I did not expect to receive outreach some months later, so the only way they even could have known anything was going on was by actively going over their yelp reviews. Trish reached out via email, discussed my issues, offered compensation for any damages, and ultimately, when I requested a discount on a future move (because I found they actually did a great job packing my stuff) offered fair compensation for the negative experience I already had, because my future move is too short of distance to discount. As part of my attempt to move a small number of items from one coast to the other, there was some confusion at the loading site regarding the contents of my contract. It resulted in far more items being moved then I had desired. In retrospect, I strongly recommend that individuals be present at the loading site when possible. It will help alleviate confusion and clarify any questions. That said, Ship Smart was able to reimburse me for the amount that was in question. If I could use less stars, that would be great. At week 3, I called to ask where my things were. They were still at their city of origin and hadn't even been logged in the warehouse. Also, it would be another 2 weeks before my belongings arrived. After 4 phone calls, I was told that I would be made more of a priority and my belongings should arrive within 3-5 business days. I also was told that I simply didn't understand how their business worked and that they didnt understand why I was upset. Week 4 starts tomorrow. I had some furniture that was of extremely important family value, and their organization was extremely professional in picking up and carefully packing the furniture back on the East Coast and shipping it here to Southern California. Whenever I had changes are questions, they always pick up the phone and were always very kind and patient and thoughtful, and the ultimate result is that the beautiful furniture of extreme importance in my family is now sitting proudly in my home thanks to their professionalism. Of course they make an estimate, and the estimate changes based on the actual weight and packing materials, but that's sort of part for the course, and their over all cost is much less than if one were to use 1 of those pod companies. I would love to give less than 1 star. This company is horrible. I needed to have my grandmother's furniture moved from Florida to NC so I went online and requested an estimate. First, the estimate never arrived (it was supposed to arrive via email within 48 hours) and I had to call them after 3 days to get the estimate sent over. After finally receiving the estimate, I decided to go with ShipSmart (they were the cheapest, and now I know why). They took my credit card info but I never received notification or tracking info (again supposed to arrive via email within 48 hours). I had to call AGAIN to receive said information. They picked up the furniture in Florida (according to my grandmother, the Florida employees were excellent). However, when it came time to deliver the furniture, they returned to their horrible ways. Only after taking my money and after picking up the furniture, they alert me that they ONLY deliver during regular business hours (so no weekends and not after 4 pm). Okay, so that's a huge pain in the ass especially since they DID NOT bother to tell me this information ahead of time (expectation is everything). But hey, I'll be flexible. I ask when the expect to deliver the furniture- they respond with: any time between 11 am and 4 pm!!!!! I WORK FOR A LIVING AND CANNOT BE AVAILABLE AT THEIR WILL. Also, I have to pay an additional $450 for them to deliver the furniture into the house, otherwise they just drop the furniture off in the driveway. So really, here's what this means. I have to take a full day off work, I have to be available during their time frame, and I have to pay an insane amount of extra money for their delivery and set up (else I am moving everything myself). And it IS an insane amount of money when you consider that you are paying $450 for 2 employees to deliver 6 pieces of furniture for 1 hour (and I KNOW it only takes an hour because I moved the furniture myself...in one hour). Finally, you can't even use a different delivery service (ie a moving company) BECAUSE you can't give a moving company a time frame like 'anytime between 11 am and 4 pm.' So to recap, you (and possibly several friends) have to take a whole day off work and you possibly have to pay an insane amount of money for the delivery service. Further, Ship Smart is just the 'logistics' team. They use regular carriers to actually do the delivery. So you are paying tons of money for Ship Smart to set up the delivery with a local carrier (and I guess they don't vet the local carriers very well because the carrier did like 10 illegal things while onsite). And as you already read, they are really horrible at doing that- I had to call several times just to keep things moving along. My advice- go with a logistics team that actually does the work OR just go to the local carrier yourself and save yourself some money. This place is a joke. One fair point, they were VERY quick to call me several times when they saw I chose the cheapest insurance option with the highest deductible. I received 3 calls trying to convince me to go with the more expensive option. Other than that, I had to call them to keep things moving. read more

