Would definitely return! This is a low key spot that has delicious Cantonese food and reasonable prices. In terms of 'ambience' the restaurant is fairly small, very clean, and service was good. Also for being a Canto spot this place isn't too loud and you're not bumping chairs with your neighbour beside you. We had the lobster with noodles, ginger chicken, curry beef brisket, and pea shoots with scallop. Everything was really good, especially the chicken. If you're in the mood for Canto come check this place out!

Solid 3.5 stars, 4 stars for ambience, given its East Van location. this place has gone through a few name changes/owners, who really knows. Was fortunate to snack with the managers for their special staff menu, not available on the regular menu. Some type of bitter lemon, not too sure how to describe it, but good nonetheless. Just not sure if it's something to jump at returning but for the area, with its white table cloth, can be considered nicer, upper casual dining with matching prices. Free parking in front, limited spots as there's several other restaurants in the same mini-strip.

This spot was previously Ming Dynasty Cuisine. They've been opened for about a month now (according to the employee) so we gave them a try. The setting seemed brighter and cleaner than Ming Dynasty, which are both welcomed changes (always thought Ming Dynasty was kind of filthy). Their food selection is typical of a Hong Kong style restaurant and the quality was so-so, nothing to really write home about. The service was pretty good so that is a definite plus. There isn't a lot of competition around the area, so they should do fine as long as they can up their food quality. I will give them a couple more tries before I come to a final conclusion. They deserve 3 stars right now because it was a decent experience, but nothing memorable.

My family is always rotating different Chinese restaurants when we have our 4 dishes. Some restaurants would inflate and as a result, we will be coming here to Shining Garden for some food. In summary, the food is average, the wok power is average, the service is good and basically with this mind, it is one of those places where you want to come for a quick meal, but not for the fancy stuff.

Had lunch with the family here on Sunday. We got an assortment of rice and noodle dishes from the lunch menu. Seasoning and flavours met our expectations and the portions were rather generous. Overall, great value and food. Service was fine. We did not have any issues. I quite enjoyed the milk tea, but it could use a bit more milk and not as much ice. The lemon tea was on point. If going in groups of 8+, I would highly recommend calling to make reservations in advance as the restaurant is not very big. I recall the largest round table was able to accommodate the eight of us. Pro-tip: Parking on the street is free, but watch out for the signs for valid parking times. There is parking in the back and out front, but often it is full.

Awesome House Special Fried Noodles, perfectly steamed fish, yummy veggies & fantastic dried scallop with egg white fried rice!

We tried to go to other places around town for dim sum but others were too busy or only took reservations. I'm so glad we ended up here. Portions are huge so be careful when ordering! With about 9-10 people per table, we were treated to what felt like at least ten courses. There wasn't much time for photos, as conversation and catching up naturally took precedence. The standouts were the seafood fried rice and the green onion lobster and crab stir-fry -- rich, comforting, and generously flavoured, the kind of dishes that quietly anchor a long meal. It was a busy holiday weekend, and the restaurant was packed. Our original 7:00 p.m. reservation was delayed until 8:00 p.m., leaving many of us waiting outside in the cold. Once seated, the pacing felt off, with dishes arriving out of sequence, which gave the meal an oddly disjointed rhythm. A small apology or update from the staff would have been welcome, but none came. Overall, the food was very tasty, and I would consider returning -- particularly to explore more of their seafood offerings.

I also ordered fries it was huge! Fries were bit salty and overcooked I tossed it out in the end. I left my water and soda to drink them later after heading to washroom. Staff cleared my water and soda away. I still had half of soda in it. I felt thirsty after eating my food in the end. It'd have been nice if she asked me first before clearing dishes. I don't think I'll go back.

It's a cosy restaurant and I always tell my nephew of the original Cannary Restaurant located on the waterfront and i had to drive over train tracks. We love the bread with lobster and balsamic dipping sauce. We had 2 plates of the San Francisco style mussels to share. Our mains were the Ahi Tuna, West Coast Bouillabaisse and the daily specials of halibut and sablefish. All were delicious and portions huge. We contemplate about Oder a streak but we all 7 of us decided on seafood. Service was good as usual. My only pick to the owner, please do some deep cleaning as there were loads of dust sitting on the ropes from the decor. Was not pleasant sitting next to that and seeing all that next to my food.

