaurant is a nice change from all of the really overpriced offerings in the area. The food is fresh and tasty and the service is professional and fun at the same time.

We ordered takeout and while waiting for our food, we browsed the grocery aisles and then checked out the surrounding shops. I really enjoyed the Ahi poke bowl. There was this tasty kimchi cucumber on the side with sweet o ions and avocado. The fish was fresh. G got the quinoa and vegetable bowl, topped with roasted chicken. It was a delicious salad with beets, macadamia nuts, kale, and more- and the chicken was nice and moist.

We sat on the patio by the pool and luckily the umbrella was large enough to block the sun! The food all tasted great. The crab dip with 6 or 8 pieces of toasted focaccia was high quality with real crab not surimi. We ordered the flatbread with chicken instead of pork and it was also very good with a nice crispy crust and moist chicken chunks. The wedge salad was a large piece with crisp bacon, candied pecans, grape tomato halves and a tasty dressing. It only needed some red onion to make it perfect. The calamari were crispy but the portion size was too small and the pieces of calamari were too small so the ratio of crust to fish was too high.

We were told that the pupi portions were large and could easily be shared. This was true and we split the calamari and my husband found it to be too salty. We both had the fresh catch. He had ahi tuna and I had mancha which I was told was like halibut. It was thinner than halibut and reminded me of mahi-mahi. It was suggested to have it pan seared to make sure it was not overcooked. Well, it was a bit fry from being overcooked. I had a double portion of green vegetables which turned out to be 4 pieces of asparagus. My husband's ahi was served a bit more than seared and rare. His sides were 2 pieces of asparagus and a piece of carrot. In essence we each had a small piece of fish and a small portion of vegetables. This was a mediocre meal in a beautiful setting. They need to step up their game.

While in Hawaii, we also saw the episode of Anthony Bourdain visiting, which made us even more excited. I had the classic Polish dog topped with spicy sauce, the mango relish (a.k.a. the Kauai special), and Aunty Lilikoi's mustard. My husband had a similar combination but opted for pineapple relish and no mustard. We couldn't resist getting a third dog to share, simply adorned with spicy sauce and plain ketchup. The line outside can be a little long, but it moves quickly. Inside, the staff is incredibly friendly, making the wait worth it. Don't miss out on their lemonade--it's delicious, and you can choose half-sweet since it's freshly made. I wish we had time to visit them twice, but next time I'm in Kauai, I'll definitely be back. I kind of regret not buying a shirt because I'm sure I'll return!

I will give it credit for the bread that had some char on the inside which added to the flavor of the polish dog, but the polish dog itself seemed to be equivalent to Costco's polish dog. The sauces I will say were unique and tasted pretty good but I it needed more. The sauce was only at the bottom and at the very top. It left the middle hot dog and bun with much to be desired. I personally wouldnt come back, but it was worth it to experience and taste it once. Oh and the lemonade was solid with 50% sugar. It was a nice refresher after going hiking.