If you don't mind waiting they will get your stuff to the new location eventually. The final price was more than the quote which was disappointing. I'd use 2 stars, but I've never shipped anything so can't really give an unbiased review. The people were not too helpful estimating the time of arrival. All we were told is "call this number". Until the item was in their system for shipment and we got an email it was hard to estimate when/where the delivery might happen. We shipped a sofa from Santa Cruz to Phoenix.The sofa was picked up quickly by a subcontractor so they couldn't offer much information. The sofa was "packaged" for the trip and held in a warehouse for weeks before beginning it's journey. On 10/10 we had an update that the sofa was ready to be shipped. On 11/16 we were notified it could be delivered. My wish is the item could have been prepared to ship a bit faster so the turn-around was quicker. The cost to ship a Lazy-Boy 3 person sofa was almost $1000.00 for about 715 miles for anyone interested. read more

Moved from CA to CO. SS picked up none furniture items (kitchen, clothes, etc) three weeks ago. Called a week ago to find out cost and status since their website said delivery should take between 1-4 weeks and I'd heard nothing from SS. Agent called warehouse to check on status. She then told me that they'd have estimate and shipping details by no later than yesterday. Having heard nothing by last night, I called again. Spoke to the most rude and disrespectful young man who basically said SS is under no obligation whatsoever to give me a quote or deliver my belongings in any time frame. He kept just raising his voice and repeatedly saying that the contract I signed means that they can hold my possession as long as they want without telling me anything. He refused to call the warehouse like the last agent to find out why they hadn't contacted me yesterday as promised. Three weeks into this process I haven't a clue what this is going to cost or when if ever my belongings will be delivered. I'm simply stunned that this company is legally allowed to operate in this fashion because of course they're holding my possessions hostage. I'm giving them until next Monday to contact me before I take the next step against them. Simply can't believe that the big moving companies who will be handling all of my actual furniture recommended this company! I'll post an update of this review if anything changes. read more

I used Shipsmart to ship my personal goods from CA to the Phoenix, AZ recently. Things went pretty well until my items arrived in AZ My items were expected to arrive between 12-4 pm. Around 4 pm, I still had not received my goods.. I called the company and was told the driver was running behind, but would be dropping my items off shortly. After another hour and a half of no contact, I called again for a status update. I was again informed the goods were going to be delivered shortly. The driver arrived at 6:30 pm. The driver was great, but it would have been nice to hear from the company earlier in the day that my shipment was delayed. More communication was needed. Upon opening my shipped items, I had a huge ant infestation on my boxes (I have pics). Imagine taking your goods out of the cardboard box and then coming across thousands of ants! Not only did I have to move the items from the carport to my new home, I now had to get rid the ants off my containers and boxes as night was setting in. There were no perishables in my shipment, just books, clothes, sports equipment/memorabilia, etc. After cleaning the boxes and moving the contents inside, I noticed I was missing one container that had been shipped. I notified Shipsmart of the missing item and ant problem (w/ pics) by email that night and notified I would contact them the next morning to discuss..I called the next morning to discuss the missing item and the other issues. My shipment was dropped off over a month ago now and my missing container is outstanding. My other issues have yet to be resolved or addressed by Shipsmart. This delay is unacceptable! Each time I inquire i get no real answer. The customer service I've received has been terrible. Throughout the process, I have had to actively seek out Shipsmart to resolve my problems. Since my issues popped up, I have not fielded a email/phone call that I didn't initiate. Honestly, I feel Shipsmart is giving me the run around and could care less about my missing item and other issues with my shipment since they already charged my credit card for the shipping. . Belive it or not, there is more to the story than this, but who wants to read a novel. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Shipsmart for several reasons.. Ship Smart provided shipping services from 1,000 miles away. A family heirloom table was given to us after the passing of a great uncle. The table and chairs are over 150 years old, so we wanted to make sure no damage occurred during shipping. We are located in Texas and the table was in rural Wisconsin. The time frame given was accurate; however, I can only give 4 out of 5 stars because the communication could have been better throughout. While it is normal to have a 3 - 4 week lead time, as a consumer I would have preferred updates as the pick-up and shipping progressed. As promised, we were called prior to delivery to set up a time. The driver arrived within the time frame promised. I couldn't believe the packing! An entire wooden crate was built around the table and chairs. The Wisconsin relatives also included some art and small pieces of china, but there wasn't any damage at all. The care and attention paid to our priceless items cannot be emphasized enough. I would recommend Ship Smart to friends and family. read more

