We are not often in Middletown, but we will definitely be back. This is a great place to stop, and I 10000% recommend it. Of course, I had the gluten-free veggie pizza, and I added pineapple because I am a pineapple-on-pizza person. Sue me, I am an islander. My partner had the shrimp pizza, not gluten-free, and ordered a medium. The size was honestly obscene for a medium. He kept asking to drive back down there every day after because he wanted it again. Definitely returning.

They do offer a free lot in the back, but judging by all the cars, Mondo is very popular on a Friday evening. Sure enough, there was a big line of people picking up orders, but we walked right in and were seated immediately. We started off with a beet salad, which was surprisingly delicious, combining candied walnuts and sweet orange and green apple slices with salty feta and tangy balsamic over a mountain of mixed greens. We then moved on to paninis, generous portions of meat and toppings on freshly baked, crispy bread. One of us chose more mixed greens tossed with dressing while the other chose crunchy French fries. We also ordered a third panini to go, the Mondo combo. We asked for fries; the kitchen accidentally gave us a salad. Our server, Heather N., saved the day by noticing the error and giving us both side orders. Mondo is family friendly, and there were plenty of children during our visit. As such, the volume was a tad loud and boisterous, but nothing obnoxious that would prevent us from returning.

The guy has been making pizza since he was 15, there, and their oven is 120 years old. They are meticulous. Every single pie is the same quality. The crust is really unique. If you enjoy thin crust pizza, you have to order it here. Thin, crispy. Their house pie--sausage, mushrooms and peppers--is outstanding. Never overly wet or greasy, slices are uniform. Just made by the best of the best, in the best oven. Prices are remarkably affordable. Despite their reputation they stay the same. Will always feel like a family-run, neighborhood gem. Just a great place. Service is top-notch. Friendly, on-time, good guys. Ambiance is what you'd expect. Great vibes. Tiny place. Old-fashioned. If you can get a table, it's clean and an enjoyable spot. You can also take out, and find a place close by to park or a bench.

If you like New Haven style pizza, which is arguably the 'esemplare' of all pizza, then visiting The Little Rendezvous is a MUST visit if you live within 90-min. Plan a trip to visit some store you want to go to, a beach visit or whatever, just find a way to circle The Little Rendezvous into the trip! The crust is thin with a crackery-crunch, the sauce is at a another level and the mozz and roni are high-quality deliciousness! Rendezvous stands tall with any of the well known top-3 pizza joints in New Haven. Dave's score of 9.1 (if you are unaware of the reference, then pizza isn't your thing) is right on point, and I'd go as far as scoring it slightly higher at a 9.2 based on my visit. The building is something out of folklore. The building is all of about 20ft. wide, and when you enter, it is immediate, Steve (owner/chef) is all about the pizza. To be clear, most will consider Rendezvous to be take-out only. There is zero decor, less signs made with cardboard and sharpie notifying you that wait times of hours are real..... so be sure to call ahead. You walk past the most basic seating area of 3-4 small tables with bare walls, and then proceed to walk down an oddly long and narrow sloping hallway which leads you to the service counter/kitchen which houses the 130-year old oven! It's honestly something you could only imagine out of a movie...... the hole in the wall that is creating high-quality, delicious pizzas! Why or how you ask? The answer is simple, Steve! The guy clearly has a passion for making pizza and has dedicated his life to doing so. I met the 'man-the myth-the legend' on my visit, and he kindly even took the time to chat with me. Bucket-list item checked off! Overall score = 5.0!!!

The wings are a nice size cooked perfectly. The blue cheese they serve with it is to die for! A lot of blue cheese and garlic in a creamy base. Only bad part about the wings are they are a little pricey, but to me, they are worth it. Grinders-My husband had the tuna, good solid tuna base. I wish they had more toppings like cherry peppers or banana peppers, but that is just me. If you do t want it toasted you have to let them know this. I think all off them come toasted, unless you specifically say don't toast. Desserts- I like their cookies. The peanut butter cup is my favorite. It's nice and large, my husband and I can split it and I am good with that and feel satisfied. The staff is always nice, busy and efficient. Again, I did not take a picture, because I scarfed my food down and it was an after thought. They have dine in, but I normally just pick up. From the area I pick up, it is clean.
