My cousin and I both got full sets of gel acrylics today and they look awful... didn't even press the acrylics on correctly so they were VERY crooked and "chunky" and the paint job was even not awful. Lady told me to sit down after taking over 2 hours for my cousin and I's full set with one color for her and a black base and purple tips for Halloween.. the fossil-resembling nail dryer was done in about 20 minutes and my nails still weren't dry, but the lady painted the top coat on and SMEARED a few of the purple tips into my black and RUINED another couple by accidentally touching them and didn't even offer to fix them after correcting the lady and asking for small touch-ups throughout the entire process. I am BEGGING YOU not to get your nails done here! I went in for a dip manicure and the first time I don't think I even got a top coat on them? They weren't shiny and were so bumpy and krusty. Then the owner came over and tried to fix my manicure and I walked away with this. They were shiny, but not smooth, my nails are KRUSTY, I mean I don't even know how they managed to do it but they did and it's so gross. I sat in the chair for over an hour for a gel manicure. The technician applied 6 coats of the color polish alone. Color was applied so close to the cuticles that it's now all over my skin and embedded in all creases! When I pointed out how messy the application was, the lead technician looked so close as if she couldn't see! It was a joke. Great place for a pedicure! Last time I came the lady let me know the color I picked which was like a glittery pink would show up very light and she told me to go look again to find something darker. She applied the dark color and then the glittery color and it turned out very good. She was very helpful! The hot rocks they use to massage your legs is a also great touch. I usually never have to wait real long either. I haven't gotten a mani yet so I don't know how well they do for those but they do great pedicures and they last a good month! This was my worst manicure experience to date! After leaving one store because of the 45 minute wait, my friend convinced me to try Shiny nails even though I'd been avoiding them because of a prior bad experience. She was having a regular mani-pedi and I was going to have a gel manicure. The store was crowded! There were at least eight women being helped. We decided to wait anyway because we didn't feel like finding another place. After about 10 minutes of waiting my friend was called to have her pedicure started. About 5 minutes later the owner started soaking my nails in acetone and (scalding!) hot water to remove the previous coat of shellac polish. I sat there for 30 minutes being completely ignored! I watched five women who had come in after me have manicures and leave! I mentioned to the women I had been sitting there a long time so she begrudgingly came over to start scraping the polish off of my nails. By this point most of the acetone had evaporated from the bowl and the water was ice cold. I had been sitting so long that my nails were curling in on themselves (which I pointed out and she quickly came up with some excuse)! She got frustrated and refilled the bowl with hot water and asked me to dip my nails back into the acetone. This lasted ANOTHER 15 minutes. By this point my friend had already received her mani-pedi and was waiting on me. Other employees were walking by and accepting other customers. I kept thinking "Why isn't the owner asking someone else to take over my manicure?" After she had finished yet another woman's nails, she finally started on mine. She was going so fast that while trimming my cuticle she took a large chunk out of my finger that would not stop bleeding. She tried to ignore it until the blood started to drip on the counter! At this point an elderly woman came into the store, obviously a regular, complaining that her nail had broken and wanted it fixed. My manicurist, the owner, agreed to fix her acrylic and change the polish. She was trying to go so quickly while filing that she left jagged edges that have since ripped and torn off parts of my nail. She rotated back and forth between painting my nails and fixing the other customer's. The paint job was TERRIBLE! It had thick clumps and ran past my nails in several places on to my skin. She kept saying "isn't this pretty?". I couldn't believe she was trying to make me think she had done a good job! THEN she charged me the full $30! I couldn't believe it! I was so taken aback that I paid her and left immediately. I should have demanded a refund! Shellac (or gel) manicures are supposed to stay chip-free for at least 14 days, which has proven to be true on other occasions for me but only five days later, as I type this, the paint has already completely pealed off two nails, five are chipped, three are broken, and my cuticle is still healing. I've had really bad nail experiences recently in the area, so when I first walked in, I was ready to be disappointed, but they took me by surprise! They weren't busy so they sat my sister and I down right away. She was getting gels and I was getting acrylics. The staff were friendly without being overbearing. They worked quickly too - we were both finished in less than an hour. It's three weeks later and my acrylics aren't lifting or cracking at all. That's the first time I've had that happen! I'm still getting compliments on them. I'm going back in today to file them down and change the polish. Everyone has their favorite nail shop that they're loyal to and this one may have just become mine. The only reason I'm giving them 4 instead of 5 is that they didn't have the color my sister wanted and they replaced it with a color that she wasn't happy with. I pointed out that they were rough but the language barrier prevented her from understanding. Once she understood she started filing again. This time paint is now all under the tips. This was the first nail place I went to when I moved to The Lakeview area. The store was clean and the prices are fair. They were the same prices as the places in Monroe and Oxford where I've also lived. I expected them to be pricier since it's a bigger city. They exfoliate, massage, then massage with stones, and then wrap your legs with hot towels. They also didn't speed through the pedicure like many salons do. I appreciated that greatly.
