Don't let looks deceive you. Judging by the exterior, you'd think this place would be awful. You'd be wrong. When I saw we would be driving through Baton Rouge, I immediately made a detour to find a Mary Lee. I wanted to relive a childhood favorite. This location fulfilled that desire. The donuts were as good as I remembered. We also got kolaches and they were much better than the ones we've had in Texas or Mississippi. The dough is different and the sausages are different. However, we all agreed that this made them better. read more

Mary Lee Donuts - Mardi Gras donut - Donuts Near Me - Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Donuts are cold. Website says credit cards but they only would take cash. Unwelcoming, unaccommodating staff/owners.

This is the standard for donuts. Not Baton Rouge, not Louisiana, everywhere. This isn't a flashy instagram pretty donut or shop. It's a fluffy light donut with a glaze that you'll remember forever. They focus on donuts not the other BS that's why they are good! I take this for granted because I live here but everywhere I go I catch myself saying this isn't Mary lees. read more

Favorite donut spot! Light and fluffy. Friendly staff. Get there early on the weekends!

Very rude. When I asked for a chocolate bar she rolled her eyes at me when I told her I didn't want the cream she filled it with after swishing the whole thing. Then argued with me about how I ordered it. If I didn't care about money, I would've left it on the floor. read more

*HUGE!!!* apple fritter. Seven inch diameter (I measured!) monstrosity of wonderously fried, sugar glazed, calorie packed doughy goodness your cardiologist would have his/her own heart attack over if they knew you were adding this beast to your beltline. So keep him or her off the memo to get on down to Mary Lee Donuts to find this kind of way good tasting, slightly chewy, solidly crunchy, plate filling fried Nirvana of the great American South. One demerit for not having a customer bathroom to clean the aftermath of the fried sugarfication off your hands. Premises were clean & the hustlin' staff were as friendly as the combat conditions allowed, which was putting a premium on efficiency over effusiveness. read more

Today, this was literally a lifesaver. This was the only restaurant with coffee for miles open after the hurricane. They were letting us in, one group or person at a time, but they had doughnuts, kolaches, fritters, Starbucks cold drinks, milk, AND COFFEE! I had been looking for quite some time and had no luck until I was driving past and saw the line around the building. I stopped and was thrilled. Everything was good, but my coffee addiction was especially sated. The chocolate donut and apple fritter also hit the spot read more

I am not having a good experience with any Mary Lee's. I ordered kolache which tasted like card board the. My donut holes were stale tasting like made yesterday .. last Mary Lee I go to read more

Oh my goodness y'all - not only is this place a mile from my home, but also SUCH a guilty pleasure! Their donuts are nothing super fancy, but consistently scrumptious! Let's just say...some mornings I wake up craving their donuts, and I have to treat myself! Their prices are very reasonable which is another plus! My only gripe is the fact that they close at noon (understandable because they open at the crack of dawn!) and their coffee is mehhhh (sorry not a fan of the dirty tasting community coffee). If you love donuts, this place will be your new regular...trust! P.S. don't forget to try their koloches if you're in the mood for something more savory read more

We are from out of town, visiting grandchildren. Said we would bring donuts. We're told only go to Mary Lee's. The grandchildren will not eat anything but Mary Lee's. In addition to donuts, I ordered an Apple fritter, they made sure to get me a hot one-delicious! read more

As I have said in previous reviews about donut places, these are absolutely necessary in every neighborhood. I am bummed that it has taken me this long to visit this location (Perkins close to College). I walked in and was warmly welcomed by a family that runs this location. They were so nice that I wanted to stay all morning and chat with them (while eating donuts of course). Sadly, donut shop visits must end, but I walked out the door with an Oreo cookie donut and 1/2 dozen of choco-holes (chocolate donut holes). Yes, I almost ate 'em all. They open early and close early, so get your donuts, while they are up and runnin'. Feel kickin' it up with some coffee? They have that freshly brewed, too and you'll be on your way. Donuts and coffee: a delectable pair that are just always to good to pass up. Heading to work or a meeting? Brighten it up with a box (or two) of donuts for the group. I'll definitely be back here, just because I adored the owners so much and love their donuts. read more

We came in right before closing after grabbing a poke bowl across the parking lot. We were greeted by a kind man and he told us we had to try the fresh glazed doughnuts and they were amazing !! All the doughnuts we tried were delicious. I can't wait to come back. read more

Greasy tasteless cake donuts along with the TOUGHEST and CHEWIEST apple fritter I have ever had in my life. Rock hard in spots and chewy as leather in the rest of the product. No apple either. It was like it had been microwaved repeatedly before they sold it. Never have I had a worse fritter. Hub's chocolate yeast bow tie was properly done but didn't have a lot of chocolate flavor in the icing. The LSU donut was cute and acceptably done but all in all these were not good products. BR could use some donut help in a big way. Not an EPIC fail but certainly not a rip snorting success by any stretch. read more

Tasty donuts! My dozen donuts were fresh, like they were still warm when put in the box. Reasonable price.