From the gold railings to coat check to a piano on the stairs to an old school oyster bar showcasing their wares proudly on display, Joe Fortes has a lot going on for it. But perhaps more so than anything else is an amazing happy hour for anyone who loves oysters. Service Before diving into the food let's talk about service. The servers here are dressed in the old full whites with black ties and give you full service. They have an expert knowledge of the menu and are willing to give you any and all opinions if asked. They check on you frequently and make sure you're having a good time with enough banter to make it friendly and welcomed. Happy Hour - Alcohol With that out of the way, we can talk about the happy hour. Yes, they have a great deal when it comes to their house red and white wines where you can get 6 oz for $6 CAD or 9 oz for $9 CAD. Their beers range from $5 CAD to $8 CAD and their cocktails are all under $10 CAD. Happy Hour - Food They have some incredible truffle fries, cut thick and sprinkled with parmesan as delicate as snow for $9 CAD. Their crab & corn fritters are slightly chewy but packed with flavor and come at $12 CAD. The coconut prawns sound just as delicious as they taste and come at $13 CAD. I would avoid the Steelhead ceviche though as it was more mashed avocado than ceviche. However, HOWEVER, the star of the show are their oysters. Coming at $1.75 an oyster, you get to be as gluttonous as you'd like whilst keeping your pockets happy. Vancouver is known for their amazing seafood and with this happy hour from 3 PM - 5 PM it gives you 2 hours to fill your belly with as many oysters as you can. Even if you ordered 50 oysters you would be under $90 CAD. I should know, I did that. Last Thoughts Even without the incredible happy hour Joe Fortes would be a restaurant you have to visit during your trip to Vancouver. With a great selection of food on their menu, wait staff that feel old world and professional, and a setting fit for the city, the happy hour is just the bonus that makes visiting Joe Fortes even more enticing. Come with an appetite, leave with a smile.

And while there are no shortage of seafood restaurants serving fresh crab on the Steveston waterfront, we wanted to give The Crab King a fair shake. I'm so glad that we did! My wife ordered a King Crab for herself which, after tearing it literally limb-from-limb, eventually declared it to be tied for her favorite boiled crab dish anywhere! High praise coming from such a consummate crustacean connoisseur! For myself and our son, an order of fish and chips, and the grilled chicken sandwich rounded out our order, both of which were crispy, tasty and delicious. Regarding the fish and chips, they appeared to be tempura-battered, and I'm still not 100% sure what type of fish it was. It may have been cod, but it seemed more like catfish, but either way, it was tender, juicy, flaky and delicious. No complaints here! More than anything, though, the employees here went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. Our toddler son, who is normally extremely well-behaved in restaurants, was having a bit of a fuss here and there. Without prompting, the servers brought us a little radio to play music for him, as well as a couple of toys to play with, one of them being a wind-up truck that they gave to him to take home! He loved it there, and still plays with it at home! They even played peek-a-boo with him from behind the counter, soliciting laughs and giggles, for the better part of 15 minutes! That sort of customer service is nearly impossible to find, and should be praised and cherished wherever it is found! Whatever the past may have held for this restaurant, the Crab King is an entirely new animal now, serving up fresh seafood by uncommonly wonderful employees, in a fantastic floating location. They even offer to cook spot prawns and other seafood purchased from the boats docked at the nearby waterfront marketplace, for a modest fee. With all these things going for it, there's no doubt who wears the crown of Crab King in Steveston Harbor!

My boyfriend and I were in a seafood mood and ordered the following: Seafood Tower: A showstopper. Beautifully presented, overflowing with fresh oysters, chilled prawns, lobster rolls, caviche, and tuna tartar. Everything tasted fresh and ocean-sweet but the lobster rolls buns were getting wet and soggy from the plate to ice condensation - an oversight on presentation logistics. Wagyu Carpaccio: Melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The wagyu was sliced paper thin and had that rich, buttery texture you hope for. The shaved truffle garnishe added just enough flavour without overshadowing the beef. Served with a few pieces of sourdough bread, it was one of my favourites. Roasted Chicken: I know--ordering chicken at a seafood-forward spot felt risky, but it ended up being one of the surprise standouts. Perfectly roasted with crispy skin and juicy, flavorful meat. It was served with a zesty sauce and roasted vegetables and really homey and tasty. Scallops Risotto: Creamy, aromatic, and cooked to that ideal al dente bite. The scallops were seared beautifully--golden on the outside and tender inside. Service was warm and attentive, and the coastal-chic atmosphere made the whole experience feel relaxed but still special.