I used ShipSmart to shipt my stuff from San Francisco, CA to Milan, Italy, Europe. I had 5 boxes, 2 suitcases, a Urban Outfitters matress, a bed frame, and two arm-chairs. I packed everything except the chairs to cut the cost and asked them to do it, and they did it for free. I had previously read reviews about them where people were complaining about finding their stuff wet or with insects etc so I put all my stuff in plastic bags and then in boxes, just to be sure and then sealed them with lots of tape. They came to my house on a mid-december monday morning and in about 20 minutes they had picked up everything. My stuff got to Milan on March 9. that's a star taken off from the rating bc it took them one month longer than expected. Everything else was perfect though. They put all my things in a bigger carton box over a pallet and covered my chairs from head to toe with solid packing paper. Nothing was damaged or wet or whatever could go wrong in an over-sea move. I also had fragile things like a small mirror and frames. They worked with an italian company and every one at ShipSmart and this italian company was nice and friendly and helpful. I have to say I was super-nervous about moving over-sea most of my personal effects. If I had to do it all again, I would definitrely call ShipSmart again. read more

He sincerely apologized for any inconvenience, and explained that my shipment should not have taken that long. He also explained that the cost should not have been double. We've originally was referred from a large moving company to Ship Smart back in November, where the cost for a partial move is not cost effective. We did run into some snafu where our third party mover did not have the necessary equipment or boxes to handle the amount of paper we have. However, we did have on hand with spare material for the packing and moving. There were some issue with billing after the delivery. There have been some underestimation with the amount of paper goods and density of the weight. Since this is a company for trying to save cost, I highly suggest anyone doing the move to always over estimate rather than underestimate the weight of the items. In regards to the Billing. They were kind enough to negotiate with me to help offset the costs. I'm glad they have a great customer service and was able to fix the issues. read more

I used Ship Smart to ship about 20 boxes of personal effects from California to Canada (east coast). The good: the customer service was great, they offered to store my boxes for a month (with no charge), and my boxes arrived earlier than expected (about 1 week transit time) The bad: - the boxes arrived 2 weeks earlier than expected, and I had asked them to NOT ship the boxes for an arrival earlier than April 6th (for Customs reasons) and they arrived April 4th. That caused a few problems, I had to pay the warehouse that held the shipment (was promised to be reimbursed but never was) - I had shipped 2 boxes separately ($150 cost) since I thought the shipment would take another 2 weeks (had I known it would be early I would have saved some $$), etc... - the delivery guy who dropped off my shipment at my storage in Canada did not want to uncrate the boxes! It was completely sealed with plywood,etc...Finally he agreed to do it, and 3 of the boxes were quite smashed in, but I think most of my shipment is ok. This might have been a misunderstanding with the delivery company though... Overall, Ship Smart did a good job even though I had a few mishaps. I had been looking for a company that could do a small load from Nevada to New York with very little luck. Ship Smart made the process so easy. When I saw a couple reviews on here, I got a little nervous. So I called Nick and he talked me through the process and put my mind at ease. Yes the actual price was a little higher than what was quoted but that's because it was heavier than they thought. When I called and asked about the price, they diligently worked to get the price down closer to the quote. My stuff arrived a few weeks later - perfectly in tact, well packaged, and the driver that dropped it off was awesome. Some aspects of my experience with Ship Smart was worth five stars and some were worth one. The Estimate: 5 stars. The estimate matched the final cost almost to the penny. The Movers: 5 stars: The people who moved my stuff from Los Angeles were fantastic. They were fast, friendly, hard-working and punctual. I had two different locations to pick up from, and a lot of complicated items to ship, and they were great on the logistical end. Time Spent In Route: 1 star. I was told two to three weeks and it was closer to five. I really needed my stuff and that was inconvenient. Also, they kept telling me it was coming, and then I'd call back a few days later only to find out there was another delay. Condition of my Items: 4 stars. My dresser was slightly banged up, but I easily repaired it. Two plates were broken, but I probably didn't protect them well enough. Customer Service: 3 Stars. They never called to say my stuff was late, instead I had to keep calling them to find out the status. That said, once I called, they always located my account quickly and mostly were polite. Responsiveness to Issues: 5 Stars. Without my asking, they refunded $150 of my $2,100 because of the lateness. I would use them again, but would be careful not to send stuff that I had to have on a certain date. read more