Nice tasting donuts, they have a lot of staff. More staff than I have ever seen in a donut place. I like the unicorn looking donuts, my children will be happy to get em when they get home read more

I have been going to Mary Lee donuts since I was a little girl. My dad used to take me to get donuts some mornings before school started so this donut shop really holds a special place in my heart and stomach! And truly, there is nothing more comforting and heavenly than a hot glazed donut!! Especially a Mary Lee donut!! I swear, they actually melt in your mouth!! And the smell when you walk in is sooo amazing! Ok well, I've talked myself into it! I guess I know where I'm going in the morning! read more

First the Donuts are Really good but I'm rating it 3 stars cause there's no sign limiting the amount of people inside during covid and the employees did not say anything when 4 other people came in a bit after I was in there trying to order. It's small inside this Mary Lee's and there was a person a foot away from me cause there was not anywhere else to go. Anyway, I'd probably be back again but next time I'll see if I can order ahead or something so I won't be stuffed inside their tiny business with a bunch of other people. read more

If you want a hot fresh melt in your mouth doughnut this is the place for you. Once you walk in you are instantly hit with a smell of fresh baked doughnuts and a very nice family asking for your order. I always get two glazed doughnuts because I know one will not be enough. These doughnuts are big and fluffy and the icing/glaze has just the right amount of crunch. They have a good amount of other flavors and special doughnuts like twists and fritters which are also delicious. One of the things that I love about Mary Lee is that they also are very affordable so you can pick up a dozen to bring to a group/ meeting without hurting your wallet. They are only open till 1pm though so make to get your doughnut fix before then. Highly recommend this place. read more

This is the best donut shop in town! The hot glaze donut are addictive. The chocolate donuts are delicious and so are the Long John's are wonderful too! read more

Now I have written reviews of donut shops before. I love them all, and donuts love me, unfortunately I have to go on a diet every few months to undo the mass indulgences I have consumed here and elsewhere. I am a foodie, and now that we have a son who is old enough to know between right and wrong we can teach him the differences between the different foods we eat and try. I like introducing him to new things and go back to enjoy the things we and he likes the most. No better taste test than donuts, right? The hard part is convincing him to try new donuts, but now he likes seeking out new ones and we always compare it to the donuts made here. There are a bunch of this locally owned and operated donut shop in and around Baton Rouge, and after having been to several of the others (Florida, O'neal, etc) I think this is the best one. My son and I go here almost every weekend (Sat and Sun). The two ladies who work the counter here know us as they do dozens (if not hundreds) of other faces that come through their door. It was one them whose father trained all the others how to make the Mary Lee Donuts. That said, I would consider this the OG of Mary Lee's of all of them. if you gotta have it, I mean a darn good original Mary Lee recipe donut, go to the ones that trained the rest. The donuts here are amazing and they know exactly which donuts to make for which type of crowd comes in at different times of the week. For the little ones the chocolate sprinkle doughnut is the go to for anyone under 12, they have as many or more of these than the glazed donuts ready to go, they even have doughnut hole versions with sprinkles, that's so awesome. On the weekends they have an extra supply of these as thwy know what their audience wants. The Apple Fritter is HUGE! I highly recommend it, it's worth running around the block dueing the week a few times to make up for it. They also have a king cake donut, pigs in blankets and the standard offering of Community Coffee, milk, oj and soda. It's the service and smile I go in for. Even when a national chain reappeared in BR after a long hiatus opened up down the road, we ditched them and came back for the quality of the donut, and the people are so nice. read more

I'm from Buffalo, NY originally and as a birthright and close proximity to Canada I actually have glaze running through my veins so I'm a tough critic when it comes to this hole-iest of snacks. Mary Lee has not let me down. There is always a line out the door for this place and their fresh and usually still warm doughnuts are the reason. I'll take the homespun version of a warm glaze over DD or KK anyday. Consider this Buffalonian officially impressed. read more

The best donuts by far, not just by this chain but better than any other bakery in the south! The folks working here are charming, efficient and professional! No wonder they have a line out of the building most any day you go. You may have to fight a crown but it is worth the line once you taster their delicious, mouth watering, sweet treats! You won't regret stopping here! read more

