This review is half for this location and half for corporate, which isn't doing their job. I walked in wanting an apple fritter, and found that they had apple filled donuts labeled as apple fritters. The manager said she knew they weren't fritters, but they have been doing this for 20 yrs. Time to change. This is not how other Shipleys sell fritters. SHIPLEYS REPLIED TO THIS REVIEW ASKING THAT I CONTACT THEM VIA THE INFO PROVIDED. THAT WAS DONE AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN ADDRESS THE ISSUE, NOT AT ALL. THEY SIMPLY SENT OUT A FORM LETTER. Contact them via their form that they posted below and they send you coupons for FREE donuts. That's not what I asked for. All I wanted is for them to answer why this location is not consistent with other Shipley franchises and to CEASE selling apple filled donuts and mislabeling them as apple fritters. I always loved this location but today I got an Apple Fritter and it's super small and as hard as a rock. I would highly suggest the Corporate office stop responding with their canned "sorry to hear about your experience" and actually fix the issues. Tried the other location it wasn't great. Decided to try this location again was disappointing. I went at 6:30 A.M ordered two glazed donuts and donut holes. Neither were warm and the donuts were cold. Like that had been stored. The sausage and cheese kolache were small and tasted not fresh as well. Sad cause I love their donuts in the past but it's not giving at these locations. You would think at that time they would at least be warm. read more

I can remember when Shipley's used to be the premier donut shop. Now it's mediocre at best. Taste like the "kolaches" AND donuts are mass produced days ago and shipped in. Add in the young girls talking about clubbing & shots/shooters and I left there thinking, WTF, why did I stop here for subpar breakfast? The quality of this place isn't always consistent, but typically tastes pretty good if you go early in the mornings around when they open! last few times I went, my order was still warm. Me and my roommates always enjoy getting donuts and kolaches from here for breakfast, and we will continue to do so! read more

Promised a coworker breakfast this morning so covered my bases with four sausage and cheese kolaches, one chocolate glaze and a Boston cream. Under nine bucks! I love Dixie Cream's kolaches but there is also something about biting into one here, jalapeños or no, and finding all that hot gooey cheese. This place has helped me survive some very tough mornings with this kind of food therapy, I confess. If you are unfamiliar with the pudding-filled donut knockoff of a Boston creme pie, I just feel sad. Sure, it's your sugar ration for the day and maybe then some, but every once in a while I just need one. And we're here for treats anyways, not kale. I've only been to a Shipley's this one time, but the donut I had was the worst donut I have ever eaten. The flavor was very 'meh', but WORSE is the fact that the donut left the inside of my mouth coated in lard or shortening...some type of fat. And I just had cinnamon sugar donuts--so nothing frosted. That appalling mouth feel was some aspect of the dough recipe, or maybe some error with this particular batch of dough. It was disgusting, truly. I ordered two donuts and I took a few bites of one. I tried to figure out what was going on, then just threw all of it away. I almost never throw away food; I literally eat stuff that might not be the safest just to avoid throwing away food. So for me to throw out more than one donut...when I had been CRAVING donuts...says a lot. My spouse ordered two other completely different donuts that same trip and also did not finish them. The donuts are pretty for sure; but if you actually want to enjoy EATING the donuts as much as you enjoyed looking at them, then go across the street to the bakery department at H.E.B., instead lol. read more

Best place to go through the drive thru for a dozen donuts for the office or just a quick yummy breakfast. It's not meant to be a sit down place so I'm not judging the indoor decor. They could have a better drink selection. But their sausage and cheese kolaches are always warm and delicious, especially the dough. Yum! My go-to donut shop in town. They have a plentiful selection of all sorts of donuts, and don't forget to grab a bag of donut holes. They're always fresh, having them baked over night, every night. The Asian man who owns the place always likes to feed my Pomeranian a donut hole lol. We like them for sure! I love Shipley. I grew up on them. We stop at this location regularly. The staff rarely smiles or seems happy to see you. The donuts are good - they're sugar and dough, it's hard to mess up that part. Lately this place has become a homeless hangout, inside and out. The staff doesn't discourage this either. Folks come in from off the street and just sit around in the store. Then when you leave they hit you up for money. read more

Fresh pastries and great atmosphere. Has seating to hangout and eat your donuts while enjoying your coffee at a leisurely pace. They even have a counter with stools. Try the buttermilk donut. They have a very busy drive-through that seems to move pretty quickly. My major criticism: they have a $2 Credit Card minimum. The drive through people are incredibly courteous & sweet. The kolaches are huge & BEYOND delicious. I also ordered the blueberry glazed cake donut and let me just tell you, FABULOUS. I've been thinking about doughnuts for quite some time. I didn't want to go the Gourghdough's route because based on reviews it seemed as though it's pretty inflated hype. But I don't like Krispy Kreme. It's gross... too sugary. Very little bread factor. So, I went to the not so hip, but always trusty, Shipley's. No "fanc" factor. There's not even a menu to order from in the drive through. So I got to the window and told the dude I wanted a cake doughnut. He then offered up some info about a blueberry cake doughnut...I'm into that. I'm totally into that. 2 doughnuts = $1.48. He brought me my bag of goodies and sheepishly admitted he threw in a glazed blueberry cake doughnut for not extra charge because he thought I'd like it. Oh. My. God. Yes. After peeling out with my three doughnuts, I guzzled the original cake and blueberry cake. Good...good, not great. They weren't without their charm....but more charm could have been had. Very fast service and pretty cheap breakfast! Great for when you are in a rush to class! Good location right by the square! It's on the way to school for me so it's a routine stop for me! I want to begin this review by stating that I absolutely adore Shipley's Donuts & Kolaches - by far my favorite shop. Unfortunately, I have had several encounters with extremely rude and disrespectful employees. I have been treating myself to fresh donuts at opening this week due to finals. The first few encounters with employees were rough, but my most recent trip was AWFUL. Listen up! This employee messed up my order THREE TIMES and each time, she tried to correct me and told me I was wrong!? She didn't give me my drink, didn't give me an order of donut holes, & gave me the wrong kolache! Not only did she not apologize for any of the mistakes, SHE SLAMMED THE WINDOW IN MY FACE! When I told her I ordered a water & didn't receive it, she looked at me and said I didn't order a water, so I said "yes, I did" and she said "no, you didn't!" and then got me a cup. I have never EVER dealt with a more disrespectful employee; she was incredibly rude and disrespectful for no reason. I hate to give such a poor rating to Shipley's, but I cannot believe the amount of disrespectful employees. If you can't handle an early morning job, don't work at Shipley's! Customers don't deserve to be treated badly because the employees are too tired to do their job! read more

There are two Shipleys close to campus now. This is the bad one. A very poor selection and the donuts were stale. I think they have the "Hold till its sold" policy. I threw out the donuts; if it is unhealthy; at least it should taste good. I went to the Shipleys on Aquarena Springs - soooo much better. read more