I had a large, heavy painting that needed to be picked up at an office in New York City, and then crated and shipped to Austin, TX. Basically, I was searching the internet for shipping companies in the area and fortunately found Ship Smart's website. I was taking a huge risk in choosing this company to ship this valuable painting, but I had no one in NYC that I could call on to assist with this effort. The back and forth communications that I had before the actual pick-up date helped me feel that I had found the right company. Everyone that I communicated with was all about customer service. The actually recipient of the painting said, "It was expertly packed and the freight associate could not have been nicer." We needed to ship some servers From Utah, to San Jose. Contacted other shippers and were completely ignored. Thought seriously about using UPS but we had no packaging on-hand and boxing up servers securely is about $100-150 a server. Used Ship Smarts online quote. Was contacted directly. Their price was pretty much a wash between doing it ourselves and letting them take care of it. And I am really glad we did. The Servers were very thoroughly wrapped in plastic sheeting, then placed in a wooden crate. And they did all the work, I just let the guys in the door. And I should mention that for us time was not a factor. They were ready to deliver a day before we were actually ready to accept them. We needed to ask them to wait a day. And they did no problem. Smart ship contracts with local shippers to get all this done and every step of the way, every person we interacted with was responsive and professional. The Shippers who picked up, were great. The Guys who delivered were great. The people at Smart ship were great. They are our first call next time we need shipping done. Would use again, 5 stars. read more

I sent a family heirloom marble table, paid for you to pack it and crate it and it was delivered scratched and gouged. It had to be done with some force with a tool and it looks like the tabletop was rolled because there are so many scratches.Fortunately it was insured but that won't help with the emotional damage to our prized piece. read more

I was nervous about the whole shipping process bc I was shipping 14 boxes of sentimental items as well as a very fragile 8-foot antique mirror from my late mother's home in Chattanooga, TN to my home in Eagan MN. But ShipSmart delivered on everything they said they would. The estimate, the amount of time to ship, and especially the crating of the fragile mirror. I was very pleased and relieved when my items arrived safe and sound, and all accounted for, at my home. I was also pleased with my contacts at the subcontracted companies in Knoxville TN and in MN. Honestly, this is possibly the worst moving company that I've ever encountered. DO NOT USE! I repeat, DO NOT USE! This company was referred to me by a large shipping company since I didn't have enough furniture, books, clothes, etc. to warrant a $3,100 price tag. I was moving from Oakland to Miami and Ship Smart's price point was very appealing. Now, it's been about five weeks and I have yet to get a delivery date for my items, when the original estimate placed shipping at two-three weeks. It took three weeks to get an approximate date for when an agent would contact me to schedule a delivery. And not only has the process been incredibly slow, but also expensive. My original estimate that was supposed to be less than $1,600 for pick up, delivery and moving my stuff into my apartment ended up being more than $2,700. Now, I understand that I had added a 40lb table and 40lbs chair to what I was originally quoted on, but that doesn't justify such a ridiculous price increase. I had no choice to pay that amount since they're still holding my items hostage, and I have yet to receive a clear date as to when my stuff will actually arrive. Had I known that this was going to be such a long and tedious process, I would have gladly paid a reputable, professional moving company. Suffice to say, save yourself the frustration and go with any other company. The only reason I'm giving them one star is because Yelp doesn't allow zero-star reviews. read more

