    Sausage, Cheese and Jalapeño Kolache
    Anthony B.

Located on the Northeast corner of Florida Blvd and Wooddale Blvd, I visited this Shipley's on Wednesday 11/1/23 at 6:40 AM. This was my first-time trying Shipley Do-Nuts and I was looking forward to trying the donuts and the Kolaches that so many people are talking about. The restaurant was very clean inside and out. The Service I waited at the front to place my order for about 8 minutes even though I was the only one in the lobby at the time. There were two employees that I could see (one working the drive thru and another employee doing prep (who also serves as the front counter person). As I stood there patiently, I was never acknowledged by the employee in the font. The drive thru employee finally acknowledged my presence and said, "we'll be right with you". Finally, when the front-end employee approached me to take my order, there was no good morning, no sorry for the wait, no smile, nothing, just a cold may I help you. She seemed like she didn't want to be at work, or she really don't like her job. I know it was early in the morning, but please acknowledge your customers as soon as they walk through the door and make them feel welcome and valued. The Food: I only ordered 1-Glazed Donut ($1.23) and 1-Sausage, Cheese and Jalapeno Kolache ($3.46) because this was my first visit and I wanted to try the food before going all out. The Glazed Donut was very small compared to the donuts from other local donut shops, but it was warm, well glazed, and it tasted very good. I would order donuts from this restaurant again. The Sausage, Cheese and Jalapeno Kolache was awful. According to the website, it's a "pillow soft dough baked full of cheese, sausage, and jalapeno". It was cold and it's too much bread (flavorless) and it's not stuffed with sausage, but with what seems to be a cheap tasting hot dog wiener. It did not have any or so little cheese that I could not taste or see the cheese and very little jalapenos for the size of this Kolache. I know it was early in the morning, but please acknowledge your customers as soon as they walk through the door and make them feel welcome and valued. Great customer service although it usually doesn't make up for the poor food quality, but it does leave the door open for an opportunity for a revisit to try something different on the menu. Poor customer service closed that door and makes a paying customer like me not wanting to patronize this location again. Shipley Do-Nuts 8121 Florida Blvd Baton Rouge, LA

I have been wanting to try Shipleys but I haven't been in the area until today. The lady who serviced me in the drive thru was so nice and patient with all of my questions! This place reminds me of the donuts Dunkin had when it occupied this location. Except compared to Dunkin, I can come here at 1-2pm and they still have donuts left, so there's no need to rush in an attempt to get your favorite. Anytime I want something not too sweet and filling with great service, I'll definitely come to Shipleys

Best kolachke in Louisiana. The bread is better, the cheese is better. They actually make something spicy when they say it's spicy.

Hours aren't accurate, they close early/unexpectedly. Half the times I've visited they've been closed despite posted hours claiming open.

It means so much to have found my new go-to coffee spot when I'm back in BR. The space itself is perfectly warm, clean, and welcoming. Everything is curated to make you feel like you belong. The coffee, tea, and food choices are perfect. I grabbed an espresso shot and cinnamon roll to stay and an iced matcha latte to go. The espresso was nicely dialed in, the notes were present and the barista served it wonderfully. The cinnamon roll was warmed up and freshly iced before being served. The matcha was so good, and a great choice to takeaway as a treat. The staff here really goes beyond to provide excellent service. This is my new go-to coffee spot in Baton Rouge. Thanks Coffee Joy!

Every table has outlets for devices, the space is open and well laid out with a mix of tables and comfortable couches that invite you to stay. The lighting is soft and warm, and gentle French music in the background creates a charming atmosphere. It's so comfortable it genuinely feels like a home away from home. The menu is thoughtfully curated, featuring seasonal items, genuinely fresh pastries, and excellent savory options. The equipment used to prepare both coffee and tea is top-of-the-line, and the quality shows in every cup. The olives pogača (pronounced pasha in Turkish), topped with sea salt, is truly unique--fluffy, rich, and deeply satisfying. The baklava is served warm and is remarkably soft and easy to enjoy, unlike the usually firm, layered texture you expect. There's also an impressive tea selection with real flavor, loose-leaf options, and specialty coffees, including French press with a choice of beans. Honestly, this place feels like a luxury for this town.

Based on the reviews and seeing that this place roasted their own coffee I was very excited to try it but it left much to be desired. Walked in to a very lively coffee shop, lots of students and they had a very nice sized space. Service was bleh, not very friendly just kind of like "what do you want attitude". Not sure if the college students employed are a little stressed out but you are in the service industry, give people a good experience! Ordered a pour over and an oatmeal cream pie. The pour over was good! Whoever is roasting did a great job highlighting the origin flavors of that coffee and it was brewed well thanks to the automated brewing system they had. The oatmeal cream pie was nothing special. A little hard and couldn't tell if it was old or just a recipe used that made it dense. The worst part for me was at the area you pick up drinks, it was messy and because of that mess there were a lot of little fruit fly looking things flying around. Not the best look for an establishment serving food and coffee. I really wanted to like this place. My coffee was great but a coffee shop is more than the cup. It's the whole experience and unfortunately, it was lacking. If I'm ever back in the area I'd give it a second try to see if it was a one off or not.