I like their donuts, I hate going in here. Being from the home of Dunkin Donuts I am quite particular about my donuts on the occasion that I decide to have one or a dozen. Mary Lee is comparable to a Tim Horton's or a Dunks in terms of the quality of their donuts, both places are of course not available in the south, so Mary Lee makes a more than acceptable substitution. The way this place falls flat in their coffee selection, they basically have one type of coffee and sell it in 12oz cups, that's it hopefully you don't like to drink huge cups of coffee like I do. This place could be making so much more money serving different sizes and varieties coffee and other coffee drinks, but seems to exclusively focus on donuts. Every time I want donuts I debate going into Mary Lee because it is either overly crowded with a huge slow moving line or completely empty and sold out of every type of donut except glazed. If you decide to go Saturday morning, it will take forever to get donuts. If you decide to go early in the afternoon after nursing a hangover you better like glazed donuts as this is usually all they have left. All in all this place is great for your donut fix, but I don't go here as often as I would if they had better coffee. Sometimes I don't feel like stopping twice, once for my coffee and once for my donuts. read more

A line out the door (and to the street) at 7:30am on a cold gameday, must be good right? Sure is. Regular and chocolate glazed were coming out fresh and delicious. Apple fritter is solid, but light on the apple chunks. Seems like a popular to go place, but as I was looking to kill some time I grabbed a seat and people watched. Apparently if you want chocolate holes get here early, everyone ordered them just to be told they were already out. Regular glazed were a staple, and as I said rightly so. Definitely a great early morning breakfast spot to cure what ails you. read more

Mary Lee on Perkins is the donut queen of Baton Rouge. The donuts are so crisp and filling. There is always a fresh hot batch of glazed rolling out. A hot apple fritter is my favorite, just the right amount of cinnamon and sugary glaze yum! read more

Great neighborhood donut store! The donuts are sooooo good. I used to be a hot now Krispy Kreme lover. But, the cinnamon rolls and apple fritters are to die for. I love it when I catch them right when they are pulling them out of the fryer (or however they cook donuts). They also have pig in a blankets. The employees don't speak the best English but they are sweet. I just wish the inside was a tad bit nicer. read more

I love that this place is literally less than a minute's drive from my house! Or maybe I hate that fact, because these donuts are like crack... addicting! I stopped by for a donut on the way into work yesterday around 7:30am. Already people were lined up inside, but the line moved fast. I can see why it's so popular at that time. The donuts are all super fresh and most are still warm at that time! I tried a glazed donut with chocolate frosting. It was slightly warm and melted in my mouth. I'm drooling just thinking about these little bites of heaven. Just go already! read more

This place was about average for me. Nothing really set it apart from any other donut place I have ever been too. Donuts are kind of hard to screw-up. It is a little awkward and cramped in there, however I found the service to be excellent and quick even in the wee-hours of the morning. I don't really see how anyone would prefer dining in (rather than to-go) at Mary Lee's. Definitely not a place to go for the atmosphere. The Donuts were good, but I wouldn't call them very special or unique. Regardless, they were good donuts. I can really best compare it to Shipley's, which is what I'm used to in Texas. Both are good, but how different can one donut place really be from another? Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 read more

The glazed donuts were just heavenly. Best donut I think I've ever had. Wow those were good!

The donuts are really delicious and really fresh. The glazed creme filled is absolutely to die for!

Best donuts in Baton Rouge, nuff' said. AMAZING eclairs and filled donuts.

Good donuts and coffee. Fast service, even with a line out the door. Great after a game day. Will come back again. Had the raspberry filled donut. Wife had bearclaw. read more

First off, my family and I got food poisoning from their pigs in blankets. For the donuts, the selection was disappointing to say the least & they were dry, tasteless & gross. The woman at the counter kept trying to make us take the leftovers that no one else wanted & she was really pushy about it. She was sooooo obnoxious & it was extremely annoying to have to keep saying "no I don't want those kind". Not that she cared what I said, because I found out when I got home that she had put 2 or 3 in the box anyway when I wasn't looking. Frustrating doesn't even begin to describe it. We originally went in to try the hot donuts & when we asked her about them, she just laughed uncontrollably...what does that even mean?! This place is disgusting, that was the first and last time we ever went there!!! Im getting nauseous just thinking about this place bc I got so sick. read more

Go here for there apple fritters. They are the best I have had in town. Next time I'll try the eclair.

Best donuts in Baton Rouge. One of these donuts weighs as much as two Krispy Kremes. Not for someone on a diet, but so good!