DO NOT USE. I can't stress that strongly enough. 1) I paid extra to expedite the shipment to hit a critical delivery window. The day before delivery, since I hadn't heard from them, I called to double-check and was told they hadn't even shipped it yet! They missed my date by over a week. 2) They re-packed my boxes in their warehouse and the contents of an entire box went missing, including my grandmother's silverware (both valuable and hugely sentimental.) My mother-in-law died at her New York City apartment and we needed to move some furniture, art, and other stuff out to our Seattle house. We called a bunch of shippers and the other movers were all in the area of 50% more, like $1400 vs $950. So I chose Shipsmart, but was a little worried because of a few negative reviews here and because we'd never shipped anything cross-country like this before. They couldn't have been better. Everything arrived promptly and safely, including some art in glass frames, and a Tiffany-style stained glass lamp that I told my wife I was sure would arrive in multiple pieces. They protected everything, took it to their warehouse, then put everything on a pallet with everything individually wrapped in protective paper, bubble wrap for the delicate stuff, and a shrink-wrap protected heavy cardboard container that they attached to the base of the pallet. They then used one of our major Seattle shipping companies to deliver it to our house and called beforehand on the agreed day as I'd requested. The guy who delivered it, who I liked immensely and who helped me move some bulky items up our steps (I'd paid just for driveway delivery), said he thought they did a really top-notch job of securing the items, and I couldn't agree more.. They were also really nice in setting things up, because we'd waited longer than we should and had to rush things, and emailed my wife as the cargo reached different points along the way. This experience was awful. I read reviews before and noticed that a lot people complained about the timing which I braced for. I was moving cross country from Boston to San Fran and tried to do as much research as possible. After talking to ship smart they made it sound like my move would be swift and easy and it was far from it. To start the movers showed up past the time window. Then after waiting a week and half I called to follow up on the order to find out the order had not shipped. They forgot to mention that after they pick everything up it takes them 2 weeks to prepare everything to be shipped. Then 5 weeks goes by and I had not been contacted yet again. So I sent a follow up email where they explained their computers had gone down and would contact me once they are up so I can schedule the delivery. Once the delivery arrived that is when things got bad. Furniture was completely dirty with holes. The TV arrived out of the box that it was shipped in and fragile items were broken when the box was clearly labeled. I ended up with someone else's box and to make matters worse they lost a 6 ft floor length mirror. From customer service aspect this company horrible. I had to continuously contact them to get updates on information for when my shipment would arrive. In addition, they did nothing to compensate for the issues I had. read more

