This Shirley's is awful! Idk why they can't all be the same and stick to universal recipes and procedures. Had the wife grab me a couple Apple Fritters here this morning. Straight trash. 1/2 the size of a regular Shipleys A.F. No apple or flavor. Instead of being poured like a funnel cake in squirts the dough was tossed in in one big chunk. Do you know about the kolaches in West TX (Czech Stop) on highway 35 between Austin and Dallas? We dream of them. We have been known to drive to West for a day trip to have our "fix" and bring back boxes and boxes of them fresh and frozen. I moved to Austin from Chicago over 30 years ago. I started a business in Austin and learned that Shipley's was one of the best donut places in Texas. I have been eating them every time I find them in central/south Texas. Well....they just started opening stores by me now. Yay!!! The donuts are great but for those that love ham/cheese w jalapeño pillows of warm goodness.....this is as close as u can get here in NTX. The big Earl sausage w jalapeño is right up there as one of the best 3 bites a man can devour. The buttery thin blanket wrapped around juicy sauce floating in a cheese and jalapeño goo. Oh man. Thanks Shipley's for coming north to Grapevine. Thank you for a little bit of Czech heaven here locally we can drive through. Super disappointed in the quality of their food. I went in this morning and ordered big earls and plain sausage pigs. I asked how they were later and everyone told me they were hard and the sausage even tasted burnt. I posted a raving review 8 months ago but I guess you got new management. I love cream filled donuts. My roommate brought home some from Shipley's. I bit into one expecting it to be filled with warm vanilla custard. What I got was a mouthful of shortening and sugar, the disgusting, nauseatingly sweet, filling in the middle of a Twinkie. YUCK! I couldn't say if the pastry was good because that nasty filling overpowered it. If you think vanilla custard when considering a cream filled donut, then Shipley's isn't your place. Walked in around 10am and couldn't believe what I saw....FULL RACKS! Of donuts. I cant tell you how many times I have walked into donut shops after 9am and they are completely picked through. I grabbed a Boston Cream and a Big Earl (jal and cheese kola). All super fresh and delicious. The Boston Cream was filled to the brim and the Kola hit the spot.
