Perhaps it's operator ignorance, but sometimes I don't think I reviewed an establishment and then find out I did. In this instance, I thought I had submitted a review but don't see it, so here's one. After Labor Day, 2023, for a period of 6-8 weeks this location was added to a regular rotation of breakfast spots for me. I do not think location has a drive-through but that is not significant to me (may be to you) as I prefer to walk in-----what I look for is quick and consistent in and out orders which make me happy. My expectations were met as the cashier and counter people were courteous and efficient with the customers and rpaidly filled orders---whether it was for a few dozen doughnuts or 2-3. In my case, I usually order 2-3 per visits---1 glazed, 1 filled, and a 3rd of my choosing. The glazed were always fresh. The filled usually met the mark although sometimes I thought there should be more ffilling. The filling selected was usually different each time and there have the usual creme, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, chocolate, sparkles, etc.. I also ordered a drink, whether it was coffee, hot chocolate, or a small carton of milk-----everything was there and ready. And this went on for each of my visits---quick and consinstent in and our orders which make me happy so this place gets 5 stars from me. Mary Lee is a good way to start my day. read more

You get what you pay for service wise & taste wise. A little disappointed because the lady didn't feel welcoming. It was 5am so maybe she's grouchy. "Donuts, donuts, donuts!" This is a very busy donut store at the end of a strip mall. Just when I think donuts are losing their flair, I walk into this place and about 5 people end up lining up right behind me and it was almost 11am. People still love their donut stores. The donuts here tasted fresh and were pretty yummy. As for the customer service, I was pleasantly surprised with it. The woman behind the counter was kind and actually happy to be helping me. I have not always had the best luck with customer service at donut places. Most of the time, I always ended up with someone grumpy and disinterested in taking my order. There are a dozen and half of these in and around Baton Rouge, and after having been to several of the others (Florida, O'neal, etc) I think this is the best one. My son and I go here almost every weekend (Sat and Sun). The two ladies who work the counter here know us as they do dozens (if not hundreds) of other faces that come through their door. The donuts here are amazing and they know exactly which donuts to make for which type of crowd comes in at different times of the week. For the little ones the chocolate sprinkle doughnut is the go to for anyone under 12, they have as many or more of these than the glazed donuts ready to go, they even have doughnut hole versions with sprinkles, that's so awesome. The Apple Fritter is amazing, enough for two people, you have to get it! They also have a king cake doughnut, pigs in blankets and the standard offering of Community Coffee, milk, OJ and soda. It's the service and smile I go in for. Even when D Donuts opened up down the road, we ditched them and came back for the quality of the doughnut, and the people. I've written reviews for other doughnut places and as awesome as they are, this one is the closest to where I live. The only thing I have to say that I really don't like are the very inconsiderate folks who park in the red zone right outside the door. It's painfully obvious that parking is a whole 20 feet away. If it was the streets of Los Angeles, I would understand but here, it's completely pathetic. read more

Husband and I came in at 11:15, they close at 12. We even called before to make sure they still had donuts. Donuts were fine but the employees were SO rude. I even apologized for coming in last minute and the lady rolled her eyes at me and the other just said "it's fine". As we get to our car we see them all leave, I guess they wanted to close early today. The donuts were good as always, but I opened my chocolate milk and it was soured. I looked at the expiration date and it was literally almost a month expired, I'm glad I only took a sip and spit it out because I'm pregnant and it could've really made me sick. I LOVE the apple fritters at this Mary Lee's location. I've tried them from the Coursey location, but they are not as good. If you've never had one, please do yourself a favor. Wonderfully crispy/crunchy/sugary on the outside, fluffy sweet and bready on the inside, and generously supplied with juicy nuggets of sweet apple. Best paired with chocolate milk from their cooler. They are about the size of an adult snapping turtle, but bumpy, kind of like monkey bread. Lends itself nicely to plucking bite-sized pieces. When you see these hefty delicacies in the glass case, you may be tempted to buy only one and share it. Big mistake. HUGE. One fritter per person. Be prepared for the emotional and physical effects to follow. First, even though it's a full breakfast in anybody's book, you'll be sad when it's gone. But this sadness is surpassed by a window of euphoria. Utilize this hour to pull weeds, unload a truckload of roofing shingles, push a concrete truck out of the mud, or pry open a bear trap with two pinky fingers. We went at about ten and couldn't believe what a small selection they had. In addition, everything they had out looked like it had been out for quite some time. Okay to be fair it was around ten. So I can't hate on them too much. However, the variety was definitely lacking. My girlfriend always told me how great the donuts were from there, but they didn't look too impressive. I went hoping to get a kolache or something with meat in it, and when I realized they didn't have anything for me I decided I would pass. I went next door to Subway for breakfast. I'll definitely give them another shot. Probably earlier in the morning next time. We live right across the street. So we really don't have much of an option. read more

I have been a customer of this Mary Lee's since moving to BR a year and half ago. This morning my wife goes out for my daughter's birthday and places a relatively simple order - 8 glaze and 4 chocolate. The order was reversed. We didn't realize that until she got home. I called the store and the employee that answered said to bring the order back and they would correct it. After the kids were served, the only doughnuts that were left were the 4 chocolate doughnuts. I brought the box back with the 4 chocolate covered doughnuts. The employee took the box and bagged up the missing glaze and said "sorry about that." I called the store on the way home because I felt like someone in management she hear about the situation. The owner explained that it's their policy to take back the wrong doughnuts. So I drove all the way back to MLD for 4 glaze doughnuts and was offered nothing but an I'm sorry. I'm a small business owner also and to not offer something extra because of their mistake is crazy. As an owner you offer to give the chocolate doughnuts back for the extra effort. A really good owner would have paid for the mistake that she admitted that she made. The expectation to go above and beyond on an incorrect order is what really is disappointing. When you charge eight dollars for a dozen doughnuts you should really appreciate the customers that come through your doors. You lost a customer over 4 doughnuts. That's sad! read more