10-26-11 This is an update to the original review: I received a call from the owner of Ship Smart last month. He wanted to discuss my original review. The outcome was great. I felt that he really listened to my issues with the service and treatment of my belongings. He genuinely wanted to make things right by me and offered a couple options on how to do that. He offered to help me find a place to repair by damaged furniture and pay for it or just offer me financial compensation for the damage. Or offer me a very competitive price if I were to move again. I told him I felt him very sincere in wanting to make me feel heard and compensated to MY satisfaction. I would try using Ship Smart again and I would only deal with the owner. I believe anyone can make a mistake but it takes a good businessman with integrity to own up to it and want to make it right. Jeff has integrity and is a good businessman. Original review: I came across Ship Smart from a referral of another moving company. I had a 8'x10' storage unit full of mostly boxes and a few pieces of furniture. The moving company I called for a quote came out and recommended Ship Smart saying that my things looked like less that the minimum weight they would have to charge me to ship my things from CA to OH. I wish I had someone from Ship Smart come personally to look at my things and give a quote. They did via an inventory sheet and guessed at the weight. Anyway, you got to know that this is freight and you must wait until Ship Smart fills enough orders to make it worth while to send your stuff along with others via freight to make it more cost effective. You could wait 2-3 weeks for your things says their paperwork. I waited 4 weeks and called them every week from week one. Trying to be a responsible consumer and not let my things go unsupervised, I call their office every 7 days. I was told by their staff I had to wait at least 2 weeks and that my things were still sitting in a warehouse. I called 1 day short of two weeks and I was told again to call back after 2 weeks. So I called the next day. They said that they were still waiting for more shipments before packing my things and putting on a palate. Being flexible and reading that there was NO GUARANTEE that my things would leave in 2 weeks but that was the average, I called a couple days later. I was told that my things would be packed and shipped out the following week. That is 3 weeks of them holding on to my stuff. I called back the following week only to find out my things were still sitting in the warehouse unpacked!!!!! I called the person who referred me to see about getting my stuff from Ship Smart (United referred me and they could've had my things in OH in 6-12 days-guaranteed) this person tried to get things righted for me at Ship Smart. The owner of Ship Smart, John, was apologetic and said my shipment fell through the cracks. I'm not sure how when I called at least once a week and sometimes more. He was willing to pay $450 to expedite my shipment and get it to OH in 3 days. This was great news given that still I had to wait nearly 1 month for my shipment by the time it arrived. I was told by the owner that he would call me the next day to give me the total $ amount once my things have been weighed and I would have a definite cost against the estimate. Since no one called me back, I called 2 days later asking what the charges were. The weight was 500lbs over the estimate!!!! Charging me another $700. I told the owner that I could've paid United a flat fee for a minimum weight of 2100lbs (which mine was 1800lbs) and had my things in 6-12 days instead of 4 weeks and it would be $400 cheaper. He said he'd call me the next day and see what he could do to lower the costs. Since I did not get that phone call, I called him in the afternoon and he decided the best he could do was reduce my fee by $200. $200?!? He's the owner and write the whole thing off if he wanted to. I can't believe that he's still not making a profit and I had to wait 4 weeks after calling and calling to check on my shipment. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY unless you don't care about getting your things shipped and are willing to pay more than the commercial moving companies. Bottom line, get someone to view your stuff and give a quote. Do not do it over the phone. Had I read the Yelp! reviews on Ship Smart, I would've gone with United. Where to start? Let's start with the pros Pros: my stuff arrived (finally) The call center was friendly and responsive until my stuff was picked and packaged up then their other side came out Cons: the actual amount was 2x the estimate. I think they quote low honestly to pull a bait and switch by that time they have your stuff so they kind of know you're dead in the water and they can get away with it They quote 2-3 weeks but it's really like 5-6 weeks. I called them multiple times and my stuff hadn't left the warehouse. "It was still being packaged" after 3 weeks. They don't call to give you updates so you have to track them down. At one point I was convinced they lost my stuff. All my stuff has little knicks on it that was wooden so it didn't arrive in perfect condition. Also it was really dusty when they got it here Only one thing didn't arrive which was my shoe rack but after weeks of misery dealing with them and their rude call center associates I figured whatever I have the most important items I can buy another shoe rack. Overall don't listen to the good reviews and be an idiot like me rolling the dice. Find a better reputable company. They are subcontracting anyways to other companies in your area. Update(08/29/2015): I finally received my shipment 6 weeks after the pick-up date. They missed a couple of items in the first delivery, but then they delivered the rest of the items in 10 days or so. Even though the delivery time was long, I appreciated the fact that they responded to my review on Yelp, and took some concrete actions to not delay the delivery any further. They also issued me a refund to compensate for the inconvenience caused. Overall, I appreciated the help from their customer service managers. I do feel that even though they are a shipping company and not a moving company as they claim, they must give some upper limit on the delivery timeframe. This is the first I'm using Ship Smart, and I am HUGELY DISSATISFIED with the service. I was told that the delivery would take 3 to 4 weeks. It has been more than 5 weeks, and I still haven't received my stuff. Whenever I call the customer service, they tell me that they are still processing the shipment. I called their local warehouse, and I was told that it would take another 10 days after the shipment reaches the warehouse before they can schedule the delivery. So the total delivery time would be more than 6 weeks. I moved to a different state for my work, and not having my furniture has been extremely inconvenient for me. Please avoid this company and their practices. They low ball you with a general estimate and then the suprise comes...they charge you double. They also estimated that my items would arrive within three weeks, items showed up a month and a half later. I thought they would at least try and deliver inside as I had requested, no they left the items outside in the rain. Can I make this all up?? I have dealt with movers before and know they can be shady, but never like this. As for the items they arrived damaged and we even have a missing item. I would say the company met my admittedly low expectations. I hired Ship Smart to move a few items across the country. On the negative side: I had to proactively follow up with them a lot to get questions answered, to get info shared with me over the phone in writing, and to get the move scheduled. The early phase came with two surprises. One was an extra $100 charge that came through very shortly after I'd signed the contract. The other was that they never confirmed a pick up date and time! I was told a window of dates and that the company would call to confirm a time window on a particular date. Instead, the company called at 7:45am telling me they were 15 minutes away. It was sheer luck that it worked out. Despite these early hassles, my items arrived within the timeframe I was told to expect and with good communication from the company doing the delivery. They also arrived without any damage or missing items. Since those were my two priorities, I'd rate this a good experience, but definitely expect to need to be proactive and involved in making your move happen! read more

The only way that ShitSmart could have made more of a mess of my move was if they'd defecated all over my stuff. The company was recommended to me by Marty Pollax from Atlas Moving, a major shipping company, who came to my apartment in San Francisco, looked at my minimal belongings and declared that I would save a lot of money by going with a "micro shipper" rather than a full service company like Atlas. I was quoted aroud $2278 by ShipSmart, $400 less than Atlas, so I went with ShipSmart. At the time of booking, the ShipSmart sales agent said that the delivery to Denver would take two weeks. The movers came on time and took care of my shipment efficiently. But from the moment these crooks had my possessions in their possession, they didn't play nicely. First problem: The shipment took nearly a month to reach me in Denver. I called several times and was told that a month was normal at this time of year. They didn't care that I had been quoted a price based on a two-week delivery window. Second Problem: The shipment ended up costing me much more than I was quoted. The company tried to charge me $5000 (almost twice as much as had been the estimate) but then came down to $3500 after I persistently called them to complain. The excuse for charging me so much money was because my shipment was "more than 1000 pounds heavier than estimated." I later found out from the person at the warehouse in Denver where my stuff sat for who knows how long before it actually reached me, that the shipping company had encased some of my items (eg my bed) in very heavy crates and then passed the cost of the extra weight on to me. Third Problem: When my stuff finally arrived, eight items were broken, two items were dirty, and one item was missing. Two items in particular are one of a kind things which can't be replaced. When I called ShipSmart to complain, the agent simply sent me insurance forms to fill in. I wrote back to say that I wanted compensation directly from ShipSmart in addition to money from the insurance company for the terrible service, but was told that the company had already taken "a huge financial hit" with my shipment and that they could offer me no further compensation. Fourth Problem: The insurance company, ITI, makes it so complicated for agrieved movers to file a claim that I assume many people don't bother. You have to send them estimated repair costs for all the broken items and these estimates have to come from a furniture repair firm in writing on official letterhead. And the insurance company won't pay for the appraisal. This in addition to sending photos and a detailed inventory makes the process of filing a claim extremely time consuming and onerous. I think Atlas, ShipSmart and ITI are all in collusion. I wonder how many people received a kickback as a result of my shipment? read more

I used Ship Smart when I did a cross country move from San Francisco to New Orleans. Everything was tagged by number when the movers came, and everything made it in good condition to Nola! I was worried, as I had had problems with other movers in the past, but was very relieved at how things went with Ship Smart!
